Mole Y Abuela Tampa
Drinks and food were consistently great, and service was excellent.
I really enjoyed how the server actually knew the menu and what she was talking about. Makes a dining out experience so much better. Energetic environment, with a variety of cool seating spaces. Menu allows you to try several things. Looking forward to going back!
This was my third time dining there and the food and service has been consistently excellent!!! It is a pleasure to dine there from the moment I get there until I leave...my thanks to the entire staff in front of house and at the back of the house 🙂🙂🙂
Everything about Mole Y Abuela is amazing. The food was delicious (don't you dare leave without getting the Churros). Most importantly, the service far exceeded my expectations. The staff was incredibly attentive.
The food here was outstanding and the drinks were great. Definitely try the papas bravas, the lamb shank, and the Tampa replenish.
Our server Jesse was great! Very knowledgeable on food and drinks and gave great recommendations. Highly recommend the Papas bravas and croquetas as appetizers! One of the best margaritas I’ve had also with his recommendation of a smoked tequila. They also sent me churros for my birthday. The manager Alan, stopped by to check on us and was very cordial making sure we were enjoying our experience. Will definitely be back to try other menu items.
We tried several of the tapas items, but the real star for me was the “Guiso de Mariscos.” The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the broth was so flavorful. The preserves lemon in the bottom of the bowl brought a lovely citrus note to the dish that was like a little surprise. We’ll be back for sure.
Sat on the rooftop for our 5pm reservation. Great view and the weather made the whole experience even better. Though the music was loud considering the relatively early time of day
It was great from beginning to end. When we first arrived, we ordered ‘tapas’ which is basically an appetizer. We waited for a while and never even notice how long it was taking to receive what we ordered because we were so caught up taking in the atmosphere of the restaurant and street view. The waitress noticed it had been a minute since we ordered it and ultimately the manager came and told us they were sorry and took off the order and gave us our desert free. Great experience overall. The customer service was excellent. Beat I ever experienced in a while. We will definitely be back! 10/10!
Really nice upgrades from the previous restaurant in the space! We tried many things and everything was great. Four of us dined on a Friday night and had a great time. We all loved the stuffed peppers, we should have ordered 2! The potatoes were a huge hit, along with the shrimp dish and the lamb. One of us is a vegetarian and didn’t feel there were enough choices although she enjoyed everything she tried. Cocktails were a bit pricey but good. Wine seemed to be short on selections (by the glass) and on the pour. Dining room was super loud and hard to have a conversation but we all had a great time anyway. Will definitely visit again!
Concept sounded good, however way over priced for what you get. Food is mediocre. And for some of the entree listed items , they don’t even have sides (rice beans plantains etc...) to order with the meal. Sorely disappointed.
While the ambience was nice, everything else left much to be desired. Our server got our order wrong on the first two tapas and forgot to put in the order for the other two tapas. She was not very attentive and passed our table several times but did not stop to check on us so it took a while to let her know that the rest of our food had not come. When she did come by she asked if we were ready for dessert, so it was apparent that she was not keeping track of our order. We ordered the lamb shank and were very disappointed in the amount of meat on the bone. For $29 we expected a more generous portion. The tortillas that came with it were cold and not pliable so it was not possible to make tacos with the shank as recommended. The mole sauce was very nice. We did mention our issues with the lamb shank and she comped us a round of drinks which was very appreciated.
Everything about our experience was phenomenal. From the staff giving us hints where to park, to the hostess, bussers, food runners, management and most importantly our server, Roasanna extraordinary. As you can see from this comment we come from a hospitality background and this place is how it’s suppose to be done in the restaurant business. That’s not even mentioning the food and drinks. Can’t rave enough about the food. Everything was presented beautifully and in a timely manner. I recommend so many things as we tried almost everything. I highly recommend the duck. I do not like duck but my girl Roasanna promised me it was awesome. I tried it and I’ll only eat it there now! Don’t walk, run and try this place out!
Went with a group of 4 after seeing a show at the Straz. Everyone was so nice even though we were a few minutes late for our reservation. Our server was wonderful and really helped guide us through the menu since it was our first time. Will definitely be back to check out the rooftop bar!
Food excellent though I'd skip the Iberico ham. Small portions, pricey. Sage, our waitress, was excellent.
We were excited to try this new place. They did a good job with the decor inside. Unfortunately, we were highly disappointed with the food. We tried 4 tapas: 1) pork and lamb meatballs - dry, not good at all, 2) stuffed peppers - didn't taste good, 3) ham croquettes - bland, 4) patatas bravas - not true to its recipe. The restaurant was extremely pricey, and in my opinion, not worth the money we paid. Based on the disappointing flavor of the 4 tapas, we decided we were done trying. We actually left the restaurant hungry. Chef Fabio, please revisit the menu offering, we love Osteria down the street, but this concept is not good. Quite honestly, I don't think the restaurant will make it unless they make some serious changes to the menu. For perspective, Bulla Gastrobar on S Howard is head and shoulders better, and we will go there to get our tapas fix next time. On a positive note, the mixed drinks were good though. Our server was very pleasant. Unfortunately, I don't see us returning here until the menu is changed or another concept takes over.
Always excited to try new places downtown. This replaced The Fly Bar. Same deal. Great drinks, not so good food.
Service was great. Over and beyond great.
But, the food was terrible. Being pricey made it all the more horrible.
All items came to our table unbelievably table fast. Not sure if that’s a good thing now.
Octopus: cold, no flavor. 2 bites and slid plate away
Shrimp: flavorful sauce but cold.
Chicharrones: we ate them. But, thought they would be true chicharrones as a $10 tapa. turned out to be a $0.89 bag of pork rinds from 7-11 dumped in a bowl.
Recommendation would be for chef and owners to take a step back and reevaluate their menu and recipes.
They’re missing such a great opportunity.
As for your choice in staff? You rocked it.
Loved eating outside. Great to have great food in a great city with wonderful service and unique tastes!
The portion size was very small but the pricing was very high. I had the octopus which was supposed to come with fingerling potatoes which were not there. It was one small tentacle for $22.
It was just ok. Some of the dishes were good, some, not so much. Three dishes were good - asparagus, potatoes and scallops. The salad with the anchovies was disappointing. The flavors didn’t compliment well, and the anchovies tasted more like pickled herring. The salad that came with the carne asada did not taste good when the meat juices mixed with it. The Churros were excellent. And the cocktail with cucumber was tasty.
Food and Service were exceptional!
Overall the experience was very good. We ordered the arugula salad, which was good, but we didn"t realize it contained beets, which my partner is allergic to (the part of the description that explained this was in Spanish). We didn't complain, but when the server noticed he hadn't eaten it we explained what happened. When the bill arrived the salad was removed - a nice, unexpected touch. Meatballs and patatas bravas were outstanding. We're visitors to Tampa so we can't go back, but definitely would if the opportunity arises.
Food good to very good. Service excellent. Asked for a decanter and they went or sister restaurant to get one. Very impressed. Ordered a 40 dollar scotch and a 12 dollar Bourbon and we were charged a 3 dollar neat fee
on. both. Very disappointed. Will give one more try. Management was very attentive as well. Hope they work the work the kinks out. I could go to Bern’s for the price. Don’t charge me 3 dollars on my neat pour.
Perfect. That’s all that is needed
For a place that advertises as Spanish inspired, I must say that at least they should take another look at their tapas, what the other Spanish restaurants in the area offer and decide to whether improve that portion of the menu or change it altogether and just sell appetizers.
You cannot advertise chicharrón and serve a plate of pork grinds ( the ones that come in bags and are sold for $0.99 at a gas station). Let alone include it as a side with your main dishes.
Papas bravas had nothing bravo about them and the stuffed peppers, well, not serious enough to compete with the other tapas restaurants in the area.
This is a place that is located in a beautiful building, in one of the most recognized locations in downtown. It was the place that for over a decade was a staple for a good night out in downtown Tampa, so I hope they will set the bar high and contribute to Tampa’s growing culinary revolution.
Food was fantastic! Prices were a bit high. Service outstanding for a new restaurant. Will definitely return.
Pescado De Provisión, Bacon-wrapped dates and pulpo were stand out favs. Great cocktails and of course the roof top is 👌🏻
Food is wonderful, though need to order a number of dishes if it is dinner. Inside is very noisy. The rooftop is charming and it was a very enjoyable experience.
Great dining experience, excellent food. VERY expensive for the portion sizes. You can get the same dining and food quality at numerous other restaurants in the area such as Bulla Gastro or Ceviche.
The waitress Sydney turned this whole experience around or it wouldnt be 5 stars. Once we arrived the hostesses were really rude we arrived a couple minutes early and although there was a server outside helping a table they were rude about sitting us. After telling us we would need to wait five minutes to be seated another party came in not even a minute after and they seated them right away even though according to the hostesses they were not open yet. Thank you to the waitress for leaving a better impression
Each plate was even better than the prior. Will definitely be back.
The food was delicious. We liked everything we had. Especially the chicharrones, lamb chops, and churros. The ambiance was nice, if slightly loud. But we could carry on a conversation among the four of us. The service staff was knowledgeable and attentive. The biggest concern we all had was the value of the experience. The portions seem small, even for tapas. And surely was not worth a total bill of $300 for all of us. That was for a 4-5 shared tapas to start, each of us had a fish/meat entree + side, 2 drinks each, 2 shared desserts. Again, delicious food, nice ambiance, great staff....price to serving sizes needs an adjustment.
This place was fantastic! Let's hope they keep it up. We share 6 different tapas and 2 desserts. Our favorites, Tuna crudo and Carne Asada. Sangria was very good after they "fixed" it for us.
Plan to go back for the rooftop experience.
What a great new restaurant & bar in an old familiar place! The Spanish/Mediterranean fare is awesome. There are so many unique items on the menu it’s going to take several visits to experience them all. Love the steak tartar and snapper... two items the noobs rarely have the courage to try! And, then, there’s the rooftop bar! What’s not to love?!
We had several selections from the tapas section of the menu as well as a few glasses of wine by the glass. They were all very good and appropriately priced. We also ordered the lamb chops a la plancha from what appeared to be the entree section of the menu. That dish was also very good, but the portion priced at $34, which would have been appropriate for an entree, was barely larger than a tapas serving. If it was priced at $24, it would have still been small, but would have been acceptable. The place has a lot of potential, but right now, it's a bad deal.
