Maria Jose Peruvian Gourmet
With an emphasis on having the freshest ingredients and an artful presentation, we created a menu that reflects the Peruvian spirit by delivering familiar dishes to friends in the Valley.
Next to our bar, we have a stylish and comfortable tapas bar section that offers a chance to relax to tastefully prepared "tapas" paired with wines that our clients have come to love.
We are a family friendly, casual fine dining, California adopted and proudly Peruvian restaurant. See you soon!
I just happened to see this restaurant searching open table yesterday. My husband and I went and we were very impressed. The owner Maria is the hostess. She was very delightful and sat us down. We had good service and the food was excellent
This is a new neighborhood gem. Food was delicious, as was service. Please support this new restaurant.
Thank you very much Ojailyn!
This is our second time at Maria Jose. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The steak and fish were really delicious. I love the presentation of the fish on wooden planks. The empanada was especially tasty. As they have become more popular having been open only a few months. The service has suffered from not enough help on the floor. We waited a bit long for our entrees. But I don't fault the food at all. We will be back.
Thank you John! We are committed to provide the best possible service to our customers. Please accept our apologies. We are making changes to improve the service. Hope to see you soon!
A nice addition to the desert restaurant scene, Maria Jose serves authentic and delicious Peruvian food. The lomo salted and the ceviche were both delicious. We also enjoyed the dessert of homemade alfajores. We definitely plan to eat here again in the near future.
Hello Carole, thank you for your kind words. YES! The Lomo Saltado and Ceviche are two of our signature dishes (and people's favorites). Hope to see you soon!
Great food. Service could be better. Very nice staff.
Thank you PSlocal! We are working on it.
The food is delicious, service was attentive without being intrusive, and Maria is an amazing and gracious restaurateur.
Thank you for your kind words!
It was my birthday, and we were looking for a place that could accommodate a party of six. We arrived fifteen minutes before our reservation and were seated promptly by a polite server, but nothing else went well.
The restaurant is in a mostly empty mall, not at all easy to find. It is very dark, and not romantic-dark, but dark-dark: there are NO overhead lights. I could barely read the menu with my 30-year-old, 20/20 eyes. I cannot imagine that anyone my parents’ age would have been able to read it at all. We placed our order at 8:05. There were three other tables, none of whom had food in front of them. Several minutes after we ordered, a woman came to tell us that they were out of the arroz con pato that I had ordered, and asked what I wanted instead. I didn’t have a menu anymore, so she brought me one.
There isn’t much of a drinks program: a handful of beers (every single one a lager! One from Peru – but our server had never tried it and didn’t know if it was any good) and some wines (cheap house wines by the glass or very expensive bottle options). No spirits. Two of us ordered drinks. No one ever came by to see if we wanted more. At 9:00, the drinks were long gone and we were worried about whether we would ever see food. One table had gotten some small plate appetizers, but had finished them. It looked like everyone was STILL waiting for entrees.
At 9:15, more than an hour after we ordered, we asked if the food was close to ready. Most other kitchens in town would be closing at 10, so our window to get anything else for dinner that wasn’t Taco Bell was quickly closing. He told us the kitchen was “really backed up” (it was still just the three two-tops and our party of six), but that the food would be ready in fifteen. When we pressed, he said maybe twenty. He offered us some wine on the house while we waited, but it was too little too late. We offered to pay for our two drinks and go. He comped the drinks and we left. It was a bummer birthday meal.
Some of the best food in all of the Desert!
Thank you Tony! We are glad you liked it!
Hard to find due to lack of signage, but well worth finding it !!
The owner is always there and extremely friendly and the waiter was extremely helpful, informative and friendly.
The chef was exceptional.
We will definitely be returning A LOT !

The whole experience at Maria Jose Peruvian Gourmet was exceptional - from the warm welcome of Maria and Danny, to the ambiance of the space, to the delicious flavors of the food. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends, and I will be coming back soon myself.
Thank you Kerry! We will pass your comment to everyone involved.
Excellent place. Owner Maria Jose is very pleasant. Food is great. Love music. Needs better signage. Will go back to try other dishes. Try live music for weekends.
Hello Mary, thank you for your kind words. We are working on different ways to help people find us. Hope to see you soon!
Going to visit Maria Jose is a wonderful experience. She has the best recipe book of any South American restaurant I've been in, never mind that it is all Peruvian Gourmet. My usual habit is to find something on the menu and eat it every time and here I am working my way down the menu and enjoying each new taste as much or more than the last. Go and enjoy - and ask about the Peruvian beer and her amazing deserts.
Thank you very much for your kind words. We are happy to know that you enjoyed your visit.
Outstanding food, great ambiance, a friendly place!
Thank you very much!
We had a great dinner here last night. The Caesar Salad with a "Peruvian Twist" was really good. We ordered the Ropa Vieja and Chicken Lasagna, both were great. It's going to be hard to try anything new next time because the Ropa Vieja was so good. We look forward to going back!
Thank you for your kind review Char! Your food selection was great. As a suggestion for your next visit, give the Causa and the Lomo Saltado a chance.
I went to Lima over New Years and was introduced to Peruvian cuisine. So good. It’s become an obsession for me. I was intrigued when I saw this restaurant open here in the desert. It does not disappoint. I love their Peruvian ceviche (large chunks of fish!) and even their Nikkei selections (the Peruvian take in Japanese cuisine) are amazing. Fantastic food, and in my opinion, very inexpensive for what it is. My new favorite in the desert. And the owner is delightful.
Thank you for your kind review. Our goal is to bring Peruvian flavors to the desert and share a little bit of our history and culture. We are happy to know that we didn't disappoint you!
This place is amazing! Truly authentic and delicious. It’s a hidden gem. The owner was there she is friendly and the staff was wonderful. It’s a new place. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
This place just recently opened so I am really trying to give it a chance. However, I can not over look a few main facts.
We had a 7.00 reservation... we arrived on time. The hostess was busy talking to a waitress and ignored us for a few minutes and continues finishing what she had to say and then finally looked over and approached us. She was not very welcoming and it was kinda awkward. She went on to tell us our table was not ready, even though the restaurants was practically empty 😳 she led us to the lounge area and offered us a beer and wine menu. We have her out drink order fairly promptly. 10 minutes later our friends arrived and we were were seated about 5 mins after that. We had still not received our initial drink order. 15m after being seated they took the rest off the tables drink orders. We did not get any drinks for about another 20mins!
We put in our appetizer order; it took them over an hour to get those to us.... we asked how long it would take for main course and were told at least another hour😳
They had messed up on the appetizer order and it came out so late! But it was very delicious!
We did not stay for our main course as we were starving.
The place was super dark, we all had to use the flashlights from our phone and the few other customers there also seemed annoyed.
I would really like to try the food there again... but will wait and see if they woke out these very serious kinks and get a liquor license....
All in all very disappointed! And we did not even get an apology when we told them we are leaving and the reason...
Outstanding meal, excellent service and good value. Have already made return reservation for family dinner.
Thank you very much!
Peruvian cuisine is amazing and excellent Peruvian cuisine is awesome. One thing that is so important is the quality and taste of the green sauce (this is a Peruvian staple when eating) and Maria Jose has a recipe that is over the top. She won't share the ingredients, but know that it is better than any other I've tasted.
Thank you for your kind review! Our green sauce is becoming popular among customers. We are very glad you liked it!
