Gave hostess my dietary restrictions and asked if they accommodate. She checked with chefs and emailed back twice. She greeted us and reassured they were ready and made specific suggestions. THAT is superb customer service.
Food was amazing, delicious, creative and fairly prices. Service on same ultra level - knowledgeable, friendly, paced meal well.
Cocktails delicious. Eggplant fries with drinks was perfect, unusual and, of course surprisingly delicious and not greasy.
If you want an unpretentious superb meal, this place must be on your list. Bought gift cards for a couple of local friends as Christmas gifts.
We are so grateful for how Poppy remains good year in year out. The formula -- basically, an array of great, varied flavors in small dishes adding up to a thoroughly satisfying meal -- doesn't get old. Our servers conveyed enthusiasm for the cuisine they were serving, though, unlike on previous visits, we had to remind our server to tell us what was in all the little plates. (This was a busy Tuesday night, when they have the $35 dinner for two.) In short, our message to Poppy is "Keep up the good work, as you have now for so many years!"
The entire crew was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and overall experience we had at Poppy. Highly recommend doing a shared meal experience with 4-8 people in order to enjoy more of the menu.
Went for my wife’s birthday, had the thali and also the sturgeon with matsutake mushrooms. Everything was so deliscious! And beautiful! Really. Excellent.
Tasty meal marred by inattentive service and multiple billing mistakes.
Overall, Poppy was very good for the interesting food and excellent service. Unfortunately I was not happy with the automatic 20% service charge on the bill. This was for only two people. Due to this unexpected mandatory charge I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
Really interesting variety of flavors, beautifully presented. I love this spot.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants and has never disappointed . Great creative food!
Poppy is having Thali Tuesdays, where you can get a thali for two and a bottle of wine for $35. It's a fabulous deal, and the same, wonderful creative food they always serve. The food is good, with interesting spicing.
We took some special friends who were visiting from the east coast for a wonderful early dinner after a Sunday matinee at ACT. We had a great time! We started with several things from the small plates. The Eggplant fires are fabulous! Two of us ordered from the mains, one had a tali, and another more small plates. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and good conversation. The service was attentive but not overly so. Just the kind of experience we were looking for.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, Poppy never fails!! I continue to expose family, friends and out of state guests to Poppy's because I know every dining experience will be just as fabulous as the prior one. Thanks Poppy for sharing a wonderful space and food that delights one meal after another.
OMG, the food here is SO good. Our 11 yo daughter, who is a pretty adventurous eater, loved it so much she wanted to return the next night. Everything was delicious. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Was able to park in the lot directly behind the restaurant. A perfect experience!
Now that we have eaten in several restaurants in Seattle, we see the Poppy is significantly overpriced. The food was tasty but the >$30 price for tiny portions was disappointing. We will not return.
Great Birthday Dinner- lots to choose from and beautifully presented
This is an excellent restaurant. The value is good, even if you are not doing Thali Tuesday. food is very original, and not "too precious." You come out feeling satisfied and that you have experienced something that you cannot easily prepare at home even if you are a good chef. Highly recommended.
Every time I come here, I am so blown away by the quality of the food, the variety and the creativity are astounding. The service is consistently wonderful, the staff know when to drop by the table and check in, and get you out the door and on your way when you are ready to do so.
I really appreciated their willingness to work with my food allergies and how easy going they were about it (honestly I haven't had a restaurant be this great about it before). It was a relaxing nite out with really good food. We definitely plan on going back and would recommend it.
We were completely wowed by Poppy! Completely! The pork thali was populated by several memorable components -- the cinnamon spiced pork, the incredibly intensely flavored blackeyed peas, the quince and apple salad, the grilled romesco, the apple infused raita, etc. It is such a brilliant dish overall that you "must" try it. The dosa with the chutneys was also remarkable in both flavor and presentation. This is definitely NOT Indian food, but the chef has creatively adapted several Indian spices and concepts into the menu and used them to create exciting and unique food. Compelling!
Great food! But the service was poor which especially annoying when there is mandatory 20% service charge. I love the food but I’ll not be back due to this mandatory service charge.
Terrible service! Waited 15 minutes plus then had to ASK TWICE for someone to take even a drink order. Got drinks 26 minutes after arriving. Must have been some confusion with server sections? Food good but really expensive, nice view of the gas station next door. Disappointing especially because we were excited to bring a friend from out of town. Don’t recommend, we won’t go back.
Amazing indian fusion restaurant. What a great discovery
We arrived at 6:00 with few other patrons in evidence. Ordered 2 meals and 2 appetizers. We waited an hour before the 2 meals arrived and were told it was because the "duck takes 20 minutes" If they had told us this at the outset we would have ordered something else! Besides which, it was well beyond 20 minutes before the food graced our table. We were late to our next engagement because of this.
Not happy with bill - excessive charges and they added in a 20% service charge and asked for an additional tip. So value for cost is very low. Would not go again.
Went for Restaurant Week where they showcased their regular menu. Everything was wonderful. My take is that it had a Northwest/Indian fusion thing going on, but what do I know?
Sad excuse for restaurant week. Bland food. Decent service with a 20% service charge for 2 people!! They also forgot the desert of the table next to me and we were seated after! It’s too bad, I was really excited to try this place. Not likely to come back. ✌️
Everything was amazing. Flavorful dishes. Our service at the table was excellent, the bar area had an issue, maybe short staffed? It caused a slight hiccup in our evening. Otherwise great
Excellent pet usual. What a place. Top notch everything all the time.
I've eaten here several times and each time come out thinking that this is one of the best restaurants in Seattle. A neighborhood gem, for sure.
Always love the food -- so creative, so full of unique flavors, so magical. Wish service was a bit better.
I loved, loved, LOVED Poppy my first time I was there for my birthday. The food and service was amazing!!! The service the first time was attentive but delicately respectful of our time and space. We failed to remember that the 20% tip was included and she graciously reminded us, so we then tipped an additional 10%.
But the second time I took my nephew who was visiting from the east coast to Poppy, well, it was very different. The food was still wonderful, but I cannot deny the service this last visit definitely made me wonder about the automatic 20% tip. It was as if he knew he would make good money off us no matter what. Or perhaps he was just inept. IDK. We sat at the bar and the service was slow at best. Long periods of time passed between check-ins. We waited for everything; water, to order, the food to arrive, even the the check. You get the idea.
I'm not sure what to do. I will probably try once again because the food is just to die for and the experiences were just so different, but I def won't sit in the bar.
A unique gem of a restaurant in a cool neighborhood. Great creative food with great service. One of my favorites.
Overall was okay, the taste was not very surprising and portion for restaurant week was not much, wasn’t really full.
One of the top 10 meals I have ever had in my life. So flavorful and unique. Attentive service. Great for dietary needs/restrictions.
Two years running this is the best restaurant week meal we experience along with very good service! This is a really good restaurant!
There was an apparent staffing problem, no show or something. I ordered a cocktail, was served bottle of wine and first course, still no cocktail. Mentioned to server, still no cocktail. went up to bar and cancelled cocktail, no biggie, not mad but obviously super short-handed. people we did have contact with very nice. loved my thali dinner and my friend liked hers also. Super creative food and we will be back. a ferry ride and an uber to get there from the kitsap peninsula so must be worth the extra effort. it is.
Friendly, informed servers; unique, beautifully prepared food — it’s all here. You’re made to feel welcome by all, seated and attended to quickly, and offered water and libations. Cocktails are as adventuresome and delicious as the menu. The highlight is the daily thali offering. With its bright array of small dishes, the thali gives you a chance to sample a carefully curated mix of flavors, textures and temperatures (hot-cool, spicy-soothing). The “main event” in my thali recently was pork shoulder cooked to tender perfection. A small salad featuring slivers of fennel and tart apple; bright florets of romanesco; Smokey-sultry beans and little pickled condiments were just a few of the complementary dishes that worked together to make a yummy whole.
I’d return again and again just to see what might show up next on these special trays of goodness.
Situated on a block known for great food, Poppy sets itself apart by its quirky, backyard style and a clever balance of local/international cuisines. Highly recommend the eggplant fries (crisp-fried with honey) and the thali (a sort of chef's choice entree with many small dishes). Overall, excellent flavors and a tasteful execution.
I LOVED the food, but the service was awful! The waitress was very rude and entitled. She never checked on us once, I was unable to order a second drink, my water was never refilled and was empty the whole time, food was not cleared and she was rude to us the entire time. They add an automatic 20% and it was clear she didn’t care. I normally tip 20% but I would have subtracted a tip out if I could due to her absolute horrible service.
Everything was unique and delicious. A special place.
Restaurant Week Gem!!! The Pork Shoulder w/ Vanilla and Thyme was off-the-hook!
