We are from the SF Bay Area and in New Orleans for the first time. We heard a lot about the wonderful culinary experience and so far every one of the highly rated restaurants we tried have proven to be excellent.

We read about Restaurant August and decided to give it a try for lunch. The food was amazing but the service was less than what we would have expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Maybe it was because we were in our travel attire when we showed up for our reservation, but the receptionist was not very friendly and welcoming. We were surprised that this experience also extended to the wait staff who seem to have this stoic look on their faces. There were no smiles or any effort for friendly conversation, not even a question on how we liked the food.

We have eaten at many well regarded restaurants and this stuffy manner seems to be out of sync with the modern times. I hope management can pay some attention to this essential element of creating an enjoyable dining experience for their guests. Again, we enjoyed the food but the attitude could definitely use some improvement.

Although we have had better meals at August in the past, the service was exemplary. Could not have asked for a better evening overall!

Our family met in NOLA for a conference my husband was attending. Both of my sons (20 -something year olds) who are foodies and had never been to NOLA were excited to experience August. They loved the tasting menu and my husband and I enjoyed the wonderful selections from the menu.

The food was perfect, service was just a little rushed. Had to wait an extra 20 minuets for our table even though we arrived early. Save your money, if you’re an average Joe like us you only do this once in a lifetime and it’s going to cost you.

Service was poor. Maybe short handed. Should have brought us from the bar earlier. Waited too long for water and wine.
Excellent food but pricey so everything should be right. Ran us out for next seating but should have moved things along with better service earlier in the evening so that they would not had to push us out.

Enjoyed a nice meal here on a mother daughter trip to New Orleans. Menu has limited options, but all good. We had oysters, shrimp étouffe, duck and pork. All very good.

The food was very good and the service was very attentive. However it took quite a while for our two fish entrees to come out. The restaurant provided us an additional appetizer to share to fill the extended wait time. That appetizer was good, but the overall experience would have been better if the entrees had come out more timely.

The first time we dined at August, it was crowded & noisy. We had the tasting menu and were not impressed. It's been years so we decided to give it a second try. My husband decided to try the tasting menu again. The portions were small & over rated. The sauce on the lamb was too spicy. Two of the four courses had too much vinegar. I had the flounder which is one of the house specialties! It was very good except for the foamy Bernaise sauce. The sauce had a good taste but I didn't care for the foamy consistancy. We have eaten at comparable restaurants in many cities and this restaurant does not measure up!

Quite simply the best meal we have had all year. My husband had the gnocchi and flounder. I had the hanger steak. So delicious. Service was perfect. They never hovered but were there when we needed something.

Restaurant August provided a wonderful dinner in a lovely old New Orleans setting. Being across the street from our hotel, the terrific Windsor Court, was an added bonus. My entree of flounder was superb and my husband's entree of scallops was the best he has ever had. The rest of the meal was wonderful as well. When in New Orleans make this restaurant a must for dinner.

Restaurant August provides an excellent dining experience from start to finish. The service was outstanding and our waiter Robert was very gracious and knowledgeable.

The food was also top notch. I had the duck which was superb in quality and preperation.
My friend had the lamb dish which was also excellent , the Brussels sprouts the accompanied the dish were perfectly cooked with just enough smokiness to make them really stand out.

The cocktails we had were original and perfectly balanced.

Overall the dining experience was above expectations and I would highly recommend eating here if you are in New Orleans

Restaurant is decorated very nice and everyone was dressed apprpriate for fine dining. Staff was ver helpful and friendly. Wine list is superb and there is a sommelier to help you pick best wine available for pairing. Food was excellent. I must say the grits were excellent and different than any I had before. My son had hanger steak, my wife had the grouper, and I had duck. We all said it was delicious. Oh by the way the desert was excellent. This has become our favorite restaurant in New Orleans maybe, or at least tied for first. We eat in New Orleans a lot and will be coming back to August.

Beautiful upscale setting, delicious, inventive, artfully prepared courses, impeccable service - attentive but never intrusive. The prix fixe lunch must be the best deal in town, a chance to sample from the menu. Each course is a feast for the eyes and palate. Well balanced in terms of flavor and texture. Favorite dishes: pumpkin soup w creme fraiche and pepitas, pork pappardelle, and caramel apple panna cotta. Plus the pralines and macarons sent by the chef. Will be back to dig deeper into the menu.
