This was our third visit to Repeal 18th and our first on a week-night. While our first two visits were dominated by the weekend entertainment (The Dave Stevens Show) which was outstanding, this visit was quiet. As usual, we enjoyed original hand-crafted cocktails before dining. I opted for their signature seasonal smoked whiskey-based cocktail which was absolutely delicious. My wife selected another seasonal feature - a gin-based highball rendered Royals blue with Blue Curacao and topped with a semi-circle of lemon rind notched to look like a crown - a clever salute to our local basebal heroes.
The menu was new and I understand a new chef is holding forth in the expanded, partially open kitchen. My wife opted for the gourmet hamburger matched up with freshly made fries - simple, classic and delicious. I chose the daily special which was a pairing of 3 perfectly seared ocean scallops and 3 look-alike gnocchi served on a lovely tomato-based coulis that added a great flavor contrast to the entree. A glass fo Macon Lugny Les Charmes chardonnay from the short but carefully selected wine list completed the experience.
Our server Alex remembered us from previous visits and she was on top of everything from start to finish. Repeal 18th offers a great combination of a neighborhood bar/restaurant casual atmosphere and top-drawer food and over-the-top cocktails.
Go for the drinks! The food is definitely secondary. But the drinks are fantastic.
Menu was very small
good service, food expensive but mediocre; no vegetarian choices, menu limited. pomme frites awesome
Minimal menu choices but really good food. Nice atmosphere and great outdoor space.
As noted in other reviews, they are understaffed so service was slow (but good). Small plates quite good. Fabulous beet/citrus salad. Fun cocktail menu. Limited beer menu. Nice ambience. Will be an excellent outdoor place once it warms up.
3/ 24:17 our server was exceptional. Food is very good, The ambience is good for a group of two or four. However the drunkenness and noise level spoils that ambience. It's unfortunate that people flock to the bar area and stand around drinking and loud Profanity and laughter etc and push into the surrounding tables of those who are there for an evening of casual dining in a cozy atmosphere.
Great drinks. Octopus was wonderful. Eggplant flat bread needed something to make it perfect.
Nice selection of drinks and delicious brunch food. Good place to go with friends.
The corned beef was tough. They were out of Bombay Sapphire, the key lime breading pudding was runny, too green and tasted like it had Parmesan cheese in it. Couldn’t eat it. The French fries were very good.
First time there and won't be the last. Good food, good drinks, like the vibe!
Fantastic cocktails. Highly recommended if you're looking for an upscale venue.
Service staff very friendly but spread too thin...20+ minutes from initial seating before even seeing anyone...30 min to order drinks.
We had no food but survey won't submit w/o rating
We came for the great live music that was scheduled and were very pleased with our meal also. The service was outstanding. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.
Excellent food. Quick seating and great atmosphere.
Food along with the service were great. Drinks were tasty! Great experience. Happy to have a quality restaurant so close.
We were excited to try this restaurant after looking at the menu on Open Table. When we arrived we were told that the menu had changed three weeks ago, but they hadn’t updated the site. We were disappointed because we went there based on the fact that scallops were on the menu. They were extremely nice and comped our wine. We will try it again with no expectations and am sure their offerings will be great.
We enjoyed a lovely affordable Valentines dinner- appetizers, entrees and desserts were all delicious. Cocktails were intriguing and tasty
As always the food was fantastic. The service was lacking - there was a very large group/party and only two servers for the entire restaurant. I hope at some point they figure out their service because the food and drinks are really good.
This was our second visit and did not live up to our expectations. When an error was made in the kitchen concerning an order our server Alex just apologized, did not offer to fix. The eggplant flatbread was also disappointing in the flavor department. Not sure this place warrants the price tag. We will give it another shot, our first time was a 5/5.
I glad I made reservations. The service was great and the staff was very knowledgeable about the food items. Happy hour until 6:00 was a nice surprise also. It’s a nice place to sit and talk and take in the atmosphere.
We were disappointed that they took reservations for Sunday evening but when we arrived we were notified they did not offer anything other than their "bar menu" to eat. So no main course available to celebrate the 74th birthday we were out to celebrate. That said, the truffle fries were fantastic as were the wine, beer, and whiskey ( a lot to choose from). So take this review with a grain of salt. There were 4 of us and we were at least half the people there. Looking forward to going again on a Friday or Saturday evening so we can actually try the main menu and see how it operates with a full house of customers.
Nice joint, happened upon it on late Monday evening, trying to impress my date and it worked since she was all about kisses afterwards.
Food was surprisingly refined for a reastaurant that looks more like a bar.
Nice service, even nicer cocktails.
There were four us dining and it was our first visit to Repeal 18th. I loved the industrial chic ambience, lighting, intimate space and the gorgeous bar. I tried one of the cocktails - The City - and was not disappointed though I must admit I myself would never have thought to top a cocktail with curry crema. Two of us had the wedge salad and salmon with beets. The other two ordered the pork chop and the steak. We were all extremely please with the meal and our service. I took one star off for food simply because the wedge was topped with something akin to bacon but not the real thing. Blasphemy! Joking aside, we will be back.
We had a reservation (for two) and were seated promptly. Music played throughout the evening
but was not excessively loud and the music played was quite good. Our drinks and charcuterie platter came fairly quickly. The charcuterie is about the best we have had in the KC area. My martini was perfect. Modest wine selection. As the charcuterie plate was pretty big my wife ordered the vegetable and duck soup....it was a bit smoky...and it was really GOOD!!!!
I ordered the short rib with BBQ sauce. Wonderful and quite filling. No room for desert.
Our server was great! and it was busy too. Strong recommendation and we will be back.
A great new flavor in NKC! Different from other hipster fare that has anchored the area revival, Repeal offers a more sophisticated experience. The dishes were creative and well prepared. Highlights were the bone marrow and an excellent kimchi. They sport a truly awesome scotch and whiskey menu, I look forward to coming back to work my way through as much of it as possible. The atmosphere was dark and relatively quiet, which is a big plus for me. I love all the breweries, coffee shops and music venues popping up in town, and now Repeal offers a much needed alternative when you want upscale food and a more intimate environment. Not expected North of the river, and highly recommended.
Our waitress, Sunshine, was wonderful! Knowledgeable, friendly and professional! Food was great - cocktails, excellent!!
Fantastic! One of the only places where the food and service are each outstanding. I will go back soon. 10/10 recommend to anyone who enjoys thoughtfully designed food in judicious quantities and genuine service.
We had a great time. The restaurant was very well decorated and the menu was very diverse. The cocktails were fabulous and the food even better. The truffle fries are a great shareable and the strip steak was cooked perfectly.
Server was wonderful. They had PVW bourbon, very hard to find. Mixed drinks are amazing.
Cool vibe with a prohibition-era feel (although they need to change up the music inside because the R&B I was hearing at one point took me out of the mood the rest of the place was going for). Great service though and knowledgeable staff. I can't wait to go back when it's warm out and sit outside for some live music.
I met someone there for lunch. It was not very busy so our server devoted a lot of time during our first visit. The wild game chili was excellent but I found the burger bun pretty dry, even though the meat was good. We decided that we would try dinner sometime to see what that would be like.
Brunch was delicious and a very good price.
I have been to Repeal 18th twice now, and both times have absolutely loved it. The drinks are awesome, the staff is great, and the food was yummy
Menu changed! Missing some favorites but still very good.
Nice audience food good, eclectic style
Yum! Food was delicious. Cocktails were unique and fun.
I would only recommend this place for drinks and appetizers. I went with a couple foodies and all left completely disappointed in dinner. We did however love the cocktails, ambiance and live music.
Have a great selection of whiskey, bourbon, scotch and wine. Food was a little over priced. Had jazz ensemble that was too loud. Had to talk very loud to hear each other at table of four. Would go for night without music.
Very disappointed in my first visit. Food was quite delayed, arrived lukewarm. Eggplant flatbread had a fishy taste on one long side of the crust. When we asked for coffee with dessert we were told it was the rule that coffee was offered only at brunch.
