We decided to eat here so that we could sit outside and listen to the music. It was so loud that we moved indoors where we could hear the music an also each other. The pizza was quote good and the Ceaser salad very large and good. the cacio et pepe could have used more cheese. What was outstanding was our server Christof. He helped make the night special or at least make us feel special. Alas, he only works on Friday nights but he has a good day job. We would definitely go back again on a Friday and ask for him; we will check on the music first. We did that for the group playing through Youtube; however, what we heard was not indicative of the artist's performance which in now ay reflects upon the restaurant.

I have eaten at Ray and. sharks many times but this time it was AWFUL. I ordered the Thai salad with salmon, some of the vegetables appeared to be elderly and a bit slimey. The salmon was stone cold snd appeared to have been cooked several days ago, as it was hard and chewy and did not taste fresh.

Husband and I had lunch here on Saturday after touring the La Brea Tar Pits (Page Museum and grounds). It was definitely hit and miss. FOOD Whipped burrata - bland, needed a touch of salt and a drizzle of honey. Falafel and hummus - good Tuna melt - ok, needed salt Cacio e Pepe - bland Meatballs - good SERVICE friendly, but major issues. Specifically asked for meal to be coursed (not all come out at once) and were assured that would happen. Took about 30 minutes to receive appetizers, but then mains came out literally 3 minutes later as we had just taken out first bite of appetizers. Had to set aside the burrata to eat pasta and meatballs while they were hot, sent back the tuna melt to be remade after eating the falafel. Never checked back to see if we wanted a second drink or another bottle of water. Asked server for the check, 15 minutes later when the check hadn’t come, the manager stopped by and we asked for the checking again. When he brought the check, it was wrong - our drinks but the entrees from the next table. Told him it was wrong, he disappeared and never returned.. finally our server came back with the check, again wrong with a different combo of the items we ordered and the other table ordered. Tried a third time - again wrong. Finally, the fourth version of the check was correct. It literally took 40 minutes to get the correct check. The server said that they had split a 4-top table (2 tables pushed together) into two 2-tops, and so the table numbering got messed up, leading to the check confusion. I don’t really blame the server, I blame management. While there were plenty of runners/bussers, our server appeared to be the only server (or perhaps there was one more) and was covering both inside and outside tables (we were outside). And the kitchen should have known not to fire appetizers and mains almost simultaneously. Will we go back? Probably, as we are planning to go to LACMA soon, and we did prefer it to the prepackaged food options.

I was at Rays last year in April & recall the food being much better than what 3 of us ordered there yesterday. The caesar salad was the boring version of a great classic, thai peanut salad =blah, tuna melt cheese wasn’t melted and whats with the blob of pickle relish in the middle of the sandwich? Blech- a couple of good pickle slices would’ve been tastier. On the up side, the pizza was passable. If you’re a bread pudding fan- Do Not Order It Here- you’ll be sadly disappointed maybe even angered by the unbalanced flavor which tasted only of wet egg (no spicing nor vanilla) and the texture that was a soggy mess. Our server was perfectly fine & had we complained there was probably nothing she could’ve done to make the food better. I’ve had great meals there in the past. Hopefully once the new building is opened, Ray’s or whatever new incarnation of it will hire a better chef who’ll oversee the quality & produce a nicer dining experience.

Strange night here. Seemed understaffed despite it being jazz night at LACMA. Everything took along time. Appetizers were very good but we all had salads for our mains and they were very disappointing. The Thai peanut salad was basically just cabbage, barely any peanuts and a bland dressing.

I attended the opening of Jazz night at LACMA 2023 and sat at a table which we have done in the past. But this time it took over an hour to receive our dinner order. By the time the food was delivered the second music set was almost ending, the music starts at 6 pm and ends at 7:50 pm. The food was ordered about 6:15 pm and received around 7:40 pm. We were told a few times the kitchen was backed up. Our waiter was gracious but it was a ridiculous wait time eventhough the seating area was not super crowded. Also it appears the menu changed and a favored seafood pasta dish was no longer available. The ambiance was great and live jazz is the draw. I had the fish and chips which was bland. My friend has the Steak frites and said it was tasty. Experiences can be a hit or miss, this time the food service was a "miss".

This restaurant was a lovely dining experience when it first opened. Now it operates like an institutional cafeteria with hurried and unreliable table service. This is such a shame. I used to love dining or lunching here with friends and out of town guests. But I’ve had enough of its current state of being and I won’t return.

The last two times I have gone, the restaurant is empty. Despite having a reservation, the process to be seated at one of the many empty tables is cumbersome. The first time no one saw me waiting to be seated, as the sign instructed me to do. The second time the iPad with the reservations was not working so rather than seat us anyway, they decided to hunt down a working iPad. Only one table in the entire place had people sitting at it (indoors) and we wanted an outdoor table (all of them were empty!).

Ray's and Stark has an extremely limited menu that is very overpriced for the quality and quantity of foid that is served. Their website shows pictures of flatbread pizzas but their are no pizzas on their actual menu. This is very misleading!! We ordered the spaghetti with meatballs. It was served luke warm. The sauce was mediore and the meatballs were flashed cooked from a frozen bag. I've had better frozen meatballs from.the grocery store. The other entree was the melon, tomato and burrsta cheese salad. It was interesting with nice presentation. However, the cook got carried away with the spice they sprinkle on it. Overall, other than the convenience of the restaurant, I would recommend going somewhere else. Disappointing.
