I've eaten here many a time. The food was always excellent, though the last time I went, the menu was changed, so less choice and more of a casual dining experience. The reason for the poor review this time is due to us booking for lunch, only to find it closed when we got there.
Please update your times and don't let people book for 2.30pm when you don't open till 4pm.
We ate at Obica on NYE. We got to the restaurant at 6:00 pm and it was very quiet, which worked out well for us because we were a party of 12. Although the wait staff was very nice, it took a very long time to get drinks and an even longer time to get our dinner. The quality of the food was good, however everyone who ordered pizza got cold pizza, which was disappointing because I think it would have been very good otherwise. The lasagna got good reviews and it arrived to the table warm. After eating, our crew was eager to leave because of NYE plans, but when we asked for the check they informed us that their computer system was down and they would not be able to give us a bill for a while. This might explain why the food was so slow in coming out, and why it was cold when it arrived! I realize that computer malfunctions happen... it is a part of our world now, but what was disappointing was that the restaurant didn't make any attempt to make up for the issues we experienced. They never offered a free dessert or any sort of remedy for our experience. I did not complain, but I will probably not be eating at this restaurant again.
Love this place! Interesting & delicious menu. Great outdoor & inside spaces. Their back balcony counter seating is a wonderful place to sip wine & enjoy over looking the LA city below!
Tony, Nicholas, Jesus and Angel were so lovely and truly made our night that much more special with their humor and kindness 🙏 Thank you & can’t wait to be back again soon!
We were there on a damp Tuesday night so we sat inside. Our server was great! We waited an hour for the 3rd person in our party to show up. Our server was Super patient and yet attentive at the same time. We had a nice (not rushed) dinner starting with the Burrata which was really yummy. Followed by the Winter salad, also yummy unique flavors! We each had different pasta dishes and loved every bite. I had the bolognese and it was one of the best I've had! We basically closed the place down during our birthday desserts. Our server even put a candle in it and sang HBD to us! Never once did we feel pressure to leave and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening there. I would definitely return and I would recommend this place as well!
Amazing food & amazing service what else can I ask for!! My new go to restaurant!!!
Terrific service, food, and ambiance
Delicious, but expansive pizza. Great view during sunset. Unfortunately very poor service.
We came here for my birthday and everyone in our party found the food very disappointing. The Cacio e Pepe was heavily drenched in oil with just a light dusting of Parmesan, and the fresh mozzarella pizza tasted highly acidic and a little old. My husband had the Bolognese which looked like the sauce had separated - watery at the bottom under the pasta, topped with overcooked ground beef. We were very surprised, but it was the worst italian food any of us had had in LA.
Pizza & Lasagna were disappointing, the cocktail was fine. Service except for Angel was mediocre.
Not at all anything like the experience you get in Rome or NYC.
The food was good and atmosphere was great with the open patio doors, created an indoor/outdoor feel throughout the restaurant.
Beautiful spot on Sunset Plaza with a great wine list and fantastic appetizers. They are famous for mozzarella imported from Italy. That's a must try. I had a nice branzino, too. Lovely street side seating and at night it's romantic with candles and nice lighting. Great view in back too!
Beautiful evening for dining alfresco! Delicious beautiful food!
Wine sent back. Food was very bland. Extremely overpriced. Will not return.
Took two of my Italian friends visiting from central Cal. They don’t get to enjoy authentic Italian food anymore since moving, they were very very pleased! I was too! Everything was delicious, restaurant is beautiful, views are beautiful, and not as noisy as you would think sitting right on Sunset Blvd. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and she kept checking in on us! Portions are perfect, we ordered a lot for the table to taste but felt satisfied and not stuffed. Everything was delicious and priced very fair!
2nd time dining here. Place feels like a tourist trap with no vibe. Food was fine, nothing memorable just not terrible. Kids like the pasta so that's why we went. But for an adult meal would rather spend money on a more memorable meal.
I am hundred percent italian and I brought here a group of friends visiting from Italy. We all were dying to eat some authentic food and real mozzarella. This place is a good place if you want to eat good appetizers and pasta with authentic ingredients but it’s NOT the place fo neither real mozzarella nor buttata or ricotta. Honestly, I eat WAY better mozzarella at Costco!
So, we were very disappointed when it came to the reason why this place even opened...to sell authentic mozzarella! Nope.
Furthermore, if you are on a diet, definitely come here....portions are ultra small. Maybe a 3 years old child could feel satisfied but not a tween or an adult. You get up still hungry.
Beside poor quality cheese (even the cannoli were awful because the ricotta was some melted cheese that has nothing to do with ricotta), the service was the worst. We suspect the waiter was new...not just to the restaurant but to the profession! He had no idea of how to open the bottle of wine. We showed him. He didn’t know the menu or what the plates were about. But again...there is always a first time so we think he was just trying to check if he wants to be a waiter and he’ll learn like all things.
The wine list is great. All from Italy.
The pasta dishes were authentic, with spaghettoni cacio and Pepe being super delicious.
It’s noisy if you sit outdoor but traffic noise is totally normal in sunset plaza. Although appetizers, pasta and wine were excellent, we would no go back because back because it’s pricy for a place that serves your ultra small portions.
Great to sit outside and eat good food and it's always good!
The service was awful. Asked for plain ice water. 3 glasses came. 5 min later the 4th. 2 were sparkling. We all asked for ice when we asked for the water. Another 10 min she came w 1 glass of ice for 4 ppl. Ordered cocktails. That was about 15 min wait. Obica famous for this. Not a person sitting at bar. It always happens. You lose our on us having a 2nd, 3rd round cuz it takes so long. Don't u make the most $ on beverage? The busmen were good. 3 pasta dishes good. One ice cold. They bring 3 drinks then 5 min later the 4th. Same w entrees. We come there all the time, I believe most mgrs and wait staff know us. Unless we have Nicola or one of the girls, not the one from the other night, service sucks. You should get cocktails RIGHT out, ,,, the wait is crazy and u r losing $$ The other night was $244 plus tip for four people it felt like it should have been $80. I'm sorry to say I will maybe give it one more try, and if it not vastly improved we are done. It irked me to even give the 20% tip. What is the general management doing? The people above Mikela, Dorian? Your wait staff in general (not Nikole) needs major training. As dies your bartender service. So disappointed
The portions were extremely small compared to prior trip. My partner and I shared and we did not feel the prices were worth the amount of food that obica served us.
We had excellent Burrata and tasty little pizzas with a terrific crust. Sitting outside on a summer evening with a glass of wine and lovely food made for an especially enjoyable evening.
We loved everything about Obica except the street noise. In fairness, we asked to sit outside, so the noise couldn’t really be helped. Except for that one tiny thing, it was a wonderful and memorable dining experience. We tried many different dishes, but we’ll be back to try the ones we didn’t!
Lasagna was over baked and chicken was over cooked
Would go for the mozzarella alone Had the “experience “ with meats and cheese was great. Food receives 4 stars because 2 of our party of 9 had the pasta with duck ragu which was recommended by the waiter. It came out cold and cold duck just always seems to me just a little off
Food was amazing and service could not have been better! I would recommend this place for everyone!
The place is great. We love to go there from time to time and the service is 5-star while the prices aren't outrageous. A definite recommend from me.
great outdoor seating at sunset plaza. this place has legitimate italian food! they actually have the same restaurant in rome that i went to a few weeks ago and i can tell you this location on sunset plaza is totally authentic with imported ingredients from italy! i highly recommend this restaurant for the ambiance and the delicious food!
Celebrating a friend’s engagement. Outdoor seating was lovely. Great service. Appetizers were good. Pasta was ok. I expected to be more “wowed.”
Lovely overall experience seated outdoors. Fine menu and food quality with excellent service. Very enjoyable experience.
Food, drinks , and service are always consistently good here. It speaks to the management and how they train their staff.
Obica is the BEST and have a great happy hour!!
Was recommended by family so I knew it would be good! The risotto was the best we’ve ever eaten. Anywhere! Great cocktails!
Always good food!
Having bad allergies to Garlic and celentro it's a pleasure to know it's not in the used in the kitche.
OBICA was delicious. You can taste that the ingredients are very fresh. It was Impressive to learn that 80% of their ingredients are imported from Italy. I will go back!
Easy parking is a bonus!. Food delicious, wonderful service. Fixtures and seating adequate but sparse, nice outdoor patio but Sunset Traffic is noisy. I will go back!
On a beautiful evening sitting outside is a great way to dine on elegantly served wonderful tasting Italian cuisine.
Delightfully light with full flavor. Most enjoyable dinner.
Food was amazing. Ravioli was the highlight for me.
Fantastic food, ambience and service! I highly recommend this establishment for any occasion!
