La Petite Grocery
The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.

Fantastic gem in Uptown
Flavors were average. Service was spotty. Some food was cold when brought out to the table. Maybe I was expecting too much knowing it’s reputation. But in my opinion it fell significantly short.
I always enjoy the atmosphere, food, and great service at La Petite. A true dining experience.
We had a really good meal and the service was fantastic!
Excellent as always. The soup and flank steak were wonderful. The chess pie for dessert was also standout. This was our 32nd anniversary dinner and we’re very pleased. Alex and the staff in the dining room were wonderfully attentive.
My partner and I went to La Petite Grocery on a date based on the reviews. The crab beignets were really good, but the food was otherwise just ok. The servings were much smaller than what was pictured. For example, we ordered the ricotta dumplings and it only came with four dumplings. I always check the menu photos ahead of time so I know what I’m ordering and it was a huge disappointment. I’ve had much better experiences at other restaurants for the same price. The service itself was pretty awful. I saw the poor service mentioned in a few other reviews, but we decided to give it a go anyway. The waitresses acted like they didn’t want to be there. They were distracted, sarcastic, gossipy, and unprofessional. We kept overhearing their private conversations. I don’t plan on going back.
We had a party of eight that became nine and they couldn’t have been more gracious. The food was amazing from start to finish. Service was exceptional. This will remain one of my favorite meals and I cannot wait to go back!
My wife and I were so impressed with the professionalism and attentiveness of the entire staff! All were A Game players!
The food was exceptional. The blue crab beignets were incredible. The shrimp and grits with Tasso were very unique and tasty.
Alex, our server added an extra level to the meal with his spot on suggestions and guidance.
Finally, the butterscotch puddling was phenomenal!
Counting the days to our next visit!
Surprisingly below average experience. All four meals were cold. Neighboring table also sent their food back. Did acknowledge the mistake but nothing to make it right. Too many good restaurants in Nola to rush back to LPG. Bummer.
All the food was wonderful but the blue crab beignets were out of this world!
Always outstanding. We brought some friends from NYC who hadn’t been before, and they were truly impressed. The blue crab beignets remain divine and the turtle bolognese is a must when it’s on the menu. The servers couldn’t be friendlier.
Great food, and great service made for a very enjoyable evening.
Friendly professional service, wide variety of tempting, delicious, and well-presented dishes. Very nice vibe but not too loud.
One of the *must* French Restaurants that this city has to offer. Incredible food and service. Most recently I had their incredible Ricotta Dumplings and their take on Biscuits and Gravy, both heavenly. If you're there for lunch make sure to grab the monkey bread before it sells out!
Fresh ingredients, nice presentations, novel and interesting menu, superb service and thoughtful wine list.
My review is based on my outdoor seating. It was a nice venting out and the service and food were excellent. However, the outdoor tables are on the sidewalk right by the curb and there was an idling limo by us the entire dinner. I would definitely return but only if I had indoor seating.
Food was amazing, Cecelia our server was excellent and fun, drinks spot on and the ambiance was lovely! Would definitely go back!
They staff was so wonderful. We love Rainy and Amber. They made us feel so welcoming and comfortable. Like we were visiting family. The food was amazing!!! Everything we had we Loved. We are here on vacation but planning to go back before we leave.
Great food - and service was spot on!
Our waitress Justine was delightful and the maitre d, Curty, took time out of his day to talk to us about New Orleans. We're visiting from PA and it was fun to talk to a local. Food was wonderful and they had a nice selection on the menu.
Delish!! Would recommend to anyone . A must in NOLA!
Excellent food and service!
Explosión of flavors, with a delicate balance. Had a the ricotta cheese dumplings simply melt in your mouth.
Cauliflower soup drizzled with extra Virgin olive oil very very rich but not filling. Breaded Duck loved the fresh sauerkraut Layered between the juicy crispy duck was a surprisingly refreshing sensation.
Food was unbelievable! Staff was attentive! Ambience fabulous!
What a disappointment. I have always loved La Petite grocery. However last night's meal was not up to par. The Short rib special was burnt and stringy. There was little sauce and it lacked flavor and richness. The dumplings were tasteless dough balls. The Beet salad and dessert were excellent. I will come back but with great reservation... I hope they can bounce back. The ambiance and service were as expected- excellent.
Another wonderful meal at a wonderful restaurant. Always excited to bring guest and explore the menu. From the excellent drinks to the desert is always an exciting trip. Last night started with a squash soup for some and the spare rib appetizer for others. The fish special was to die for. Finished up with this great chocolate fudge cake and coffee. Our waitress was on spot. Thanks for a wonderful night.
We were celebrating our 34th anniversary. Service was so terrible we left after 35 minutes without even receiving the bread (only bread!) we ordered.
Very nice outdoor brunch. Great patient service (our daughter was 30 min late) good food. Esp the dumplings and soup of the day. Kitchen sent out working eggs and bread for my husband server noticed and offered to correct…which was nice but he already began to eat as we waited quite a while for our entrees.
I was really looking forward to this dinner it was good, but overall our food was cold- the plates were hot but the meat was very cold. My husband's steak was cold, my duck was very cold. I did send mine back and it was corrected. I think maybe I just had too high of expectations. I had been waiting so long to eat here and it was good, but not amazing.
The service though I can say was GREAT!
Amazing ambiance, staff and food. If I am ever back in New Orleans I will definitely return.
Everything was fabulous!!
great food. great friendly and appropriately attentive service. would go again.
Love this restaurant. We come back every time we visit New Orleans. This is truly fine dining and the Crab Beignets are a true delight.
We had read the reviews, watched the food network, and made reservations. We expected the crab beignets to be “the best thing we ever ate”…they were not. They were good and the roasted scallops were outstanding. We followed this will mediocre gumbo and a highly overrated cheeseburger. We were disappointed.
10 year anniversary
The service and food were amazing!!! I would definitely recommend this place!!!!
I was disappointed in the amount and quality of the LPG Breakfast Plate given the $17.00 price. The bacon was regular store bought bacon; not the thicker cut. The biscuit was not moist and fluffy.
We were celebrating my Mother’s upcoming 90th birthday.
All of my seating requests were honored: a table near the door and on the perimeter of the room to better secure my Mother’s walker and to make it easier for her to hear and take part in the conversation. We were very appreciative.
The crab beignets were dynamite but the rest of the main dishes were not good. All of the poached eggs were hard boiled and the flavor was very underwhelming.
Confusing place - nice restaurant but had a burger on menu and chicken sandwich as the special.
