Hip, fun, exciting vibe when my girlfriend and I walked in. Dimly lit, with Spanish guitar music playing and everyone chattering, creating privacy via a wall of sound.
We were seated right next to a glass wall, the only table that close to it, and on the other side was a kitchen setup, decorated with Dia de los Muertos skeletons everywhere.
Our host explained that along with their regular menu, there was a special 3 item menu ($8/each - $20/all) to order from, with that food being prepared by Chef Cloyce Martin. He is 14 years old, and was on the tv show 'Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown' where he battled Kutsi's own Chef Chris Tzorin. The kitchen setup we were seated next to was just for Chef Cloyce to do his thing in. We surmised it must be their popup kitchen to accommodate hot talent.
We were excited.
Our server, Quest (sp?) was jovial and 'on' the whole time, just super helpful and attentive.
Chef Cloyce personally brought out and explained each of his dishes and was way charming. When he would prepare desserts, he would turn off his kitchen lights before flambéing and create a huge flame coming off his pan. Dinner and a show! - And we had the best seats.
The fried shrimp was perfect. My girlfriend says the chorizo cake was a little too greasy, I disagree, I thought it was delicious. The ice cream dessert was sweet and warm, those flambéed plantains and berry whipped cream were oh-my-god.
Think tapas plates (menu refers to them as 'bocadillo').
We also ordered street tacos, chorizo clams and fried goat cheese from the regular menu, $8-$10 each. These items were fantastic as well. The sweet, mildly tangy goat cheese, the chewy clam meat attached to the shell (that's how you know it's good, right?) swimming in sauce, the oozing spicy taco flavors - a delightful feast.
Definetly want to dine there again, especially on one of their live music nights.
