About ROKA

The name ROKA carries great meaning - ROKA is a meeting place where food and drinks are shared with friends (ro) and heat, warmth and an all-embracing energy surround (ka). The principle cuisine is from the robata grill, which originates from the fishermen of the northern coastal waters off japan, who would cook the fish on the boats with different charcoals and share the bounty with one another using their oars.

ROKA charlotte street opened in 2004, ROKA canary wharf in 2009, ROKA mayfair in february 2014 and ROKA aldwych in october 2014.

I made the mistake of sitting to the left-hand side of the counter where there’s a flooring issue and every time somebody walks behind you you feel your chair is being pulled. Food as good as ever, especially the blackened cod. Service a little slow at 1st but very much worth the wait.

                                                Booked table. Arrived and was shown to counter. They took offence when I said I had booked table and not counter. Took another 15 mins to seat us despite the fact that restaurant was only ever 3/4 full. Plenty of tables free. Food was ok but a lot better elsewhere. Black cod mediocre at best. Sushi ok but nothing special. Our table service ok but table next to us complained several times. For the price they charge, all of the above if not acceptable. Plenty of other great places. Pretty poor. Pretentious. Don’t deliver, service or food.

                                                So happy with our visit. Made my partners birthday so special, paid great attention to detail and were very knowledgeable. The waitress was fantastic and so attentive. Thank you!!

                                                Excellent food, service and atmosphere. My only criticism would be that some of the portion sizes are very small. Where the menu suggests one portion for 2 people, ignore, it’s only big enough for 1.

                                                Food was great but service is underwhelming - table wasn’t ready for 15 minutes, then high table instead of counter table (which we had booked) was given, ordering was slow and getting hold of someone for a drink took 20 minutes, staff is constantly running around the restaurant which kills the atmosphere a bit. We’d requested a special birthday moment at the end and the restaurant had previously messaged about this but on the day nothing happened. A shame, since the food is fantastic and portions are generous.
