Mangy Moose Restaurant and Saloon
The waiter made our dining experience! The elk chili was one of our table’s favs!
Anniversary dinner and it was fantastic! Everything was great!
Atmosphere and service were good. Food was mediocre at best.
Prime rib and mashed potatoes were top notch! Patio dining is enjoyable.
Ran out of prime rib which was a bummer and closed to desserts except one by the time we got to dessert. Otherwise would go again but earlier in the evening.
We were on vacation. It was good. Not a lot of options
We looked forward to eating at the Mangy Moose for 2 years. It did not disappoint. The prime rib is outstanding.
Fantastic food and service was great after the first few minutes. We came in with a rush so a little delay was understandable. We sat on the porch which was really lovely.
We ate at the restaurant vs. the saloon. Decor was fun and unique. Flavor of dishes was fair especially considering price. Not high on our list to repeat.
Super interesting atmosphere with great food at good value.
Great atmosphere, good service but food was so-so.
Excellent as always. There's a reason why we make sure to go here when we're in Jackson.
The service was poor and inattentive
The food was bad
We were overcharged for drinks and they refused to correct the mistake
I will never go back
Hi Peter, I have looked over your check, can you let me know what drinks you believe you were overcharged for? What about the bison meatloaf and salad did you dislike? Thank you for your feedback.
Bad evening to go. Must have been overcrowded. Service was very inattentive Took 45 minutes for our salads to arrive and then a long time for entries two of which were cold. Then long to get the bill. Generally a long unsatisfactory evening for a place we previously enjoyed.
Avoid the restaurant. We asked for our appetizers to come first then our salads then our meal. They brought out appetizers and salads at the same time. Then before we had taken a bite they brought the steaks. We had to tell them to put the meals under the heat lamps so we could eat the apps and salads. The food especially the prime rib and hamburgers were awful. Plus they were sold out of the first 3 bottles of wine which I asked for. .
Avoid at all costs
The Moose has it all. Truly part of the JH experience. A super place.
We were there on vacation. It has a great location and the food is very good.
The atmosphere of this restaurant is terrific. We were seated upstairs near a horseshoe-shaped balcony that looks over the first floor, so it was very open and nice. The service was excellent and though it was a busy holiday weekend we were seated promptly once we arrived for our reservation. Food and service were excellent.
The service was great we got there early and the waiter sat us 30 minutes before our reservation and was really nice about it ! I had a very nice time and would definitely come back !
Very good prices for a ski town. Food was very plain and not flavorful. Best part of the dinner was bread.
Great atmosphere, food and waiter. Awesome ski town vibe. Definitely recommend and will return
We had made a reservation far in advance and they gave us a terrible table right inside the door. Followed by poor service which included getting drinks and missing items that were ordered. Soup and broccoli came cold, Budda bowl was missing chicken and was dry, but the ribs were delicious!!!
Terrible service from start to finish.
Busy place during ski season. Table next to the kitchen. Noisy but service was very good. Food good but not gourmet quality to be sure. Fun but not fine dining!
It is a box of chocolates. We were there last night and had an outstanding dinner and good service. Have been coming here for many years and it is luck of the draw if you catch them on a good night or not. Our kids like the atmosphere and we like the walk to location. To the other reviewers' points, service is all over the board but the food is generally pretty good. We seem to have better luck when we dine early.
Over priced relative to portion size. Split plate add on price not worth the cost given the tiny portions. Fish and chips portion look like it came from a minnow farm and roasted chicken quarter came from a quail.
In Jackson for a few days from the east coast. Made a reservation here and it was awful. $150 meal for 4 people. Meals were small. Food was bad. Order was wrong. Food was cold. Didn’t even ask us for drinks. Put us in front of the stairs. Had to move bc ppl kept bumping into us. Asked for chicken, got fish. Everyone else finished the meal but mine was still being cooked since it was wrong. So disappointed. Wanted this to be a good meal during my short stay w my friends that just flew in and were tired and starving.
Tequila was very good.
The Moose has been a favorite of the family for 30 + years. It has gradually increased in price over time but now it is expensive and not as lively as it was. It used to be a fun local after ski area but the restaurant has lost its luster. The bar is still a fun spot.
Perfect after ski food in a local low key ambiance. Cesear salad real fresh ! We go to Mangy Moose every time we are in Teton Village.
Everything was lovely -- the food, ambiance, our waitress -- except for the junior hostess working the front door. She didn't seem to know how to access our reservation via her iPad and seemed very confused about where and how to sit us. She tried to help two other parties ahead of us when clearly we were standing right there ahead of them. Then after our wonderful meal and we had asked for our bill and were waiting for our waitress to ring our credit card , the same hostess found our table and asked if we needed anything else , to go boxes, the check now, anything. She was obviously rushing us at it was 8:10pm... our reservation was for 6:45.
Again, everything was great except for her treatment of us.
Good wasn’t great or the service. But a super fun venue which is why I’d recommend it.
The food was great. Be careful if you sit near the wall though, it can be drafty.
The place was empty...we were seated upstairs at a very small table that faced the wall. Service was good. Menu was abbreviated due to holiday. Food was good. Overall not happy with the seating and temperature (freezing!) of the restaurant.
An original classic with perfect location....but due for an upgrade in food, which is over priced and not well executed. Dinner options have proliferated, at similar pricing, and MM has not keep pace. There are so many other, better options.
I have been a MM customer for decades, going back to late 60’s and usually frequent 5-6 times per year. I understand the issues with staffing in JH, but it was very apparent that many staff were very green. With 3 young children in a group of 8, there was a 30 min wait to receive the entrees after salads had been served. One adult had the 20oz prime rib and it was extremely tough. While the mega burger was very good it was an impractical size to eat. I am hopeful that menu and service issues get corrected as MM has been a regular part of our lives. We would not return if this level of experience is the future norm.
I apologize for your experience. Did you alert anyone to your problem with the prime rib? Were there specific issues that caused you to believe the staff was inexperienced? I would like to address all issues that you experienced. I have already spoken with your server and he did not recollect any specific problems. If he is oblivious to them, I would like to know so that I may speak with him regarding his service. Thank you for taking the time to review us. I promise to do better next time.
Food is good especially the prime rib. Hostess greeting at the door needs serious improvement now 2 years in a row.
Service is exceptionally poor. Go to any of the multitude of steak places in downtown for excellent service and quality food.
Food was very average for the price. Up charged for a switch of potato. Had to send our prime rib back for cooking temperature and by the time it was brought back, baked potato was cold. Would not recommend or go back.
