We did the tasting menu for our 20th anniversary. We’ve had a lot of good dinners in our years, this one was one of the best if not THE best. Right sized portions, great flavors, excellent wine pairings. They knocked it out of the park.
One of my all time favorite spots . I have never left here disappointed.
Amazing! Fresh ingredients and the waiters and waitress were great in recommending. Will definitely go back when I'm in New Orleans again!
Food, service and ambiance was spectacular
We went there for a birthday dinner and were not dissappointed. I had soft shell crab dinner and it was awesome. Also drinks at the bar were perfectly made. Well done all the way around.
There are many very good restaurants in New Orleans but August is our favorite. Everything is first class from the food to the cocktails to the professional wait staff. If you like fine dining this is the place for you. If you want very large portions this is not the place to go. Food is extremely well prepared and inventive.
Amazing from beginning to end! Every dish was out of this world delicious and the service was impeccable. This dinner was up there on our top dining experiences we’ve ever had.
Great business lunch!
Wife and I went to Restaurant August for lunch on a recent Friday. This was our third visit but our first for lunch. She loves it. Me not so much. This is my review not hers. We were seated in the windowless wine room, which might be nice in the evening but is gloomy during the day. I opted for the prix fixed lunch, a bargain at $28:00. First course was a corn and shrimp soup, with a pleasant broth but perhaps a tablespoon of corn and chopped shrimp. The soup was tasty but thin. I would wish for a bit more substance. My main course was pork dumplings in an Asian scented broth with some diced but undercooked root vegetables. I found the pork dumpling wrappers tough and the pork stuffing virtually tasteless. The “Asian” broth was unpleasant, lacking in subtlety. Lunch was rescued by the dessert, which was absolutely delicious. Wife ordered a dish of red snapper a la carte. She reports that it was marvelous.
We went there for lunch for Mother's day with my 4 y.o. and my 3 y.o. The food was superbe and the atmosphere was relax. It's a fine restaurant but the kids were not really out of place. We had a table in the corder which was perfect. Both waiters were very knowledgeable and friendly.
If you are a table for two at August and a large group arrives, you will feel slighted. It's happened to us before and it happened this time. We ordered the tasting with wine pairings, and we won't do it again. While the food is fine (nothing mindblowing, but it was all good), and the wine great, at this price point, we shouldn't be rushed through the first few courses then ignored because of a large group. It's not the captain's fault, it's management for spreading the captains too thin. It doesn't help when the large table is also demanding and feels the captain is their personal attendant. We left feeling cheated out of our experience, and also feeling sorry for our captain who was going to have a long night ahead of him with that group.
My husband and I booked Restaurant August for our 6th wedding anniversary dinner. Although we are locals and have thought about dining here many times before, we never had. There was creativity and an abundance of flavor in every single dish we ordered. The meal was excellent and the service was outstanding. We will definitely eat there again.
Food is high quality and beautifully served and presented. Our server was very knowledgeable about menu and the way dishes are prepared. The sommelier made excellent recommendations about wine pairings. It always feels like a special event to dine at Restaurant August.
The selection was excellent with a separate vegetarian menu which was a welcome relief from the fried food which seems to dominate NOLA menus. Our favorite was the truffled gnocchi with crab. Servers were attentive but not intrusive. A great dining option.
Our first time here was not a disappointment. Both food and service were excellent.
My only complaint was the poor table. When I confirmed my reservation I asked to get a good table and they said no problem, we’ll be happy to do so. When the four of us arrived we were placed at a table in the back room nearest the kitchen, I believe. The front two rooms are quite nice, but my request for a good table was not respected. Maybe I am asking for too much??
Called ahead and told them someone in our party was vegan and they were incredibly accomodating.
Excellent for foodies as well as people who just enjoy good food. The service was excellent without being cloying and the staff was able to explain the dishes. I was a solo diner and was treated like they were happy to have me!
I was surprised for the quality of their food and excellent service
I have been to Restaurant August a number of times and find them consistently exceptional.
We walked into the restaurant unprepared and did not expect an upperclass restaurant. That is not the restaurant's fault and we will judge the restaurant as an upscale restaurant. We did not have time for the full menu and therefore ate a la carte. The menu is rather limited in choices and almost all dishes contained crab which my girlfriend does not like. Also, the restaurant is very noisy. On the upside: service was exellent and the dishes we had were also very good. It is a very good restaurant, but we feel it falls a bit short in the league of restaurants in this pricerange.
Great place to celebrate a 50th bday!!
Excellent Food! Always a Top 5 when we come to NOLA
Fried oysters in a potato crust were terrific. Batter on soft shell crab was way too heavy and overwhelmed the crab. Attentive server and lovely, quiet room.
I brought my girlfriend here with the intent of proposing to her after a good meal, and August delivered as well as I could have dreamed: Mark took care of us, and was more than willing to help when I asked him to help me propose. The experience could not have been better and I would recommend August without hesitation.
This is one of the best restaurants in the country! Wonderful food and terrific service.
Continues to be the best restaurant in New Orleans. No easy feat!
My wife and I were seated for our reservation at a wonderful table right away. Service was outstanding all night. We chose the degustation menu with wine pairings - was everything we hoped for.
While it was a sort of birthday dinner for both of us as we have birthdays two weeks apart we didn’t put anything down as a special occasion. Somehow they thought it was our anniversary which was kind of fun to read on our dessert plates. Hopefully another table didn’t miss out.
I would come back for sure!
Excellent overall. Wife’s duck outstanding. My flounder a bit dry and sauce slightly too tart. Will be back.
Had a creamy gnocchi and delicious duckling entree. Always hitting the high culinary notes.
This was our second visit to August. The menu structure had changed a bit, and we enjoyed the tasting menu. One of us had the vegetarian tasting option, the other did not. With the exception of the lamb course, we each preferred the vegetarian dish for each course. That is not to say that the non-veg dishes were not excellent, but only that the vegetarian options were more interesting and unusual. Of note, the carrot angolotti was especially delicious and technically perfect. The lamb main with a bit of lamb sausage and lamb loin was tremendous. For the desert course, we had the dark chocolate buttermilk drops and a cheese plate. We will definitely come again our next time in town.
An entirely pleasant experience for both of us. Our request for a table in the beautifully wood-paneled middle dining area was graciously accommodated. The hors doevres chef’s gift was exceptional-a hollowed out eggshell filled with aerated creamed corn custard-light as a cloud! Potato gnocchi with blue crab, crisped parmesan topped generously with shaved truffle was a superb rendition. Roasted snapper with shrimp, oyster and blackened scallion rice was excellent. The cane syrup lacquered duckling with crispy farro, Swiss chard and creole mustered was worth raving about. We shared the dark chocolate buttermilk drops sitting on roasted almond cereal, creme fraiche and luxardo cherries for a”WOW” desert. One “caution” - The bread is addicting!!
Spectacular as always. Been coming for years everytime Im in NOLA
Food was lukewarm. I returned it so they could hear it up. Came back look warm again. Just didn’t get it.
Excellent, attentive service in a beautiful setting. The food was expertly prepared. Extensive wine list, and knowledgeable staff. Perfect place for a wonderful dining experience.
The perfect spot for a special anniversary dinner. Excellent service, outstanding food - you truly get what you pay for.
Best Duck I've ever had! Great Restaurant Experience, everyone was so helpful, and caring.
We love August! Impeccable food, fabulous service!
