Behind an unmarked door adjacent to the wine room, guests are transported to District 1 (China Town) in Saigon via Blackhouse’s 28-seat restaurant-within-a-restaurant, LSXO. A spinoff of the Little Sister brand (Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach & Downtown Los Angeles), LSXO is love letter to the culture, heritage, and lineage of Vietnam (Vuong’s relatives hail from the region). While Little Sister is known for its French Vietnamese menu, LSXO follows the same Southeast Asian inspiration with a more refined feel.

Our food choices were good and aesthetically presented. Our waiter was excellent- conversive, precise and very knowledgeable about Vietnamese cuisine. The setting is a small dining area with mildly offensive rap music filled with the N word. The view was exceptional.

Great hidden gem. Usually restaurants with great views aren't the best, not this one. The food is outstanding. The crispy shrimp and sticky rice squares were so delicious. Great desserts as well.

Got a lunch rezo for 2 and sat quite quickly. I have a history in culinary and restaurant management through a culinary school as well as a popular restaurant group. This causes me to look at every detail in an establishment with a higher than average check. In short, I would never go back to LSXO. The ambiance was disjointed. They claim to be a Vietnamese fusion restaurant but played popular rap music. Personally that’s my type of music but if the theme they’re going for is a Vietnamese speakeasy they need to be playing topical music, not just whatever is cool now. Also I didn’t quite understand the clash in design of this spot. They half of the restaurant once you enter is exposed wood boards with plaster, which I liked, but the other half was machine gun wallpaper with butterflies coming out of the barrel and ascended to the ceiling which featured a great recessed ceiling with a cool picture frame style design around the recessed area. The feeling I got was they had a vision but weren’t confident enough to go all the way. Our server was the sweetest gal but she was left alone to serve 6 tables which included make drinks, clean tables, do refills, and buss the dirty plates. She was left in the weeds with no support. There should have been at 2 servers running the speakeasy and a bartender to make drinks. While we were there waiting, I noticed she dropped the food off on the wrong table 2 times. She then moved the already served plate from the wrong table to the right one. Accidents happen but there are strict regulations in place that prohibit this. The nail in the coffin was waiting 30 minutes for one of our two dishes then waiting another hour for our entree. I overheard her saying this is the chef’s 12th day in a row which is also a major infringement on labor laws. All of the gripes I have does not fall on the server and chef, this falls on management. If they want any chance of a future they MUST find new managers who care for their staff.

Everything was delicious. We had the dumplings with black vinegar sauce, the Seabass lettuce, wraps, salmon Crudo, and pho rolls with beef. For dessert we had the cheese kit. Great ambience cool 90s hip-hop in the background. I love you you can’t top. Definitely recommend it.

The food was outstanding. It was fun discovering a small restaurant hidden within another restaurant. Anthony, our server, was attentive and knowledgeable about menu items. It was kind of him to serve me a special dessert to celebrate my graduation from university with three degrees. A great experience overall. Highly recommend it.

We had the highest hopes for this evening and experience. We are two extremely busy high tech professionals from Seattle with two young boys here for spring break. We booked the 9 pm and got a call at 830 pm from the manager saying their internet had crashed and so they would not be able to seat us until 930. We called again and the restaurant offered us bar seating instead so we accepted. When we got there, it was clear that the actual reason for the change was a bigger corporate party. The bartender and waitress were very cordial and comped us some drinks. And the food was amazing. However, we felt completely rushed as the restaurant closed at 10 pm and they both had to clean up before we even finished our meals. We felt like we were inconveniencing the poor staff. Really disappointed at the overall operation.

We had Easter dinner here. This is probably our favorite restaurant in the OC. The space is small w/only 8 tables. Great view of the ocean. Music is very club like (not for young children!) it’s not played so loud that you can’t hold a conversation. The food is AMAZING! So flavorful & unique. The shaky shaky beef is a must. We had the roasted eggplant salad which is tasty. We tried another dish but I don’t recall the name. I know it had vermicelli in it. It was so freaking good. I will always order that from here on.

We ordered the dumplings, egg plant, shredded beef and seabass. It was enough for 3 people. The food was excellent. So was the cozy atmosphere, décor, ocean view with the sunset and the service. This was a great find and we definitely will be regulars.
