Amazing food and wonderful staff!
Really wonderful experience. Great food ans cocktails. Next time we want to try the bacon flight.
Very disappointing. We have been going to Press for years and this visit was a disaster. We ordered an appetizer, it was served to the table next to us - the waiter never figured it out. The Risotto was not al dente - it was crunchy. The souffle was not done. Just not a good night for one of our favorite spots.
Exceptional food and service... The chargrilled steaks are phenomenal. Great lively ambiance. Save room for dessert!
Incredible wine list but food execution was poor. With the exception of a couple of great appetizers/sides (crab cake, lobster mac and cheese), the execution of the food was mediocre at best. As the restaurant is known for its steaks, it should be able to get temperature right. One friend ordered medium rare and received a VERY rare steak (raw in the center). Another ordered a medium steak and it came well-done and dry. He sent it back and received a medium-rare to rare steak. Was encouraged to order my salmon medium rare (which I prefer) and received a completely cooked through piece of fish. Took us 3.5 hours to dine because the waiter disappeared often. For a restaurant at this price-point and with this reputation, I expected a lot more.
Good steak house option. Not many options for the vegetarian or vegan.
We had visited Press two years ago to celebrate a birthday and loved it. Visiting again to celebrate another birthday was very disappointing. Charles, our server, was exceptional. The food, however, not so much. The salmon was tasteless, the duck sinewy and tough to chew. The lamb, thankfully, was delicious. We decided after this experience to not visit again. There are too many other restaurants in the Napa Valley where great food and service are the norm.
We make sure to return to Press ever time we are in the Napa area - never disappoints.
Dined at Press after hearing a lot of mostly good things about it. It was a nice evening. Tables pretty close together. Nice ambiance. Beautiful room - windows, lights, great looking bar. Were greeted at our table as soon as we sat down, which was nice. From then on out the service was excellent. Friendly. Helpful. The short end of the dining experience was the food, sadly. We shared a huge and very nice wedge. Could really have been a full meal. Sort of ordinary offering of breads. Should have been much better given all the good bread in the Bay Area! Ordered sides of asparagus (great!) and mushrooms (very mediocre). One of us had the prime Ribeye, 14 ounces. Sad to say, this was a tough and in parts gristley piece of meat. Should have melted in the mouth. Very disappointing. Truthfully, the prime ribeyes at Costco are far superior. The other entrée was a chopped sirloin steak, smothered in mushrooms and onions. The veggie part was good, the meat pretty ordinary. We expected a nice, crispy outside with a beautiful med-rare interior. Was overall a pretty mushy offering. Really kind of like a meat loaf! Ugh. We passed on dessert. Pricy meal, but not unexpectedly high. Doubt we'd go back.
I don’t even know what to say. Been here many times. Always been a spectacular meal. On this occasion had a very attentive and knowledgeable waiter. But, the kitchen was so far off their game it was simply shocking. Clearly whoever was at the grill station needs significant re-training on what steak temperatures are, and how to measure and achieve them. After multiple tries, still a fail. I’m so sad. While I appreciate the comp’ed meal, what I really wanted was the meal I ordered, and have always gotten. Doubt I’ll even try again. It was just too upsetting.
Everything was divine from the moment we walked in the door. We have been there several times and it’s been delicious every time. There is a hidden gem of an app that’s not on the menu: bacon! Different flavors in this really cool hanging device and you use scissors to cut off the amount you want.
Really good pineapple mule hit the spot after a long day of wine tasting. I got the prime rib that’s a Wednesday special. Just perfect. Husband got the strip. We loved everything.
Lugar perfecto para una linda cena...!
Service was great. But the food is WAY overpriced. $60+ filet. You expect the best cut of meat for that price, but it was not even close. All of the food was over priced. They are ripping off vacationers to the area.
To be fair, we did not have steak, which is the specialty at Press, but based on their prices and reputation, we were disappointed in the fish, and the improvised vegetarian pasta. The peas in the pasta were tough and the tomato sauce was nothing special.
The gin and house made tonic was great, and the flourless chocolate cake is and a moist and absolutely delicious share size that is not to be missed.
Service was average, food way over priced, wine list extensive but majority $300+and steaks were difficult to eat. Must like cherrywood smoke and we didn’t. Lobster Mac and cheese fishy and spinach too salty. All of which was difficult to eat and so half our food was uneaten. Food serve didn’t even ask why half our food was left over. Probably won’t be going back.
This restaurant was recommended to me and I a made a reservation for my friend's 55th Birthday. It is a beautiful restaurant. However, the server was not attentive, the lobster mac and cheese was delicious but other than that I was not impressed. I asked for my steak to be prepared medium well and it was basically burnt. Needless to say I will not be back.
Food was excellent, as was the service. All around great!
Vast wine list. Wine sommelier was helpful in choosing a nice bottle. Onion rings were fantastic. Peach salad we chose was not very good. Described a peach vinaigrette with stone fruit; it had a creamy dressing with no stone fruit or peach. Steaks were good. We prefer steaks served au jus instead of butter, but Press's au jus was just melted fat. Ice cream and sorbet offerings were very good, and their decaf coffee was absolutely excellent.
My third visit to Press and I fall in love each time. Excellent steaks!
My husbands hanger steak was burnt to a crisp and totally inedible! It tasted like a piece of charcoal. This restaurant totally lacks ambience. You feel like you’re in a cavernous warehouse. I would never recommend Press to anyone!
Beautiful restaurant, especially after sunset, and excellent service. We had the ribeye for two, the bacon lobster Mac and cheese, and heirloom tomato salads. Recommend all.
I visited Napa earlier this month with my wife and daughter. Being steakhouse fans we knew we had to visit Press. It's exactly what you would expect from a fine steakhouse. The steaks are big, tasty and expensive. The wine list is obviously extensive. My wife had the scallops, and they were fantastic(perfectly seared and a beautiful presentation). I recommend getting the bacon tasting- we skipped it but wish that we hadn't. Reservations for prime times are tough so call ahead with as much notice as possible. We made reservations about 4 days in advance and had to take the 545 reservation. I definitely recommend a visit to Press.
We waited for service for wine for nearly 30 minutes and salad came out tasting like bacon (all veggie salad). Overall definitely not great service.
Great ambience, fabulous food! Our party of 6 showed up 40 minutes early on a Saturday night and figured we'd need to hang out at the bar until our table was ready (that's not a bad thing :) ). To our great surprise and delight, we were seated right away at a round table (always a plus not to have to crane your next too far left or right when you're a party at an oblong table!) in a great location. Our server was very attendant to our needs - the only thing he missed was offering to decant our two bottles of rather ex-expensive wine. The food was the star here, though...great cuts of aged meat grilled perfectly for our individual tastes. My 14 oz. aged ribeye almost melted in my mouth, and the sides (asparagus, pureed potatoes, lobster bacon mac & cheese) were phenomenal. After dinner we retired to a couple of couches surrounding a firepit out back and enjoyed after dinner cocktails. A prefect evening for friends after a long day of wine tasting! Most highly recommended.
The food is great, and as long as you don’t mind a noisy environment, it’s fun. Their wine list is quite impressive and they are proud of it, but I found most of it extremely over-priced.
Friendly, unpretentious and fantastic ! The staff are so wonderful, and the food is exceptional in an unfussy way. 10K wine list is casually presented, something for everyone. In house made tonic water and proprietary gin was out of this world. But again it is all about the people... Very memorable evening. Can't wait to go back.
Arugula was tough and yellow to green the fruit on side was soft to mushy. Shrimp were mediocre at best.
Steak and artichoke tasted like the gas grill.
Service was top notch.
The place has slipped- food, service, cleanliness, presentation and attitude are not what they were. As a local I can no longer in good conscience unreservedly recommend it
We came to Press while we were staying in the Napa Valley for a few days on our 'mini-moon'. The service, food, and wine were absolutely amazing - so amazing they let us stay there for 3+ hours enjoying ourselves. As we were told some of the portions were pretty generous for 2 people, we ended up making our own seafood platter with the lobster + prawn cocktails and a few oysters. We tried the bacon appetizer with one piece of the candied bacon (SO good). The wine list was extensive and full of 10000+ Napa Valley treasures. The Sommelier was so generous of her time that evening, putting together a wonderful selection of wines to choose from based on my husband and my taste preferences. We selected a 1996 Robert Mondavi Cabernet which was such a treat - I'd gladly drink this wine over and over again. In lieu of totally over ordering, we shared the filet mignon with a side of the grilled jalapeños, grilled artichoke, and the most generous portion of onion rings. A summer tarte with an extra cookie and scoop of their house made ice cream helped end the meal. We'll definitely be back.
Unfortunately the food did not live up to the promise of the beautiful, spacious dining room and lovely outdoor space. The chicken for two, at $57, was just a boring and not particularly lovely chicken, chopped and placed on a plate without even a sprig of parsley to adorn the presentation. It was sad looking. The meat was tender, but the sauce, served on the side, was bland. My companion's rib eye was disappointing, too--low on flavor, as if perhaps it had sat in the fridge for a week prior to being oven-cooked. It lacked the lovely juicy tastes one would expect from fresh grilled meat. It was just ho-hum. Although I loved the environment, I'm not likely to go back.
Overall, staff was helpful and ambiance was nice. The food was very good, but we weren't blown away.
Sommelier, as always, was fantastic. Food was great.
Service was excellent! The best ever. The food was phenomenal.
Loretta our server was wonderful and made the dinner even better. The manager too was very accommodating and eager to please. We look forward to returning next year.
This is our SPOT for the 4th of July!’
The food is fantastically prepared. The chef and the staff do not ever disappoint!
The waitstaff are on top about the menu and the sommeliers are very knowledgeable about every wine on their extensive lists as Wells as being able to compare wines they don’t featured with those they do.
Overall PRESS is a wonderful place to have a great dinner in the valley.
Thank you to the entire team!! My Dad's 81st Birthday was absolutely lovely!! Nicole , the servers even the bartender came by as my dad was so impressed with his gin cocktail (made with the house gin).
Definitely on my personal list as well as the list I keep for recommending to my guests at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars!
Everything was great. We will certainly be back and highly recommend visiting. If you love flourless chocolate cake, save room for desert!
We went to Press for our anniversary dinner and we were very imPRESSed with their food, ambience and service. Great steaks and seafood. Great dessert menu - to coconut sorbet is fantastic. They have a chocolate souffle for 2. Highly recommend this eatery in St. Helena.
Great food and atmosphere! Fantastic spot for nice dinner in Napa!
It was amazing! Highly recommend this place to anyone- loved every minute and the staff and service were wonderful! Thank you PRESS for an unforgettable dinner anniversary!
We will definitely be back!
