Disappointing and food is extremely overpriced
Wonderful food and service. However the restaurant was empty except for about 8 people dining. Their website advertised live music but that wasn’t there. Maybe it’s just the pandemic but I felt we were dining in sone remote area with not much human contact
Beautiful place. Nice service. Food was very good, but extremely tight menu.
The level and quality of service is fantastic, and the menu is full of the classics. I wish more restaurants were like Melvyn's.
Lively bar scene and beautiful outdoor dining. Service was a bit off. Jose, our server, explained the chicken pot pie was delayed. Our food arrived warm, not hot. Food preparation was excellent. When server appeared at our table after we had finished our meal a staff person said ‘are you done eating?’ Not the phrase that should be used. A long wait for us to be asked if we wanted dessert. An even longer wait for our bill. Disappointed in the service. We had a much better experience last April.
Food was very very mediocre last night….especially the Pasta Bolognese….temp of the food was barely warm and noodles were over cooked. Very, very disappointing. Filet was bland and seemed quite small even for a 6oz…..
Overall experience was very disappointing and it will be sometime before we return. We (group of 4) avid foodies and dine out 5X per week.
Great service and food in an elegant setting
From the moment you arrive you are experiencing a class act. Tito our “Table Master” was terrific. You’ve got a jewel there, he’ll make your restaurant sparkle as he did for us. We’ll be back and we want Tito’s table.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT, we have been Melvyn’s fans for years and every time in town it was a must — but, things have changed. We had filet, New York, duck and chicken pot pie on a scale 0-10 a 4 is being very generous. Dessert was the final disappointment.
Servers bumped back of chair all night because tables are so close together.
Did away with small dance floor in lounge so they could get more tables in ☹️
A very good example of what happens when a big corporation takes over. Sadly, we will miss the Melvyn’s we used to know.
What a wonderful place to celebrate your birthday! Thanks to all the staff.😊
Food far below prior visits
great restaurant, food, drinks, service are excellent! Classic old time Palm Springs Restaurant. definitely a recommend!!!
Great food and service…loved the atmosphere
Great anniversary dinner
We were celebrating our 2 year anniversary- the food, ambiance and service were perfection!
Special sea bass ordered by whole table and was really good. Waiter same as before and recognized us as we bring out-of-towners there as our favorite dose of old Palm Springs, and it's really good.
Excellent meal and atmosphere! We can see why it was one Frank’s favorites. Only sorry we didn’t discover it sooner.
It is always an elegant evening when dining at Melvyn's! We are never disappointed. On this visit, I tried the Beef Wellington and it blew me away! Perfectly flakey pastry with perfectly cooked beef and a delicious sauce...paired with whipped sweet potatoes and root vegetables. The portion was so big, my husband and I split the left over half for lunch the next day! Always make a reservation at Melvyn's when in the Greater Palm Springs area...
Been a while since I've eaten at Melvyn's. Better than I remember it, but still not a 5-star place for food. Excellent service, hostess was very nice about letting us move to a better table. The oysters were briny, but a little on the small side. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, but not very substantial for the price. In fact, all the prices felt high for what we were served. But the ambience is as good as ever, good energy and the piano bar is still such a great experience. I still recommend it to friends and visitors.
Whenever we are in Palm Springs, we try to dine at Melvin’s. The food and service is always consistent. However this time we noticed they have made improvements as well: my chicken pot pie was even better than I’ve had in the past. The crust was exceptional and the chicken and vegetables baked inside were even tastier than I’ve had in the past. Melvin’s continues to be at the top of our list when in PS.
Fixed price menu did not offer enough choices. Turkey dinner did not come with mashed potatoes! Had to pay $12 for a side. Stuffing was dry and boring. Also no bread was served. We asked for bread and later saw we were charged $9 for the bread. Squash soup was delicious. Pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie were excellent. Our server, Brendan was wonderful. Very attentive despite being very busy. Cocktails were delicious.
There was no gravy or potatoes with Thanksgiving dinner. The stuffing was barely more than dry bread crumbs. The turkey was very salty. The cheesecake was still frozen and the pecan pie was almost frozen. Worst meal we have ever had there. Not what we expected for $89! Very disappointing.
Excellent food and service!
Wonderful ambiance. Service was impeccable. Food was not great. We were there for Thanksgiving dinner 2021. Turkey was dry. Stuffing was just crumbs...like what you would see at the bottom of a store bought breadcrumb mix....we would have needed a spoon to eat it. No mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving!
An adult restaurant with terrific service, food and ambience. We go whenever we are in Palm Springs.
The ambience was very nice. It was a little loud, because the restaurant was full. But that did not stop us from having a good time.
Our waiter, Scot, was professional, but that is the best that could be said. He was extremely aloof and although he did his job, he did not engage at all or smile even once, despite us trying to have a nice time with him.
As for the food, it was a mixed bag. The cream spinach was a delightful surprise and superb. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, but you would expect that from a steakhouse. My friend had the Seabass which was terribly overcooked and pretty much flavorless. The escargot was mediocre, at best. But the risotto was fantastic.
So as I say, a really mixed review. For the price, I probably won’t go back anytime soon. But at least I can say I have been there.
We were celebrating our 29th anniversary and from the moment we arrived, they were warm and congratulated us on our anniversary. The staff was attentive but not intrusive and the food and atmosphere were great. It’s a good place for a nice celebration.
Great ambiance- service a bit shoty -slow and not very attentive for this type of dining and price- food is just OK nothing to crave going back for unfortunately ..
Incredible birthday dinner at this timeless classic. Food and ambiance were perfect!
Food was good, but I was surprised the filet mignon was tiny and didn’t come with any sides. Want potatoes or veggies? Extra charge. Had the duck, and 2 orders of filet mignon, one drink, one soup. Price was like $240 …not a good value once you think about it .
We had a great time! Truly memorable. Thanks!
Really nice food, and club like, intimate environment. Feels very upscale.
We wanted to get lunch before going to a friend's wedding so we needed to find a place where we weren't coming in looking overdressed. We were driving in from LA so we didn't have time to come in in casual clothes or change after for the wedding. Well, we were still overdressed but the ambiance was nice that we didn't feel out of place. Loved the service and food, and the environment was relaxing. Parking is very limited but it was such a nice lunch. We enjoyed ourselves.
we asked to take home the rest of our Butcher Board and they dumped the rest of the fig spread in the container covering bread, cheese, and nuts! We stupidly assumed they had a small container for that or would ask "do you want the jam in the box too?" But the duck was outstanding!
Excellent, delicious food, served by a professionally trained staff in a beautiful, comfortable setting.
Great cocktails and deli soups bits from an extensive menu. The service is top notch and the people watching is amazing.
Truly a neighborhood gem, great food, attentive staff. A bit of Old Palm Springs that can never be replicated.
The waiter was terrific. Friendly and informative. Food was delicious! Love the ambiance
We started by sharing the wedge salad, which was good, but we both agreed that the dressing had an odd spicy taste we weren’t used to. My fiancé had the chicken pot pie, which had lots of chicken, but could have been creamier. I had the beef Wellington, which was excellent. We finished with cherries jubilee and shared a limoncello. Both were great. There was always someone there to fill water glasses and remove plates. Our server, Veronica, was friendly, efficient and professional. One critique is that the music coming from the bar area is way too LOUD.
