Mister Tuna, a nod to the nickname of Chef Guard's father, evokes the feeling of a family with shareable dishes cooked over an open wood fire. Whether grabbing a craft cocktail at the bar, digging in to fresh oysters and poke at the chef's counter or hosting dinner with Ohana in the main dining room, Mister Tuna offers a culinary variety fit for every palate in an urban setting.
Troy Guard and his team do an amazing job at hosting these special events! We were there for a Valentine’s Day celebration and the food and wine pairing were perfect. The price point is very reasonable for what you get as well, which is becoming hard to get in Denver.
I will definitely be back and attend their future events.
After enjoying my experience at this location last year for Valentines day, under the name "Mr. Tuna", I was looking forward to another enjoyable dinner this Valentines. There's a bit of confusion over the name now, as the original "Mr. Tuna" isn't, umm, there now, but the location still uses the name on the menu. One of the things I enjoyed last time was their tuna offerings. However, even though the menu listed "Mr. Tuna", tuna wasn't on the menu, as was literally only offered as an afterthought. Gone are incredible dishes, such as octopus; replaced with scant deconstruction of common dishes. I understand Valentines menus are often experimental, but that means the chef is putting their best on show. I did not see such for this meal; quite the opposite, in my opinion.
Everything was amazing
This experience was an amazing concept. The menu was a delicious variety. And our server was extremely pleasant. Chef Troy is a gem!
It’s CLOSED! You should remove it from OpenTable. I loved it when it was open. Pretty disappointed to learn it was closed. It really should be removed from OpenTable.
Mister Tuna is closed.
Food came out too fast. Felt like we were rushed in and out. I would have ordered a second drink if they didn’t bring the food so quickly.
Our server Diablo was amazing
We will miss the amazing food
Excellent service! Did a particularly nice job making sure a vegan in our party was well served. Food was also excellent. Sorry that Mister Tuna will no longer be a restaurant but glad you’re staying on scene as a special event location.
Everything we ordered was outstanding. The sauces on everything were so good we literally licked our plates clean.
a solid C+
Credit card required reservations for the guest chef special occasion - Chef Counter seats secured.
Instead, we're seated in the back corner table, Dennys level service, and hollow apologies from the management.
Thankfully the food was enjoyable.
Since they’re closing, I felt like they didn’t really care about the quality of the food.
A must-do for any F&B professional visiting Denver. The Chef, FOH manager, and my server were all so very hospitable, professional, and welcoming. My El Guapa cocktail, the Tuna Poke', and the Caviar Service were all highlights. Sit at the kitchen counter and watch the magic happen! The folks at Mister Tuna are doing it right. Bravo!
Food was good but the portions was so small. Not a good value most of the shared tapas style items were $15. Getting sick of these places that are focusing more on the artistic value of the food then the food itself. This seems to be one of the places.
Amazing vibes and amazing food! Suggest to anyone looking for great drinks and sharing plates! The octopus is to die for!
Wow, I do like the TAG group of restaurants, but our table of 4 found our happy hour drinks and food waaaaaaaaay overpriced, portions were minimal, and it wasn’t really exceptional. When you’re sitting in one restaurant and talking about where you can go to get food, you know that they are charging too much for too little. Will not be going back.
Hello Bandit - We sincerely apologize we didn't meet your expectations that you have come to know from our sister restaurants within TAG Restaurant Group. I would have loved the opportunity to improve your experience while you were here and am so sorry that you didn't feel the overall value of your experience lived up to our reputation. However, we thank you for taking the time to provide us your candid feedback. We hope you will still frequent our other concepts in the near future.
My wife and I came to celebrate purchasing our first house, and the entire experience was amazing, as always. Our server was attentive, quick to give a recommendation for wine, and remembered all of our names. The food is always off-the-charts amazing and fresh, and the ambience is inviting and energetic.
Mister Tuna has become our new special occasion restaurant in Denver, replacing those on Larimer Square.
This is always our goto for special occasion celebrations or when we have people in town that are as passionate about food as my wife and I. We celebrated my birthday there last week and sat at the Chef's counter--which is great for asking questions of the chef and seeing some fantastic dishes coming out of the kitchen. Chef Max and Mike who held down the service end, were simply fantastic. It was one of the 3 best eating experiences of my life--I wouldn't change a single thing.
Great meal! I recommend the grilled octopus, hiramasa crudo, and the duck; the gnocci is must try.
Moved reservation to an hour earlier to avoid noise, but still was really loud by 7-730 pm. Food was great, service excellent.
Music too loud, although they did turn it down when requested
Waiter too loud-service was prompt but way too familiar
Great food, but terrible service, no pace to the meal, drinks finally came after food started coming. Felt scattered and disorganized. Lots of great places to eat in Denver, we may skip going back to this one.
Really sweet patio for outdoor dining, cool neighborhood, great service, impressive seafood & drink choices. Went with several couples and had a wonderful meal. Highly recommended.
Fabulous in every way. Discovered Mister Tuna at the beginning of our trip to Denver and went back with friends at the end of that same trip - it is that good! Shout out to the staff, management, and chef magicians for their outstanding care of the guests, the exceptionally fresh products, and this very special place. Well done...and this is coming from a SF Bay Area person. I’ll be back whenever I’m in Denver. XO
Service was shotty at best, the server spilt stuff all over the table, said he was coming back to clean it- never did- but didn’t leave us any napkins so we could do it ourselves. Our food sat in front of us for almost 10 min before we could get someone to get us silverware after asking 3 different people. Prices were way higher than the quality of the food. Not impressed, will not recommend and will not go back.
Our server was absent and inefficient. The food was good but the poor experience over shadowed the food.
Solid experience all around. The king crab, octopus, poke are all A++. I'll be back soon.
Absolutely loved the collaboration with Chef Hugo from Houston. Menu was creative and delicious.
We came for the guest chef dinner with drink pairings and it was absolutely FABULOUS!! Even got to meet Troy Guard!! A highlight for me! Food was so thought out and the drinks were fun and a great addition.
My only complaint, the restaurant is a little loud
Went for a special tasting menu with chef Hugo Ortega.
Service was terrible. Incorrect drinks brought for second round. Then never received them for 40+ minutes. First 3 dishes were terrific and served timely. After that, the service fell beyond short. The lamb dish took so long to arrive and then it wasn't even warm! For the price of this special event... big disappointment. That being said, would still go back and give them another try.
Food was amazing, service was quite good and chef Troy Guard came by our table to chat.
We visited Mr Tuna this past Saturday and enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is clean, hip and open with a varied menu of both traditional and eclectic dishes. Most offerings are small plates and the restaurant guidance is to assume a 3 to 5 plate dinner. We shared tapas style and ordered duck, a burger, kale salad, a tuna plate consisting of 4 dishes, octopus and gnocchi. All were tasty though I’d encourage MR Tuna to improve the presentation of the tuna sashimi as it slid around the plate and was a bit small but very tasty and fresh. All in all it’s a great restaurant worthy of the rating it received from Westword
Absolutely amazing flavors and decoration. Adding some more words
Poor service through - first course never came then missing add-on octopus after reminding server. Drinks ordered at same time took 15 minutes. Not crowded and no real excuse. First course came but still no silverware. Food was hit and miss and some portions small. Have been here twice before but has been some time. No plans to go back. Better options
The food was fantastic. I wish the waitress explained how the portions worked a little better. Otherwise it's a great place to get together and celebrate.
Great service and ambiance. You can only order tapas which is hard to fill up my 25 year old son.
Horrible service. The portion sizes are the smallest I've ever seen. I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless someone is looking to wait 30 minutes for their first drink and over an hour for their first "appetizer".
I had heard great things about Mister Tuna and was excited to go but given how easy it was to get a reservation I should have known it might not live up to that expectation. I wanted to like it but the service was poor and the appalling bad acoustics made a half empty restaurant so noisy that it was hard to hear my friend. The food was weirdly too sweet in all the courses and when the check arrived the bill was very high for a small unsatisfying meal. I hope for other diners’ sake they can get back to when this place was good but I don’t plan to return.
I love Troy Guard’s restaurants and was really excited to try Mr. Tuna. The food was amazing, but was incredibly expensive for the size of the plates. I’ll stick with TAG or Guard and Grace!
