Went with extremely high expectations. Was blown away. This staff has every right to be as pretentious as their talent is world class; but they were not at all. From the front door to back, it is a true bastion of hospitality. You’re made to feel welcome and at home, and then fed world class food, served world class wine with zero pretense. Exotic and comfortable at the same time. Will be back again and again and again.
Our anniversary. Great table, wonderful service, and excellent food!
Resturant August had interesting food selections as well as a phenomenal New Orleans atmosphere. However, at the premium price tag demanded by most every menu item, both the portion sizes and flavor left a little bit to be desired. Granted, the chefs at Resturant August put together interesting combinations, in a city like New Orleans, where good food is plentiful, the price point was not justifiable.
Went there for a special date. Had the vegetarian tasting menu and it was phenomenal.
One of the best dinners and dining experiences we have ever had! Our sincere thanks go out to Robert Kerner, Captain who helped us navigate the landscape of their marvelous dinner menu. Although we are not vegetarians, we decided on the Farmers’ Market Vegetables Tasting and Wine Paring. Each dish was exquisite both in taste and presentation. We were not disappointed! For one of our dishes, the sommelier came to our table to explain the wine pairing, pour the wine, and answer our questions. The service from Robert and his team was exceptional. Thank you!
Great food and service. Mark did an outstanding job as our server and is a great representative of the rrestaurant. Thank you!
It’s great place. I am happy with everything I ate. The service is great tok
We really enjoyed our anniversary dinner at August. The tasting menu was fantastic as always.
Red beans with octopus sounds strange but was excellent as was the lamb. They allow you to mix from the very nice vegetarian tasting as well. squash blossoms are very good. The service is always excellent. Well worth the drive downtown.
The food. The wine. The service. Outstanding. Blown away.
Highly recommend the handcrafted cocktails, and the watermelon shrimp ceviche dish was fantastic!
Service was outstanding. I really appreciate such a fine dining experience.
Try the Fois Gras Three Ways. I've had it many times, and it's always excellent. The food is creative, and the service is always wonderful. I recommend the back room - always quiet and elegant.
When we arrived at August we were promptly seated. The service was impeccable, as multiple people attended to our evening. The sommelier came to the table to discuss our wine selection, which I appreciated. The meal was well prepared and delicious. My wife had the vegetarian tasting menu, which I didn’t think I would like but it was superb (yes I tested each of her courses).
I’ve eaten at all the top restaurants in New Orleans, some even lauded as the best of New Orleans for particular years. (Restaurant August has been listed in the past few years but I had just not made it by there until now.)
I can recall 5 times in the past 5 years that I thought my food and the service were amazing as I expected they should be.
Now I can increase my number to 6.
The flavor combinations of our appetizers and entrees were truly perfection. Robert was lovely as were all the wait staff.
Thank you for a memorable experience!
We will definitely be recommending Restaurant August to friends.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. However, there has been a change in the kitchen and dessert department and the Pastry Chef has left and been replaced. They took the best dessert I've ever eaten off the menu: the Pineapple Souffle. Very disappointing. What was replaced were rather pedestrian and unimaginative desserts. All four of use were very disappointed in the desserts. Also, the overall quality of the food seemed to be less as well since Besh left. I had the duck, which was very tough and fatty. One of the pieces was actually a big chunk of gristle. I get that duck is fatty, but not tough, rubbery fat like this piece. It was inedible. My wife loved her P&J oysters and she and another guest had the flounder which they loved, but myself and the fourth guest had very mediocre entrees. Restaurant August was a disappointing experience this time around. We will probably give it another try, but I am saddened the quality level has gone down since April. We have been numerous times before and it was always fantastic until this visit this past weekend.
What a wonderful evening ! Everything was top notch ! Can't wait to go there again. The service was impeccable, the food was innovative and delicious and the surroundings were beautiful. The wait staff provided excellent information on the dishes. The noise level was perfect allowing for quiet conversation. We would recommend Restaurant August to anyone for any occasion.
I've eaten at most of the top restaurants in New Orleans, but I think this may be the best of the best. The meal is always amazing; the service is perfect; and the atmosphere is conducive to a wonderful dining experience. It's pure bliss.
Fabulous meal! We did the tasting with wine pairing. It was exceptional.
Excellent food and friendly staffs. Very romantic and cozy place
Fantastic evening overall. Over the top service and food was very unique and so full of flavor. We can’t wait to get back and try more of the menu.
29 th Anniversary...great restaurant!
As with some other finer restaurants, I find August's main course selections rather limited and conventional, but the vegetable tasting menu was anything but! Very creative and imaginative and well executed dishes. The salad of stone fruits and the squash blossoms were especially outstanding. Also excellent and uncommon wine pairings. I was very pleased.
This restaurant was a highlight of our stay in NO. Best restaurant we dined at while there.
We came twice within a 2 week period because the experience was astounding! The food is phenomenal! Will return!
This was an incredible dining experience. We had the vegetable tasting menu and it was out of this world...service was perfect, all-around brilliant.
An interesting fusion of modern dining and old style setting.
The menu was concise, though the seafood was great, though lacked the creole flavors we were looking forward to.
Service was very good, though waiting staff were somewhat stretched at times.
A touch pricy considering the quality and in comparison, Brennan’s in Houston (another Creole fine dining restaurant) provided more selection and creole flavors at a more reasonable price!
Still all in all a worthwhile visit!
I don't think we will ever forget eating here. August came highly recommended from several friends, so we decided to finally get it on our recent visit to NOLA. We made early reservations and are glad we did because the place is breathtaking. Our server, Robert, was amazing. He made us feel welcome and provided tons of information on drinks and food. I don't think there is a bad option on the menu. I won't go into what we ate individually because you should experience it for yourself. I know we will be back.
Awesome, our waiter, Robert was special.
Deserves more than 5 stars. Everything was perfect from the décor, atmosphere, cocktails, all the courses, and the staff. Every morsel was perfect! Never have experienced a less than stellar meal or less than wonderful time at August.
We had never been to August before, so our expectations were not set. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent experience. Although the menu was limited we had no trouble finding seafood dishes that were perfectly done. The flounder Pontchartrain was done perfectly and so was the roasted snapper. The only fly in the ointment was that one of the oysters in the snapper dish wasn't good, and we mentioned it to our server.
Everything else about August was superb, and we look forward to coming back!
Started out in the bar for a glass of wine - Matt was super helping with selection of both the wine for my partner and previewing the dinner options. We had 7:00 pm reservations so it was a quiet start but all tables were filled by the time we left. Began with the shrimp & crab ravigote salad after the complimentary egg starter (both were delicious - photos below). The dressing for the salad was one of the highlights! Followed that with the gnocchi and the Asian influenced shrimp etouffee (which were more like what we would call "pot stickers" up north). best duck that I have had for an entrée. My partner loved the flounder - the Béarnaise sauce was heavenly rich.
Want to thank Erin for her recommendation of the Boony Doon Picpoul as an alternative to the Cakebread. Always looking for a fun alternative to an old standard!
Fabulous meal and great service. Mark was outstanding!!
Beautiful restaurant that has an amazing menu and service! We will be back the food is incredible!
Wonderful food and service. A bit expensive but great food isn’t cheap. :-)
Food and service are excellent as always. Lawson provided outstanding service.
Overall I was unimpressed with my experience here. The waitstaff were stuffy, and the ambiance was quiet yet uncomfortable, I felt like we were being judged for being a younger couple. The food was overpriced for the quality. I got an appetizer for my meal, and the waiter suggested I get the “starter portion” as opposed to an entree portion because it was “rich.” Yet when I received it, it was about two bites of food. The quality of the food for the price was ridiculous, I’ve had a lot better food for way cheaper. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone who wants a romantic dinner, there are many other restaurants to choose from in this city that have better food, service, and prices. Not worth the $100 meal we had that consisted of appetizers and no drinks because the entrees and drinks were overpriced.
Food was pedestrian and some dishes made no sense. A big disappointment.
Great night from start to finish. We we warmly welcomed and treated royally by all the staff. Would recommend highly and will definitely go back on my next visit to New Orleans.
Since the departure of John Besh I don't think this restaurant is as good as it was.
Very unfortunate but is what it is. It is just not as good.
We enjoyed our meal. The menu is just too short.
This is our favorite restaurant in New Orleans! We always have an enjoyable experience here!
