Mandolin is a breath of fresh air to the Raleigh dining scene, combining a casual atmosphere with fresh, contemporary, Southern fare. Mandolin uses the highest quality local ingredients to create seasonal menus that resonate with foodies and casual diners, alike. We share our food in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that replaces the stuffiness of fine-dining with Southern charm. The menu and ambiance reflect the character of Raleigh itself- a blend of rustic and refined, contemporary and traditional, rural and metropolitan. Mandolin, like the City of Oaks, is Southern at its roots, but draws influences from around the world. We love our new home in Hayes Barton, just a stone's throw from Five Points, on the corner of Oberlin and Fairview.

Mandolin Ratings and Reviews
First of all, the place was extremely noisy. It was difficult to have a conversation in a normal tone of voice. The service was good, but the food was only fair. The Country Ham Benedict was served on toast that was tough and difficult to cut. The fat had not been trimmed from the country ham...okay if it's served by itself but not in a benedict. The Mandolin Bowl was tasty but eventually got sort of boring. Bread service was very skimpy. No salt and pepper on the table, which seems to be a trend everywhere these days. I don't think we'll be back.
Took my wife for our 16th Anniversary, enjoyed it very much. Food was excellent as was the service. Noise level was acceptable as most of the pre-Christmas crowds and partiers were gone.
Really enjoyed and would recommend. Will go back when the menu changes in the spring.
nice but too noisy- A big room with many large parties.
1 group at a table 50' away was so loud( shouting down the length of their table) that we couldn't hear each other-
management apparently unwilling to ask group to quiet down
generally spoiled the ambiance.
food not as good as last visit, 6 months prior
Chicken & waffles as uninteresting as the usual local version( hoped for a creative variation0
Panzanella salad unlike any other panzanella salad on earth( not a good thing)
Once again our food and service was awesome. My family was here from Florida and we enjoyed a spectacular meal together. My son and husband enjoyed the impressive 32 oz Ribeye.
We always enjoy Mandolin. It’s well worth the drive from Holly Springs. Can’t wait to return!
We're so happy that we live close to Mandolin. We visit regularly, if not often. But with every visit, we're reminded why we like the restaurant so much.
The dishes are always very well prepared and served. Last night my wife had soup (forgot which one) and the hanger steak. I enjoyed the pork belly and oyster appetizer and had the pork shank for the main. We enjoyed every bite. Our only disappointment was that we didn't have room for a dessert.
We’ve been wanting to try Mandolin for a while because of the ever changing menu and we’re very happy we did.
At first we felt a bit ignored by our waitress until we realized that she was one of two and had her hands full. Both of us have worked in the service industry and know what that’s like. Furthermore, she was always pleasant, helpful and apologetic so she more than made up for it.
For the appetizer we had roasted cauliflower which was superb. The flavors popped and the portion size was perfect. For dinner I had the fish and substituted potatoes for brussel sprouts (I don’t eat complex carbs) and my husband had the pheasant. Both dishes were STUNNING in presentation and again, the portion size was perfect. Both of us had some reservations when we read the menu and saw the combination of flavors however we were pleasantly surprised. The chefs aren’t afraid to experiment and really know what they’re doing!
All in all, we really enjoyed Mandolin and plan to return to see what’s on their menu next time!!
Went for brunch, so I can't quite comment on their regular menu, but was very pleased with my experience. Brunch was a good value, especially considering their regular menu. All our food was absolutely delicious (my omelette and my friend's eggs benedict) and their biscuits should be illegal (in a good way). Service was also excellent, where I usually find that brunch service at restaurants can be a crapshoot. It was VERY quiet inside, but we arrived very shortly after they opened.
Great place to meet two others for a casual business dinner. I really enjoyed the creative and unique menu and the sheepshead I had was amazing! I also like the cocktail I ordered. My guests had chicken & waffles (finished it all), I tried a taste and it was great. My other guest had the mushroom entrée and cleaned their plate. Nice atmosphere and unique style. Bathroom was very clean, always a plus!
This was birthday celebration for my sister. Started with the eggplant soup which had a smokiness and was delicious. For dinner both of us decided to try their Chicken and Waffles which I had not tried in in previous visits. Best fried chicken I had in a long time. The waiter said it is the brining. Will definitely order this again. For dessert, tried the sorbet trio - OMG the Muscadine was by far my favorite! The apple and lime were excellent too. If you haven't tried Mandolin, you should go soon.
The service was outstanding. We had a lovely experience in the bar and in the dining room. The only reason I gave 4 stars for food was my choice in main course. While it was probably executed beautifully, I wish I would have ordered something else as the fish dish was too fishy and a touch too salty for me. My mom had the steak and it was absolutely delicious. Wine suggestions by our server were perfect. Desert was phenomenal! Their caramel cake just can’t be beat. Again, the service and ambiance was wonderful. Mandolin is one of our favorite places.
This was my second visit to Mandolin and even better than the first! Food is excellent. I had the hangar steak and panzanella salad, both were expertly prepared and delicious. If the caramel cake with buttermilk ice cream is on the menu, be sure to have it. We ordered one for the table and my husband ended up ordering a 2nd slice for himself! It was that good. The chocolate souffle is also extraordinary. The service is expert, accommodating, and friendly. We had different waiters on both occasions and they both knew the menu well. We'll definitely be going back!
