About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for outdoor dining
Discovering Italy by way of La Jolla, Marisi focuses on Italian hearth cooking with an emphasis on handmade pastas, fine wine and classic cocktails. The menu celebrates the rich diversity of cuisine from across Italy, fashioned in a time-honored tradition of handmade all day, every day. A dream that lives between the Italian and La Jolla coasts, suspended between tides instead of time — a mood more than a plot. A visit that feels a lot like coming home, if home was a warm, charming villa off the Amalfi coast. Marisi is a taste of something you want to remember. We hope you love it.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Chef Cameron Ingle

From the OpenTable editors: This dainty Italian restaurant is a La Jolla newcomer, but it’s already made an impression thanks to standout farm-to-table fare from executive chef Cameron Ingle (of Bouchon Bistro and Bestia fame). Toast with vermouth before digging into winners like einkorn cavatelli and bite-sized agnolotti.

Every time we come, they outdo themselves. The GM Carly is fantastic and on top of everything without making it seem like work while making sure you're well-taken care of. The rest of the front of the house is wonderful as well. Of course, the food is outstanding! The carbonara was a special standout, alongside the branzino. But truly, the menu has no misses. Most importantly, we brought our dog, who they remembered from prior visits, and treated her like true Marisi royalty, bringing her a 4 course puppy meal alongside our own! She got hard boiled eggs, branzino, veggies with chicken, and raspberries. We all had a truly spectacular evening, and can't wait to come back. This is a must visit if you're in town.

Every course was exceptionally prepared. Our server was attentive, professional and friendly. The service staff ensured beverages were topped off, each course was delivered at the appropriate time, and empty service ware was promptly cleared.

The service and food was fabulous. The prosciutto and bread was delicious! We had three different pastas and all of them were delicious.

Marisi was our worst meal in La Jolla. The blackened branzino was burnt, the tomato salad actually was made of chopped sun-dried tomatoes (this detail was not on written on the menu or we wouldn’t have ordered it) and the rib pasta was so excessively salty it was inedible. We left hungry and disappointed after an over 250$ meal and we will avoid next time we are in the area.

We were looking forward to trying Marisi. While the service was attentive and the ambiance was nice, the food left a lot to be desired. Every dish you would expect to be true to its origins, like the Carbonara and Italian Dip Sandwich (aka French Dip), were "off." The Carbonara was in some kind of heavy, overly rich cheese sauce instead of traditional egg yolks and Parmesan. The Italian Dip sandwich had chopped/ground meat in an odd seasoning, with sun-dried tomatoes that were also ground into mush. The "Dip" looked like weak tea and had no hearty beef flavor. The chopped salad ingredients were reduced down to 'minced' versions and the Caesar salad dressing bore no resemblance to Caesar dressing. The iced tea was great, but was served in small juice-sized glasses. The house made Focaccia was superb, along with the garlic butter and balsamic-brown butter dips. Unfortunately, these were not enough to justify the rest of the overpriced meal.

Beautiful ambiance. Fabulous service. INCREDIBLE food and drinks. Such a creative menu with every bite being more enjoyable than the last. It’s the most gorgeous restaurant and boasts both indoor and outdoor seating options that are comfortable and elegant. It’s perfect for a romantic evening, catch up with friends, or to impress out of town guests. Definitely one of the absolute best dining experiences in all of Southern CA. Also, don’t sleep on the candle that they’re burning in the bathroom - it smells amazing and they’re sold at the restaurant. Take one home!

This is an Italian restaurant so stick to their pastas and roasted chicken. Ordered their swordfish special on Monday night. Nothing special about it. It was barely cooked was to be grilled had no grill marks and potato puree. It was a plate of white very unappealing. No fresh veggies. I sent it back to cook more. It had no flavor the potato purée was delicious as was our starter of little gem Caesar and their delicious focaccia bread. The server offered to get me a new entree and she removed it from our bill. Next time it’s pasta!

The food was over the top and the service was spectacular. Karley Mae’s, general manager, was warm and welcoming and made sure our table of six was taken care of. All of the servers were prompt, friendly and tended to every detail. We ordered Bolognese and a gem salad to share and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Great food, cocktails (inventive but with no reliance on shock value) and service. Inside looks nice, but why eat inside when outside is available! The crudo changes, but ours was awesome, as was the beet salad, bone marrow, and prosciutto. The big surprise was the bolognese—v good (I thought it would be boring: wrong).
