   My wife had the Branzino which was not very seasoned and steamed. I ordered the Spiedino Don Ciccio which was unusual but forgettable. Spanish Octopus was outstanding. Barolo wine was great. Very good wine list.

   We were very pleased with our dinner and overall experience at Pepe Niro. From appetizers to desserts and coffee, it was all excellent. We will definitely be coming back.

   Great wine selection and great service. We were in a booth in the bar area and it was very active but not too loud. The owner was very gracious and talked to us about Italy and where we should visit when we go. Very informative and very personable all around. Great spot and worth the price!

    We went there because it was one of the few that carried over their menu from Restaurant Week. The Steak tartare was fabulous! Wait staff was excellent, ambiance was great. A little pricey but worth it.

    I know it was restaurant week, but it was so rushed we felt we had to eat quickly or our next course would be served. That made it hard to enjoy our meal.

    We have ate here several times before and it is an upscale restaurant but we were sat right next to the bar and it was so loud that we could not hear each other talk. Very disappointing especially since we pay top dollar to eat there. I asked for a different table and they said it was already reserved and she walked away instead of trying to find us a different table. So the overall experience was disappointing. The hostess had jeans on? All servers wear black and usually the hostesses are dressed nicely. I think the upscale atmosphere has changed to casual dining but the price has not.

    Service was top tier, food was excellent - we couldn’t decide which entree to get - and the atmosphere was very romantic. We will definitely be coming back. The reservation fee is a little steep but that is my only negative feedback.

    Our dinner was OK, service was good as you’d suspect. Food was varied. Croquettes weren’t the best, entrees were good but nothing to write home about. Dessert was good, especially the pistachio dessert. Too pricey for what we got. Likely won’t go back, prefer food down the hall albeit more expensive.

    We had a lovely Valentines Day date at Pepenero. This was our fourth visit and frankly the food didn't wow us like it did the previous visits. Things we loved were the fresh pasta, wagu flank steak roll, focaccia bread and excellent wine and cocktails. For appetizers we went with the octopus and the crab croquettes. The flavor of the octopus was amazing but some bites were chewy and the crab croquettes didn't blow us away. We both agreed we should have ordered the filet as it's always so so good. Our server was great, it was her first week and she knew the menu very well. Previous visits there were specials for appetizers, pasta and entree. Last night there was just a pasta addition which we were slightly disappointed in as we've eaten much of the menu, but of course these things cannot be expected. We'll be back I'm sure but this visit we left just a little underwhelmed. Atmosphere is always great. I wouldn't call it quiet but not loud by any means.

    PepeNero needs a place to check winter coats. It felt tacky to have to have our winter coats hanging off the back or our chairs during a fine dinning experience.

    Seated in the bar area at the round booth. Very nice. Immensely enjoyed both the Ravioloni Lobster special of the evening and the Ravioloni on the. Menu with the porcini mushrooms. Semifreddo pistachio Carmel and hazelnut desire was amazing!

    Authentic Italian restaurant in old traverse mental hospital. Ambiance is great, food is fantastic, and service was top shelf. Drinks were some of the best we’ve had and dessert was great as well. Would go back to traverse city just for this place. Definitely planning to return for dinner and exploring the old asylum grounds.

    PepeNero is our favorite Traverse City restaurant! The food is always amazing—Pappardelle is my go to—and the staff goes above and beyond to welcome you and serve you throughout your entire meal. Anytime my wife and I have something to celebrate, we treat ourselves to a beautiful dinner at PepeNero.
