We had a wonderful lunch! Two families with 4 kids total, while there is no official kids menu, the fries and steak worked out great for them and even the Croq Monsieur (grilled cheese either ham) could be a great choice for them. For the adults the great Mussels especially with blue cheese were awesome. The athmosphere is really nice and the 3rd floor location really quaint (easy access with an elevator or stairs). The wine selection is awesome and relatively reasonably priced. I had the mussels with a side salad, that was really delicious, not your run of the mill salad, but a variety of lettuce, radishes, onion, carrots, beets and a nice tasting vinaigrette. Overall a great spot that is worth a detour/stop. A casual French food place ;) very nice!

Surprised by the review 1 star of Mr ... I came to taste with my boyfriend the three dishes he criticized so much, because I 'm curious. This restaurant is known for its excellent french onion soup and snails, among others. Friends who have already come, recommended the steak and the beef filet. Angus beef can not be a "bad" meat ! It was the first time for us, we usually went in other restaurants in SD or La Jolla, and wanted to try another place. Some friends explained that this place is atypical because very friendly. Veronica and Patrice welcome you as friends. There is not a lot of staff, and it's not an impersonal place. Everyone is important. And it's true ! About the meal: The french onion soup was excellent, no meat broth, so perfect for vegetarians, and very hot, otherwise the cheese does not melt, and cold soup is not good Sir... The snails was wonderful, not too salty, and the sauce ... yummy ! The steak was not served with sauce, just grilled. So I guess that Mr... asked for it. To understand his comments, I did the same thing, and surprise! Excellent pepper sauce. I asked Veronica, the owner's wife and waitress, about how the pepper sauce was made. It is obviously homemade. A1 sauce ? It's a joke Sir ? I hope you complained about this pitiful meal you had. But I don't think so, because if you did, now that I know the owners, I know they would have done something for you. It's easier to write a very bad review and to be offensive, than to complain when you are at the restaurant. Some people do that ! And I know that owners can't respond ! Whatever, everything was excellent. And we will come back with great pleasure ! Thanks to the Chef and owner, and his wife, for this warm welcome and this good food !

We had a very pleasant meal at Le Petit Bistrot and were surprised the restaurant wasn't more crowded. Service was excellent, food was very good and the restaurant is pleasant and quiet. It isn't more expensive than many la Jolla restaurants. My salad was large and tasty. His French Onion soup was a little bland. My husband and I each had a different steak. Both were well prepared and tender. Pommes frites were excellent. Portions are much bigger than those at its competitor across the courtyard. We enjoyed the evening and would go back!

We were in town for our nephew's wedding. We looked at reviews of La Jolla restaurants and settled on Le Petit Bistrot. We had no idea the restaurant was actually owned by a French couple who had come over here just this year. It has a charming atmosphere. The husband is the Chef and his wife was both our hostess and server. My wife had their mussels which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the rack of lamb which was done to perfection. The Chef came out to meet us and his wife was very attentive. We sat on their 3rd story veranda facing westward toward the sunset. It was a beautiful evening which greatly added to our dining experience. We're hoping they make it and make it big. It's always refreshing to see nice people pursuing the American Dream. We highly recommend the Le Petit Bistrot.

Very nice experience, suffers from a 2nd floor location, but is is a pleasant restaurant. Very French....french music, french wine list, partners are french, the menu on the easel in front for the restaurant looks like it could be in a small village. Very good food, more creative than Bistro du March....they have not changed their lunch menu since they opened. This restaurant deserves more support from La Jolla locals.

We were excited to see a new French restaurant come into the Village and this one did not disappoint! The Beef Bourguignon and Poulette were really delicious! Salads were also healthy and light. Their corkage is $25 and for locals who would continue to patronize.. that should be reduced. At least that has been our experience over 40 years of dining ....

From the moment we walked in we were delighted with our choice to celebrate a special occasion. My wife and I love France and french food and thought we would give this spot a try based on Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. We started with a charcuterie and cheese tasting plate and the portions were generous and varied. 4 kinds of cheese, 5 kinds of cured meats, grapes, candied pecans, bread. It was amazing, and high quality. The wine selection was somewhat limited but the choices were outstanding and great value. We got a bottle of a fantastic Cote-du-Rhone for $32. For entrees, I had the sole menueire and my wife the sea bass and they were both perfectly prepared. The service by native french was personable, informative, and perfectly timed. They made our night very enjoyable and we will be back. We were surprised it wasnt more packed on a Saturday....so I have mixed feelings about getting it publicity because once people learn about this place it will have a long wait :) But I hope it succeeds as it should, so I am getting the truth out. PS - I left my credit card behind by mistake and they called me not 5 minutes after I left to return. Great attentiveness and service.

We've been here a few times and we've always enjoyed our food. Many great food on the menu, it's hard to pick one. From the burger to filet mignon to beuef bourguignon they are all delicious. Owner Melanie and the waiter are attentive. The patio seating is great with beautiful view. One thing that maybe could use an improvement is the inside ambiance. We look forward to trying other things on the menu :)

While the décor is quite nice, the lack of people, and somewhat bifurcated, awkward layout made the atmosphere much too quiet and cold.   For the ambiance, I would suggest they turn the nice French music up a bit more, and maybe add some rugs, warmer flooring? Entrance had unprofessional paper print-outs taped to the doors, and near our table there were tacky flashing snowflake lights in the window. The servers were very nice, and actually French, which is always a plus. I started with a glass of wine, which was possibly the stingiest pour I've ever had in a restaurant.  It's one thing to get a small pour in France, where a glass of wine is 6 euros, but not in America where it's $17-$20/glass! Only reason I didn't complain was that they were out of the $10 Bordeaux Superieur, so poured me the $17/glass wine at the $10 price.  Still frustrating though to have finished my glass in about 10 minutes.  If I had paid $17 for it, I would have been outraged.  The strangest part is that no one ever offered me another glass!  Perhaps they didn't want to "waste" any more of the pricier bottle at the $10/glass price?   Dinner was ok, but far from excellent, and for the price, they were missing something in both quantity and refinement. For dessert, we ordered the fondant au chocolat (actually very good when it finally came), which we were told would take about 10 minutes.  No problem, we said. About 15 min later, the server came out to say that something had happened to our dessert, so they would have to make a new one, which would be another 10 minutes or so.  We weren't in a hurry, so we didn't have a problem waiting, however would have greatly appreciated a little something on the house for the wait!  A little digestif, glass of wine, etc.  At the very least, they should have discounted or taken the dessert off.  Nope - everything charged full price. Words are cheap, and so is the owner apparently. Dommage - we certainly won't be back.

La Petit Bistro is a good addition to La Jolla. The food is good and a bit of a different menu -- more French than Italian. If you are gluten free, the buckwheat crepes on the lunch menu (and they accommodated us at dinner one night as well) are great for gluten free people. The room is pleasant and often not crowded. And the dessert with lemon curd, meringue and lemon sorbet is just terrific.

So glad we tried this little place in La Jolla. We went to dinner, but I would absolutely go back for breakfast, lunch or brunch if they are open for those times too. The food is very authentic - I had the escargot and the beef which was so tender, you could cut it with a knife. I love the fact that they are small business as well, so I definitely will continue to support them ...
