VERY good food, delicious cocktails and friendly staff.
It was a great evening.
The only downside is the noise level. We 1st sat at a table in the back (blue room), our ears hurted and we had to change the table.
Everything was new, I assume the interior designer has zero experience in sound insulation... too bad
We stopped in for lunch while we were at The Myrtles for a tour. It was just wonderful!
The food was excellant. Liked the farm to table concept but results in a rather limited menu. We were disappointed with the exuberance of the wait staff. They were attentive but not sensitive to selling the overall concept of the resturant. The noise level did not help with enjoying the evening. I was disappointed with the casual attire of the wait staff. A resturant of this caliber should present a better image. The bar area was very lacking in detail.
Very odd menu. The small plates/sharables are huge. Too much for two people
Having been to 1796 several times for supper, I was excited about the brunch opening, and I was not disappointed. Started with the roasted peppers (waitress encouraged me as I am not a "pepper person", but the unique smoked flavor and the mild "heat" of the peppers along with the wonderful sauce and the presentation was superb. I had the "cheese straws" and the oyster sandwich. First of all, I could eat a bowl full of those "straws", and the oysters were cooked to perfection. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.
The food was excellent ! Very well done. Nothing can be prefect but it's damn close too. Also to be on location of the Plantation is absolutely wonderful.
We arrived 15 minutes before our 7:15 pm reservation and were quickly seated. We sat for approximately 20 minutes before anyone took our drink order. Our waiter was not knowledgeable about the menu and was unable to answer questions we had about the menu. We waited for over an hour for our food and was once told by the waiter that he put our order in but the kitchen did not receive it. When we received our food, the steaks were terribly over cooked. We ordered them medium. They were burned to a crisp on the outside and medium well AT BEST in the center. Our table was never offered more water. We were very disappointed.
When we went they had been open for about four weeks. The food and service was excellent. The owner was very nice and took the time to come by our table to make sure everything was ok.
One of the things that was very interesting is that they cook over wood. They have an open hearth type stove that has split wood burning with grates that raise and lower over the coals. You can actually dine at a counter that overlooks the whole cooking process.
Out table had the duck, a NY Strip, roasted chicken and the fish. All were very good. The "c'zar" salad was very interesting because it had different types of lettuce. It was delicious.
They have a good wine menu - not over the top- but more than adequate.
Most of the guests were dressed in upscale casual. I hope they can keep the "blue jeans and tee shirt with a baseball cap on at the table" crowd at bay. It was very nice to have a more upscale restaurant in St. Francsiville as a dining option and it would be a disappointment to lose that.
Really loved 1796 and can’t wait to go back.
Good food but service was a bit slow! Desserts were great....except carrot cake! There was a printer “glitch” which gave us a bill that included double billing for several entrees, extra side which we didn’t order, & 25 cents for an olive in a martini as well as a 50 cent charge for tonic in a vodka/tonic order!
First off, the menu is very sparse. There is a chicken dish, a fish dish, a couple cuts of meat, and an oyster plate. The dishes are pretty expensive especially when you consider that no sides are included (Not even a salad). Drinks come in small glasses and tea is normally expected to be refilled but not here. I brought children as this was reported to be kid friendly. No go. There is no children’s menu. Our waitress was absent minded. The manager voluntarily approached my table three times to ask if we were being helped. I was given a dirty napkin with my utensils. All of the food was over cooked. The steak was charred until it tasted like ashes and was very difficult to cut with a knife. We also had the oysters which themselves were good, but the topping of blistered greens was more ashes. We had a 10 dollar side of potatoes which were not cooked through and hard. We also had a 10 dollar cornbread which was about pancake sized. I found it to be good however my wife thought it was over cooked. Now the thing that bugs me the most, however is none of the above, but rather that the glasses smelled strongly of raw fish. Needless to say, we will not be returning
I loved this new restaurant. The design of it is really interesting. The food was very good. It's a bit expensive, but a very nice place to eat and enjoy the surroundings in St. Francisville.
Exquisite meal. Attention to the details is evident. Farm-to-table at its best. Our server was new and it was clear she'd been properly trained. Tableware matches the food - great quality. Decor is fresh and modern. My companion and I shared Mushroom bleu romaine salad w/crushed cashews...oohlala. Cornbread was simple and scrumptious. Catfish burger w/sticky rice made us smile. And the Potato Gravel was reminiscent of cottage fried potatoes my mom prepared when I was a kid - crunchy, crispy exterior and soft interior. Bread pudding, baked in a tiny cast iron pot, with housemade raspberry ice cream was the perfect ending to our meal. I can't wait to return and try more items on the menu!
In La one certainly expects an oyster sandwich to be served on a French Bread and not toast. Value st 13 should include French fries.
I hope staff training improves. We’ve been 4 times since it opened and each time I’ve had to coach the waiter/ waitress on what wines are white vs red. This weekend we were told “the ribeye is $52 so it should be really good!” We’ve eaten at restaurants from Michelin star to holes in the wall and we know good food. The food here will not disappoint but the level of service leaves much to be desired. The bartenders are pleasant and make an excellent martini! The staff are all VERY FRIENDLY but just needs some proper training to help them become more polished. Ambiance is lovely!
Ambience, eclectic menu, pricey. A la cartel sides good for table; expensive for couple.
Restaurant only open short time when we dined there so would hope food choices would improve. Steak entree was cold, oysters just ok slightly over-cooked. Should change breading on oysters, chicken entree was good. No bread was offered. Service was really good. Our server, Aria, was first day there but she was really attentive. We also were checked on the owner (I think). Really like to see this restaurant succeed at The Myrtles B&B.
Food was great and the atmosphere was very nice for a day date. The lunch menu is smaller compared to the dinner menu so I would view the menu before going to make sure they have what you are looking for at lunch. I think they need to add a fish dish to the lunch menu. The service was great and the food was very good. I will go back for dinner.
Cool place. Food was great and atmosphere was wonderful. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The dining area was really nice and suited the surroundings at the Myrtles. Will definitely visit again.
The restaurant decor and atmosphere was so beautiful and unique, like no other restaurant I have ever been to. It was really cozy on a chilly night too. All of the staff, from the hostess to the bartenders, to the owner were waiting for our table. 100% of the attentiveness of everyone there. Our server was warm and friendly and so accommodating. I loved the vibe of this place from the start and the food did not disappoint. Dinner was amazing! There is so much flavor with every single dish! The potato gravel, fire carrots, cauliflower, and fried chicken were impeccable. I tried my moms salmon too and it was incredible, cooked perfectly. The rice pudding, bread pudding and butterscotch pudding were unlike anything any of us have ever had before. My sis in law said the pudding alone was worth the two hour drive. The whole night from start to finish was wonderful! Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Staff was friendly. Our waitress took time to help us understand the menu. Multiple people asked how we were doing throughout dinner. Food was excellent. Couldn't have asked for better.
YO.. WHY IS YALLS FOOD SO GOOD??? LIKE WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??? I AINT NEVER PUT SOMETHING SO GOOD IN MY MOUTH.
Always a great meal here. Especially love the cauliflower, greens, potato gravel. The small plates are wonderful!
Delicious food. Great service. Fabulous atmosphere!
We had our first dinner at Restaurant 1796 for my birthday. It was nothing short of outstanding. We went on a Tuesday night so it was relatively quiet. A few tables enjoying dinner and a perfect view of the live fire hearth and whistling chef in the kitchen. My husband and I enjoyed the avocado arugula cornbread, shishito peppers, golden cauliflower and the duck. Every bit of a 5 star menu. I cannot even give any constructive criticism. We finalized our dinner with cocktails and the smoky pine fired tea ice cream. Wow! Perfection. I am so tickled that this is just down the street from us. We’ll be back as soon as possible!
Everything about our visit was great. It was a New Orleans culinary experience in our fabulous small town of St. Francisville.
Food quality, atmosphere, and service were all EXCELLENT !!!!
For a restaurant to attempt to provide a unique and exceptional experience is a laudable goal. R 1796 appears to have that intent and it is appreciated. Features toward that end need to emerge from the kitchen only when they have passed severe testing there. R1796 has great ambiance. The aim to utilize local food sources is commendable. The staff is friendly and attentive. The "naked" cornbread lives up to its publicized praise. The turnip soup was excellent although without a hint of turnip. My friend and table mate, somewhat of an aficionada on martinis, thought her drink tasted as though it had lemon juice added. Perhaps it did to distract from the seed in the olive. Her beef medallions were tough and chewy to the delight of her dogs later. We had to ask the receptionist to retrieve our go-boxes from the kitchen upon leaving. We may check them out in a few months to see how they're working it out. They have our best wishes.
From the moment we walked into the door we were treated so special. The service was excellent! Great wine selection.
The food was amazing. Desserts to die for. Can’t wait to go back. We are telling all of our friends.
Very friendly service, And the food was absolutely delicious!!
I eat at nice restaurants all over the U.S. entertaining for work. This is one of the best I have been to. Been thinking about their food and Old Fashions since I left. A little on the pricey side so I can’t eat there every night but I sure want to. Will definitely be back soon.
Good restaurant. Very attentive staff. Wine was amazing. Sorta expensive but not bad at all for the experience and food you receive while there.
This is probably one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. I have been to NYC, Vegas, many Louisiana restaurants and this dining experience was my absolute favorite. At first, you walk in and it isn't loud or crowded (we also went on a Tuesday night though) and you don't expect the type of service or food you are about to get. the room looks very empty and quaint. We ordered drinks and they were so flavorful with just enough alcohol to loosen us up. I had the coconut martini and my husband had the old fashioned. We only needed one! We then ordered the cornbread and being that it took a while and the kitchen accidentally burned it, they offered us a complimentary soup with shrimp. WHAT. Who offers free soup for an accident? Which, by the way, was phenomenal. We then order the chicken with potatoes for myself and duck with the cauliflower for my husband. They both came out and WOW. Everything we had, even if we did not like it, was fantastic. You can really tell the kitchen takes their time with the food and loves doing so. The flavors were fantastic and the look was just as good. The entrees were not very large portions, but just enough and the sides were sharing style that were served in large bowls. Both the potatoes and cauliflower came with sauces on top and same with our entrees. All different with all different flavors. My husband couldn't complement the cornbread enough... I mean, everything enough. Which is so odd being a new restaurant, you usually open and progress over time. This restaurant really doesn't need improvement on the food aspect at all. We closed the night with their Bread pudding. Best Bread Pudding. It was served with sorbet and just melted in your mouth. Our service was fantastic and we really cannot compliment this experience enough. They will be opening brunch soon according to our server and we will definitely be back for it. Worth the 45 minute drive and KUDOS TO THE CHEF.
Food was impeccable. Staff was thoroughly trained. I’m looking forward to next visit.
Food was wonderful. Loved the restaurant but the service was the worst I have ever had and I am almost 70. Hopefully just their newness since everything else was so good.
Food was very unique. Things I would have never ordered before. It was all delicious.
Great Food done well, very interesting experience. It is a great place to eat. Local food farm to table. It is so well done and very different from anything else in the area
I hope this restaurant improves over time. The food that was served to us was mediocre at best. The service was fair.
We were visiting from California and were happy that Restaurant 1796 was having their soft opening during our stay at Myrtles Plantation. We ate there both nights. Our servers were fun and attentive. Food was fabulous!! Already planning our return visit.
We had the cauliflower and bacon which was amazing! The cocktails were perfection especially their take on a Moscow mule. We also had the ribeye, fillet and duck! All were amazing as were the potatoes and arugula cornbread! Overall, I can’t wait to go back to try everything else on the menu. My only regret was there was no room for dessert after all the amazing food we had. Beautiful restaurant and amazing food with impeccable service! What more could you ask for.
