About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
The Bistro at Muriel’s Jackson Square offers contemporary Creole cuisine with New Orleans classics like Seafood Gumbo, Turtle soup, Shrimp & Grits and Wood Grilled Pork Chop while the Courtyard Bar is the perfect place to drop by for drinks and appetizers. The Séance Lounge is the place for a relaxed, comfortable meeting before or after dining. Comprised of two areas, The Outer Seance and The Inner Séance, the Séance also tells the story of a mystic checkered past. The Outer Séance addresses the New Orleans era of Storyville when Muriel's Jackson Square was one of the French Quarter's top bordellos! The Inner Séance is the preferred domain of the resident ghost, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan; it's the perfect spot for an intimate conversation or a drink among its plush surroundings. The 170 foot wrap-around balcony is a splendid spot for enjoying our specialty cocktails or our extensive wine list featuring over 300 selections from around the world.

It's a wonderful place, history and location, ambience- just one very important aspect needs improvement, the servers work In teams apparently and there's a hard rush on the experience- constant push to order is very annoying. Beyond that it's great.

Butternut squash soup - delicious Pate - absolutely awful - was told they put a layer of chicken fat on top to “keep it fresh”; tasted muddy; never had a pate taste like that Turtle soup - delicious Drinks - wonderful, especially the basil and blackberry martini NY Strip - cooked very well and truly done medium rare - appreciated! Duck - sadly it was such a disappointment, very tough and chewy, not enough sauce - duck is one of my favorite things when done well. Service - we had two servers and still the service felt lacking - inattentive and slow - for those prices I want to be treated like I’m having a nice dinner out for a special occasion. Just an overall “meh” experience all around. I can’t recommend this. NOLA has too many other great places to try.

Brunch was unique and great. Tasso ham and pimento cheese omelette. Home made biscuits were hardy. Jazz trio added a super atmosphere. Would certainly go back.

Food was OK, but had a strange under taste. Went for jazz brunch based on other reviews and the jazz part + ambience was great. Mimosas and Bloody Mary was great, but was just disappointed with the food taste and wanted something more simple to eat (eg plain scrambled eggs)

First time to be mildly disappointed at Muriel’s. Our dinner party was cold as we were seated directly under an A/C vent. Our servers were pleasant but slow. Perhaps Saturday night during Jazzfest is not the best time to choose a dining experience at Muriel’s?
