From a design point of view, the firm responsible is Andy Martin Associates. L'Etranger is light and airy, in spite of being reasonably compact: A tribute to Albert Camus, a Neoclassical writer and the precursor of a minimalist approach in writing fiction. L’Etranger Restaurant is one of the freshest experiences in London for a casual drop-in, business lunch or a romantic dinner. It will take you for a culinary journey where 'East meets west'.

Experience at L'Etranger, 2 November was just terrible. Despite Open Table asking for a cc details to book this restaurant and the confirmation email received, the restaurant refused every knowledge about out party although restaurant was absolutely EMPTY. I would have thought that they should have welcomed us with the open arms, despite it was quite obvious they were annoyed we were there. The prices that are shown on-line have either increased by 40% or they just didn't want to offer those to us. We were offered either a la carte or Pre-theater menu @ £35 per person (just to compare, Open Table has 2 courses @£ 17.50 & 3 courses @ £ 22.50). As we had a show to see at Royal Albert Hall (and we told them that!) all of us decided to opt for the set meal apart from one lady who asked to order from a la carte. The GM told we should all had either set meals or a la carte. I complained and he said he would do us a favor. Although we have ordered by 5.30pm it became obvious that the service was very slow when by 6.30pm we have only been served the starters. We repeatedly asked different waiters to speed up. At 6.50pm I have spoken to a waitress asking on how we could possibly have another two courses if the time when we had to leave was 7.15pm. The main courses arrived at 7.10pm when all of us were just fuming. GM said they were a fine dining restaurant, not a quick bite to eat place and so they had to cook everything from the scratch. Bear in mind, the restaurant was EMPTY and the menu was called "Pre-Theatre". Why do they offer such a menu if are not prepared to serve it fast? How did they expect us to get to the RAH if the dessert (they refused to let us have the dessert after the show) came at 7.18pm? I found it outrageous, the GM did not apologize, did not offer any discount or a good will gesture but instead was defensive and on the point of accusing us of taking time to decide what we wanted to eat when ordering the meal. This place is a NO GO.

As I've done many times in the past when making my annual visit to the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, I came late to l'Etranger on a midweek night (much later than I'd booked for in fact, due to the concert overrunning its time). Even though it was midweek, the restaurant was quite busy and had a nice chatty ambience. I had the charolais tartare for starter and the duck two ways with foie gras for main. Both were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Two glasses of Haut Cotes de Nuits complemented the dishes well. I skipped dessert but had a double espresso with a Marc de Condrieu digestif and some petit fours. Service was excellent.

We used to live around the corner of L'Etranger and visit frequently. A couple of years later we thought a revisit was a good idea. Regretfully, the food quality had deteriorated below the level of average pub meal. the colourful decoration of the plate couldn't disguise a bad prepared fish. A prices were always high, but food was good, L'Etranger prices rose even more over the years, inversely related to the quality offered. Service: average and not motivated. Wine list: large book of expensive priced wines. Same bottles at Michelin starred restaurant 20% cheaper. In spite of a big booklet, no/ very limited wine offerings below 50 Pounds/bottle.

The restaurant service was professional, attentive and friendly, very mindful of our need to leave at a time to attend a concert. The signature black cod was the best we've eaten. The food was beautifully presented with intense but delicate flavours. The theatricality of the chocolate rum dessert flambéd at the table was memorable. Will certainly revisit.

Very sweet food, basic service, and overall very dated atmosphere. Would've been cool in the 90's! Really expensive for what you get. Would not recommend. Sorry!

Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here. Only rated it down on ambience because unfortunately for some reason we were the only people there - why I'm not sure because the food & service were excellent. Maybe more of an evening place?

The food as usual was very good squid followed by beef cheek and apricot crumble. However two of their listed wines by the glass were unavailable. the champagne and their desert wines ( Quady Black Muscat ) which was disappointing.

We had two excellent Charolais steaks here and the wine waiter was very helpful and advised us of some very good wines. The girls were lovely and the manager took the time to chat to us about the restaurant and wine cellar in depth while we were getting our coats and prior to leaving. A good experience and well worth a recommendation.

A works dinner. As always a really fun mix of food styles involving Japanese/French influences mainly. The wine list is as good as it gets.
