We went to celebrate our son’s and his girlfriend’s match for residency - Riondo’s didn’t disappoint. The waiters Justin and Chase were attentive to our table. The owner’s suggestion to wine was on point as well as his suggestion for the octopus appetizer with arugula which was beautifully plated and tasty. The grilled octopus was perfectly done on our previous visit too. The in house made spinach gnocchi with peas and prosciutto with was delicious. We added grilled and blackened shrimp which were nicely prepared. The gnocchi without the addition of shrimp is flavorful. My husband enjoyed the Tuscan pork and risotto. We have been there twice and will go there again.
While this was not our anniversary evening, we were told to try Riondo’s before we left Galveston. It not only exceeded our expectations, but my husband and I enjoyed the romantic ambiance and our server was spectacular. The food was absolutely the best we both had ever tasted for fine Italian. We will definitely be back!
Riondo’s was wonderful as always! Their Ciopino is the best and we make a point to have it a couple of times during each of our winters here
We were in Galveston for the weekend. Riondo's was a lovely venue with a friendly staff and fantastic food. A definite go-too in Galveston. Found it by chance and then later had someone refer us to it as one of the nicest local venues in Galveston. We were pleased to say "We know!"
Fabulous! The food and service were amazing!
Fantastic food. Unique location.
Reservation made for Valentines day for 2 by the Vault. Very Cozy and romantic, table had a candle and rose buds on the table. The wine list was excellent and the seafood meal with pasta was delicious afterwards the expresso with lady fingers and dessert was superb. The owner "Don McClaugherty" went out of his way to make my favorite drink which is called "The Paloma", he was very gracious and hospitable. This is the second time there, first time for lunch and the waiter was very friendly in helping us with the menu, so we tried them for our Valentines Dinner, we certainly will be going back again and make this one our many favorite restaurants.
Great food and great service. Good variety on menu and decent prices. I had the chef fresh catch of the day with a side on pasta, the fish was swordfish that evening, and it was cooked perfectly and the red pepper sauce was excellent. Will go back
The food was excellent as always. The service this time was a little slow. Initially our waitress was attentive but seemed to disappear when we were finished with the meal and then again when it was time to pay our bill. It could be that she was busy helping in the kitchen because a large group had come in during our meal.
Celebrated my birthday with family and close friends. Manager augmented our order with appetizer of meatballs and celebratory dessert. Food was amazing - be sure to order the fresh mozzarella! Lovely evening. Private dining area in the wine room that was originally a bank vault.
Had dinner here Saturday night. It was restaurant week in Galveston, but no problem getting a reservation. The entire experience was exceptional. Greeted very nicely and shown to a very nice table. Our server, Jessica, was excellent - very efficient. The food was so well-prepared and delicious. My husband loves duck, and he said it was some of the best he's had. We will definitely dine again at Riondo's the next time we come to Galveston.
We were very much looking forward to dinner here during Galveston Restaurant week. A beautiful restaurant but that's where it ended. Our waiter was the epitome of everything a waiter should not do/be. He was pushy, abrasive , and downright rude. The food was barely mediocre. My husbands duck was totally overlooked. Our friends veal was cold then when he sent it back it came out tough as nails. He and I both ordered the veal scallopini and they looked like two different dishes. His was more like eggplant with a few bites of veal. Mine was proportioned correctly but the taste was bland as was the fourth persons pasta dish.
We ate the Restuarant Week menu so the value was there and the food was good, but not great. I think restaurant week is a great idea to raise money for a good cause and introduce your restaurant to new clients. So, something a little more special is usually the way to go. Nevertheless, I love this restaurant for the location, the ambiance, and the staff, which are friendly, helpful and professional. The wine list is short but I have had great wine both times I have been there. I would encourage anyone who likes Italian to try it!
Tried their Galveston Week Menu. I had the shrimp red pepper bisque. Although it was a little watery for my taste, the flavor was amazing. I also ordered their duck and it was great along with the finger lady dessert.
Great place with wonderful food. Celebrated my birthday and Kristi the bar manager bought me a birthday. Friendly staff and the bread is to die for - thanks Chef Rico!!!
Tried them for restaurant week. Duck was tasty but risotto was not hot. Bisque was full of shrimp. Veal also tasty. Salad presentation not pleasing. All in all, a mixed bag but we will go back to try again because the service and the table in the alcove were great.
Overall great. Two of our party had substandard dinners. But management gave concessions.
We set reservations for New Years Eve as has come to be a tradition. The food is always great and the service is also. The only issue we have had the last two years has not been with the restaurant, but with "Open Table". Last year as well as this year we set reservations using Open Table and received confirmations only to arrive at the restaurant with no reservations showing for us. The restaurant was very accommodating and sat us after I showed them the confirmation email, however, if they had not been able to seat us it would have ruined our plans especially after driving in from Houston.
I do not know where the disconnect is but it may force me next year just to call the restaurant direct to set my reservations.
New Year's Eve with a group great experience! Would highly recommend grilled octopus app and stuffed mushrooms. My husband and I shared a salad and the seafood ravioli add lump crab and it was amazing
We visited on New Year’s Eve. Excellent service and delicious food! Very impressed!
Great food and great atmosphere. Our server Paul was exceptional and his recommendations were spot-on. Will definitely return.
Bad service from the moment out waiter came to us. We had high hopes, but we're not impressed with the service.
Riondo's was great!!! The food was very tasty and the waiter was exceptional!
As we were being seated we asked for a specific table and told we could not have it as they were totally booked for the night. That was reasonable and we were not upset. However, a number of tables remained open then entire hour and half we were there. Also, a party of four was sat next to us and after about 15 minutes they were moved to the very table we requested and were told we could not have. We inquired why they were moved to a table we were told we could not sit. The response was that they needed the first table the party had been sat at to combine for a larger party. Translation...the table we were told we told was not available miraculously became available. Second...at the start of the meal we were given one serving of 4 small pieces of bread and near the end of the meal we asked for more bread and were given 4 more small pieces which was fine until we were charged $3.00 for the "extra" bread. We asked the waiter and he said he could not remove the charge. On the way out the manager asked if we were the ones who had inquired about bread. We told him that we were and that it was just insulting to be charged $3.00 extra dollars for 4 pieces of bread when our tab was already at $100 (for two). It wasn't like we sat there and ate only bread. The manager (actually the owner) was very unapologetic and very matter of fact about it. Just not the kind of experience you expect in a "nice" restaurant. The food was actually great but the service not so much.
The food and service were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and look forward to returning on another special occasion. Just wish the server had mentioned the cost of the fish-of-the-day special as it turned out to be pricier ($45) than we expected given the cost of on-the-menu seafood entrees.
Wanted to love this restaurant but it came up short in a few areas. Firstly, our server arrived as soon as we were seated and asked for our drink order. We told her we needed a few minutes to look at the menu to see which wines were available by the glass. She left and it was a very long time before she came back to take our order. We could see her standing at the bar talking to the bartender and waiting for him to fill her order for another table. Once she had that table’s order she took yet another order and once again waited at the bar until it was filled. Finally she came back and took our drink order and wanted to know if we were ready to place our food order. I then asked about any off the menu specials and only then did she recite them. We sent her away to get our wines but did order a salad to share also. By the time our wine arrived we had been seated for 20 minutes. Once we received our wines and salads (both very good) we ordered our entrees. My wife ordered chicken piccata which was just ok. She loved the scalloped potatoes but said the chicken was a bit tough. I ordered Spaghetti Bolognese but received Spaghetti Pomadora instead . I sent it back but instead of re-making the dish they just added meat sauce to the existing tomato sauce which resulted in a mess of a dish. The meatballs were very good however. So overall we were disappointed but did love the atmosphere and found things with the meal to like.
We will try Riondo’s again and hope this past Saturday evening was just a bad day.
Food was a notch above, wait staff was prompt we will be back. reservations recomended
Had not been there in several months. Pleasantly surprised at how good the entire evening was. Will definitely be back in the near future.
Riondo's is one of our favorite restaurants on the Island. The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is charming, and the service is usually exemplary. This time, however, our server (Sharon) was clearly disappointed to have us at her table. We chose to sample the Happy Hour small plates. We had our 15-year-olds with us, so opted for a table on the patio instead of inside at the bar. I am not exactly sure why our server was unhappy (that we chose to dine on the patio? that we only ordered 1 cocktail?), but she was obviously having a bad day. We will return to Riondo's often, but will likely stick to lunch.
Love it, excellent service , delicious food 🥘 excellent Location , Nice Restaurant in the Heart of Downtown Galveston. Will Come Back!
Best staff— so friendly and eager to help find solutions given good allergy issues.
Great bar. Great pasta Perfect location Skip dessert
We ate at Riondo's for our first time and thoroughly enjoyed it! The pasta, meatballs, & shrimp were fresh and delicious ! Service was great! Nice wine selection! We'll be back.
Had a wonderful evening that evening for dinner. No complaints, just great service and atmosphere.
Nice location on the Strand. Not the typical restraunts that you see.
We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere.
We had the ravioli special. It was fantastic. If you want a little privacy sit in the vault.
Great food. Wonderful service.
Made a reservation at 8 for 815 on a Saturday night. Leisurely dinner, great staff went through the specials and were back plenty of times to chat and check up on us. Thanks Paul. Food was delicious, brushetta was magnificent...bread grilled perfectly oiled and a wonderful dollop of house made diced mozzarella and tomatoes. We split the Orange and Arugala salad loved the grapefruit vinaigrette so light it really helped the Arugala shine. My wife got the Waygu lasagna and every element was spot on. I will be hard pressed to not order it next time. I got the house made sausage pizza and it was excellent. (crust was a tiny bit thick but that just gave it a good chew.) The seasonings in the sausage were complex. Really torn on what to order next time given how great everything was this time. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
49th anniversary was washed out by Harvey so last minute we went to Galveston for a quiet celebration. We could not have made a better choice than Riondo's ! From the minute we walked in we were greeted with "congratulations" and "Happy Anniversary" from all the staff!
We were given a quiet table in the side room, beautiful setting and ambiance. Started with stuffed mushrooms and blackened sea scallops ~ perfection! Cioppino for dinner ~ the best I have ever tasted. Cheesecake with a candle and glass of champagne. THANK YOU RIONDO'S for a memorable evening. It was worth the hurricane wait to be with you. We WILL be back.
