Rio City Café - Sacramento
Rio City Cafe is situated in beautiful historic Old Sacramento, overlooking some of the most prominent landmarks in Sacramento. The Sacramento River runs by our spacious outdoor patio, with spectacular views of the historic Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat (pyramid) building.
Rio City Cafe opened its doors in May of 1994. We display a comfortably casual setting, with indoor and outdoor seating. We can accommodate large parties and banquets, as well as private parties in our banquet room for special occasions. Or just simply enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and the view in the outdoor cocktail area. During the colder months, enjoy the view from inside near our cozy fireplace.
Dinner was good. Recommended tip percentages on the receipt are way off even if you include the tax in the calculation. 15% was actually 19%, 18% was 25%, and 20% was 30%.
Service is always great but the food is absolutely delicious! Every time I go I try something different and it's always delicious!
Asked for a sunset view, was told they had a "ood" spot for us. Ended up with a table smack dab in the middle. Asked our waiter if we could move to another table. He had to check and comes back with a "I'm sorry". Told him the guy said he had a "good" table for us, can you go ask him where that one is? Hw says how about that one? Yes. Go ahead and take it! Saved it! Was there for the sunset! She was impressed. Tip earned! Thank you Waiter!!!!
Nice ambiance. The seafood chowder and crab cakes were excellent!
The food was very good. My steak salad was perfect! The noise level was quiet but that may have been due to it being a Tuesday night with outdoor/tent dining!
During the Covid situation it was so nice to dine outside on the River and still feel warm and safe. The food was awesome, both had Chinese Chicken Salads and freshly baked bread. The server was very attentive and nice. It was a very enjoyable lunch and outing. Please go and support the kind folks at Rio City.
Quality of food was subpar compared to the prices...
The drink are great and food was good.
Delicious food, great ambiance and friendly staff.
View was nice, not to crowded. Drinks were goof, coconut Shrimp was awesome and crispy. Salmon was over cooked & rice undercooked asparagus was good..
Our server, Catherine, couldn’t have been better. My prime rib dip was over cooked but still ok with dip & horseradish sauce. Fruit crumble dessert was excellent.
My first time there. The staff was very friendly the atmosphere was great and the food was out of this world I had this steak hash for brunch. Wish it was a little warmer so we could have sat outside but then the last a great experience
The Cafe was serious about Covid 19 regulations so felt safe. The food was delicious and a good mix of options. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend for a nice lunch.
Great food. Sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the sights on the river. COVID protocols were present so felt safe. Enjoyed the brunch and bottomless mimosas.
Crab cakes and coconut prawns are a great way to start, perfect for the river setting. A cup of the rich smooth clam chowder followed by a crispy house salad should be next. Then we followed up with the salmon, very fresh and prepared exactly as requested. Really enjoyed the hot dinner rolls that were served when we had our cocktails. The service, as always, is friendly, and properly paced. The requirements for Covid 19 are carefully followed by staff. Altogether, a very positive out/door dining experience. Thumbs up!
We had a 6:00 pm reservation, requesting a water-front outdoor table for a birthday celebration. Three of us arrived at 5:50 pm and the fourth was on his way from dropping off some important docs at FedEx. Manager wouldn't seat the other three even though they were ready to order drinks and appetizers. When the fourth arrived, we were escorted to our table. There was a waterfront table available, but we couldn't be seated there because of server overload. Now a few minutes after 6, we asked to order drinks on the Happy Hour menu. Server told us "you just missed it ... ends at 6:00 pm, sorry". We ordered drinks and appetizers. Fried calamari was cold ... drinks OK. Ordered dinner: 3 halibut specials and one salmon. Halibut was overcooked and dry ... for $39! Reminded server of birthday dinner ... no mention or acknowledgement of it. We have liked this place in the past and understand that COVID has taken its toll on restaurants, but we were really disappointed.
Excellent food wonderful environment
The food was excellent! We started off with appetizers and shared the ahi nachos. Best we've ever had. For dinner I ordered the filet and my friend's ordered the fish and chips. We all loved our food. We sat outside overlooking the water.
Love the table overlooking the water. The service was fast and efficient. The food was very good, but would have liked a little more crab.
Wonderful experience. We sat by the water, had delicious sandwiches, provided by attentive staff wearing masks. Felt very safe. Highly recommend.
Ahi nachos are to die for! The calamari is fantastic. Great drinks and view. We had one of the best servers I've had in....well, forever.
We were disappointed in the food on this, my second visit to Rio City Cafe. I had previously eaten brunch there last year and it was excellent. The chicken vegetable soup was watery, the coconut shrimp was overcooked, and the crab melt was just so-so. Even the coleslaw was somewhat tasteless. We were seated right next to the clearing station where they dump, very loudly, the used dishes which was not pleasant. We hope this was just a bad day for the kitchen as we love the location right on the river, and the outdoor patio is terrific.
Very nice outdoor dining on the river. The hostess was really nice and graciously accommodated our request for a different table. I would recommend reservations. My ribs were tasty but cool in the center. My husband loved his maple bourbon fillet.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly! Food was delicious, as were the drinks. My boyfriend and I shared the Sourdough Cheese Loaf, Rio Prime Rib Dip, and the Tri Color Cheese Tortellini. Sooo good! In my reservation I had requested a table with a view of the river & bridge, when we arrived there wasn’t a table that fit my request, however the hostess informed us that a party of 2 was about to leave so we waited about 5-8 minutes and it was worth it! My boyfriend was visiting from SoCal and he really enjoyed the view and food! Thanks so much Rio City Café! You made his last meal with me in NorCal a great one!
I’ve had dinner and lunch here and it has always been pleasant. This afternoon the table next to us was rather on the more energetic side and most likely day drinking which is definitely ok but I could barely hear myself. Not a complaint but an observation. I couldn’t decide which salad the Chinese chicken salad or the crab Louie salad. I asked the waitress and she suggested the Louie salad. I was excited as I’m a seafood lover. When the salad arrived the dressing was just too much. When I bit into a shrimp it was not how a shrimp texture should be. Rather tough and like it was old. And the salad smelled not fresh. I squeezed the lemon on it and the smell was still apparent. I took a few bits and that was it. Maybe it was a bad day for salad. I normally enjoy dining here and will give it another try.
It's a good place to eat outdoors and see the river. Service and food are good. They follow COVID-19 rules for masks and spacing. Menus are paper and thrown away. It's the third time I've been there since restaurants opened up again.
Love going to Rio City. Always good service and food quality is always top notch. The only problem that night was the bathroom was very dirty. Seems like the staff never did a bathroom check. Hope they fix that problem especially during these times.
Amazing view and amazing food! Had a great time
Our waitress was outstanding. Knows the menu as well as the wine. The late afternoon dinner was on the patio and friends were able to bring their small dog. Looking out over the river outstanding. We had our boat driver drop us off and pick us up at the dock.
River City Cafe, 5 stars all the way around
I’ve always loved Rio City Cafe. I used to eat here a lot when I worked downtown. I was pleased with everything the restaurant has done to keep customers safe in the Covid environment. Since I hadn’t been there for a really long time & have not been doing much dining out since Covid so I was really looking forward to sitting out on the deck, enjoying the peaceful river & having a nice lunch out with a friend. Unfortunately, the day turned out to be windy but that was okay because they moved us up closer to the building out of the wind. However, what really spoiled it, which I know is not in the control of the restaurant, was a couple of boats that felt like it was really cool to start their very loud boats, sit at the dock & rev their engines over & over. Then proceeded to go back & forth in front of the restaurant several times all while making sure they went by slow & loud. It was so rude to the Rio City Cafe customers & the wait staff. They couldn’t even take orders until the boat(s) were far enough away so they could be heard. It was nice to be back but very disappointing that inconsiderate people had to spoil the beautiful atmosphere for so many others!
Nice setting, good service, ample parking, friendly staff ... will probably return.
This a great a place to eat. Especially if you’re seated on the patio looking out on to the river. The service was great. The French toast is so good!!
The food was not good. Probably will not be back. Bottomless mimosa made the experience better
Love this place the food and service is great and sitting on the river is awesome
The appetizers were wonderful, but the main dishes were so so.
Perfect seating arrangements and the food and service was great! Thank you!
Honestly feel like the quality has declined recently. Went to have dinner with my husband’s boss. Ambiance on the patio was great but definitely less luxe with Covid precautions.
Had the salmon with lobster butter sauce. Sauce was great, salmon was slightly undercooked and lobster was chewy but lacked any color at all (kind of greige).
Hubs had the jumbalaya which was yummy.
Overall disappointing because this place used to be amazing
Beautiful setting right on the river, quiet, excellent service and food. Love eating here one of my favorites.
We arrived to our 10am Sunday Brunch reservation. Small number of people awaited the opening. Perfect day to eat outside on the river. Not busy at 10am. Outdoor patio tables plenty distanced, staff wearing masks and provided excellent service. We both had the crab Benedict. Delicious! And we split a Ramos Fizz, which they split at the bar so we each received our drink in a double-old fashioned glass. Perfect size and delicious. Highly recommend Rio City Café. We will be back!
They have open air dining and good food. It was nice to get out to eat. A little expensive.
