Outstanding service and ambiance... drinks are exceptional and truly takes you back to the classic times of Palm Springs.
We’d love to see the salad trio back on the menu.
Thank you for the amazing service and dining experience. Was perfect for celebrating my post Half Ironman victory!!
Attentive and friendly staff. Ambiance is wonderful.
Love eating in the dining room on Bobby's night. He makes the evening. All the staff are courteous and for the most part have been there for many years. Each time I am in the Palm Springs area, Melyn's is my dinner choice on my last night in town.
We were thrilled that our 46 year old son and his friend enjoyed it very much. They were reluctant to go to a place chosen by the "old fogies".
Visited the piano bar last year and decided to check out the restaurant this year. Wonderful atmosphere of restaurants from years ago. Staff was polite and respectful and very welcoming. Good variety of food options. Food was delicious and fresh
We were seated at a table by the kitchen, so that may have kept us from truly enjoying the evening. Our waiter was great. The tableside prepared spinach salad was very good. My scallops were good. The Steak Diane was fun to watch, but not that flavorful. It is a fun experience for retro dining. The Manhattans were some of the best we have ever had.
Was great Loved History old school ! Incredible Service !
Have been going here for years but frankly it was the worst experience. Lipstick on my wine glass, the bus boy sat my big leftover bag in the middle of the table between us, we had to send both desserts back (bananas were raw, the other was frozen). They at least made good on the desserts but we’re not rushing back.
Wonderful food and service in an atmosphere of years ago.
Very nice experience, Bobby our waiter was fantastic and very attentive.
Great piano bar. The staff are all smiles and friendly. The food was exceptional. Certain dishes are prepared at your table. The wilted spinach salad was wonderful.
Will keep going back
We were seated promptly. Good food, had the sole. Also, wilted spinach salad was very good, bacon could have been crisper but flavor was great. Waiter Robert was very professional and congenial.
Food was ok. My escargot was burnt (fist time in my life that I have seen burnt escargot). Or perhaps it was under the heater light too long. A dinner salad no longer comes with your meal. Service was very slow and inattentive. The interior has improved and nicely done.
We were overall unimpressed
We were disappointed in our dining experience here. We came specifically for the Grand Marnier Soufflé only to discover that they no longer serve that. While the Chocolate Soufflé tasted okay, it couldn't compete with the Grand Marnier one. The escargot was served barely hot when it should have been sizzling. The filet Mignon and the sea bass were good. The sides were also good. But overall, it wasn't the fantastic experience we've had in the past. Bring back the Grand Marnier Soufflé and we may come back.
The evening was in honor of our 51st anniversary. We began with a champagne cocktail (leave it to an "old time" establishment to do them right), had delightful main dishes and finished with table side cherries jubilee. We were seated in Frank Sinatra's favorite booth and treated royally.
Birthday .. very nice atmosphere.. easy to visit .. not loud very peaceful
I absolutely loved my experience at Melvin's! The Ambiance was outstanding and the service was Top Notch. We sat in the outdoor dining area and truly enjoyed the view.. My favorite place that they sat us was a two-person booth that was very comfortable and great for looking out at the gorgeous scenery. The only negative of Melvyn's was that we had requested in advance in writing through open table that it was my friend's birthday and asked if we could have a desert. Unfortunately, they did not bring a birthday dessert.
The food was delicious but the service was lacking. It took 20 mins to get our drinks after sitting down and at least 40 mins to get our food after ordering. Overall we were there for 2.5 hours and not by choice.
Amazing! I had not been to this restaurant since the 70's. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is top notch. The restaurant does an excellent job of separating the piano bar from the restaurant area. Can't wait to go back.
Melvyn's is quintiscential"old school," and, in this case, I mean VERY old (and VERY GOOD) school. The servers are experienced - and have been experienced for decades. Catering to people of grace in their 60s and 80s, many tables often have multi-generations, all of whom are enjoying the romantic ambience of the "glitter era" in Palm Springs. We love it here!
We had the distinct pleasure of being served by Bobby, a forty year veteran and institution of the restaurant. Every item, escargot, fried Brie, sea scallops, steak Diane and chocolate semifreddo was exquisite.
We made our reservations over 3 weeks in advance for 6:00pm - standard seating, Not the Patio. We were called one week in advance and were notified that the had to many reservations at 6:00 and would we consider 2:00 or 4:00. We called and explain no we wanted to keep our original reservation. We arrived in suit and ties, ready to dine and we were directed to our table in the brightly lite patio, with patio chairs that are to lounge not to dine in. I explained this was not our request and we were then directed to a more suitable dining location with in the dining room. Dinner and service was great as expected. Surprised that cocktails had gone up so much since our previous visit only a couple of months prior. Our martinis went from 11.00 to 18.00 each. Oh well. Upon leaving we realized that we had no cash for the valet. 5.00. No one would assist us in running a charge for the 5.00 for the valet. When asked if the establishment had an atm on sight the host took me outside to directed me to the bank two blocks away. Had to walk to and from leaving my husband in the car as they would not release it without payment. Overall not the best service or experience. We’ll think twice about returning again, this was a favorite spot.
They sat us in a back room away from anything. Not so exciting.
I believe they have a new chef, and her cooking was just amazing! I think it was one of the best Thanksgiving meals ive ever had. The staff was professional, the martinis were great, I would definitely go back!
Our waiter ruled, Reese With-a-Knife, jokes for days, fantastic experience.
Fantastic Thanksgiving dinner. Food was outstanding. Service was impeccable. Ambience was relaxing and comforting. Enjoyed our day immensely.
Fantastic experience from start to finish
We had a reservation for 2000 hours. We arrived at 1930 but had to wait until 2025 to be seated. My wife had the grilled salmon dish which was supposed to come with hot vegetables and potatoes, but instead was served with a cold salad. I had the pasta special. It tasted good but later gave me a stomach ache and caused me to defecate diarhrea in my sleep, soiling the bed.
From the moment we walked in the door, we knew were going to have an amazing experience. The host was quite knowledgeable and charming. The service was excellent, and the food--just amazing. I felt like a movie star, dining where the stars dined. My husband had the special (a pasta with Marscapone cheese and Italian sausage) while I had the steak au poivre. It was a delight to watch them prepare the sauce for my steak, which tasted absolutely divine. Everything was cooked to perfection. We will definitely return on our next trip to Palm Springs.
We have been to the restaurant many times, but our brunch on Sunday was disappointing. My omelet was warm and very dry. The potatoes were overcooked. My husband had the medallions of poached salmon. The eggs were cooked perfectly, but the salmon was overcooked. The restaurant was not busy when we received our orders, so I'm not sure what happen.
Melvyns is one of the best restaurants in the Palm Springs area. You can't go wrong. Love the cherries jubilee
Excellent service. My husband had the eggs Benedict which he thought were the best he ever had. I had the short rib hash which was also quite good. Ambience not bad either.
Old school restaurant with old school wait staff
We had a great time
The chicken pot pie my husband had was edible but nothing really beyond that, very little chicken or vegetables, more mushy than he would have liked and expected. My sole in butter and lemon was acceptable. The service and ambiance of the restaurant are lovely.
Surprisingly, service was mediocre on this visit. My dinner was less than outstanding which I had come to expect from this restaurant. Usually extraordinary, this visit was a bit of a disappointment.
We had a fantastic time the other night. Bobby did a great job but wish he would had stopped long enough to tell us a story or two from his 42 years at Melvins'. Loved the new look in the dinning room. Great greeting from the Maitre'd!
The lunch menu was uninteresting. The server we had was fantastic, on point for everything. The food was not memorable.
