Fantastic food, great service, and great atmosphere. Bar area is nice and on Friday evening enjoyed piano music. The chicken pot pie is so delish! Staff is friendly and attentive. Will definitely visit again!

Melvyn's is always a lovely experience. The beautiful dining room is perfect for a romantic meal. We especially enjoyed hearing the piano music drifting in from the bar last night. The food is always prepared and served with perfection. We're so happy they don't close for the summer.

An expensive and mildly heartless reimagining of a once iconic Palm Springs experience. Good food; excellent live music. …I’ll still go back - it’s romantic. Can’t help myself.

Had an amazing meal. Table side service was phenomenal! The drinks…THE DRINKS were just delicious. Get the martini. My meat eating friends all loved their meals. I was able to eat vegan and still had delicious choices. Our waiter Aaron(sp?) Did an amazing job. Highly recommend.

Was really excited to try but the experience was really lackluster and disappointing. I enjoyed walking in to such a lovely atmosphere. The outdoor patio section is really beautiful. Unfortunately our server was really inattentive. He seemed to be preoccupied and laser-focused on just one of his tables and impossible to find. We finally got to throw in our order after having been sat for over 29 minutes. When he did come to our table, he seemed uninterested and just really unhappy to be there- that didn’t make our experience welcoming. The food didn’t really impress in anyway. The chicken pot pie was more like chicken soup. It was drowning in broth. The risotto was too thick- it tasted like glue. The wagyu burger wasn’t great. It was put together in a bun that tasted like sawdust. I ordered a medium rare burger- and it was brought well done. I didn’t get a chance to ask for a properly cooked burger because we never saw our waiter again until the end of our meal. I think the fries were good and that’s about it. Won’t be returning again which is a real bummer. Not sure if they reserve their dazzle for their regulars- but the whole experience was mediocre.

Disappointing return to Melvin's. Service was poor: slow, servers bumping into chairs as they passed by, took a long time to get server to take cocktail order. When food came out the guys delivering food just put down and didn't ask who had what leaving us to pass around hot plates. I understand staffing issues during COVID but they could take a little time to train. The main waiters are the ones that have been there for years. On top of all that, they have REALLY jacked up prices (as have most other restaurants unfortunately): steaks a la carte are $60-$75, desserts are $18! Earlier this year they had delayed raising prices but now have caught up and exceeded most places. At this price point ans service level I will not be returning. Sad as it has been on our list of reliable restaurants for many years.

I’ll start with if you’re looking for the old world charm of a vintage steak house this is the place. Great decor and ambiance. For the money we spent I would have expected some entertainment. No complaints on the service at all, very attentive and quick! Our drinks were very good! Sides were great (bread was piping hot with good soft whipped butter, baked potato excellent, market carrots amazing, mushrooms good, french fries good). I ordered the rib eye, I am a steak junkie, and it didn’t feel like a rib eye. Very thick, hardly any marbling, and was cooked medium when I asked for media well. It was good but not great. The bananas flambé was on point! However, our bill for 4 people was over $500 without tip. Very pricey otherwise a great experience.

Our entire experience from driving up to the valet through the end of our evening was superb. We arrived a few minutes early but were offered early seating. The host guided us to the perfect table tucked away a quiet corner. The waiter was so attentive and really listened when we said we wanted to enjoy a leisurely evening. He offered us drinks and then gave us space. We were never rushed and were allowed to proceed at our own pace. the wedge salad and french onion soup were amazing. Our waiter offered to split the salad onto two plates so we could more easily share our starters. Another round of drinks were ordered as we decided on our main courses. I ordered the petite filet au poivre with a loaded baked potato and the birthday boy ordered the chicken pot pie. Both were superb. Finally, we decided to order dessert. The cherries jubilee was prepared tableside but not before the birthday boy was presented with a berry flan with a lit candle. This was a very nice touch as I only mentioned the birthday when I booked the dinner through Open Table. Two cappuccinos were the perfect accompaniment with the deserts. All in all, it was the perfect evening. We will most definitely return.

Lovely welcome, but the cocktails we ordered were simply lousy. Not cold enough martini and a Hemingway Daiquiri that was tasteless and lackluster. When I went to the bar asking for a new one I was made to feel like a jerk. The server even made a snarky comment after I’d sat down. Portions are tiny.

We’ve been going to Melvyn’s for Sunday brunch for about 15 years. Over the years we have seen the restaurant decline in offerings: originally unlimited champagne was included in the price of the entrees, now $25 pp; muffins and fruit included, now none; formerly Cobb salad was a delicious traditional Cobb, now made with Arugula and features four grilled U6 shrimp — not what I would ever order again; used to feature all sorts of entrees featuring eggs Benedict, now three. Service is still wonderful and attentive as is the ambiance. Might come back, but hope the menu goes back to a more traditional offering for this historical, traditional eatery.

Atmosphere was nice, not too many people. Our servers were nice and attentive. Appetizers were great. Entrees, not so much. I had the Wagyu burger and it was really good. My friends had NY strip and the Steak Frites, which was also a NY strip. Both were asked to be cooked medium, they were both served well done. My friend that had the NY strip did not send it back because she was hungry. The steak from Steak Frites meal was sent back (after the server dissected to confirm it’s wellness 🙄). Another was brought out and it was bloody rare. It was also sent back. An experienced chef should know how to proper cook all types of meats. This was not the case. We had dessert, 2 crème brûlées and bananas Foster. The bananas Foster was really good! However, the crème brûlées both had a grainy texture and lacked flavor.

Times are tough, we get it, but this was probably the lowest I have scored Melvyn's thus far, as we love to normally dine here. It was an off night, and we were sat way in the back with a large party of 10 gentlemen and a group of ladies celebrating a 50th birthday. The ambiance in the back was not so great, and we should have asked to move. The servers are always nice, and it's not their fault I am sure, but the servers were just too busy, and always a few steps behind.. not the end of the world, in these times. Our wedge salad had gross brown piece of avocado on it, so we only at half after tasting that aspect, as it was bad and the taste still lingered. The worse part of the evening was that one member of the party of ladies, had her credit card misplaced by the server. I get why she would be upset, but they did eventually find it. Alas, it became the focus of the evening in that area of the restaurant, and they started complaining, evening mentioning we were getting better service across the room because we were male, along with the other large table. They weren't happy, and it became very negative, but really delayed us getting our check settled to get out of the restaurant. I am sure they had their reasons, especially after the card misplacement, and I guess they weren't offered desert as well. We ordered ours in the beginning, thus were weren't delayed for the last course. Again, the servers had good intentions, we just learned a lot of lessons of what not to do should we visit again. Probably just a bad night at Melvyns, and I am sure things will get better.

Horrible service. Ignored for half the night with my girlfriends but two tables full of men were fully taken care of. Lost or credit card. Dinner took 2.5 hours with NO dessert even offered. 3 hours later still waiting for check everyone around is gone. Food was sub par. Oysters awful, escargot awful, caesar barely passable. Don't waste your money.

Melvyn's is definitely a throw-back and homage to the Rat Pack -- but in a tastefully modern way. Inside is dark and moody, but not in a drab way. It's chic, with a definite Palm Springs vibe. The bar is lively and beautifully lit. Staff was professional and on top of their game/service. The food was outstanding. Had the petite filet, perfectly prepared. I had the peppercorn sauce, and it was something from heaven! Drinks and dessert were well made and tasty. Walked out feeling satiated, but not like I overindulged. Everything was quality, and it was a lovely evening of celebrating. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Disappointing experience. The restaurant wasn’t that busy, yet the service was terrible. The one exception was the waiter who poured water. He should be promoted and our actual waiter should be demoted to pouring water. We ordered steak Diane sauce (a signature offering), but our waiter didn’t start preparing the sauce until some 7+ minutes after our steaks were served. By the time the sauce was finally prepared and served to us -some 10 to 12 minutes after our steaks were served -we had already begun eating our steaks because we didn’t want to eat cold food. Again, the restaurant wasn’t busy, yet service was horrible. If the service we experienced at Melvin’s last evening is the standard, Melvin’s best days are long past.

The best thing about Melvins is the music in the bar. A great piano player and vocalist. The staff in the bar is awesome as well. The dining staff is average. Server gave us an option of sparkling or still but not just filtered so assumed the still was complimentary but charged us $8. Five small pieces of shrimp for $24. They used to be large like prawns but smaller and more expensive now. The MP fish was small for $68. We brought in a special bottle of wine for my husbands birthday and it was $35 for a corkage fee. Very expensive for a corkage fee especially when the server was never around to refill our wine. My husband did it every time. Never an acknowledgment of my husbands birthday even though it was on my reservation and I told the host as well. Bottom line I felt like the server treated us like we were cheap because we brought in our own wine but it was my husband favorite and it wasn't a bottle they offer there. 1 appetizers and 2 dinners cost us $200 and my husband got chicken. Usually most restaurants will offer even just a small dessert to say happy birthday but not here. Very disappointing experience. We've been to Melvyns several times but next time we'll just go to the bar for their fabulous martinis and music. For the quality and quanity of the food it is just way overpriced and not the best service

We’ve been fans of Melvyn’s for as long as we have lived here - 6 years. Except for our unhappiness and disappointment with the 2 years plus between Brian and John. NOW we are both super happy dinners, especially on Sundays and for special occasions. The menu has improved from Z to A. We are trying to try everything new or interpreted by the excellent new Chef who knows what he is doing! The Chicken Pot Pie is NOT a disappointment, but getting the toasty top browned without being blackened is not an easy task. The dough used was excellent, but I will ask next time, for a more browned top. The contents were a dream of a perfect cream sauce, full of flavor from the chicken to the vegetables, that happily were swimming in a divine cream sauce. This past Sunday, we brought friends who had not returned to Melvyn’s, since the Newson group took over. They loved the new choices and will be returning soon. We all had a wonderful Brunch or lunch. My smoked lox sandwich was spectacular! One friend had THE sandwich, and loved it, Jay had the omelette which I had recently, now we both loved it! Only a talented Chef could make this perfect omelette. The taste was smooth and non “eggy”! Not everyone can cook to perfection, but this was telling me, there are more items on to try! I have a feeling there may be more available Sundays for us at Melvyn’s! Love the staff, but Denise gets our heart. What a treasure she is!

The restaurant was closed when we arrived last night and it was my partners birthday. We chose this restaurant particularly for this reason. I would at least have expected a call to say the restaurant was closed. Awful customer service.
