Minimal buffet choices. Restaurant opened at 5pm and we had 5pm reservations. You would wxpect the food to be fresh! Why was the prime rib and pork COLD! Even sitting under the warmer lights, the food was cold!

We dined for thanksgiving buffet- 120 pp. the food was truly below average, the servers totally understaffed but sweet, the buffet was picked bare, noone to “carve” - it was poorly done. No alcohol served - not a good experience at all.

Very disappointing. We went for their Thanksgiving buffet and when we arrived everything was practically empty or dried out. There was a whole turkey but nothing to cut it with and nothing pre sliced. My friend used the provided tongs to cut out chunks of turkey. Prime Rib was advertised, there was nothing left but a small portion but no one there to cut it. Honestly, we should have just left at that point but we stayed in hope it would get better. It got slightly better and more (fresher) food started to come out. Just wasn’t worth the $125/person charge.

Food was Cold. Very little in the Warmers., Saw 2 crab legs . They had Turkey, Potatoes were hard and Cold. Turkey dressing was so old and cold ! Gravy ? No Gravy ?? Fish … there was nothing until 45 -1 hour later, They had a small bowl with Poke in it . Didn’t look fresh at all? Nobody was overlooking the food, cleaning up the area , cleaning the plates the tongs were sitting on. Keeping the food looking delicious . Even the fruits, Doesn’t someone do a taste taste . Pineapple is so sour ! Cantaloupe, Melons. No taste. Didn’t see 1 Professional Chef on site, A lady took over and started cutting the prime rib and I give a 5 stars but before her, Nobody is around. I remember the Pacific hotel and their buffets before, It was Packed with Local People and tourists! Yesterday 1 bowl of Poke with 1 dirty spoon in it ! This hotel should ashamed of this thanksgiving turkey brunch they offered yesterday. I was wondering in my Mind. Why are there so many empty tables? Sorry but I will never return to this hotel.

We decided to try this venue and we were celebrating a birthday. Ambiance as clean and spacious. Food selection was limited. Items were not restocked in a timely manner. Sometimes not at all. They ran out of hot and cold crab, shrimp cocktail and customers had to wait a long time for the prime rib to be replenished. This was during their dinner buffet time on 5-8 pm. Appears they were short staffed and short of food items for the night. we counted approximately 25 people total in the restaurant. Service people were gracious and working very hard. Would not recommend.

Makana Lani was a very unpleasant experience. Over priced dinner buffet offered very limited selection of unlabeled food under poor lighting. Doors opened at 1715, our reservation was 1700. Our waiter was very informative and attentive. Ambiance was pleasant and soothing. Unlimited refills on drinks but no fruit punch available this evening. It’s byob but I guess we should have brought our own fruit punch. There was no “unique dining experience” as advertised. It was a poor dining experience as far as buffet dinners. Our initial buffet dining experience when Makana Lani first opened was a great experience. We love to support locally owned business but unfortunately we will not be supporting Makana Lani.

Very nice restaurant. Seated very fast. Service was great. Some of the foods were a bit salty to me. Prime rib was very good. Crab legs was a bit over cooked but it was still delicious. Overall it was a very nice experience. Would definitely recommend. Free parking for 3 hours as well. So I can’t complain to much.

We've dined at Orchids a couple times for Sunday brunch so decided to try a new place. Makani Lani is the place where the locals go. Great food, much better prices, and great service. The owner was running around entertaining people and I loved that once a dish would run out they would often replace it with something different. We got to try so many different things, and everything was so delicious. The restaurant is inside and lacking the beach view and fresh air, but the beautiful aquarium still gave a nice setting. We'd come back here again.

Stay away from this restaurant if you don't want to feel like you were cheated out of your money! Everything that you see online is a sham and filled with false advertising. I believe this explains why when we first arrived, we were shocked that at 11:45 am on a Sunday, the entire restaurant was empty. It's a large restaurant space but including our party of five, there was a total of about 15 guests. During th course of our lunch, a few more arrived but I would say the maximum number of guests there came to about 25. But never mind how many peole were there, or the fact that their servers were pleasant, IT'S THE FOOD THAT WE WERE THERE FOR, and it was sooooo disappointing--I can't tell you how much. I was shocked at the condition of the buffet as the owner is supposed to be a seasoned restauranteur. The first chafing dish on the buffet line was white rice but just a few dried grains lining the warmer. Not even some decent hot rice but next in line there were lots of red-skinned potatoes to be had. It was downhill from there. Some kind of chopped up chicken with vegetables, brussel sprouts, a few snow crab legs (barely any in the steamer), bacon that resembled sticks of jerkey, fairly decent portugese sausage, and really nothing else. The seafood, salad, and fruit bars were very modest but the grapes and melon were a respite from the rest of the offerings. They had an omelette station where the poor fellow making them was only on his second day on the job and was struggling even with the thin crowd. And the chopped makings were practically gone--very little to choose from. Next we had the pastries which I would say were the highlight but there was no flan to be found and most of the items were dry and with very little flavor. Ms. Hata-Watanbe: sincerely, if you don't want to go down the tubes, now is the time to be true to the online photos and other marketing. After you fix the problems, let us know. We might give you another try.

Meh… I haven’t been here for a long time - since it was the pacific beach hotel. Frankly, I was disappointed and found myself apologizing to my wife for bringing her. When it was pacific beach hotel, there was a very classy ambiance, fantastic food spread including a sushi bar, and an aquarium with sharks and rays. Now it is kind of like an embassy suites with coarse bright lighting, so-so food, and an aquarium with no remarkable fish. And about $70 a pop for brunch with no liquor included or even available. It would be a good brunch for $25 - $35, but totally not worth the current price. But more than the money alone, I was saddened that what was once such a fantastic destination has become so unremarkable.

We had an excellent time celebrating a birthday and two wedding anniversaries! The place was very clean, and the view of the fish tank really added to a positive experience. Our dirty plates were taken away promptly, and all the servers were so accommodating and friendly (especially Julie). All the food were tasty and plentiful. It was so nice to have Mrs. Hata-Watanabe pay us a short visit to talk story. Even Marion (I think the baker) came out to share some of his sourdough bread with us (which was good). All in all a very wonderful experience, and we’ll definitely be coming back! Mahalo Makana Lani!

Had an Anniversary Dinner on Oc 1,2023. We went for the crab legs that was dried out and cold. The chafing dish was not full and what was in there was mostly leg tips. Luckily (but not really) i was the first customer in line and managed to plate all 3 full legs that was in the pot to my plate! Felt obligated to eat it all despite the poor selection of cold and unappealing crab selection. So, that’s okay since i was there to eat oysters too. Wrong, chef decided to swap oysters with crab claws! what? Who does that when there’s crab on the entree line! wrong swap for sure. And the salad bar? Nope to salad bar to choose from. the offered iceberg lettuce salad with cherry tomatoes garnish. That is not acceptable! And no ice cream? Never coming back to Makana Lani, Truly not a “Heavenly Gift or Gift of heaven here. So disappointing and a far cry for $80 pp.

Need to put labels on the dishes. Also more choice of beverages. Like to see ocha. Overall good place to bring family. Place was not on Kalakaua Avenue. Had to get directions.

The food wasn’t fresh. The pasta partially was dry and crunchy. The crab legs were over cooked. The samon smelled as if it were spoiled. The wait staff was limited. The carving and stir fry stations were left unattended, so you had to wait for service. There was a large group having a meeting of some sort that was loud throughout the restaurant. The restaurant isn’t set up to support this type of event. Our table and all other patrons were not considered in the decision to host such a noisy crowd. We couldn’t hear each speaking at our table over the noise. This was my second time, my first visit was pleasant. I brought family this time and they were not impressed either.

This restaurant provides a delicious and enjoyable time with the staff and the atmosphere of the customers. I went there for a visit from Japan, so I won't be able to visit again soon, but if I have the chance, I would like to go there again. The owner speaks fluent Japanese to Japanese people, so it's okay even if you can't speak English.

This place is so overpriced. We were there for the weekday breakfast buffet and the selections were a joke; the price is a joke too ($39 per person). Super basic stuff like scrambled eggs, some fruits, yogurt, probably store-bought and dried-out pastry. Remember, this is a restaurant in a 4-star resort! But I thought I was in Holiday Inn for complimentary continental breakfast. It is a rip off. Don’t waste your money on this place. The Longboard Club basically offers the same thing but you get to have yummy Açaí bowl at least.

Makana Lani, A Dining ExperienceResponded on September 7, 2023

Mahalo for supporting our small, locally owned business. So glad you were able to dine upstairs at the exclusive club, they have 3 hot dishes and a beautiful selection of 13 wines. We offer an omelet station, hot soup station All homemade breads, with a 17 year old starter!!!! We are so excited about that. We offer a selection of seasonal fruits, salads, yogurt with our house made granola and EIGHT hot selections. Don’t forget our unlimited fresh fruit juice selection, Kona coffee, and Hawaiian tea. All this for $38 a person. You could also select off of our a la carte breakfast menu that ranges from $17-$22. If you are looking for a more budget conscious meal, we can always refer you elsewhere. The yummy açaí bowl upstairs is about $19, and so very worth it. So happy you splurged!

Service was horrible. Our server was only nice to us in the end when he realized I booked our party for a birthday. He was giving attitude, making faces and rushing as we were trying to be polite and order our food. Did not give us updates on our food, we were the only table other than one more on the second floor which shouldn’t be an excuse to be lousy at all.

Their website needs to be updated to state when their ala carte dinners are available. Right now, it states Thursdays to Sunday, and we were told that we could only have the buffet on Sunday. We did try the buffet and enjoyed the food! Great variety. The other thing that was not clear on the website is that they serve no alcohol. We were told that BYOB was acceptable with a corkage fee. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time by having all this information on their website. All and all we enjoyed our meal. The servers were friendly and very accommodating.

It was worth the price. Had one waitress working the entire floor with the hostess and they did an outstanding job. I did not even realize only had one until i was almost done. I wish the area was more cooler. I loved the lighting, a bright room to see our food. I assume there are slight variations on their menu and I enjoyed the little surprises. My husband enjoyed the warm crab legs, which we did not expect. The Prime Rib was a bit dry but that wasn’t an issue. A suggestion - Instead of a Salmon being a hot plate, what about a Stuffed Uhu? Or a stuffed turkey. The omlete station, was an amazing touch to this buffet. The chocolate fountain was sweet and the variations of deserts was what made this place top tier. I’m so happy we got to try out Makana Lani and will return again, with an even larger party.
