Mercy Bar & Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
We were excited for this experience, however, a series of unfortunate events has cemented our decision to never go here again.
When we arrived, our reservation wasn't found, so we were seated at the bar (not a problem for us). While we told the hostess that we had tickets to a show and needed speedy service, we waited 15 mins for our server to arrive. He was apologetic, and took our entire order, and kindly recommended that we stick to appetizers because there was no time for entrees - understandable. Water was never refreshed. Our food arrived and our drinks had not as yet. We asked the server (different than our main server) that our drinks hadn't arrived and whether he could check on this - he said he would. Almost 10 mins later, when we were 3/4 of the way done with our food, we were able to flag our original server, and commented that we still hadn't received our drinks.
He was apologetic, but given the series of things that went wrong, it just left an uneasy feeling with regards to the night.
The couple that was seated next to us also had some disputes wtih their servers, and we commented on the service - they also agreed that the night had been a bust because everything had gone wrong with their order and service as well.
Given the proximity of this restaurant to Hennepin's many theatres, it would have been an obvious choice for future show's pre dinner experience, but we are crossing it out of our list.
We had a really tasty dinner at Mercy Friday night. It was great to see it so busy and buzzing with a good crowd in both the dining room and bar. The food was really good -- we had the salmon poke (delicious!), crab fried rice (good), and beer can chicken (really yummy, just needed a bit more sauce). We had a 6:30 reservation (with tix to a show at the State/next door at 8:00). We were seated about 5 minutes late as we had to wait quite a while for the valet to take our car. That was no big deal ... but we were virtually ignored for over 10 minutes. No one came to take our order, no one stopped by our table, or said they'd be with us soon. That's a long time at a nice restaurant. There was a waitress tending to tables right next to us so we finally stopped her and asked if our table was in someone's section. She said it was hers and she hadn't noticed us. How that's possible when we were practically on top of the table next to us I don't know. I thought a good waiter was always scanning their section? She said she was really busy so that's why she didn't notice us. Then she said she could take our order and said we had to put it all in right then -- drinks, starter, entree. Brusk, but OK, we could live with it. She said since it was 6:50 anything we ordered needed to come all at once -- we hadn't allowed enough time before our show to do otherwise so there wouldn't be time to serve us a starter first, then an entree. We said we had a 6:30 reservation and she said so you've been sitting here for 20 minutes? It was more of a "no, the customer isn't right" challenge. Again, not what I'd expect at a nice restaurant. In the end we had a delicious meal, made it to our show in time, and she became very friendly and normally attentive. But it was not a good start and didn't position Mercy well from a service POV.
Wonderful! The food was exceptional! The Paku Fish Ribs were unexpected and delicious. The Pork Chop and Scallops were perfectly cooked and deeply flavored. The service was very good overall, though they weren’t as attentive to the water bottle. We will DEFINITELY be going back!
Food was sub-par! Ordered the sirloin, crab claws, and sautéed vegetables. All were over priced and decent. Nothing to rave about. The crab claws came with a mayo-tarter sauce.... yuck. No cocktail sauce or even warm garlic butter. Sautéed vegetables were under seasoned and something I could have made at home. The sirloin was too rare and chard and hard to cut into on the outside.
Booked Reservations for 6 arrived at 550. Waitress came ordered drinks. Confirmed theater time of 730. Drinks were good. 710 no food. Potato was cold under cooked, Hamburger was cold, apple beet salad was V good. Ate quickly. They did adjust bill slightly. I will not go back. Again.
We have eaten here three times since we been staying on property; as far we have tried items from their breakfast, brunch, and dinner menu. Breakfast and brunch have been very delicious and satisfying! Though my only concern would be that the restaurant did not acknowledge us celebrating a birthday when I did put it in our brunch reservation.
Don't forget dessert! Their ice cream sandwich is amazing and can easily be split between two people. The one that I had was salted caramel ice cream with a chocolate cake. Their cocktail list is also great. I believe, but I could be wrong, that the cocktail program was started by an Eat Street Social alum. So you know it's good. Overall, a great place to go before a show and a great place for groups-- they can handle them.
Friendly service, but not especially fast. Food was good, not great. My duck came out lukewarm after a long wait. Shortly after we were served, waiters were warning others of a backup in the kitchen. All of this on a Sunday at 5:30. They need to take it up a notch.
We chose to eat at Mercy since it was across the street from the Orpheum and we had 6:30 theater tickets. We had a 5:00 dinner reservation and waited unusually long for the waitress to come and take our drink order. So when she arrived we placed our drink and dinner order right away. We ordered off their theater menu thinking those entrees would come up quickly. We had our salad by 5:30. But our dinner entrees didn't come until 6:05, so we felt rushed to eat so we could leave by 6:20. Our theater menu included a dessert, but they had to box it up because there was not enough time to eat it. The food was good, our waitress was fine, but we were very disappointed in the kitchen's service. It should not have taken that long to serve us our meals.
Great addition to the Hennepin Avenue restaurants and perfect spot for a nice meal across the street from the Orpheum Theatre. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly - answered questions about the menu and seemed excited to be there. Food was outstanding - great salads - got the Crab Grilled Cheese and their signature burger so we could each sample. Home made chips and spicy catsup. Will definitely be back!
Our salmon meals were good, roasted Brussels sprouts and wilted spinach salad first courses salty.
Pork and white bean soup excellent.
Service very nice, all 3 times we were there with elderly mother using a walker during our Theater evening and afternoon.
The restrooms needed attention with overflowing trash, empty soap dispensers.
Very convenient for theatre but I think I preferred previous restaurant in that space.
Great service, creative food, nice atmosphere. We stopped in after a matinee at the Orpheum across the street. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The menu has some creative dishes as well as familiar standbys. We had the shrimp and octopus ceviche and a crab grilled cheese. Both were really good! My son had a house made ice cream sandwich for dessert that was amazing. We'll definitely be back!
This is a restaurant which has changed names several times, and never seems to get its act together to have fabulous food. It's got a great location, right across the street from the Orpheum and only a block from the State Theater. I will probably go here again because of the location, but the food was good not great. Two of us had the Shepherds Pie and I had the crab and rice. The Shepherds Pie was a little thin I was told. And the crab was okay but I was hoping for more crab.
Great spot. Bailey, our server was knowledgeable about the menu....gave us good suggestions, "gave great service and got us out in time to make our concert"...the crab grilled cheese was wonderful, also tried the cheese burger (it was great and done to perfection) spinach salad was tasty, and buffalo fish was something we never tried before...was good! Oh and the ceviche was excellent!!! Will definitely go back and try more of the menu, a great fusion of Midwest comfort food and Florida flavors. Next time will try the mussels, they looked awesome.
Had a great meal here! The service was good, friendly and paid attention to our need to get to the theater.
The crab claws were fabulous! As were the French Fries. My friends shared a generous Pastrami sandwich which they said was scrumptious. Will definitely eat here again.
