A truly unique restaurant with an eclectic assortment of creative dishes that stimulates the palate. Surely misunderstood by many, the true essence of this restaurant is the personalized service and commitment to the finest ingredients used to creat the dish. Even the music, criticized by others too rigid to experience something outside of their lane, was stimulating and refreshing. Pure fun. I can recommend with greatest enthusiasm.

We agree w the previous comments. The music is not in alignment with the creative side of the kitchen. If you are comfortable listening to explicit language bombarding your senses while trying to have a conversation then this is your place. For us this was such a disruptive feature that it voided any recognition for the chef. Maybe take away as an option or choose a playlist that is neutral and more befitting to the culture you are cultivating through the food.

The food was original and excellent. But the restaurant was not in a good location, it was very dark inside and the music was mostly rap. Did not go with a great meal. I wish they would move to downtown Santa Fe and change the sound track.

Third visit in 5 weeks // Each time, the food and service has been outstanding //
A very unique and flavor forward menu from start to finish // Beer and wine choices are well thought out // A GREAT addition to the SF dining scene // Indoor seating comes with music which is sometimes too loud and can impact conversations at tables for 4 or more // Other than that, a top notch one off dining experience //

Thoughts on Liu Liu Liu last Saturday night.

We were expecting extra loud music that got to be annoying…
It was fine…at times talking/listening across the table made for repeating a few times. We enjoyed the mish mash of music overall.

We enjoyed everything we ordered…

The Black Hummus was extra scrumptious…with things like Spanish Black Radish, small Thai Eggplant, cucumber & Kohlrabi to dip into the delicious dip. What we enjoyed about the hummus was that it was heavily infused with Tahini and the creaminess on the palate was almost like a really fine peanut butter…the best I can explain it.

The Artichoke was delicious with the Garlic Aioli. What was most impressive about the dish was the broth the whole Artichoke sat in….it had undertones like a cross between a rich Pho and a French Onion broth.

The popcorn chicken gets an A+ for display in the heavy slant cut fishbowl like container it was served in. When they offered to slice Burgundy Truffles over the top of the nuggets…It really made it exciting. Done well. Tasty, crispy. The coating was delectable.

The star shaped Lamb dumplings in a Harissa sauce with herbs were good but I just wished that I could of tasted more lamb. It was there, yet subtle.

We got both desserts; The drunken chocolate tart was superb…The extreme sweet creaminess of the chocolate was cut perfectly with the Creme Fraiche over the top of the entire dessert.

The cream cheese flan although tasty was outshined by the chocolate dessert. It seemed like a very soft cheese cake…what did stand out on this dessert was the topping. It was an Oolong Tea - Caramel…. that gave the flan a much more decadent flavor experience.

We want to go back to experience the Goat and the Beef Soup.

The kale salad was delicious. The lamb dumplings had little lamb and was so heavy with garlic, that they were inedible. When we mentioned this to the server, he said nothing, did not offer a replacement , and still charged us the full price. The artichoke appetizer would also have been better without the overwhelming garlic in the sauce. The restaurant does not live up to its marketing, not even a little.

What an awesome place to eat. Reminiscent of secret upscale restaurants in New York, Liu Liu Liu serves food and ambiance in a place you would never expect it. It’s nestled between a barber shop and a driving school, but you completely forget the details of where you are once you enter the place. The music is incredibly eclectic, and the menu is as well. It appeared to be ran by just one server and one cook, which is incredible considering the quality of both the service and the food. We had the dry aged bison steak, as well as the lamb pasta, which were both amazing, but the real showstopper was one of the appetizers - the artichoke soaked in a very unique broth. It came with these radishes also soaked in the broth, which offered a flavor I’ve never tasted before. To be honest, out of the 7 dishes we tried, all of them contained a (delicious) flavor I’ve never tasted before. If you want high-end cooking that’s innovative - as well as a place that isn’t in a snobby white table cloth environment - this is the place to go in Santa Fe. I will be returning frequently.

My unbiased review of Liu Lui Lui ...
I was nervous about the limited yet curated food options... have no fear, you will be so happy when the food finally arrives ... no water, no wine, no service for 30 minutes + even after we ordered it was another 15 mins...at this point I had a devining rod in play to find moisture....I digress;)
It's Saturday and I made reservations... the seating inside and out totaled 8 small tables.
The music was not as distracting as the lack of attention to service... and before you all go off on me cuz of covid .. there is 0 management... it's a circus drama environment with a nursing home vibe.
The intention is there but the execution is not.
We sampled 3 dishes ... the hummus, the popcorn chicken, and the swordfish. The hummus was so tahini forward, to me it was like peanut butter... Don't get me wrong.. I love peanut butter when paired with a reserve grape reduction...Welch comes to mind..
The chicken nuggets were in a bowl with fried basil.. really interesting flavors topped of with white truffles but was it $42 worth of chicken or was I just craving the $5 popcorn chicken from Chick-fil-A .... do yourself a favor and get the chicken with the Mac and cheese and the Chick-fil-A sauce combine it in a bowl and shake it until you thighs quiver.... you'll thank me later.
Back to the review... the swordfish was not palatable... it was fishy and chewy and we sent it back.
We asked for more wine, more water but it was as if we were asking for a Jesus like miracle....interestingly enough there was a puddle out front and I walked on top of it as we were leaving.. I'm guessing it's because I was void of food and starving..
They charge an 18% gratuity... on the entire tab so up sell!!!!
We literally would have had 3 more glasses of wine to ease the pain of it all but our glasses sat dry and empty like the promise of good sex after menopause.
I hope the best for this restauran cuz is a cool vibe but they need to manage the staff

We arrived at the restaurant and were pleased to see that all but one table were filled. Good sign we had made the right choice. We had reserved the bar seating as it overlooked the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs at work. As each of our dishes were prepared they were presented to us by the chef with an explanation. It was a wonderful experience. We had 3 different pairings of wine and Welch spring water. We were pleased with a three hour dinner and not being rushed out for another seating. A grand evening.

The food was amazing and the service from the chefs was a delight, we really appreciated the attention to detail with the food and chefs explanation.
Unfortunately, The ambiance is really off and ruins the experience and we are some that go out for the entire dining experience.
It’s listed as a speak easy but that is not what it is at all, we sat outside in a tent with no decor and uncomfortable seats and sitting situation where the staff couldn’t serve us or get to us. It was very uncomfortable.
They told us it was family style because they only serve one dish at a time but it’s not really set up for family style or sharing we should have just ordered our own plates, but I think they discouraged it due to not being able to serve you at once and we were a party of 6.
The music is also really hard to follow and disrupts the energy throughout the night and we were not happy with any of the wine selections.
I will return once more as just a party of 2 to see if that is a better experience.
I really wanted to like this place, I hope they figure out the overall ambiance and what they want this place to be or maybe find a new location, because they have some really fun and different food options.

A very different and exciting dining experience where the dishes, location and the venue are in conflict with one another. Whereas some dishes were absolutely fabulous, some others were excessively salty, perhaps due to liberal use of soy sauce. Expensive experience overall, for what was offered.

As transfers from California, we do miss the variety of Asian cuisines that simply are not found in Santa Fe. Liu Liu Liu is truly a one-of-a- kind dining experience no matter where you hail from. The preparations are intricate and interesting, flavors rich and deep. It is by no means a source of traditional Asian food - more a special night out - and a pricey one - but definitely worth it.

They offer unique water, soft drink and beer/wine menus, each with carefully curated offerings. The food menu was eclectic and enticing, served family-style. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees for two, and it was just the right amount of food. Don't miss the Lamb Buccatini.

We're not fans of loud music, preferring to converse over dinner, so we sat outside next to a heat lamp on the funny little Astroturfed patio surrounded by a fake picket fence. I did find myself humming to Huey Lewis in spite of myself.

The server was very welcoming and attentive, and some of the courses were brought, and described in detail, by the chef.

It wasn't anything like the $5 rice plates we wax nostalgic about, but a lovely splurge and fun, unique experience.

We had a terrific and memorable dinner at Liu Liu Liu. We highly recommend and we would go back happily. It’s cool and hip inside, but the service is attentive and helpful. The liver mousse is smooth and decadent and nicely balanced with the gelee and honey. The baby kale salad is complex, yet harmonious. The swordfish was perfectly cooked with tasty sauce and accompaniments. The lamb bucatini is very good, but not a show stopper like the other three dishes.
This is a great restaurant for people who enjoy interesting food and drink.
It is a bit tricky to find the restaurant in the large shopping plaza. It is in a small strip mall behind the gas station, next to the driving school.

First and foremost, the concept of not have a sign because the place is a hidden gem, is pretension and a real annoyance. Second, the food is ultra spicy and nowhere on the menu or other public resources does it state that; so literally, I couldn’t eat anything we ordered—mind you, the menu didn’t even give a clue to their “heat”. Portions are nice and the concept of the restaurant is admirable. But, specializing in special waters, abs outrageously priced wines is limiting. Truly I love the concept of a true “dining experience” but don’t make every dish so spicy that those that are sensitive to that type of food are left with no selections. Disappointing. Oh, almost forgot, the music is played so loud that you can’t have any discourse with a date, or friends. Truly annoying. Next table asked to turn it down and they were flat out refused! “It’s part of the dining experience.” Again, very pretension all around.

I had read many reviews of the restaurant before going and I'm glad I did. While I appreciated the story of the owner being a water "sommelier", I politely asked for Santa Fe tap water and passed on the $20 bottle being offered on the menu. The restaurant is small but surprisingly chic for being located in a strip center. The menu is creative and unique. My two starters were good, and my entree of popcorn chicken with black truffles shaved table-side was delicious. They have some pretty pricey wines but don't force you to buy an entire bottle. Overall, it was an expensive dinner, but I'm glad Santa Fe has this as a dining option. The other handful of local "fine-dining" eateries are stuffy to me, and cater to the well-heeled old guard. This is a hipper restaurant that I would expect to find in LA or NY. It's small staff are friendly and it's clear their hearts are really in the business.

My wife, daughter and I had a wonderful time at Liu Liu Liu Saturday evening. We had three appetizers: cucumber salad, artichoke, and hummus; three main dishes: bean curd, minced pork, and swordfish; and the two desserts: cream cheese flan, and the chocolate dessert. It was a bit much, we probably would have been better off with one less course, but the food was all delicious. They also have an excellent selection of drinks. The two owners did a lot of our service, and were very informative and charming. The price was at the high end for Santa Fe, but worth it.
