LA's newest craft cocktail speakeasy also serving a global menu of tapas
A hidden gem of the Melrose Art District
THE SETTING -
Picture this.. A minimalistic style speakeasy hidden away somewhere within a train station in Prohibition era.. With modern contemporary touches.

Loved the atmosphere here! The staff was very friendly and polite
Absolutely amazing vide at the place. The true speakeasy feeling comes true when you enter a secret door and find yourself in an entirely different area of the hookah bar. The drinks and food were incredible, al though a little pricey. I will be returning again.
Weird choice in music for a speakeasy. Nice venue but music was that of a loud “club”.
Love it. It’s such a vibe and the wine is great
Great experience! Wonderful atmosphere, and amazing cocktails
Best cocktails I’ve had in LA
Very Different but good experience
Best hidden cocktail lounge. Great to start any night. Service is impeccable. Every drink is amazing you'll want to try them all. Light bites are perfect.
Not your typical space for the area. Nice for drinks... FOOD, NOT SO MUCH!!!!!
Very cool place. We liked the confusing entrance situation. :)
Really nice people, good cocktails and the food was delicious. First time after a long while that I ate a really fresh salad!
For Valentine’s Day, Melrose Station did a Prix Fixe menu that seemed really good. My partner and I were there for dessert and a drink a piece and luckily the restaurant was able to accommodate our request.
Drinks are great, food was fabulous, our waitress was attendant but not overbearing and was great for answering our questions. The vibe is excellent and they set out (fake) roses for the day in question. Only negative is it’s definitely pricey (their speciality cocktails start at $14 and go up) but their prix fixe (which includes a glass of wine) was quite reasonable.
Love it here, this is the second year in a row we’ve done Valentine’s Day and we’ll likely do it again next year!
Ambience was perfeft for our special night. The staff was on point, from the hookah entrance all the way inside The Melrose Station. Our waitress was very attentive and her drink recommendations became our new favorite. Will definitely be returning.
One of my favorite speakeasies in the city. Love the ambiance and service is always attentive and kind. Also appreciate inventive cocktails, like the fogged drink served in an orb/sphere! Such a fun place to bring friends, co-workers, a date, or out-of-towners. Love it!
Drinks and service were great. A fun date spot!
I visited this place along with two others this past weekend based upon Yelp Reviews. Although I had reservations for a specific day and time, we were asked to wait outside for about 10 minutes before being allowed in. Not a huge deal, but when I mentioned that we had reservations to the bouncer guy- he rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, well it's full in there so doesn't really matter if you do." The cocktails we ordered were ok. Maybe my expectations for their cocktails was set far too high. It's a neat little spot, just wish they weren't blasting the music so loud and had better cocktails.
Great! Fun experience.
menu is extremely limited - don't go there expecting a lot of choices - they have a few appetizers and that is it!
Celebrating a promotion
Love the hidden entrance! Food was spectacular

We were from out of town so we used gps to direct us to the restaurant location which was very confusing. We called the restaurant to clarify the directions but got a voicemail which sounded liked a game of Clue which sent us to another location where a host would take us to a secret door to lead us there. With so much mystery built up behind this secret restaurant that promised exotic menu items from around the world, we were let down very hard with mediocre food and worse service by a server that couldn’t remember our order, missing items and at the same time adding other things that we didn’t order in the first place. The bar decor was the best part of the experience which we involuntarily stayed to enjoy while waiting an extremely long time for the server to bring us the bill.
Environment and drinks were perfect! We ordered food, flat bread. Unfortunately, it took a really long time to heat some bread and cheese. Tasted great when it came, but didn't seem very well prioritized. I would return again despite this, however, as the drinks were worth the time.
Highly confused and surprised about the secretive speakeasy nature of melrose station. Rolled up to a hooka lounge and told the host where we intended to go and he quietly hurried us to the back chamber like we were jay z and beyonce meeting with al capone. The mystery was both parts confusing and cool. The melrose station has beautiful design elements which attracted me the most. Decent music playing and not too loud. My only gripe: the liquor collection is horribly basic and pricey. Note to owners: please invest in interesting booze and interesting cocktails. Overall: awesome!
Came here for birthday drinks and was happily surprised to actually have to find the place (people often throw around the word ‘speakeasy’ without putting any effort to actually hide it) and loved the close atmosphere. It was smaller than the pictures made it seem, but not at all crowded. Food was great, service was kinda spotty but nothing specific to complain about— it was just weirdly hard to find someone once or twice when we needed refills etc.
I’d come here again!
Serious cocktails. Great bartenders. If you don't like this, then check yourself.
Great drinks, fun and good food.
Great surprise. Truffle flatbread was really yummy
Great place for cocktails
The cocktails are expertly made (sloe gin fizz is incredible) but the whole business of finding the place, in addition to the absent service and bad food makes it someplace I don’t think I will return to.
There was no restaurant there. The address was wrong.
If you've ever watched the movie John Wick, this place was very much The International. Smokey lounge, hidden doorways, secret passageways, chic backroom conversations. Very cool. It's a very small venue. Food was very good, I expected the prices to be a bit higher than you would normally find at a bar/lounge but it was worth the experience. Drinks were fine and also a tad bit pricey. The one small thing that irked me was that we were there for hours and the plates of food kept piling up and the waitress/hostess never once came by to pick them up. But that won't stop me from returning again. Like I said, it's a cool experience just to enter the venue. I won't post pics because I don't want to ruin it for other people.
The doorman was awesome & professional. The staff inside was clueless & slow. They kept forgetting to bring drinks. I ordered the same drink 3 times & got something different each time. Speakeasy means Speak. Easy. That means quietly. This place was as loud as a club & nothing like what I was looking for. Despite noting it was for a birthday on the reservation only the doorman wished us happy birthday. The staff inside didn't acknowledge it was a special occasion at any time.
Though there are a few issues: the music tended to be rather loud and "club-y", instead of more subdued, which is usually the case in a "speakeasy". The original idea behind the renaissance of the speakeasy was to have a place that you could have an intimate conversation, an antidote to the usually lord bars and clubs. That said, the food was very good, the staff attentive and friendly - and the bartenders were spot on terrific. These were some of the best classic cocktails we have EVER had in Los Angeles. And the bartenders were very gregarious and excellent at their work. Outstanding.
This was my second visit to Melrose Station. The first time I went the server acted as if she was bored out of her mind. Upset we only ordered two Hendricks on the rocks (which totaled out to be $34)... I thought the ambiance was cool and the bartender was friend when I left so I decided to give it a second try. Knowing this time to order the specialty cocktails , as they are cheaper than straight liquor on the rocks. Brought in my guy for his birthday. Loved the entrance but again the waitress was leaning on the wall bored out of her mind. It was a different girl. The suggestions she gave were ok but not knowledgeable. Everytime she was not at our table she was kicked back on the wall by the P.o.s station. Food came out quick but never again would I order it. My 5year old niece could’ve made me the same thing in her easy bake oven. Will never recommend this place to anyone. The only fun part of this experience is the bouncer and entrance to bar. Ps... I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks this. As both times it has been dead. Reservations not even needed.
The door man did an amazing birthday dance for me and I felt very special 10/10
The sliders were terrible. Could not even bite into the bun. Told the waiter and still had to pay for them.
I’ve been to this spot many times and it’s usually a great experience. However, last night, it was terrible. The bouncer that stands outside was beyond rude and refused to let us in for no reason. I had to ask for a manager for them to honor my reservation. I’ve never been treated so poorly at a restaurant.
Go for cocktails and the novelty experience.
