Welcome to Pueo’s Osteria, an Italian-inspired, inviting restaurant that provides great food, prepared from scratch daily, complimented with a stocked wine list and set in a delightful osteria environment. Co-Proprietor & Chef James Babian focuses on original creative dishes, pairing the finest, authentic Italian products with select seafood, produce and meats from boutique farms (sourced locally whenever possible), including “farm-fresh” products from local farmers’ markets.
Pueo's is located at the new Waikoloa Plaza in Waikoloa Village with ample free parking and designated pick-up stalls right outside the restaurant.
The "Pueo" is a nocturnal owl indigenous to Hawaii, which symbolizes Chef's focus on serving dinner and into the evening hours. Pueo's Osteria caters to locals and visitors via sit-down, bar and take-out. My wife and I are full-time Big Island residents and frequent all of the island's fine-dining establishments; Pueo's is definitely one of these! Pueo's consistently offers some of the island's best food. The menu is Italian with dishes created using local ingredients. The results are always delicious. In addition to the normal menu, there are always tasty nightly specials to choose from. The service is always friendly and attentive. Last night, one of Pueo's new servers Adel assisted us. Adel was very knowledgeable, helpful and is a great addition to the Pueo's staff!

Wonderful dinner. We sat on the patio and saw a beautiful sunset. Our waitress, Courtney, was fantastic!

From the moment we were led to our “chef’s” table, our experience at Pueo’s Osteria was outstanding. Our server, Adele, was so knowledgeable and friendly. We shared the delicious burrata caprese salad with imported burrata from Italy, local tomatoes, pesto, and glazed pistachios. It was a delightful dish that tantalized our tastebuds! I had the gnocchi with short rib sugo. The boneless pieces of short rib melted in my mouth, so flavorful and the handmade gnocchi were fluffy soft pillows. We watched the chef expertly prepare the gnocchi through our window. He was likewise friendly and answered our questions, and even gave us the recipe for the gnocchi. My husband had the radiatore pasta with assorted local mushrooms in a pink vodka sauce that was likewise divine and flavorful. The pasta chef gave us a container of radiatore to cook at home as a present for our 40th anniversary, along with a card signed by the staff. Dessert was pistachio cannoli and chocolate hazelnut torte, both of which were so delicious and professionally prepared. This was our third visit to Pueo’s Osteria, and it has always been an outstanding and magical experience, both from a culinary and service perspective. It is hands down our favorite Italian restaurant anywhere in the U.S. Reservations highly recommended.

They relocated from a ‘bustling, cozy, trattoria type’ space, across the street to a strip mall.and it feels it. Food and services just as good.

We had a wonderful evening and Courtney was awesome! We moved to a booth which made our experience much better than the table we were first seated at. The food was amazing. Service was great and we didn't have to wait long for our food.
