Le Colonial - Houston
A lavish downstairs dining room is adorned with period photography, overhead fans and leather banquettes, and flanked by a Parisian-Style sidewalk café. A dramatic staircase leads to a second level lounge, where a large bar, mahogany millwork and plush seating create the perfect atmosphere for cocktails and light fare. Custom louvered shutters surround the west veranda, while an additional terrace on the north side is fully enclosed and features additional dining tables. The Lotus Room, anchored by a mural created by Swedish muralist Jonas Wickman rendered in gentle tropical tones, seats up to 14 for private dinners and wine tastings.

Different and always great both good and service
Food and service was excellent. My servers were very attentive. Only complaint was the noise level from so many tables. If there was music I could not hear it. Overall very good experience.
Our main issue was all the dishes were way too sweet… Many people don’t like the sweet trend and they prefer savory dishes… This restaurant needs to consider to offer more savory as most people don’t want to eat sugar for dinner. The quality otherwise was great but everything was so sweet I just felt over sugared for 2 to 3 days afterwards.
Excellent lunch followed by delicious Vietnamese coffee
Food and service are top notch. Disappointed they no longer serve brown rice.
The food and ambience is always fantastic and the wait staff doesn’t rush you. One of my favorite spots!
A bit too loud otherwise the dinner and wine were great.
The Food at le Colonial was excellent. Very tasty, well prepared and presented. We were sitting outside on the patio which is much calmer than inside. The only complaint from Our visit is the price of a top shelf Margherita. Without being noticed by the server a small glass for $44 was quite in excess of what was expected.
Service was not the best. Very arrogant and not at all friendly
The air vents blowing freezing cold air also was not comfortable at all
Service not the best (not at the same level as Chicago). Appreciated the Zinfandel education from the GM/Sommelier. Excellent Red Snapper!
Really enjoyed this! The service was outstanding the food surpassed our expectations. Both cocktails we ordered were excellent. We will be back!
Even though busy service was prompt and not rushed - certainly appreciate both
Way way too loud downstairs for dinner conversation. We four struggled to hear each other. Otherwise, service and dinner was very nice. We will be sure to request the upstairs lounge dining area next time.
Food delicious and menus explained clearly.
Maybe the salmon had to be caught because we think that's what delayed the food.
I used to enjoy the place and this time was a terrible experience, didn't even wish us happy anniversary. Also didn't pay attention to us like you would expect, the other server when asking for hot sauce was very upset. The food got us both sick the next day as it seemed like it was old and just left overs warmed up for us.
Good Morning, Id like to learn more about your experience and what you ate on your most recent visit. We take illness from food very very seriously and need to gather more information. If you would be so kind to reach out to me at martin@lecolonialhouston. that would be terrific. I look forward to hearing back from you. Regards, Martin
The Restaurant Weeks menu is a very good value and has a good selection. There were four choices for each of the three courses and all were very appealing choices. Our group of four really enjoyed their selections (crispy egg rolls, soft egg rolls, rice crepes, shaking beef, braised beef, salmon, crepe brûlée, an$ opera cake). We enjoyed our meal choices so much that we went back two days later to try the other choices on the Restaurant Weeks menu. The second time we went happened to be a Monday night when the have 50% of their wines under $100. That was a wonderful deal so we were able to enjoy a very nice bottle of wine for less than its normal price at a liquor store and without the usual restaurant mark-up. The service was was attentive without being fussy. We highly recommend Le Colonial and are looking forward to dining there again, hopefully during the cooler months as the patio seating is very inviting.
Restaurant Weeks Menu was a good deal, for lunch and dinner. The young Maitre d' was very cordial and attentive. The ambiance great complimented by the nice design and the service people were on time. Food was not very upscale but was good taste, simple and "straight forward " basic. If you have a sophisticated pallet this is not the place for you. If you want a place to have a meal with someone casual it is the place to be. My experience overall was: Food OK, Ambiance good
Went there for happy hour before movies. Poor food quality, $18 for 5 dumplings, half cooked. Cocktail came later almost after all the food was finished (ordered at the same time). Service insincere. Won’t go back.
The food was delicious. We went for Houston Restaurant Weeks and everything was amazing. The service was a little spotty and our waitress disappeared for long periods of time. Other than that, we were very pleased.
Excellent food and service. Upstairs verandah could use a bit more space between tables so that people don’t hit chairs back-to-back.
The only uncomfortable thing was the noise. At certain time I could barely listen to my friends
Had a 1pm reservation and had to wait 30 minutes past my reservation time to be seated. People where being seated before us who didn’t have reservations. The staff was very slow, waited another 30 minutes for our meal and it was on the cold side
The food was great, the service was really good! The noise was a bit too loud sometimes but everything tasted amazing!
Originally they had set up a table for our party of eight in the middle of main floor. It was extremely noisy so we asked to move outside. The maitre d’ quickly took care of us. Service was excellent.
We joined another couple for dinner and ordered from the restaurant month menu and it was delicious! They offered a variety of items and we all ordered different things and shared. The portions where all large especially the first course. We followed up with drinks upstairs in the bar on the balcony! We’ll definitely be back!
Everything about the service and food was perfection! From the hostesses to the waiter and the bus person the service was impeccable. We had a variety of dishes for the table and each one was as flavorful as the next. The only downside ( it would absolutely not keep me from going back!) is the noise level which is understandable in a full house and decor that is not sound absorbing. One suggestion...lose the giant tree/plant in the middle of the room!
Thanks for a lovely evening!
Nice to get some upscale Asian cuisine. Nicely designed restaurant.
service was off today. i do not think i should have to wait over 25 minutes to get entree plates removed and some dessert
food is always the best but really slow this time
Outstanding restaurant with great and innovative selections!
NO black napkins so I left with white lint all over my black trousers.
The Restaurant Week menu seemed to offer 3 courses, but we did not know that the third - dessert- was not included and were charged for dessert on that special menu.
CHEAP of this restaurant.
Good Afternoon, Thank you for your feedback. Note that I will speak with the team as we always have a stock of black napkins for those guests that have dark pants or suits on. My apologies for not having that available. For Houston Restaurant Weeks restaurants are required to offer two courses for lunch and three courses for dinner which we both adhere to. On our lunch menu we offer a reduced price of our dessert menu of $5 per dessert. Hope you have a great day! Martin
Our food was great but our waitress was really awful. It took her about 15 minutes to take our drink order and an hour to take our food order. The manager handled it well but it didn’t improve the service.
My second time here and they still have NOT staffed the restaurant with enough waiters. Incredibly slow.
I went twice during HRW . It was excellent. It was actually a bargain, not like some others. I hope to go back one more time before HRW is over for 2019.
Have dined at Le Colonial in Chicago many times and a great experience. The noise level when being seated at Houston location was unbearable.....loud children and loud adults. We would have left but noticed an upstairs bar which was totally empty. The two servers were attentive and really excellent! We enjoyed an hour of quiet dining until a first date, clearly, couple showed up talking at the top of their lungs about sports. Why or why do Americans have to be so loud. We are American. Ranting...we were in Bonaire a few days before having lunch and 4 adults an 5 children sat close to us. They were from the Netherlands and had the ability to carry on a normal and non-annoying conversation.
Love Le Colonial! Been there many times and every time it is outstanding. They had a great menu for resturant weeks yesterday.
The food was good, but the wait staff was not terribly attentive. For example, no one offered coffee with dessert. The decor is nothing out of the ordinary, and the food prices are too high for what you get. If you valet park, don't bother trying to text the valet as the ticket tells you do to; the valets admit that doesn't work at all. I doubt we'll go back; there are too many other better places in Houston.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for these service mis steps. We have addressed this with your server so that this does not occur again in the future. Be advised that we will speak with the District's valet company to investigate as to why the texting for your car doesn't work. We hope to welcome you back to our restaurant again in the future. Have a great day!! Martin
Great food with Houston Restaurant Week menu. It was very crowded and noise level was high. This was on a Sunday afternoon late lunch! Think I will try it again early on a week night. Delicious opera cake for dessert but it was not comped. That is unusual.
Always interesting cuisine, however extremely high noise level detracts from atmosphere.
Food was very tasty and well prepared. The table was ok but the servers running around tending to a big party next to us was annoying. No apology from the waitstaff ad the set down trays of food and carried off dishes and just kept buzzing our table. I called the manager over and he marginally improved the situation but it was obvious the 15 guest table was more important than just a couple dining. Don’t accept a table near a big party at this place - you will be sorry
