Bang Up To The Elephant!
Land-locked Denver islanders can find escape with freshly cracked coconut cocktails and festive beach-shack foods ...all within a tropical postcard moment. The unusual setting reflects the different approaches found in the restaurant’s scratch-made offerings; vegetarians, omnivores, vegans, and fruitarians will feel equally delighted by the unexpected and island-inspired options. It’s as if the entire restaurant just landed from an unknown alternate-dimension, bringing technicolor palm-trees swinging to crooning bird-song.
Bang Up to the Elephant! is a not-to-miss.

Our service was very slow, almost every single time we were out of a drink we had to flag down our waitress to ask for refills. Luckily the food was delicious but half of our food came out and the rest didn’t come out for another 20 minutes. Half of our group was done eating before the other half got their food.
Meh. I wouldn’t go back.
We began the evening with some very tasty cocktails. Although they were pretty steeply priced compared to the small glasses they came in.
Next the menu they have online e is NOT what they currently have in the restaurant. In fact they offered one of the items that I specifically came in for only for the restaurant week deal. So I wasn’t allowed to get it unless I wanted to be locked into 3 entrees that were not anything I would choose.
The food was mediocre at best. Not real
The service was not great at all. At one point when we were finished someone cleared the table then we sat for 30 mins until someone came by to ask us if we needed anything else. Then several mins later our waitress comes by to say she’s off someone will be taking over. Well we wanted our check 45 mins ago!
Lastly check you bill, they added drinks to our bill which no one in our party consumed.
Really wanted to love this vegetarian-friendly spot, but service was truly awful, to the point that it ruined our meals when they finally arrived AN HOUR AND A HALF after we had sat down!! And the meals? Sounded great on the menu, failed to deliver. Most of us didn't even finish our meal because it just wasn't good. Even the "Banana Ballz" pastry they gave us to try to make up for the wait wasn't worth eating. The decor was ecletic and fun, however the port-a-potty doors on the bathrooms was a big miss. Seriously?! Is there anything positive or fun about a port-a-potty?? Most patrons seemed to be drinking pretty steadily, so maybe the drinks are good, or maybe that's just what you need to get through this experience. Sorry guys, really wish I could have left a great review for you!
We visited Bang Up To The Elephant! as part of restaurant week. We were very excited to try out their food and drinks and experience the beautiful atmosphere. It was really easy to get a reservation and the table was ready when we got there. Our waitress very much acted like she didn't want to be there and was far from attentive (we are not a needy group, either). As far as the appetizers and entrees, I would say that it was all mediocre. Not bad but absolutely not stellar. The dessert was the worst part of the meal unfortunately. It was dry and none of us ate it. It almost felt like it was the last few pieces that had been sitting out in the kitchen all day. Our reservations were for 8:30 and at 9:30 the waitress told us it was last call which was strange because it was a Saturday night and the website made it seem like they were open late for drinks. We were pretty disappointed to have to finish up quickly because
the best of the entire meal was the drinks and we would have stayed longer.
We will definitely give it another shot because the atmosphere and drinks were great and it has fantastic reviews. Maybe it was just an off night due to restaurant week?
Scary neighborhood but the inside of the restaurant was super cool
Food was okay. Service was slow. Were were sitting down for an hour before our apps came out.
They accommodated our large group for a wedding (on a holiday!) and did a great job with everything !
We had the most disappointing meal that we've had in such a long time. Ordered drinks and three appetizers with the plan to order entrees. Drinks were fine but when we tasted the food.....UGH. Crispy eggplant was undercooked and crunchy. Mofongo....was kind of an insult as a puerto rican. The tomato "rum" sauce tasted like marinara and the plantain patty was no where close to an interpretation of the classic dish. We also got the seitan wings and they were tough and chewy (super hollow inside). Honestly I've never tasted seitan overcooked in this way and it was an INCREDIBLE surprise. Politely informed our server of what a mess the dishes were and she was a total sweetheart. The manager took only the eggplant off of the bill and never came to speak with us. We spent $60 bucks on a D- meal and stopped at Watercourse on our way back so we could get something edible in our bellies. I made a reservation for this restaurant 2 months in advance because I loved the menu and was completely inspired by the wide range of vegan options. Would NOT recommend to future vegan diners.
Brunch was delicious and all the options sounded great. The service was pretty slow.
The staff is so friendly and knowledgable! Had a great time with my friends as we worked our way through delicious drinks and food. We were all very appreciative of the wide range of vegan options.
The jerk chicken was very dry and the wings were inedible so over cooked . The bartender was our server he was excellent and so were my piña coladas!
It was a nice place for a quiet dinner conversation, with a cool vibe and unique interior! Will definitely be back for a more lively brunch with bottomless mimosas
The place is great. However the food quality and presentation was poor. My friend though was in a hospital, no condiments and just placed on the plate without taste. Menu was also very hard to understand. We could not understand what we were ordering.
Overall this place has lot of potentiality but it's not used as it's potential. It's a shape.
Plaintain chips were great and the shrimp bake was good too! Mimosas were good - service was a bit slow.
Fun atmosphere, great for an evening with family or friends. The food caters to many dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free), and their drinks are really delicious and unique. I've been a few times now and every service person is exceptional! Highly recommend!!
Went looking for eclectic and foodie - certainly found it
Great service - neat interior. Bathroom doors are to be experienced.
Food - West Indian / Caribbean and superb.
This place gets better every time I come. The jerk chicken is much improved from 6 months ago. And the service was very good. I will come back.
We were in Denver for business and went here for a date night. The food and service were wonderful but the restaurant dining experience wasn’t the best because you are seated way too close to others that are there dining and no privacy at your table.
It was empty and the service was terrible.
Really tasty and unique menu items. Best wings I’ve ever had - we will definitely be going back again!
I love this place!!! The decor is stunning and helped stave off how dreary it was outside. Service was fantastic. And the food is so flavorful!!! You’ve got to try the savory donuts. I could eat them every day. My new go to spot when I want great vegetarian food and an awesome spot to get some work done.
Drinks were tasty and food was just okay! The layout is very cool though and good for large groups. The service was very very kind and attentive!
Excellent food and a fun restaurant! Don’t be thrown off by the decor—it’s not as kitschy as you might think at a glance, and the atmosphere, music and crowd come together for an enjoyable experience.
Excellent restaurant in Capitol Hill. The drinks specials are well worth the truly special price and the food was terrific. The atmosphere was relaxed, wait staff excellent and décor perfectly fit the restaurant theme. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Food menu was confusing. Chicken wings not edible. Other items were good. Nice atmosphere.
Blah over complicated food with too much confusion.
Hindu, Jamaica, Asia, bloody Atlantis for all I care. Pretentious is not clever enough a word to describe this wanna be stylish hipster feed hole that whored me to the snore. Ignore it.
Celebrated our 3 year anniversary with some yummy drinks thanks to Jon our waiter who was super friendly and helpful! We will be returning :)
Having been to every country in the Caribbean, I was skeptical about someone trying to bring this type of cuisine to Denver. I was wrong. The food here is excellent, the flavors of the islands but with a bit of a modern/creative twist. Service provided by John was superb. Space is soaring and has a great vibe. We will be back.
Seriously so good! This is a must try! Do not let the exotic menu items scare you away. Happy hour has wonderful options for both drink and food. We tried the pork cubano, jerk chicken, and the chowmein bowl with an appetizer of plantain chips. Very good-- would highly recommend.
Made a reservation for 15 people and they were happy to accommodate. The server handled all our bills separately, which was very helpful. The ambiance, music and food was great. It was all our first times there s d we can’t wait to go back!
Great atmosphere but disappointing food. Great for cocktails and apps though!
What a fun place to spend time. The decor is funky and interesting, a combination of plants and modern design makes you feel like you're inside the book "Where the Wild Things Are." The wait staff were friendly and attentive, knowledgeable about the menu items and patient with our slow ordering process. The varied mixed drinks are fun and yummy - at least the ones we had (The Dewskitch & The Stallion). The curry dish we ordered was so good that I kept eating well beyond my body's natural instinct to stop! As a vegan, I was impressed with the amount of dish options for my diet and I will definitely be back to enjoy more.
The breakfast was awful. The drinks were definitely overpriced for what the were - just mediocre. I could not go back nor recommend.
Hey there, sorry you didn't like your dish -wish we could have learned about this at the time, as we'd happily exchanged it for an alternate. Lot's of other yummy dishes to try- As you probably noted, our drinks have some fantastic and unusual ingredients, and while we price them on average of about $9 each, sorry if this was too much. If you're looking for more value, next time try our $10 bottomless mango mimosas; hard to go wrong! Best wishes :)
Everything my party ordered was bad. The bread on my sandwich was soggy. My friend bothered the chow mein and it was too salty and liquidy. We ordered the peppers and edamame, there was only 3 or 4 peppers and the sauce was so vinegary. It was inedible. My other friend ordered a dish with chicken and rice. The rice was so over cooked that it all clumped together and mushy like mashed potatoes. Drinks were good and the place is cute, so if you're just meeting people for drinks then it'll be good. Otherwise, probably should find somewhere else.
Hi SarahK, Sorry you had an experience that wasn't what you'd hoped for- Our food is a bit unusual vs. most menus- for instance, the bread you mentioned is fried, with a copious amount of sauces. As we describe it, it's very messy, and that's the tradition of the sandwich. Same goes for the rice, it's intentionally made so that it seems over-cooked -as it's a dish that was invented this way; it's not separate rice/ peas , but they're "sticking together" like long lost friends!
Amazing customer service, gorgeous ambiance, cleanly and overall amazing atmosphere. Although I loved the place the food was quite bland. Would love to go back if I thought the food would be better.
Great food and drinks and great service.
You're a great guest, glad to have had you in! :)
Really cool and fun dish and drink options, awesome environment. It was a serious pain trying to find parking, it took nearly 30 min to find a spot. The wings and fried eggplant and sweet plantains were awesome, unfortunately the jerk chicken wasn’t anything to write home about. Overall, we had a great night with some friends from work.
Hey, thanks for chiming in about your experience! Glad you enjoyed what we had to offer here. Really bummed you had a hard time with the parking -wish we could control that, but as a residential neighborhood we have to take the amazingly good beauty ...with the not so amazing parking. Really happy what you found inside was solid though, we look forward to your next visit! :)
Great experience, will be back. Loved the ambiance
