Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate. One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

The food was excellent as are the recipes in the Lucques cookbook. The server was efficient and well versed in the menu items but became distant when we objected to the added 4% surcharge for the staff's health insurance. Although the restaurant was quick to remove it, it left a "bad taste" in what otherwise would have been a 5 star experience, Our feeling was that it is the responsibility of the employer to underwrite or contribute to the health insurance costs of its employees, not the dining public.

The baramundi fish was delicious but there were too many flavors and too much citrus. It was hard to find the fish. The appetizer would have been superb but the artichokes were inedible -- too tough and not cut off where it they should have been. Overall, it was very good, but each dish had too many flavors, especially the fish. Considering how incredible I've found most meals there, I was, sadly,disappointed.

I had not been here in 15 years and remember it being very good. The food was average for a fine dining restaurant (nothing memorable or exceptionable). The service was quite good, although you could tell they were trying to turn the table for a second seating. Pretty expensive, which I don't mind paying if it's worth it. It's not. I like to dine for hours and really enjoy a variety of food and wine. This is not a real foodie restaurant. You eat and leave. Skip it. No longer on my top list.
