The service was quite poor and the food was disappointing. We found out afterward there was an ownership change. The service and food did not compare with that under the previous ownership.
This local spot is wonderful. We live close so it’s perfect and the French cuisine is excellent.
Second time to Plan B. The first visit exceeded expectations while this second visit left some disappointment. Although the restaurant was 1/3rd full it took quite some time for the appetizers t come out and then about an hour for the main course to arrive. We ordered a salad with the meal and it was forgotten. The food was tasteful and the ambiance was nice.
nice place and atmosphere food quality very good overall an enjoyable experience
I would eat here every night and be a happy camper. Good food and wine, great service, comfortable and healthy-ish in a foodie way. Loved it.
Always excellent. My hubby had the rabbit and I loved the frisse salad. The owner/chef is the best!! The staff are wonderful too.
We've eaten at the Plan B in mid-town Sacramento and wanted to try this location. Very thrilled with our dinner and the attention of the waitstaff. Not speedy but we weren't in a rush. It was a Sunday night and pretty crowded. Seems they have a regular customer set - and we can see why. Wait staff suggested a pairing of wine with my main course and appetizer that was perfect. I ordered the halibut with mango salsa. Cooked perfectly and the salsa was a great addition. Their gazpacho was the best I've ever tasted - great blend of spice, tangy and sweet. We'll definitely be back.
This one of our favorite restaurants. however, the last visit, the kitchen was off. Took extremely long for entrees to come out and my dinner was 10-15 minutes later then the other 3. My swordfish was undercooked and a companions pasta did not taste very good.
Waiter asked if he could bring something else for her, and she ordered the rib eye skewer appetizer, when bill came we were charged for that AND her entrée which she did not eat much of. Probably shouldn't have assumed it would be comped.
Waiter did comp the corkage for the late arrival of my entrée.
Food was as good as usual. Service was SLOW. Our reservation was at 6:30pm, we were promptly seated and then the wait. We did not get out of the restaurant until 8:30. They need more servers, two people are not enough.
Had the swordfish with mango salsa, fish grilled perfectly and not overcooked. Apple brie tartelette was pretty incredible. I'll go back.
The waiter had to be called to our table before we could get him to take our order. He apologized, saying that he didn't know we wanted to order, and I pointed out that it would be helpful if he turned around and looked at the patrons occasionally. The food, especially the fries were expremely salty and over-spiced.
Excellent food, professional service, pleasant environment
Amazing food, ambiance, staff, owner. Highly recommend! You
Excellent second time I have eaten there and I will go again
Service was great, but the food was at best mediocre. We had the calamari as appetizer, but it was under cooked. We then had the veal and salmon. The meat in the veal was too chewy and the batter was too soggy from the sauce, the salmon was over cooked and way too salty. We then had the cream brûlée, where the crust was way too thick and over burned. The restaurant is way too overpriced for the quality that it delivers.
I like the fact that this is a neighborhood restaurant that is mostly quiet (though a lot of tables were empty our night) with an adventurous menu and excellent service. Ambience also nice. It is clear the restaurant tries hard (chef came to table to ask how everything was.) I would like it to succeed. However, 2 out of 3 entrees were disappointing (my veal was breaded and bland and linguini with clam sauce was unexpectedly spicy.) For the price paid, the food should be better. Appetizers and dessert were excellent. We will go again and hope for the best.
Great local restaurant to sit back, relax and have a great meal, yummy dessert and good wine selection. Mussels are my favorite! We have great wait staff every time and the owner tends to stop by and check on your meal and experience. Definitely go - either for just a good meal or a special occasion!
Went here for DIL's birthday dinner, it was FAB! Everything we ate was fresh, delicious, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. I'd had mussels years ago and didn't care for them, haven't eaten them again until this night, they were amazing, my favorite were in a coconut milk/chile/lime broth. YUM! service was also great-warm, friendly & informative. We'll be back! (probably for another special occasion, is a bit pricy)
The service, cuisine and atmosphere was phenomenal.
Not so great on Thursday night. Our reservation got lost although we were seated promptly, bigger problem was the food was tepid at best. All five meals , they were busy so we’d waited rather longer than usual and were too hungry to have them remade. The calamari and soup were delicious but the poached egg was hard. Off night?
We regularly enjoy Plan B, because of the consistent excellence of the food and the service. My wife’s opakapaka was cooked perfectly (her comment) and my langoustine fettuccine with morel and shiitake mushrooms and ramp were also one of the specials, and one I’d happily order again.
Delicious food and wonderful service! We had a great experience here.
Three out of four of us had the styx (smaller plates of beef or shrimp) which were very good and a nice alternative to a heavy entree portion, accompanied by one of their delicious salads and an order of pommes frites for the table. That order turned into 3 orders. They are heavenly! Probably among the best anywhere. Our fourth had the salmon entree , which she loved. We each had a cocktail and wine with dinner. We also split two excellent desserts. All very nice. The only two downsides, which has always been the case with Plan B is the pricing (~$75 per) and the noise. Overall, we were very satisfied and would highly recommend it with those 2 caveats. I used to be a regular but hadn't been there for a while. Happy to see that it was busy, and still offering great food. Will definitely start going back with more regularity.
This is a favorite when we want great French cuisine.
Disappointing. will not go back. My sister-in-law ordered one of the specials-- filet mignon. It was tough and overdone. My salmon was ok but not great. The server did not know what vegetables would be served and all of his guesses were wrong. He was a bit pretentious but did not have the facts. French like supposedly but a very distant cousin I would say. Save your coin. There are better places.
This was our first time at Plan B. Overall, I thought it was okay, but not great. First, when you walk into the restaurant there is no real entrance area or podium to check in or anyone to greet you. So we just stood there and a very nice waiter came over to us right away. But if it was busy, you are standing right next to tables of customers and I wouldn't think it would be all that great to be sitting and dining right there. We had the salmon and the prawns. The salmon was delicious and cooked really well. The prawns were good, but they were served with a scoop of mashed potatoes (in the shape of the scoop). I thought that was really odd for a nice restaurant - seemed like a cafeteria. I also thought mashed potatoes were a little strange to serve with prawns - would have thought a polenta or root puree would have gone better. But I guess the starch and vegetables were the same for every entree. The waiter was very friendly, but it was just two waiters doing everything on a Saturday evening. He greeted us, sat us, waited on us and bartended. I only saw him and one other waiter in the entire restaurant which seemed very strange to me. Because we live in the neighborhood and it's an easy restaurant to go to on a whim, we will probably try it again, but overall, I was underwhelmed. I'm hoping it was just an off night.....we'll see.
Lovely evening as usual ... With new host the greeting as you arrive is so casual you wonder if they care, but the wait-staff proves they do.
Attentive staff, wonderful cocktails, tasty appetizers, incredible main courses and luscious desserts. A perfect dining experience for our [adult] daughter's birthday.
The food was very good. Service was also good. The braised short ribs were outstanding. The dining room is not very big. I definitely recommend making reservations.
Food very good and lovely setting. Service? Inattentive. We would have enjoyed the experience so much more if we were attended to. We had to ask for everything: water? where was the wine? Where was our main course and why was it taking so long and Can we see a dessert menu? A tasty but exhausting experience.
We were there on a Tuesday, which is a slower, less busy night for this restaurant but they didn't hurry us out when we were the last table left. The food is superb, with an emphasis on French cuisine. If you like mussels, they offer them six different ways, all delicious. My friend and I shared a variety of small dishes, and they were fantastic — a tomato and goat cheese tartlette; a frisee salad with a light creamy dressing and bacon bits, topped with a poached egg in puff pastry; and mussels with celery, leeks and pancetta. The wine pour was generous as well. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We're going back soon.
Had my birthday celebration here and enjoyed every moment. It was a lovely night for me, service was excellent. Food is great. The attention we received from the staff was extraordinary. We had waited a little as my party missed their exit but we never felt rushed. This restaurant is very accommodating to my brother who had limited food choices due to his health condition and recent surgery. The options were laid out to him in a very caring and respectful way. It was so endearing to see service like that. What can a satisfied consumer do to express the appreciation for making that night more special ? Good words , recommendations, generous tip, being loyal customer and YELP! Thank you, plan B!
They make sure everyone feels like friends and family from the minute you arrive to the time they say goodbye.
Excellent service and cool sophisticated atmosphere.
I payed cash and tipped over 20%. The owner should let his staff do their jobs instead of standing there watching the whole time. I was followed out my car to have the owner knocking on my window as I am about to pull out of the restaurant. The owner kept asking me for the signed receipt when I payed cash... let your waiter do their job. It was really awkward and I sat in the parking lot explaining it to him that I payed cash. As far as the ambiance, I had a reservation at 5 and waited for them to open. Upon coming in, the smell was not appealing. Smelled like old sponges were used to wipe down the tables. I would recommend making reservations in the evening and paying with a card. ..
One of our favorite restaurants in the Sacramento area, we were not disappointed in a repeat visit. We avoided the Valentine's Day rush and booked a table on the 15th of February. The greeting we received, the sumptuous food (I had the outstanding halibut, my wife had the delicious duck breast), the wine list, and ambience were all delightful. We enjoy this restaurant because it is not too large, the noise level is low enough that we can enjoy conversations with each other, the quality of food, and the general atmosphere. Parking is never a problem.
I brought my daughter in for a special Valentine's Day 4 course meal dinner. We had to wait 15-20 mins after we finished each course. We only ate 3 courses at the restaurant, and I had to wave down the bartender to get another glass of wine. We were both nodding off at the end of the night because we were so sleepy after the dinner course that we had to leave before we could eat out prepaid dessert. To top it off, our server included a 20% gratuity to my bill, when he ignored us the bulk of our meal. I could have got a lot more for $250 else where.
New ownership and lots of polishing is needed. At present, overpriced, poor quality control, soiled flatware. A disappointing Valentines dinner.
Valentine's day menu was ok. Small portions. Everything else was ok. Didn't feel like fine dining, but it was trying to. Atrocious name (plan b) everyone on my Facebook who saw my post commented the name was horrible.
Service was poor and we waited over one hour for entrees; very crowded. We had a reservation but they seemed not to notice.felt they should have comped our dessert but they didn’t . It was an anniversary, pre valentine dinner noted on our reservation but no acknowledgement.
Food was not up to par either.
