La Petite Grocery
The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s been standing for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.
Always a fan favorite. I little bit of away from the Quarter. Great local haunt.
Food and service were excellent. Perfect spot for a special occasion or date. Highly recommend.
Everything was wonderful!
Very nice waitress. We were not rushed, food was great and atmosphere pleasant.
We went to celebrarte my 45 birthday with my husband and two friends. The service was perfect the girl that was our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The somalier provided us with great wine recommendations and was very patient. Good was superb with amazing flavors and very well balanced. Noise was a bit too much and it was hard to hear our conversation. Overall it was a great evening!
The food was amazing, maybe the best cheeseburger in the universe.
Our server seemed a little phony and hard to relate to.
For such a lovely room and beautiful food, I have no idea why there was classic rock in the speakers. It seemed like an afterthought and really turned a 5-star experience into something less.
Every visit to New Orleans involves a dinner at LPG. Enough said! :)
We had a very pleasant evening here. The food was creative and delicious and the service was great.
Too noisy for conversation. Find the right corner or small table.
My husband ordered a pork chop. The first one he was served was cold so he sent it back the second time they brought it it was cooked so much he could hardly cut it to eat it. We sent that one back to and at least they took his entrée off of our check. Otherwise the service was excellent and my food was good
Beautiful, elegant room. Excellent food, service was professional yet personal. Best meal I had while visiting NO. And that’s saying something.
In town for the National Championship game and decided to eat here for lunch. I’ve been here a couple times for dinner but never for lunch, so it was a nice enjoyable experience once again.
Food is always flawless and a great value. One of the best restaurants in America's greatest restaurant city.
Great! Great !
Incredible food. Great service. Must eat the blue crab beignets.
Great —- always love my time there. Great staff
We had the blue crab beignets which were to die for and you can order singles. It would be hard to eat more than one as they were very rich. But oh so yummy. I got the pan roasted scallops for my lunch and I cannot even tell you how much I loved them. The almonds added the perfect crunch to the buttery scallops. My husband had the rabbit which he loved!!! And the greens that it was served with were so delish! Our server was fantastic as she told us all her favorites and gave excellent recommendations. When visiting Nola I would definitely put this place on your list! Only disappointment was I wasn’t able to get the famous bloody mary because it is only served at Sunday brunch.
Service and quality has gone down significantly since the opening of Justine. A noticeable change of focus away from this restaurant has occurred and will be tough to regain.
Although "out of the way" in the western part of Magazine Street, this little place is worth the taxi ride. All of the servers we've encountered are friendly and quite knowledgable regarding both food and wine. I never write "reviews," but the outstanding quality of LPG demands I deviate from my norm.
My birthday dinner with my hubby was romantic at La Petite Grocery. We were seated right next to the window, the lighting was nice and dim. Ambiance is spot on, and the food was amazing! Ricotta dumplings were heavenly, shellfish stew is rich and delightful. Was served a complimentary scoop of pumpkin ice cream for my bday. Thanks guys for making my bday special ❤️
On vacation. Good was exquisite, especially the short ribs. Would definitely go back
Outstanding restaurant, food and service.
No trip to NOLA is complete without an evening or afternoon in this restaurant. While other legendary places are filled to bursting based on past accolades, La Petit Grocery earns more respect and fresh accolades every day. You will not be disappointed.
Dinner was just ok. Chicken had no special flavor as though the chef is just going through the motions after years of doing the same thing. Guest hamburger was very good - really what would recommend a return.
Change the menu for new year eve but no update on booking . Plus really costal food with very normal cooking . Nothing spl I can say . Really bad experience
This place is lovely. Truly. It is a beautiful building with a lot of charm. We came on NYE and booked way in advance. I used to live in NOLA and had heard excellent things about this place. Maybe the pre-set menu just wasn’t my taste, maybe the atmosphere was just different for the holiday, but I felt like I spent a lot more money than I wanted to for an underwhelming evening. There were two of the four dishes that I enjoyed and they didn’t blow me away. Just sad more than anything that it wasn’t what I pictured in my head. Maybe I would try this place again; but probably not. Service was good enough, it seemed the staff/host were overwhelmed being that it was a holiday.
The food was just fantastic!
This was our favorite dining experience in a city full of great restaurants. Blue crab beignets and shrimp and grits were stand outs . Would return here and recommend wholeheartedly.
Beautiful and atmospheric. Elegant, not stuffy. Fashionably dressed crowd. Great service, especially considering how busy they were. Food very good, but not the best we had in New Orleans. Crab beignets a let down, not lots of flavor and seemed a little undercooked/mushy in center. The red snapper very good as was the citrus dessert. Always hate it when first-rate restaurant like this doesn’t have good bread.
The food , service , everything was excellent We were party of 7 visiting from Boston and everyone loved their meal.
Outstanding food and service
Very creative dishes
I feel like I am in an upscale Paris bistro
Nice to return to New Orleans and have our first dinner on this trip at La Petite Grocery. It’s classic on several levels.
Beautiful and tasty food. Blue crab beignets were to die for
Always a pleasant and unique dining experience ! Entire staff is cordial, efficient, attentive !
Deliciousness. Starting from the cocktails to dessert. So good.
Really nice food and environment! Will visit again when in NOLA
My partner and I have been going to La Petite for years on special occasions. I have recommended it to many friends that visit. Of all the excellent places to eat in this city nothing tops La Petite in my eyes. I was away for grad school so this was the first time back in over two years. Same excellent food and service. Please never get rid of the steak tartare and butterscotch pudding. Thank you for a delightful visit.
Great experience! The ricotta dumplings were outstanding. Loved the apple slaw and roasted carrots!
