Provence of Carrboro
Chef Baptist came to the United States in 2003 and has earned his accolades in the U.S. at his very successful Mediterranean restaurant “Café Zito” on the North Carolina coast, until he moved to the Triangle and started working at Provence. Working with Felix Roux, a Provence, France native, gave him the edge in classic French cuisine and that is what his menu is based on.
Enjoy a casual dining atmosphere, inside or out-, with an impressive French and international wine selection. Enjoy our great seasonal salads and entrées, and choose from our all in-house made desserts like Pain Perdu and Profiterole.
Escargots Baked in Roquefort
puff pastry, homemade vanilla ice cream and chambord ganache
Chef Baptist and Crew have never disappointed us! Exceptional as always....Don’t hold back....Go tonight while you still can!
croutons ( hows that for picky) were dangerously hard! Not just picky.
Provence is a place we always think of first when we want to celebrate a special occasion. The food is wonderful and the staff is outstanding. It never disappoints.
Outstanding meal! Everything was delicious. A special occasion.
Everything was perfect. Portions were large. Onion soup was amazing. Duck was delicious as was the tuna. Chocolate pie was wonderful. And it was nice and quiet in a beautiful setting. We just loved it.
This was our second visit to the restaurant and while the food was consistently outstanding, the service was night and day. My wife and I both have alpha-gal and the waiter was both aware of what that meant and very communicative as to the which menu items would be “safe”. He was also very attentive and engaging, recognizing that we were observing our anniversary.
The waitress this second visit seemed to have absolutely no interest in any interaction with us, appeared to be oblivious to our allergies, failed to acknowledge the event we recorded with the reservation, and disappeared for long periods of time. The hostess and other wait staff tried to pick up the slack but she was so lackadaisical that we thought she had gone home sick. I’m not sure we would have returned had this been our first experience.
A special day at a special restaurant. Our server was very helpful, patient and a delight.
Provence is the best French restaurant in the area. Its great for special occasions.
A wonderful quiet dinner on a snowy evening. We had the set menu, which was every bit as good as we expect from Province.
Great food. Wonderful ambiance, friendly staff. Good for special occaisions.
Valentines dinner celebration with other couples also. This place does not disappoint!
Great Valentine’s Day dinner. Best escargot I’ve ever had!
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Our experience on Valentine’s Day changed that. Our reservation was made over a month in advance. We arrived 5 minutes before our 6:00 pm reservation. There were 5 open tables for two. The hostess wanted to seat us at the only table directly in front of the entrance to the room, where EVERY person entering would walk past us. We politely asked for one of the other four tables. She objected, claiming we were “assigned” this table. We objected and were seated at another table. All this for poor service, and “fast food” French cuisine (over cooked scallops, mediocre sauces). Not what this restaurant is capable of doing. We will not return.
We were there for Valentine’s Day. We are fully aware that this is the not the best time to review a restaurant. However, the service was not good even considering this. The waiter, jack, kept telling everyone that he had 10 tables to work as if that was a good excuse for his poor service. For example, he did not change a fork between courses. The appetizer was scallops and the main dish was beef. So it was definitely called for. Generally he was too loud and overbearing for a small room. When we asked our other server for a to go container, it seemed like it was a big deal. On the other hand, the maitre d’ was very cordial and accommodating. The food was good and the value decent.
Overall, food was mediocre at best. Out of several entrees.
A must return. Very well prepared. The best onion soup in the state. Wines from France at excellent prices. Wonderful service.
Unfortunately the restaurant has gone down hill. It used to be a wonderful local place with solid French food. The French onion soup used to be incredible and was hardly edible. The steaks were not good and the vegetables over cooked. I had two bad experiences previously and thought I’d try one more time. Hard to believe it got worse. I’m bummed that I have to permanently cross this one off my list.
Food was very good. One of guests at our table had an allergy and waiter/chef very attentive to make sure dish selected was safe to eat. Quite an expensive place to eat however. Not sure I would go again.
I return here every few years to see if they've reduced the salt in the food. And every time I leave thinking "maybe next time they'll use less salt." There are other spices besides salt, and I'll add it if I choose to. Wait staff was friendly, but gave a odd response when questioned about the salt, blaming it on one component of the food. Do they just not realize how they oversalt everything? Shame on me for returning, or them for not owning their salt fixation? Besides that, the food was wonderfully presented, the ambiance nice for couples or groups, and the wait staff courteous and attentive.
Had a wonderful brunch at Provence, always such a nice occasion! The food was delicious and our server, Heather, was fabulous. A very nice way to spend a Sunday morning!
Always enjoy this restaurant and this time was no exception. If you have not tried the escargot with Roquefort you have missed one of life's great moments and should add it to your list of things to do ASAP.
First time visitor. Amazing food and service. Will return soon.
Food preparation excellent. Rib Eye steak tough. Smaller portion would be good.
Had a great time celebrating a birthday. Had to wait 30 minutes for our table .... saturday night was busy we will be back🙂
A lovely evening! From the crafted cocktail before our food to the wonderful service, we enjoyedour food the ambience and location. A must return for us!
I dream of their Escargot and Mussels. All the food is delish and prepared with heart and taste! They are simply the best. Enough said!
Our brunch at Provence was very nice in that the food was delicious; however, the service left a lot to be desired. To be fair, our reservation was near the end of service but it was obvious our server was ready for us to finish and leave as quickly as possible. She cleared my plate while three of our party were still eating, brought the dessert menu while two of us were still eating their main plates and, worst of all brought dessert for two of us while the other two were still eating their main plates. She also forgot to bring coffee that some of us ordered. If the restaurant doesn't want diners within half an hour of end of service, they should not accept reservations for that time. BTW, we were not the last table to leave so it wasn't like we closed the place down.
Food was good mostly. Table was small. Service was disappointing
We had an outstanding New Year's Eve dinner at Provence. The service and food were exceptional and the ambiance is Chapel Hill - relaxed and comfortable. Definitely on our top 10 list in Chapel Hill.
Lovely brunch with lots of food options and wine choices. Elegant, intimate dining room. We had a great time.
Baptiste continues to uphold the highest traditions of Provence. Naturally, the menu gradually evolves, but it remains a good mix of the old with newer creations. The Provencal preparation of the escargot is as good as ever (lighter than the traditional roquefort version), and the lobster risotto is outstanding. The wine selection is also excellent, as is the service. As in all well-run restaurants, everyone helps out, so that you are never neglected, even when your server is overtaxed. Highly recommended.
Christmas Eve, staff didn’t seem excited about working, but food of usual quality caliber. Enjoyable evening.
Only issues were the soggy crust on the duck Wellington and the underdone creme brûlée but on a busy Christmas Eve those were forgiven.
Go to Provence for outstanding food and wonderful attentive service.
Absolutely outstanding: lunch with a terrific French malbec wine. Can't be beat. Outstanding food, great service. What's not to love? My wife and I were celebrating 40 years together and Provence made it a lunch to remember. To Chef Baptiste and his crew, Happy Holidays. We'll see you in the New Year.
Provence is a lovely place. The tables are far enough apart so that conversations are not overheard, and we could hear each other at the table. The food was outstanding, the servers were very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating.
A wonderful French restaurant, perfect for special occasions.
This was one of many visits to Provence over the years. I come from Arizona to the area and never miss an opportunity to dine with them. Recently, I noticed some great new changes in the menu...Asian influence added to classic French...most escellent combination. This night the seared tuna was superb. You can never go wrong trying any seafood at Provence. Keep up the good work.
