We have often eaten at August, but we were sorely disappointed this time. Amuse bouche--bland and way too salty. It came in an eggshell (neat) but for a tiny helping, why am I crunching through huge salt grains? It supposedly had three different flavors, but they all tasted the same--boiled cauliflower puree. Okay, it was lagniappe but as an advertisement for what was to come, it proved to be an omen. The bread--a whole wheat mini baguette--was plentiful with a nice crust, but way too dry, verging on stale, and strangely tasteless. One had to really work to eat this bread, which is not a deal-breaker, but doesn't make for a very pleasant experience and The appetizers (duck confit, crawfish beignets, garlic soup) were underwhelming, to say the least. The hot and sour shrimp was good, but the duck confit was perched on top of a huge bowl of greens soaked to wilting in dressing. It should have been called "a huge bowl of wilted overdressed greens with some bits of overcooked duck confit mixed in." The beignets were bland, soggy, not very crawfishy. The garlic soup--again bland, starchy, not garlicky. So weird--we are used to mouth-watering, delicious food at this restaurant. The flounder with seafood had a lovely crust and a bearnaise mousse-like sauce, but the pompano was overcooked to chewy brick-like consistency and honestly, we wondered if it was even pompano. It's sad when after-dinner pralines are the most memorable part of a meal--and I don't even like pralines! So, of course, we felt that the restaurant did not give good value for its very pricey but unimpressive food. The service too seemed odd: our main waiter did nothing but ask us what we thought of the food while leaving all the work to his assistant, who was very attentive but a bit frazzled (no wonder, since she had to do EVERYTHING). The main waiter seemed distant, uninformative, and perfunctory. Again, we are used to quite a different experience, so perhaps it was just an off night.
Overall it was a positive dining experience. The food, ambiance and table service was very high quality. The only downside was the front desk experience. We called to inform them we’d be 5-10 minutes late and the guy on the phone was quite rude. He said he’d put us in the ‘lounge’ if we were late and he just sounded so snooty. We almost cancelled based on that call. Other than that, great evening.
Awesome from beginning to end! Every course was delicious!!!
We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. Every dish hit the mark. The service was amazing and each dish was presented with meticulous details of the ingredients and the preparation. The wine pours were quite generous and the wait staff was professional yet interactive in their style
Always a great experience - already looking forward to the next opportunity to visit!
A memorable experience. The food was incredible, service and attention to detail was amazing.
We love it there but the waiter did not suggest sides with our entree and nothing came with it. We had been there before and there was always some sort of vehicle or carb with it. Luckily we ordered salads but get real $40 for main dish just is not right without some small accompaniment. Been there 4 times probably won’t go back.
Robert and Anne Marie plus another lady who came to chat pour wine, made a wonderful culinary experience even better!
Enjoyed this restaurant very much. Great food, quiet, fabulous service!
Wonderful service and food was so creative and delicious.
Left cc by accident. No call and when we went to retrieve it, not welcoming. Made to wait outside until a manager showed up. Just sayin’
The restaurant was fabulous. It wasn't bright in the restaurant, the lighting was very soft and mute. The floral arrangement was breathtaking. The food was delicious. Glad that I put this on my list as a must see.
Came here for dinner with my new wife the evening after our lovely wedding. We both ordered the degustazione menu with the Sommelier's pairings and it was absolutely superb!! I look forward to returning to New Orleans each year to celebrate our marriage and hope to make Restaurant August a part of that tradition as well. Thank you for the unforgettable evening!
Excellent services and friendly accommodations for food allergies. The duckling and the olive oil ice cream/chocolate mousse were superb.
We were delighted with our meal at August! It is one of the more memorable meals we have had while traveling. The ambiance was lovely (but not stuffy) and the service was impeccable. Each dish we ordered was outstanding - the enjoyment just kept coming! Highly recommend for anyone traveling to New Orleans.
Service was terrific, food excellent and had ambiance. Loved it!
Outstanding food and service. Will go back without doubt next time we visit N.O
It was a great experience. enjoyd everything. Highly recommended.
We had the lunch prix fixe and it was a great value, delicious and just the right amount of food.
Great across the board!
Excellent service by Richard and the food was outstsnding
Excellent lunch. Ask for Scott, get the price fixe, and a bottle of bubbles.
It's not Restaurant August ,it's Restaurant- of- the Year.Lucy Newman, our attendant, gave us exceptional service.
Every bite was amazing! So much thought went into everything they prepared and presented. The waitstaff were well informed, attentive but not intrusive. Definitely a special occasion place.
Very interesting menu and superb wait staff. Although the menu seemed limiting at first we found they could vary some of the offerings and accommodate us very nicely. Food was beautifully prepared.
Service was excellent as they know and care how to let customers enjoy their dining without feeling rushed which is something many restaurants have forgotten
Try to get a seat in one of the front two rooms...nicest ambiance.
I had read reviews about Restaurant August but the actual experience was delightful. The service is excellent, the food was outstanding, and the ambiance is stunning. What a treat!
We had a delightful time and delicious dinner. Was wonderful in every way!
Robert was fantastic. Attentive to every detail.
Exceptional service and wonderful food in a beautiful and warm environment. Small menu offers a nice diversity, something for everyone. Special requests are no problem. Service is warm and helpful. Will definitely return. Great experience.
The food was good the service excellent, but this was an expensive restaurant and saved for a special occasion and it was good, but I expected outstanding. Did not meet my expectations.
I was pretty annoyed when my husband and I first arrived as it was brunch and I was in need of caffeine....quickly. So right away I was not happy...however when I did speak up - to another server he apologized profusely and brought me back an amazing pot of French press coffee. The rest of our time there was outstanding. The food is just incredible as were the Bloody Marys and the seevice😉. Highly recommend.
We had the degustation menu with the pairing which was a great choice. Robert who was a server / maitre d’ provided probably the best service I have ever had.
The degustation menu with the sommeliers pairings made for a lovely date night.
Best dining experience in NOLA
Very pleasant & opulent
Lovely old building and conveniently a few blocks from Canal Street. The staff were attentive; I was escorted to the restroom instead of just provided with directions. If you are celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself this is the place to go. The food was delicious-swordfish, duck, and oysters. The only reason we didn’t have dessert is because the starter and entree were so good we ate it all.
