Sticky bacon marmalade, tempura cauliflower, sriracha, quinoa
Bacon jam, local grape tomatoes, Kula spinach, cabernet black pepper reduction, house pickles
Yukon Gold Gnocchi
Charred Hawaiian orange butter, garden herb essence, toasted macadamia nuts
We appreciate the attentiveness if our server while dining with an 11 mos. old.
Beware! Friday night buffet does not qualify for the owners discount. We ordered one buffet and one steak dinner and they wanted to charge us for a slice of bread.
Mussels were excellent. Need more diverse wine list. Ahi was WAY overcooked. Very good service though.
Good food and views of the ocean
The Friday night buffet was the menu choice. It had a very average offering of choices and was not worth the price charged.
Loved the food, but selection wasn’t what we expected. Butterfish was very oily.
I do not subscribe to the “sharing” mode of dining. If it is imposed, I will reduce the gratuity and not return.
What a letdown - had read pretty good reviews, then ran into a pitiful Friday nite buffet. Not much else to say, pitiful kind of covers it.
Read all types and kinds of reviews and decided to try it for ourselves instead. Definitely glad we did, fabulous service, our server Riggo (sp?) was very informative and responsive. Shortly after our food arrived DJ stopped at our table to check on everything and I stated that the reviews varied so wildy that we decided to see for ourselves, which he acknowledged. He stated that the reviews were indeed varied and hopes to improve upon them. We certainly enjoyed our food and service and will definitely recommend and return as well.
I choose this restaurant because of the dinner menu offering a lobster dish and it offered a variety for everyone. To our surprise upon check in we were told it was a buffet only and $45.00 per person which was not indicated on our reservation nor the confirmation. We spoke with the F&B manager, who offered us a look at their website (which we were unable to link to in the Opentable site only under the “Full Menu” could we see the sample menu).
The food selection was limited, room temperature and less quality than the local Safeway offered. Very disappointing from the standards Westin usually has to offer at other properties.
You really can’t do much about parents allowing children to run around tables but for diners and staff safety and for a pleasant dinning experience.... someone should say something and that should not have to be me.
However, our table server was very good and attentive.
It was an unfortunate last night in Maui dinning experience and we should have left but at 6:30, raining and 6 hungry people...we made the mistake and stayed.
I would not recommend Mauka Makai, even if you like buffets.
Everything was delicious! Best restaurant we’ve been to on Maui this trip! Our server, Danielle, gave us great recommendations and was overall wonderful. The staff was very kind and the kitchen was very accommodating to food allergies.
Wonderful ambience and great service at this restaurant with a Hawaiian themed menu. We ordered all small plates and they were creatively prepared and beautifully presented.
Service and food were both exceptional!
It was our anniversary they did nothing special for,us. Food good but very expensive,we will not go back.
We went there for the Sunday buffet. Great variety, lovely presentation. Had to ask for more water and drinks several times, so I didn't think the wait staff was very attentive. They also didn't clear used plates without us having to ask. You'd think with a buffet that the wait staff wouldn't have much to do, so at least they could have done that. The salads and entrees were pretty good. Desserts were so so.
The menu was bad. We were very disappointed. But ordered anyway. Food was awful. Service was good and people were nice, but food was just terrible. We honestly joked about it as a family. It was that bad.
Food is sub par. I really don’t get all the hype.
Birthday dinner was exceptionally delicious and the cocktails Devine
Thought the food was really outstanding. Compares to the best restaurants on West Maui. I
Ambiance was good but it could use more lighting. My friends and I needed to use our flashlight app on our phones to read menu
The reception area was extremely noisy, with a big group in the adjacent room. I was repeatedly told they would be with me in a few minutes. The service was extremely slow and when we requested additional drinks, the drinks were never brought nor were our water glasses ever refilled. This restaurant was a total disappointment.
The food was good, the service was not. Service was very slow and a martini up came in a tall drink glass, which had to be sent back. They did comp the drink.
Slow service. Received the wrong drinks. And it took over 20 minutes to get a child's ice cream. Frustrated about the time we spent waiting especially on a non-busy night. Positives the wait staff was kind and helpful and the ambiance was great.
Too bad that the ambience and service are so poor because the food was actually good overall. It feels like you're sitting in cafeteria. For the prices and what should be a lovely dining experience I would recommend white table cloths, soft lighting and trained wait staff. Also, the bartender couldn't make a drink right to save his life! We will not be going back to this restaurant unless changes are made. Too bad as we come to the Westin Ocean Resort Villas twice a year and spend 3-4 weeks and it's nice to have restaurants that we can walk to.
No atmosphere. Terrible lighting. Very limited menu. Poor alcohol selection. Waiter was nice.
Avoid this. Go next door to Dukes. The waiter was very inexperienced, the food came out cold ( they did take the entree off our bill). The environment is sterile in the midst of beautiful Hawaii. This is a standard hotel restaurant. Too many great options around to spend your time or money here.
The food and service was incredible. Loved the shared plates, which gave everyone more variety.
Food was delicious, reasonably sized portions, good service
The food and service were outstanding! Scallops, fried cauliflower and asparagus were best that we have had on the islands! Jacob was a very courteous and attentive server!
While the food was quality and tasty, the portions were small for the price. Right up against the pool of the resort so not great ambiance. Service was excellent.
Food was Friday Buffet which was good. Disappointed though we I ordered a Gin Martini and the waitress did not ask what kind of Gin which cost $19.00. That happens a lot in the Islands. Because of this I would think twice about returning.
The food - Ribeye and Butterfish - was amazing! Great ambiance/view as you’d expect as well
Service lacking. Ordered cocktail, finally came after20 minutes with salad already delivered.
Mushroom risotto entree lacked flavor. Risotto had 3 sliced mushrooms on top with 2 baby carrots and greens......not mushroom risotto in my book.
Three of the four people in our party were extremely pleased with their dinners. The fish/seafood dinners were excellent. However, I ordered the roast chicken which was served with sprouts on top. While the sauce was yummy, the sprouts included a worm crawling around. The staff was accommodating and replaced the dish. Once I began to eat, I realize that the dish consisted of two small drumsticks and two small backs. I would expect an expensive chicken dish to include at least some white meat. I would never order that dish again!
Great food and services
I cannot express how extremely extremely disappointed were with the Friday night buffet! The buffet food was just so bland and tasteless.
We had the Sunday brunch seafood buffet and it was good...and we chatted with one of the server and he told us that there would be the same buffet on Friday night...so we made reservations and invited our guests. When we checked in it was too late to change to another restaurant when we were made aware that it’s not going to be the seafood buffet.
I had the ahi poke, shrimp poke it was so tasteless.
I’m just in shock that they actually served such poor tasteless quality food on a Westin Resort property!
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT, DON’T waste your time and money.
A beautiful setting overlooking the large pool with the dune and ocean beyond. Easy to find if staying at the resort but could be a challenge re larking etc if from elsewhere. Absolutely friendly wait staff. Very attentive and warm. Biggest issues were the long time to get the orders delivered despite fact it was less than half full. Almost half an hour for the drinks then 54 minutes for the appetizer Ltd to arrive once ordered
Similar delay for the mains. The selections are varied and provide good local options. Typical Hawaiian hotel fare. Serving size reasonable. Real point is that it is a typical hotel venue with good average food and an easy dinner for the clients if the hotel ... it won’t make effort if not staying here next time on Maui.
Service was outstanding! Food was nothing special, but the service (can’t remember his name) was great!!
Beautiful view of the ocean. Relaxing Koi ponds all around while you eat. The service was excellent. The food was OK for the price. We would go again for the view and their ability to accommodate large parties.
