Though we'd recently just been, when we heard that restaurant dining was being temporarily suspended, due to Covid, we knew we had one last chance to dine out for the next several weeks -- so we returned to Melvyn's! Melvyn's continues to be one of the best restaurants in the area, and their "gracious, casual (yet sophisticated) charm is evident everywhere - decor, reception, seating, all aspects of the dining room, and the entire dining experience.
Whether you're in the mood for nostalgia reminiscent of the rat-pack days or a contemporary gracious dining experience, you'll find it at Melvyn's. As an extra delight, the ambiance is just busy enough to be reminded that it is a popular destination, but there remains an opportunity for a quiet, private conversation to take place at a comfortable volume and tone.
When the Covid curtain is lifted, we'll be among the first to book Melvyn's, again! And again, and again, and again...
Piano player was wonderful, our food was amazing. Loved the after dinner Melvyn’s coffee. Thank you for a great night.
We popped into Melvins for a much needed Sunday reprieve after a few long weeks of busy work lives. What an amazing little Oasis! From the time we arrived for our reservation, we were promptly seated at our select table, enjoyed service staff that were beyond attentive, but never intrusive to amazing food quality and flowing bubbles during champagne brunch. We were saddend to hear that only after a few short weeks, they would be closing temporarily again due to current covid regulations. Robert our server was amazing and gracious and I do hope he and the rest of the team hold on a bit longer until we g3t through this. Can't wait to come back and enjoy their company again soon!
Service was outstanding, menu was small due to Covid and seating was outside in tent, which can be a bit loud. Food was solid and overall a very good experience. Will try again after covid to get the full experience.
Melvyn's continues as one of the "classiest" restaurants in the Coachella Valley, and given that they are able to offer outdoor seating, perhaps the only "old school" (respectfully!) establishment in Palm Springs. Though there have been adjustments over the years, the sophistication, friendly elegance, and attentive setting and service ensure that it remains at its finest.
We love going to Melvyn's and we have been going there since the kid 70s. Melvyn's never disappoints. We had the steak Diane. It was outstanding; the steak was very tender with plenty of mushrooms. I highly recommend the shrimp cocktail appetizer. The shrimp are jumbo and they tasted like the came from the Gulf of Mexico whose shrimp is more flavorful than Pacific Ocean shrimp. I loved being serenaded by the piano player while we dined.
Always an amazing experience . Never take a trip to Palm Springs without a visit to Melvyns
In light of the fact that we are in COVID restrictions, it was very pleasant to sit on the "patio" and dine at Melvyns with the piano player giving us beautiful music.
Cannot wait to get back inside for some fun times in the bar and my favorite oysters and caeser salad!
So much for the iconic Melvyn's! We went there for Sunday brunch. There were six items on the menu to choose from. My husband decided on the overpriced 2 eggs and 2 bacon strips. Unknown to him, they came with tater tots (really??) and no toast. And the cost for this?? $22.00! Totally outrageous!
Great live music and good covid safe precautions taken.
We had a wonderful evening the food and service or a great
We miss Bobby and the formal table captains. Wedge salad, Caesar salad, pot pie and salmon we all delicious well presented. My wife thought the crust on the pot pie was the best pastry she had ever tasted. The cherry’s jubilee was delectable. The best tasting cherry dessert I have ever had.
As all ways, my experience was outstanding. The piano player added another plus to my
dinning experience. Superb ......
The fountain and the soft ambiance music made for a delightful evening.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food. Friendly staff
This is the second year I’ve come for thanksgiving dinner and it was top notch once again. Even during the pandemic and restrictions it was amazing service and amazing food. Thank you.
What a fantastic Thanksgiving. Food couldn’t be better and our waiter Peter was the best!
We went for Thanksgiving dinner, the meal was terrible, the Chef should be embarrassed by what we were served! The turkey was over cooked and dried out, the stuffing was dry and inedible, the Brussels sprouts were over cooked and mushy, the only passable item on the dinner plate were the potatoes.
No one asked why my plate returned to the kitchen almost full; this was an incredibly disappointing experience!
Melvyns is one of our favorite places to dine in Palm Springs. It was also a favorite of Frank Sinatra’s And featured prominently in the documentary on Mr Sinatra’s life in Palm Springs.
The food. The service. The ambiance is fantastic.
And despite the fact that our Open Table reservation was confused due to the holiday the fantastic staff at Melvyns made it work. Emily thank you so much for your kindness and professionalism.
John. Joseph and Matthew.
Music was wonderful, food was delicious and staff was spot on!
A beautiful ambiance, delicious food and wonderful service!
Went to Melvyn’s for my husband’s birthday. Had our cocktails, relaxed & enjoyed the music. When our meals came, wow! They were sooo good! We were very pleased with our selection.
The "patio dining option" at Melvyn's is wonderful! A sensible, upscale menu, elegantly presented in a "dressy, but casual" environment, with an outstanding kitchen and professionally served. SO refined; so warm; so wonderful! In every way! Yay, for Melvyn's!
Great time celebrating a birthday at Melvyn’s. The outdoor/tented seating was beautiful. Food and service, excellent. The evening was sealed with a wonderful piano player. Thank you!
A Palm Springs institution. Great vibe, elegant setting, good food and perfect service. Icing on the cake is the great entertainment provided by pianist Mikael Healey.
I love the ambiance of Melvyns . The outside dining area was so tranquil. We sat by the water fountain which gave us a relaxed feel. The food , wine and service were great . My favorite place in the desert!
Granted, it's COVID-time, so our expectations were not huge, but...
Their "famous" chicken pot pie was full of undercooked (crunchy!) vegetables. The short ribs were good.
The service was iffy, at best. We had ordered a loaf of bread to munch on, since dinner was taking quite awhile to arrive - right, at $9. - apparently they are not aware MANY restaurants offer bread gratis? Anyway, it finally arrived after the entrees had been served. When we complained about the delay, the server argued with us, saying it had to be specially baked for us! The heaters in the rigged-up patio weren't working, so it was cold. Seating was uncomfortable. Martini was small and weak. It was not a good evening for Melvyn's - or for us. In fact, it felt like a big waste of money!
It was an amazing experience. We had a lovely dinner.
Classic Palm Springs restaurant that has been around for years. Still great and always a scene.
The host was awful.
The waiter couldn’t wait to get rid of us and we were guests!
The food was OK
I would have rather spent 140.00 somewhere else!
First Date
Fabulous from start to finish! Loved the food, ambience, and the service was impeccable!
Melvyn’s remains our go-to place to celebrate our anniversary. We enjoyed the food and service. We miss Brian, and the waiters who understood fine dining, but it’s still a great place.
We’ve been there several times before. But this time was terrible both of us ordered the same thing and we both got sick. Steak Diane. My steak was very fatty so I didn’t even end up hardly eating any. The side of the potatoes were hard, they needed to be cooked more. Just wasn’t happy. My Cesar salad was the only good thing.
We had a wonderful trip at this historic and classic place. We were served on the covered patio for a 6 pm reservation. Socially distanced perfectly. Table for 2: we ordered a classic Ceasar and a wedge salad for starters. We did not order any sides but they looked yummy. I had the Day Boat Scallops. Some of the best I've had in a long time. My frie d had the Steak Diane! Wonderful former Rat Pack hang out! Enjoy!
David, our server was AWESOME. Food was great, service was excellent! Thank you Melvyns.
Although due to covid we were in the patio only. It was beautiful and welcoming. We loved the live music and the food.
Worst service to date, Brandon should not be in the service industry. He’s rude, slow and doesn’t care..
Fabulous food, service and ambience. Had a wonderful old school charm.
Melvyn's is everything we could want: a great experience that's a throwback to the old days in Palm Springs when dining was upscale. The service is impeccable, and it's clear they take great care of their staff (many have been there with Melvyn's for years). They have really stepped up and made everything safe for diners. The menu is simple and delicious.
There's live music on the weekends. White linens, low lights...you feel like Frank Sinatra could walk through the door any minute.
We were allowed to bring our well-behaved Frenchie to the out door patio. They even checked with us to make sure the seats were OK with us.
Looking forward to when the bar re-opens!
This is the most wonderful restaurant to go to in Palm Springs, either for lunch or dinner. It's been our go-to favorite for years. We love to hear Mikael Healey on piano and they treat you like you're Sinatra!!
