Rio City Café - Sacramento
Rio City Cafe is situated in beautiful historic Old Sacramento, overlooking some of the most prominent landmarks in Sacramento. The Sacramento River runs by our spacious outdoor patio, with spectacular views of the historic Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat (pyramid) building.
Rio City Cafe opened its doors in May of 1994. We display a comfortably casual setting, with indoor and outdoor seating. We can accommodate large parties and banquets, as well as private parties in our banquet room for special occasions. Or just simply enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and the view in the outdoor cocktail area. During the colder months, enjoy the view from inside near our cozy fireplace.

Ahi nachos are to die for! The calamari is fantastic. Great drinks and view. We had one of the best servers I've had in....well, forever.
We were disappointed in the food on this, my second visit to Rio City Cafe. I had previously eaten brunch there last year and it was excellent. The chicken vegetable soup was watery, the coconut shrimp was overcooked, and the crab melt was just so-so. Even the coleslaw was somewhat tasteless. We were seated right next to the clearing station where they dump, very loudly, the used dishes which was not pleasant. We hope this was just a bad day for the kitchen as we love the location right on the river, and the outdoor patio is terrific.
Very nice outdoor dining on the river. The hostess was really nice and graciously accommodated our request for a different table. I would recommend reservations. My ribs were tasty but cool in the center. My husband loved his maple bourbon fillet.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly! Food was delicious, as were the drinks. My boyfriend and I shared the Sourdough Cheese Loaf, Rio Prime Rib Dip, and the Tri Color Cheese Tortellini. Sooo good! In my reservation I had requested a table with a view of the river & bridge, when we arrived there wasn’t a table that fit my request, however the hostess informed us that a party of 2 was about to leave so we waited about 5-8 minutes and it was worth it! My boyfriend was visiting from SoCal and he really enjoyed the view and food! Thanks so much Rio City Café! You made his last meal with me in NorCal a great one!
I’ve had dinner and lunch here and it has always been pleasant. This afternoon the table next to us was rather on the more energetic side and most likely day drinking which is definitely ok but I could barely hear myself. Not a complaint but an observation. I couldn’t decide which salad the Chinese chicken salad or the crab Louie salad. I asked the waitress and she suggested the Louie salad. I was excited as I’m a seafood lover. When the salad arrived the dressing was just too much. When I bit into a shrimp it was not how a shrimp texture should be. Rather tough and like it was old. And the salad smelled not fresh. I squeezed the lemon on it and the smell was still apparent. I took a few bits and that was it. Maybe it was a bad day for salad. I normally enjoy dining here and will give it another try.
It's a good place to eat outdoors and see the river. Service and food are good. They follow COVID-19 rules for masks and spacing. Menus are paper and thrown away. It's the third time I've been there since restaurants opened up again.
Love going to Rio City. Always good service and food quality is always top notch. The only problem that night was the bathroom was very dirty. Seems like the staff never did a bathroom check. Hope they fix that problem especially during these times.
Amazing view and amazing food! Had a great time
Our waitress was outstanding. Knows the menu as well as the wine. The late afternoon dinner was on the patio and friends were able to bring their small dog. Looking out over the river outstanding. We had our boat driver drop us off and pick us up at the dock.
River City Cafe, 5 stars all the way around
I’ve always loved Rio City Cafe. I used to eat here a lot when I worked downtown. I was pleased with everything the restaurant has done to keep customers safe in the Covid environment. Since I hadn’t been there for a really long time & have not been doing much dining out since Covid so I was really looking forward to sitting out on the deck, enjoying the peaceful river & having a nice lunch out with a friend. Unfortunately, the day turned out to be windy but that was okay because they moved us up closer to the building out of the wind. However, what really spoiled it, which I know is not in the control of the restaurant, was a couple of boats that felt like it was really cool to start their very loud boats, sit at the dock & rev their engines over & over. Then proceeded to go back & forth in front of the restaurant several times all while making sure they went by slow & loud. It was so rude to the Rio City Cafe customers & the wait staff. They couldn’t even take orders until the boat(s) were far enough away so they could be heard. It was nice to be back but very disappointing that inconsiderate people had to spoil the beautiful atmosphere for so many others!
Nice setting, good service, ample parking, friendly staff ... will probably return.
This a great a place to eat. Especially if you’re seated on the patio looking out on to the river. The service was great. The French toast is so good!!
The food was not good. Probably will not be back. Bottomless mimosa made the experience better
Love this place the food and service is great and sitting on the river is awesome
The appetizers were wonderful, but the main dishes were so so.
Perfect seating arrangements and the food and service was great! Thank you!
Beautiful setting right on the river, quiet, excellent service and food. Love eating here one of my favorites.
We arrived to our 10am Sunday Brunch reservation. Small number of people awaited the opening. Perfect day to eat outside on the river. Not busy at 10am. Outdoor patio tables plenty distanced, staff wearing masks and provided excellent service. We both had the crab Benedict. Delicious! And we split a Ramos Fizz, which they split at the bar so we each received our drink in a double-old fashioned glass. Perfect size and delicious. Highly recommend Rio City Café. We will be back!
They have open air dining and good food. It was nice to get out to eat. A little expensive.
Service was fantastic. Food beautiful, classy, and upscale. Nice to see boats in water. Ordered fish and chips, Eggs Benedict, steak salad, salmon sandwich, breakfast plate, frittata, all were excellent, so was coffee.
Amazing location. Food is correct, but you mostly go for the location. It’s worth it especially with visitors!
Our waitress Whitney was amazing. Food was amazing as always!! Brought friends that have never been to Rio City Cafe and they can't wait to go back and bring their family and friends. Planning to hold two wedding showers there and I know that they will do an awesome job. Love this restaurant!!!
I had a carb free wrap, that was great. What they could add is linseed crackers and some sunflower seeds to make it more a diner. The chocolate dessert and fries are the best ever!
Great experience as always. Food was excellent, attentive service. We will return.
Entrees were less than desirable, although the appetizers were great (sourdough cheese bread, and ahi nachos). This place has great reviews, but we weren't too impressed with either the service, the location (even though we chose this place over another because of its waterfront attraction), or the food. Likely won't be back again.
Excellent food and service while seated on the walkway Friday night. Celebrated my husbands birthday and it was very enjoyable meal.
The waiter was good. Food wad good add right by the Delta River it had great views.
Exceeded my expectations. A new spot for me and my honey to enjoy. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Excellent service, food was really good, and the view was amazing.
Great service. Good was okay. Husband ribs were cold near the bones.
Great good, wonderful view of the river and boats. Service at table was just ok. Otherwise it was great.
I love the atmosphere
Felt safe with the tables nicely distanced
Seated on time. First round of drinks were delivered quickly but with issues; draft beer was flat and wine was not fresh. When asked, we told the waiter and he brought fresh drinks. Food was o.k., but maybe because it was a Tuesday after a 3-day weekend the cook staff were tired. Overall the place was nice and we will probably try it again.
I was overcharged for the halibut, which I was disappointed about.
Our server was excellent. He was professional and yet friendly and accommodating. What caused me to choose 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of comfort eating outside. Sacramento is known for being quite hot and they need to invest in better fans or an outdoor cool air blower.
My wife and I really like Rio City Cafe, and they didn’t disappoint. Great service food was good. I would recommend rio City to anyone.
It was a very hot day although the outdoor dining area was very comfortable. We were seated and given one menu for two people the waitress stated they were trying to save paper. The waitress bought our appetizer although we had to ask for napkins, silverware and a plate do we could eat our appetizer. One of our main dishes was cooked so hard we sent it back. There was only salt on the table no pepper. During the time we were eating our meal about a 1 1/2 hours our waitress only check on us when we had to ask for her. Overall very dissatisfied with the service and food. Will not return to this restaurant.
The food was delicious, although pricey. Service was friendly and responsive but waitress arrived with mask below her nose and it was like that half the time. We had a reservation and were placed at a table in a tent near the street although there were other tables available on the main deck overlooking the river. It was an ok experience but could have been much better at a nicer table.
had an exceptional meal, excellent service, very relaxing lunch while enjoying the light river traffic and the ducks swimming in the river, it was exactly what my wife and I needed in this unique 2020.
