Always look forward to dining at Plan b, and send all my friends there too.
Having lived in this area for close to 30 years, I've always wanted to find a local spot that had a great atmosphere, excellent food, great service and reasonably priced. This was my 3rd or 4th visit and after my wife and son and myself had a celebratory dinner, the light went off and we all said it was a great experience and planned to return soon again. This just might become our "go to" Carmichael restaurant.
Seafood risotto was excellent. My wife ordered a ribeye that was fantastic. The wine list was great. Oysters were great. A bit pricey to go to all the time, but not over the top. Definitely worth it for special occasions.
The overall experience was not worth the financial impact.
Excellent scallops and risotto for dinner, it was their special.
We always enjoy Plan B. It’s a warm space that is relaxing and easy going. The kitchen was a little slow, and took a while to get our drinks. The soup came out cold, but they promptly replaced it and the French onion soup is very good. My filet was nice. The cut itself wasn’t the best (a bit of gristle) but cooked nicely and the mushroom sauce was excellent. Caesar salad is a great starter at Plan B.
We expected to be greeted by the hostess but there was none. We thought we walked into the wrong door so we walked to the back & ran into one of the waitresses, she sat us. Seats were close & comfortable. Surprised to see the specials on a chalkboard. Food was ok.
The food at Plan B is exceptional. While the service has declined slightly since the early days of its establishment, it is still an elegant neighborhood bistro. It used to be a very personal experience. Not so much now, but one of Sacramento's hidden gastronomic gems.
I've been a patron for several years but hadn't been for a while. I always appreciated the attention to detail and the balanced touch applied to the food offerings. They have the best salads and mussels in town, but on this last visit the salads were over-dressed, the mussels weren't fresh and the pom fries, that are usually great, were so salty they were inedible. Maybe it was my mistake for going on a Sunday night.
Not to be entirely negative, the service was good and the French wines were really good.
If I give them another try, it won't be on a Sunday night.
I was traveling through Sacramento and the great reviews of plan B on Open Table convinced me to give it a try. I was not disappointed. It was fabulous. The service was terrific, very good wines by the glass, and the food was fantastic. I started with the mussels in coconut milk sauce - superb. For my main course I had the black board special rack of lamb. Perfectly cooked medium rare. The mint oil had just the right hint of mint - not overpowering. The meal was perfectly timed - not rushed or slow. I highly recommend!!!
Plan B has been a neighborhood favorite for many years. And now with Mimi, greatest hostess ever, back at the helm, it's got all the ingredients - nightly specials reflecting what's good in California with a wine list to match.
Had a wonderful dining experience. Food was amazing and the service was fantastic.
Good French style food, a smallish cozy place, attentive service, and good pricing. When we had lunch, it was busy, so reservations might be prudent.
WE WERE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED TO FIND THIS DELICIOUS RESTAURANT HIDDEN IN A SMALL SHOPPING CENTER. THE SEATING WAS COMFORTABLE THOUGH NOT FRENCHY TO MATCH THE FOOD. I TRIED A PASTA SPECIAL AND LICKED MY PLATE. THE SAUSE WAS WONDERFUL AND THE LANGUSTINA AND ASPARGAS WERE GENEROUSLY SERVED. OUR WAITER WAS HELPFUL WITHOUT BEING PUSHY. AND THE MUSSELS AS AN APPETIZER WAS A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO THE REST OF THE DINNER. I WILL RETURN AND TRY EACH WAY THEY PRESENT THE MUSSELS.
I was so disappointed to find that the portion size of the mussels has been cut in half! Now, instead of it being an entree size it is an appetizer size.
The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They frequently asked how we were doing but were not overbearing. We felt genuinely welcome and not in a "we just want your money" way. The appetizers we had were excellent as were our main course meals. Fantastic food in an pleasant atmosphere!
We were going to the Kings/Lakers game after dinner so we had our "game" gear on. I asked if they had a dress code there and was told that if I had clothes on I comply with the dress code. Again friendly staff with a sense of humor.
Food is delicious! Subdued lighting is perfect! And customer service and attention to detail by Rodney was superb!
Can’t beat the quality , delightful staff and owner
Menu had great options. Food was amazing as usual. Service was subpar. Had to wait over 10 mins for server to come back multiple times. Unexcusable
Great in all ways. Recommend tomato tartlette, lamb, fillet, mussels, creme brûlée.
The server, Bryan, was the best. He knew each dish, what was in it, and recommended some. The wine was superb. The food is very delicious.
The service was quite poor and the food was disappointing. We found out afterward there was an ownership change. The service and food did not compare with that under the previous ownership.
This local spot is wonderful. We live close so it’s perfect and the French cuisine is excellent.
Second time to Plan B. The first visit exceeded expectations while this second visit left some disappointment. Although the restaurant was 1/3rd full it took quite some time for the appetizers t come out and then about an hour for the main course to arrive. We ordered a salad with the meal and it was forgotten. The food was tasteful and the ambiance was nice.
nice place and atmosphere food quality very good overall an enjoyable experience
I would eat here every night and be a happy camper. Good food and wine, great service, comfortable and healthy-ish in a foodie way. Loved it.
Always excellent. My hubby had the rabbit and I loved the frisse salad. The owner/chef is the best!! The staff are wonderful too.
We've eaten at the Plan B in mid-town Sacramento and wanted to try this location. Very thrilled with our dinner and the attention of the waitstaff. Not speedy but we weren't in a rush. It was a Sunday night and pretty crowded. Seems they have a regular customer set - and we can see why. Wait staff suggested a pairing of wine with my main course and appetizer that was perfect. I ordered the halibut with mango salsa. Cooked perfectly and the salsa was a great addition. Their gazpacho was the best I've ever tasted - great blend of spice, tangy and sweet. We'll definitely be back.
This one of our favorite restaurants. however, the last visit, the kitchen was off. Took extremely long for entrees to come out and my dinner was 10-15 minutes later then the other 3. My swordfish was undercooked and a companions pasta did not taste very good.
Waiter asked if he could bring something else for her, and she ordered the rib eye skewer appetizer, when bill came we were charged for that AND her entrée which she did not eat much of. Probably shouldn't have assumed it would be comped.
Waiter did comp the corkage for the late arrival of my entrée.
Food was as good as usual. Service was SLOW. Our reservation was at 6:30pm, we were promptly seated and then the wait. We did not get out of the restaurant until 8:30. They need more servers, two people are not enough.
Had the swordfish with mango salsa, fish grilled perfectly and not overcooked. Apple brie tartelette was pretty incredible. I'll go back.
The waiter had to be called to our table before we could get him to take our order. He apologized, saying that he didn't know we wanted to order, and I pointed out that it would be helpful if he turned around and looked at the patrons occasionally. The food, especially the fries were expremely salty and over-spiced.
Excellent food, professional service, pleasant environment
Amazing food, ambiance, staff, owner. Highly recommend! You
Excellent second time I have eaten there and I will go again
Service was great, but the food was at best mediocre. We had the calamari as appetizer, but it was under cooked. We then had the veal and salmon. The meat in the veal was too chewy and the batter was too soggy from the sauce, the salmon was over cooked and way too salty. We then had the cream brûlée, where the crust was way too thick and over burned. The restaurant is way too overpriced for the quality that it delivers.
I like the fact that this is a neighborhood restaurant that is mostly quiet (though a lot of tables were empty our night) with an adventurous menu and excellent service. Ambience also nice. It is clear the restaurant tries hard (chef came to table to ask how everything was.) I would like it to succeed. However, 2 out of 3 entrees were disappointing (my veal was breaded and bland and linguini with clam sauce was unexpectedly spicy.) For the price paid, the food should be better. Appetizers and dessert were excellent. We will go again and hope for the best.
Great local restaurant to sit back, relax and have a great meal, yummy dessert and good wine selection. Mussels are my favorite! We have great wait staff every time and the owner tends to stop by and check on your meal and experience. Definitely go - either for just a good meal or a special occasion!
Went here for DIL's birthday dinner, it was FAB! Everything we ate was fresh, delicious, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. I'd had mussels years ago and didn't care for them, haven't eaten them again until this night, they were amazing, my favorite were in a coconut milk/chile/lime broth. YUM! service was also great-warm, friendly & informative. We'll be back! (probably for another special occasion, is a bit pricy)
The service, cuisine and atmosphere was phenomenal.
