Repeat guests...Excellent Brunch had the Prime Rib. Had dinner a few weeks ago not so good.
In many ways a mid-century fine-dining throwback. Wonderful cocktail and wine list, along with traditional menu selections such as shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, steak Diane, and beef Wellington. Melvyn’s also features many updated healthy selections too.
The service was not what we expected
I like that they keep older employees on the workforce. Fun to be surrounded by this age group for a change. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening, will definitely come back.
We had a wonderful time from beginning to end. Drinks were good, the staff was great! Our waiter,Peter was outstanding! Perfect place to celebrate sister Connie's 60th birthday! Thank you
Stick to what made you famous....the old standards. New escargot was tooooo much flour and no flavor. Beef Wellington needed more pate and cayenne as recipe calls for. And pastry crust was doughy. Vichyssoise had NO flavor. Too thick...seemed like, they made the medium sauce and forgot to add the cream.... Manhattan was good as was the chocolate martini for desert. Melvin would not be happy, and Dean , Frank, and Sammy would never hang out here with this idea of food. Chef needs to spend time at site until perfect or replaced. He was not even on property and is new??? Was a favorite but not any more
Absolutely outstanding service with a great and unique old-Hollywood atmosphere.
The first time my wife and I attended, the appetizer and my entree, I felt, were sub-par. However, in an extremely classy move, the manager reached out and personally invited my wife and I back, and I am pleased to report the entire experience was outstanding. My steak was perfectly done to medium-rare, and my wife's chicken and brussels sprouts were superb. The parmesan fries were heavenly. I also cannot praise the customer service enough; the waiters and the hosts are paragons of making you feel welcome and valued, and seem to genuinely want you to have a great experience.
I am happy to heartily recommend Melvyn's, and plan to make it a mandatory stop each time I am in the Palm Springs area.
Going back Saturday with friends with some friends flying in
Fun place! Service was great and the food was fantastic
Finally, a new chef has lifted the food to the level worthy of this institution in Palm Springs. Standouts during our dinner were the awesome chicken pot pie and the duck confit. The flavors were balanced and delicious and the technique and presentation were executed beautifully. Not just a place to experience old style service. The table side wilted spinach salad was perfectly prepared and the portion was VERY generous. Prices were actually quite reasonable for the level of service and cuisine. The only complaint was a table of obviously drunk people were seated 3/4 of the way through our meal and the volume of their shenanigans ruined the previously elegant atmosphere of the terrace. But, it's not the restaurant's fault. Highest recommendation!!
From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel special.
The food, service and ambiance were all first class.
It truly was a memorable evening
Matt, the Matre De, escorted us to a lovely table. The seats were extremely comfortable.
It was my birthday and the Chef prepared a delicious panna cotta - complete with birthday candle, for dessert.
Incredible as always. Never disappoints w the classic Palm Springs vibe like no other and great food
Wonderful location for dinner. Like an elegant classic restaurant from the past that was a consistent standby for a good time out. We had lovely, friendly, attentive service. The menu choices were suitable for all tastes. The food was very good and presented in a pleasing way. A place to go back to again and again.
This is my second visit and I was taking my sister for her birthday. We had the salmon and it was outstanding.
We received a warm welcome from the Maitre D’hotel, and it really went downhill from then, onwards.
Once seated and served water, we waited over 20
Minutes to be greeted by the waiter and be given menus.
The drink I ordered (gin and tonic with a splash of orange juice) was not correct.
The steak (peppercorn) was ordered medium-rare and was served well done.
The waiter advised that he thought it looked over-cooked (but served it anyway) and failed to apologize.
He was neither friendly, nor attentive.
They did not have cappuccino, but did have espresso (which seemed odd).
The restaurant was steady, but by no means overly busy.
The service absolutely ruined the experience, coupled with disappointing food.
I would not recommend this restaurant and will not return
Melvyn’s is a Palm Springs classic. Went there for the first time 38 years ago. Still the same... as it should be! Classic menu, amazing service.
The disinterested maitre d chews food as he shuffles you to your table. The limited menu while trying to be retro is just boring and uninspired. Good crab cakes and fries. Insipid Caesar salad. The staff all seems like they are sick of the place and the guests. Only the valet asked if we had enjoyed our dinner. The maitre d did not.
Old Hollywood lovely garden indoor patio dining for lunch
We had Steak Frites cooked to perfection and a wonderful bottle of Bell 2016 cabernet sauvignon
For dessert we had espresso and shared the delicious Butterscotch Budino the service was top rate as always. What a beautiful afternoon I highly recommend this rare gem.
We are never disappointed when we dine at Melvyn’s. The food and service are exceptional. Thank you!
Nice lunch in a nice setting. Fine service of excellent food! What more is there to say?
Loved everything about it. Highly recommend. Lovely night out.
The outdor table was just ok plus the temperature was either too hot or too cold. The service was ok and the food was just ok. For the price we thought the food could have been better.
Always a pleasure to dine here. This time we had Roberto as our server. He took excellent care of us. We also met a new manager, Joseph. It was a pleasure to speak with him about the changes as well as share our stories.
Thank you for making our anniversary memorable & incredibly enjoyable. We look forward to returning to our favorite restaurant in PS!
Amazing Table side preparation
Melvyn's is the place to go if you want to relive the 1950's dining experience. Waiters in tuxes. A maitre 'd who oozes class(from Minnesota). Great food. Wonderful entertainment in the bar. A unique experience that is very well done.
Went on the recommendation of a friend. Very charming. Fun to experience a slice of time from the olden days. Love the lounge! Our waiter was charming.
From maitre d' to service and food. Perfectly done. Noise level excessive in the bar due to guests who did not know how to behave. Everyone and everything was perfect.
We love going to Melvyn's on Sunday nights to hear the live music and then dine in the main dining room. Doesn't get more classic Palm Springs than this! The food and service is excellent and you always leave satisfied.
Extremely unhappy with the whole Melvyn experience!!!😧
It was new, it was old school, it is a classic, they are reinventing dishes - without a doubt, it is PALM SPRINGS! Thank you Bobby, you still have us talking days later!
The service and food were excellent. Our waiter Richard was the ultimate gentleman and an efficient server. The tables are a little close together so I was continually bumped by traffic. Prices are quite high, a bit too high on my opinion. The table side preparation is entertaining and the food very tasty.
We were seated next to a group of eight who were having fun but were making more noise than we would have liked. We were moved to another table but that server had just had another table seated in his section so it took him a while to get to us. All in all, however, it was a nice evening and I would go back.
We've had a good experience before, Saturday night the service was very slow, my steak was overcooked, another was underdone and was sent back never to be returned. It was a birthday celebration and that was not acknowledged. I will say that the manager comped some the meal.
Even though we had reservations we had the worst table in the place. Everyone had comfortable chairs but us. Got our bill and what we were charged did not reflect the price on the menu. Food was okay. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive. The bus staff was. Would not revisit this restaurant.
“Gray” filet mignon is not medium. Uncooked Cold baby “carrots” as a garnish. Better options for the price.
We enjoyed reparte with Brian, who greeted us in the lobby.
From the moment we entered, we were treated as royalty! We were early for our reservation and agreed it was just as Wonderful as before!
Up until now, I’ve been a big fan of Melvyn’s, but this visit was mediocre. Waiter was overloaded. He told us up front he had too many tables. Menu lacked any exciting choices and there was only one special. While the escargot was outstanding, the steak Diane was over cooked and dry. The cheesecake at the end was great, but overall I just had to downgrade my previous rating.
From the valet guys to the host to the waiter service was excellent. The Food, in the past you could get mediocre fare, that's definitely over, the Food was Incredible!!
Broken glass with glass flying onto the table
Bad response from staff Disbelief that the glass could fly so far.
3 over cooked steaks.
Drunk patron accosted one of us.
Had to request help from staff, though they were watching the interaction and didn’t move to help us.
A disappointment for all of us.
