About Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

The best thing is simply the food. All our dishes were prepared perfectly. We had salmon, tenderloin and eggplant. We couldn’t say enough good things about our dishes. It was very crowded that evening so valet was a bit hectic.

I love this restaurant but I was very disappointed with this reservation. We arrived on time to a packed parking lot and the valets were running in all directions to handle the volume of cars. Once inside the restaurant the foyer was packed with people. The hostess found my reservation in the system and then informed me there would be a minimum 30 minute wait time. This was a business lunch and we could not wait for a table.
We’ve been here three times, and it has rapidly become one of our favorites in the city. Delicious food, impeccable service, very comfortable dining room. I must compliment even the back-up service (bus boys?). We had Eric, and he was very attentive, and personable.
I can’t imagine anyone ever being disappointed by Ousie’s!
Glad to see that the new ownership has seamlessly continued the same excellent, timeless, casual elegance Ouisie created. Somehow the ambiance is energetic but relaxed enough to allow for a decent conversation. It's also nice, and unusual unfortunately, to find food this good in a laid-back place that doesn't feel like a hideous, high-powered, pretentious upscale chain. Invariably, it's simply a nice, cool, comfortable place to eat, and eat well. Good people watching, albeit a tad long in the tooth.
Something has changed. I used to find everything on the menu to be fresh and good. I invited two friends to join me and they chose the vegetable plate, saying that the crab and shrimp salads had not been good the prior times they were there. Not fresh, according to them. My chicken curry salad was ok but certainly could have been better if the chicken had been chopped up rather than placed as whole chicken breasts atop spinach. Too much sauce, too hard to eat, and the bacon bits were at the bottom of the bowl. Just not good and I was disappointed. I normally do not

What a fantastic find! Loved the atmosphere, menu, and our server Augusto! We felt the menu was well priced. I had the blackboard special of pan seared Mahi Mahi over lobster risotto with asparagus spears, SO delicious! Husband had the cornmeal fried oysters accompanied by a mini tomato salad and a slaw blue cheese mix. It was great too. We split a bottle of wine and opted out of the multiple amazing looking desserts. We will definitely come back next time we are in Houston. Highly recommend this place!
This was the worse dining experience I have ever had in Houston. A sorority party in the main dining room and we were left alone. We had two guests in town and was so embarrased with the food and service. 6:30 and no chicken on the menu. Two of us ordered the trout and the fish was cold and the mashed potatoes ice cold. Waiter was clueless. Will never return. AC was set about 60 degrees. The most disgusting dinner I have ever had.
I have eaten here many times since my first visit in 2001. I specifically wanted to take friends there who are new to Houston and have never been there. The six of us were placed at a long table which made it difficult to converse, plus it was SO loud in the room, we could hardly hear ourselves think. Service was a bit slower than usual. Drinks were good but the waiter forgot the martini olives. He was also slow bringing appetizers and entrees. He forgot some desserts. The noise was the worst. Food was good, not great. I was very disappointed
Excellent, excellent excellent! I eat out often but this the overall best experience I have had in years. Our server was attentive but not intrusive, (Mona)), the food was amazing. I had the Parmesan crusted trout, my sister had the scallop special. We had just had scallops the night before and these were so much better! The dining room is beautiful. I am a little nervous leaving such a raving review but I honestly can not find a fault
The ambiance was good. The cuisine overall was good. I had the seafood crepes. The shrimp contained inside the crepes were overcooked. I would not order this item again. My companion's cornmeal pancakes had a heavy taste of baking soda. I am a baker and this tells me that the recipe for this item needs some tweaking. One should not be able to taste the baking soda in the cornmeal pancake. Otherwise, the meal was good. I would definitely return with my spouse in the near future before we move from Houston early in the new year. The service was excellent and attentive.
I invited clients for Friday lunch. When I made the reservations I noted it was for business lunch. There was no mention the main dining room had a private function. It turned out we were sat in a small little room and the noise form the main dining room was overwhelming. I wanted the lunch to be a special treat for clients unfortunately it was not.
Loved the atmosphere. Wonderful wait staff. Attentive but not invasive, ever. We lingered after lunch talking and enjoyed every minUte. I had the lunch special, tenderloin w sweet potatoes and spinach w a wonderful sauce. Definite have again. Cooked exactly as I had asked, medium rare.
