What Insiders Are Saying
One of the best options for both Indian and a fine dining experience in the city.
When you order multiple items, one rates them from best to ok. You cannot do that here. Everything is outstanding by itself.
Recently visited DC from NYC. A friend of mine and I had a really spectacular meal. My friend is vegetarian so we ordered 5 small veggie dishes and appetizers. Each dish was uniquely delicious. A truly visionary and creative chef is in the kitchen! Five stars all the way!
Food was incredible. Took a friend here for her birthday. We weren’t sure what to get because we wanted to try everything, so we went with the six-course meal. Highly recommend this place.
Best Indian food I have ever had!! Chicken Tandoori and Chicken Masala were on point!! The pistachio saffron dessert was amazing!!
We’ve heard so many great things about Rasika and we’re thrilled to get a gift card to go for our anniversary. Everything we ordered was amazing! The service is out of this world too. We got a few recommendations from friends but also asked our server for advice. We started with the fried spinach- you must get it! We ordered salmon, chicken and duck for our mains. It’s hard to say which we liked best. Everything was cooked to perfection and the spices were just right. We’ll definitely be back!
Attentive staff, excellent cuisine, many menu options for my vegetarian friend. Louder than I expected for a weekday lunch crowd, but it did not have a negative impact on our dining experience. Can’t wait to come back and try different dishes!
I felt this hotel is over rated and over priced...I have had food in other restaurants which is more better than food in here and at less price....
We had the grand course (four courses) menu, and everything was delicious. The first course was a crispy spinach dish with other veggies and yogurt which was textual and taste contrast and delicious. I believe it is one of the more popular appetizers at the restaurant. They gave up a complimentary viggie 2nd course. Then we have a scallop course. Based on the menu I thought we had to choose from one of four offerings, but they gave up small dishes of each of the four -- chicken, lamb, lentils, and veggie. The same with the dessert -- three small desserts that taste good on their own, or in combination. To have so many freshly prepared dishes brought out to your table one after another is a special evening.
Outstanding Indian cuisine. Authentic Indian food which was prepared with great care. Original recipes. Delivered with speed.
Lighting can be improved. It was difficult to read the menu properly because of the dim light.
Great attentive service. Delicious variety of food. Our group of 4 females (after a hard day of work) came here, ordered off the Theater Menu ($37pp), and enjoyed sharing our food family style. Our entrees came with two bowls of rice and a variety of bread to share. Overall very good atmosphere, very good service. I would recommend it.
The food was delicious!!!! I am North Indian and have very high expectations for tasty Indian cuisine. Having heard a lot about Rasika, I was afraid the place would not live up to its reputation. I was surprised when it surpassed my expectations.
Great food, great experience and nice atmosphere. Celebrated my wife’s birthday and she loved it. Highly recommended.
Nice ambiance. Good service! Dishes had a lot of sauce and not as much substance as would like to see.
My husband and I are now making Rasika a quarterly event. Food is outstanding and service impeccable. Black cod and palak chaat are our favorites. They even read my open table comment that it was my husbands birthday and brought us a free dessert with a candle in it :-)
I went a few years ago. It was good. A few elevated takes on Indian fare which were refreshing. Since then, I have been wanting to go back, after lots of press, their awards, and a bit of a hustle to get a reservation for Saturday night... We tried a variety of dishes which seemed to promise a bit of adventure from the usual Indian fare. They were okay. Most of the ingredients and nuances got lost. If you are looking for inspired food as entertainment, there is more to offer elsewhere. The crispy spinach is still genius though.
Great food and great service, as always.
I've eaten at the other Rasika (West End) but I liked the ambience at this one a little more.
I don't think the menus are identical, but there were some similar dishes (e.g. the spinach chaat that was like a crispy salad, similar to a kale dish at the other location). In our opinion the vegetarian items are the most exciting amazing flavors and combinations. We had the Chef's Table tasting menu (both veg. and non-veg. versions) and enjoyed the seafood items too, but the spices and flavoring of the vegetarian dishes are superior and unique. Most courses were small plates but the "main" course is rice with a variety of vegetable or meat curries. This amounted to a lot of food arriving late in the meal, tasty but not as exciting as the previous smaller items--plenty to take home, though I would definitely go back.
Rasika is my favorite restaurant in DC, and never fails to disappoint. You made my dinner with friends a special occasion, and it was such a fun and delicious time!
I hosted a wonderful business meal for 7 recently. Our waiter was absolutely the best. From the moment my guests sat down until we finished our meal, more than a couple of hours later, he was always at our table at the right time. We began by asking him what starters he would suggest and his suggestions were spot on. We had decided to eat family style on are entrees as well and he took over asking my guests simple questions and then recommending and delivering a perfect meal. What was so wonderful also in his suggestions was the quantity which was perfect - not too little and not too much. I want to thank you Rasika for a perfect event in your wonderful space and please let our waiter know that he made it so.
Amazing service and knowledgeable staff.
My cousin and I met up in DC for a weekend, and booked Rasika since we both love Indian food. We did the 6-course tasting menu, which was amazing. It was too much food, but everything was so good, we hated not to finish every bite. It ranks with my top restaurant meals ever - just awesome flavor combinations, and everything was perfectly prepared. Service was excellent, the courses came at reasonable intervals, the noise level was fine for carrying on a normal conversation.
As always, Rasika delivered a great meal. It was nice to not be rushed in order to savor the flavorful meal. Get the palak chaat.
Excellent. Spinach chaat and black cod were outstanding!
We ordered the highly recommended palak chaat for appetizer, which deserves all the accolades given by the in-numerous previous reviews. However, for main course we ordered the Parsi lamb curry, which was kind of disappointing given Rasika’s standards. The lamb was undercooked.
Excellent food, great service , would recommend it highly. It was my second experience there and it was even batter then my first
Had a great time! My friend and I got the vegetarian tasting menu to split and a few extra appetizers. We must have tried over 15 items! Such great service and awesome food. No wonder it’s so hard to get a reservation!
Had not been to Rasika for several years, so glad to know the palak chaat (crispy spinach) is as good as ever! The food and service were very good, it has maintained its very high level of quality.
This is my third time at this venue (original Penn Quarter) in addition to one visit to the West End branch. This one remains my favorite of the two. Started with the palak chat (how can you not order it every time once you've tasted it!) then on to the salmon tandori and the server suggested (as we asked about the vegetarian options) a special paneer dish that was delicious. Rice, bread basket and raita rounded out our meal. It was just the right amount for two (took home a small section of the salmon). Food was all wonderful -- fresh, flavorful, not too spicy (kind of like the bear family -- just right!). Unfortunately we ended up seated close to the front serving station and on the end of the tables. It's tough since there are also columns that make it difficult to move around. Couldn't detract though from the great dinner!
The food and service were fantastic. Must make a reservation.
So worth the drive into DC! And the crispy spinach is worth the hype! My husband and I had a date night. Lovely ambiance, wonderful service and amazing food made for a perfect evening. Highly recommend if you like Indian food! We started with the cauliflower and the crispy spinach. I enjoyed the halibut while my husband had lamb curry. For dessert, we shared the mango sutarfeni - I enjoyed but my husband likened to shredded wheat with mango mousse. The price was reasonable for two considering the level of service and quality meal.
This is our second time eating here. The cod fish was undercooked, rice tasted like dishwater, food wasn’t hot, naaan wasn’t amazing and a bowl of puffed chips was sold as pappadam. Maybe it was because we had 10:00 pm Reservations? We ate here on June 19 around 6:30 pm and ordered the same blackened cod and everything was amazing. This time it was a true disappointment. Certainly not worth the money.
Foods great. Tasty, prepared to order. Service exceptional. Don’t miss the Crispy Spinach and Black Cod!
We had dinner the night before dropping my daughter off at college. Wonderful atmosphere, server was perfect and we listened to all of his food recommendations. Food was out of this world! We will return frequently.
Our server was the best at giving us guidance for our first visit. We ordered pre theatre and made sure we had a wide sampling. The crispy spinach was outstanding. Lamb kebab was original and tasty. My tandoori salmon was awesome. Hubby's lamb Curry was great not that spicy on anything. Serving sizes we're large. Ice cream for dessert was nice finale.
Everything was just about perfect, however, when we arrived at promptly 5:00 pm, our table was not quite ready because it appeared that the wait staff was having some sort of a meeting with the managers so we had to sit at the bar for about 10 minutes. Other than that, things were superb.
Hands down the best Indian food with a modern twist. I’ve been going to this place for many years and the food is consistently wonderful! Seating is tight but cozy. The staff is pleasant and helpful except the hostesses have a bit of an attitude and not very accommodating. Overall, excellent place & I highly recommend it!
Outstanding Indian food. The halibut in green sauce was fabulous--both the fish and the sauce. It came with a side of rice. The fried spinach was amazing. The tandoori lamb chops had a less interesting flavor than we had hoped, and came with a sour tasting green sauce. Although the chops were good quality and perfectly cooked, the cost was a bit steep at 2 for $28 with no side dish. The truffle naan bread was fluffy and tasty, although with truffle oil rather than truffles. I want to go back soon.
Always a wonderful culinary experience
The food at Rasika was wonderful. I highly recommend the Ginger Limeade with any of their dishes. The service was excellent and the food was amazing.
Rasika consistently delights and leaves one wanting more. Have dined here often and Rasika never disappoints. Of note on this occasion, we were to be a party of three, one cancelled last minute, the superb hostess handled the situation with sensitivity and aplomb. A great Gem of Washington dining!
