Market Steer Steakhouse
Best steaks we've ever had! Market Steer is top drawer all the way around.
An absolutely wonderful dinner. Best steak I have ever had in Santa Fe, the appetizers are first rate, and the sauces included the unique, imaginative, and tasty. I might have concluded that any place that chooses to mix their drinks with Carpano and Nonino can't be lacking, but the food exceeded even those high expectations. Topping it off, the service was excellent and the couple, Chef and GM, who own the place are welcoming and approachable. By all means, go!
P.S. Don't let the hotel location put you off for a second. This is no "hotel restaurant."
Absolutely amazing! Everything was wonderful and over the top!
The best of everything and the owners/Chef are fantastic people!
Both the food and the service at Market Steer are excellent. We have yet to have a meal there that was disappointing. And the service is as good as the food. Still the best steak I've ever had!
A spectacular experience. The service is beyond excellent. The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and formal all at the same time. I have been twice in one week and everything I have eaten so far has achieved a really sweet balance of innovation and comfort from the first course to the last. My Texan heart still goes pitter-patter at the thought of that ribeye with the caramel horseradish sauce. Oy vey!!!
So, basically, I’m in love. I want to congratulate the owners for making such a fine addition to the cuisine in Santa Fe. You make fine dining feel like home - and so does every member of your staff. Here’s to you! And thank you, again, Kathleen and Kristina for a beautiful experience :) I can’t wait to come back.
My steak with Bearnaise sauce was wonderful! My husband loved his Bouillabaisse. Looking forward to going back next visit to Santa Fe!
Without a doubt, one of the best meals I have had in a really long time. Everything about it was perfect from the Ribeye, the scallops, the sides, the drinks, service, ambiance of the patio. The next day on our hike my wife even said “I cannot stop thinking about how amazing that dinner was last night!” We will definitely be back on our next visits to Santa Fe.
Excellent service. Very knowledgeable waiter. Good service. Food was delicious!! Decor a little blah. Had a large group next week us, so noise level loud.
Service was impeccable, attentive without being smothering. Two of us ordered the filet, medium well. One steak was more well done than the other, but they were ok for both of us. Both of us felt, though, that the steak was salty; not enough to send back, we ate it but remarked on it. Of note, the leftover steak the next day did not taste salty so I'm not sure what happened there. One of us had crab Oscar on top of the steak and that was good. We split a butter and bacon salad which was delicious. One of us had french fries and they were good.
Awesome service, very patient waiters, let us dine at our own pace, great wine, steaks were prepared to perfection, sides were decadent, chef even let us add lobster to our mashed potatoes!
The courtyard was lovely and the fireplace kept all of us comfortable throughout the evening. Food was delicious.
Food is outstanding!! Best steak not just in Santa Fe but anywhere!
Third time here. Best service we've had. Food has been excellent. Something needs to be done about smokey patio fireplace. And surely the smoking sage in the hotels bar needs to be addressed; smells more like something else smoking.
My boyfriend and I were in town for a weekend trip and wanted to go out for a nice dinner in Santa Fe. Market Steer did not disappoint! The ambiance was beautiful and more importantly, the food was absolutely amazing. We’d be happy to come back here next time we’re in Santa Fe.
There was an initial mix up as the brochure for the SF Wine and Chile Festival said this restaurant would be serving wines of a specific winery all week in addition to a special one night wine dinner. The brochure was wrong. There really was nothing to be done and it wasn’t the restaurant’s fault. While I was irked, they were pleasant and not even wary once they realized I was going to get over it. So it evolved into a pleasant evening. The steaks were excellent, I found a bottle we liked and the patio seating was very nice. I will go back.
I can understand why this restaurant won, "Best New Restaurant" in the SF Reporter!!! The courtyard is beautiful! The service, from host, to waitress, to bus people was friendly, cordial, and timely. The food was delicious, beyond what I expected! The scallops were the best I have eaten in SF! My husband and daughter loved their steak! I enjoyed the family style sides, especially the Brousin Creamed Spinach, and I highly recommend the sauce tasting plate. All members of our party would return, we highly recommend a visit to Market Steer Steakhouse!
Simply said, this is one of the best steaks I have eaten in a very long time and I am a resident of a state that is a very significant beef producer. Three in our party order the filet and one ordered the NY Strip. Could not have been better. Our server, Walter V, was excellent as well. Definitely will go back on my next visit to Santa Fe.
Best cowboy rib eye on the planet! Truly the best steakhouse I've ever dined at. Highly recommend!
This placed missed on so many levels it is hard to know where to start. The service was terse, poorly informed, scarce, and slightly augmentative. The food was underwhelming. The steak was ordered medium, but was rare at best. The steak had been setting too long prior to serving and was cool on the outside. When brought to the attention of the server I was informed it had been “keyed in” as medium.
If you are going to bill yourself as a steak house and offer prime steaks and charge prime prices you darn well better know how to cook to temperature and serve promptly. The fries were good. The mushrooms were also under temperature. Not in Santa Fe often, but will not return here even if still open (which I doubt).
It was a perfect evening for eating on the patio, enhanced by a fountain, and shady from ivy covered walls. Service was immediate with cool water for our high desert thirst. The waitstaff were attentive without being overbearing. Ironically, my husband and I both ordered seafood at this steak house! My crab cake and his scallops were perfectly prepared. The side veggies of asparagus and mushrooms were generous and delicious. This is a new favorite restaurant.
Our seven-ounce beef filets were perfectly cooked to order. The tartly dressed kale and cabbage salad was crunchy and delicious. Unlike many steakhouse veggies, the carrots, sautéed mushrooms and asparagus we sampled were neither overcooked nor overwrought (i.e. drowned in butter and/or cheese). The manchego creme brûlée dessert was quirky but tasty. Things were pretty quiet on a mid-September Tuesday night; we’ve heard the noise level is considerably higher on weekends. Big plus: the location, just off the sublimely airy lobby of the authentically Old Santa Fe St. Francis Hotel. Minor complaint: shared dishes were served without utensils, though they were quickly supplied them at our request. Overall, a great experience.
We had a party of 10, celebrating 3 family birthdays. I specifically chose this restaurant because of excellent experiences in the past. Once again, everything was delightful!
Between us we enjoyed the pan seared scallops (my personal fave), a 30 oz porterhouse sliced by chef in kitchen and serving 4 guests, an individual steak, Mac & Cheese, creamed spinach, Caesar salad, and more. Everything was cooked just as ordered, portions were generous, and the taste and flavors were amazing.
Our server David was outstanding. He choreographed the service perfectly, with just enough time between courses for our party to savor everything while not feeling rushed. He clearly was communicating well with the kitchen because everything came out exactly as ordered and promptly - which is no small feat for a party this size. He also managed our bar service to perfection.
We enjoyed 2 bottles of the Eight Years In The Desert (2017) California red, and it was sooo good!! I was also very pleased with my Aperol Spritz.
In my opinion this is one of the best restaurants not only in Santa Fe but the entire Southwest USA. Kudos to co-owners Chef Kathleen and GM Kristina!!
There where no tooth pics. or mints after dinner.
Food and Service was 5 stars
First visit had the Porterhouse. Truely excellent. Second visit- New York Strip. Tasty but tough. Was disappointed. Will suggest to friends with appropriate cautions. Will not go there at “peak times” when I suspect they will be very busy/full. Too darn noisy.
Our reservation was early so the restaurant was just getting started. We had a lovely table right by the window. There is seating outside but since this was first time we chose inside. The NY strip steaks were outstanding and perfectly prepared. The Kale and Cabbage salad was large enough to split and creative and delicious. Our sides were the Prime Potato Mashers (loaded bake potato mashed) and the Mushrooms. Both were ample and tasty. As for a steakhouse, this is 5 star and we can’t wait to go back again when in Santa Fe.
One of the best Steakhouses anywhere. They raise their own prize cattle (grass fed) and it shows. Wonderful attentive service and then your food arrives the steak literally "melts in your mouth" Excellent side dishes and wonderful desserts. Took a friend there and he has returned bringing others four times within a year. A wonderful addition to the Santa Fe restaurant scene.
Unabashed steakhouse, with some stellar starters and sides and sauces, too. Three of us went, ordered a couple of appetizers (tartare, crab cakes), a shared steak, their 'flight' of sauces, and boursin creamed spinach. Every dish was expertly prepared, and presented well. The crab cakes were a stand-out, barely held together with a matrix that tasted like remoulade, no discernible filler at all. Full of flavor, and fresh as can be. Smoked egg-yolk grated on the tartare was a very nice counterpoint to the chopped meat. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered, and the flight of sauces had some stand-outs. 2 demiglace sauces, one with green peppercorn, the truffle butter, and the blue cheese were favorites. Chimmichurri was excellent, too. Not enamored of the 'caramelized horseradish' because it was too sweet, and personally, I'm not a fan of steak sauce so didn't try that one. Creamed spinach was barely-cooked so it still had a bit of crunch, in a nice creamy sauce. Not as herby as the name implied. Service was very good, dishes came out slowly but it made a relaxed night on the patio. The dining room looked like it would be better for a cold winter's night. My one quibble: they need to learn how to make a proper espresso, what I got was so over-extracted and bitter and watery, I didn't drink it. But, they took it off the bill without hesitation. All in all, a great experience, and we'd all go back. As a group of 3 hard-to-please chefs who can spot shortcuts in the food preparation readily, that's as good a review as I could give. Also, note the 3 of us had one entree, 2 apps, and a side. We were quite happily satisfied, and the bill was not outrageous for the quality, even though the cowboy rib-eye was pricy.
Outdoor table, great conversation. Steak nicely done. Fabulous wild mushrooms.
We had a business dinner here this week. From the appetizers, to the entrée, to the sides, everything was delicious. I had the crab cakes as my entrée. All too often, crab cakes contain too much breading and very little crab. There was plenty of crab in the cakes and they had excellent flavor. The Mac & Jack is not to be missed. The mashed potatoes were also very good. We were too full to indulge in dessert...maybe next time!
My fiance could never quite understand why I enjoy watching cooking shows or why I read up on different restaurants. He viewed food as fuel until we had dinner at Market Steer Steakhouse. He ordered the duck, experienced the first bite and whispered, "I now understand." He was elated the entire time. I ordered steak and it was phenomenal. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The meal was on the pricier end but the food quality, service, and ambience made it worthwhile. I can't wait to go back and experience it again.
Best restaurant in Santa Fe. Everything was great. The food was perfect. The service was perfect. I would recommend this restaurant to all.
It was a very pleasant experience and the food was delicious.
My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary, so we were wanting a very special place, quiet, romantic, with fantastic steaks. Market Steer was recommended to us, as having the best steaks in Santa Fe. I've been to Morel's in Las Vegas, and Ruth's Chris, and have to say the steaks was better than Ruth's Chris, and on par with Morel's, but the atmosphere at Market Steer is so much better than both. The salad was a perfect balanced mix of high quality mixed greens and dressing. The side dishes were outstanding as well. We had the special which was the 28oz bone in Ribeye.
The patio is lovely and quiet. Our server was just ok, not very attentive or helpful. Wish she had told 3 (local) couples NOT to order 3 orders of fries. Two couples ordered their steaks rare, and they arrived medium, so they were sent back. The other couple ordered their steak medium well, and it arrived medium rare. They ate it but it wasn’t what they ordered. The steaks were excellent quality—but a steakhouse has to get the temperature right—especially given the price. (Thus the 2-star rating for value.)
Our server Ian was exceptional
Very knowledgeable and attentive
Caesar salad very good
Croutons the best
French fries superb
Crab cakes just ok
Manager Austin very good
Smells from burning sage interfered greatly with the dining experience
Evening meals are superb; however, this Sunday brunch was not very good. Limited run items and somewhat pricey. Our waiter seemed to be overly busy since practically everything took s long time to serve us. Would not go back for s Sunday brunch. Would go back for dinner though
If you're in Santa Fe and looking for a nice steakhouse I must recommend the Market Steer Steakhouse! The atmosphere is perfect for an enjoyable evening, the staff and management team are all clearly experienced and delivered a highly professional and engaging dining experience.
As for the food...WOW! Great steaks and sides and definitely add on the truffle butter and do the green chili risotto for a side! They also had a nice wine list to compliment our dinner choices and a full bar as well.
Highly recommend this place and the next time I'm in Santa Fe will be making another reservation for sure!
We have eaten here once before. The food is wonderful; however our service was not great. We dined with our kids and the waiter was very rude. The bar menu (served by the same restaurant) has other food options. He would not accommodate options from that menu for our kids and then was irritated when my daughter ordered a salad as her entree and my son ordered a side item. My husband ordered wine that was not available and then his next option was not brought until we had finished eating. . For the price you can find better options in Santa Fe that will accommodate customers.
Excellent dining experience. Our steaks were outstanding and done to perfection. Lots (maybe too many) of choices for steak toppings. Our wedge salad was probably the best I ever had. Service was slow to start probably because we were at the end of the heavy Sat. dining rush, but when many guests left, we had excellent attention and service.
