La Petite Grocery
The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.

First time dining at La Petite Grocery. The food and ambiance were amazing! The ricotta dumplings were immaculate as well as the turtle bolognese. The service could have been better
Great food, great service, great place to eat!!
Delicious food, great service! One of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans.
Wanted to have a fine dining experience. They had an outdoor seating option. Appreciated that the hostess confirmed COVID vaccination status. Had the heirloom tomato special for my appetizer. Was especially fresh as the tomatoes were chilled. Lovely salsa verde and nice varietals. My husband had the pork belly which was well prepared and tasty. Had the grouper special which had beets, string beans and made for a wonderful fall dish. Hubby had the lamb which was tender, served with grits and roasted vegetables. Was seasoned perfectly. They have a great cocktail menu.
Great service,meal, ambience.
Justin’s food is always amazing!!
Not going there again
Celebrating a milestone.
Excellent food. Of all the higher end restaurants in New Orleans, it is my favorite and go-to for me to take out-of-town guests to show them the Real restaurants, not the tourist places. The best part of LPG is the staff. Our wait staff was excellent and outstanding with the correct amount of attentiveness to us - not too much, not too little. Without the excellent staff, the food would have lost its appeal, no matter how good it is. I have made a point of eating out this week mostly to support our restaurant staff. Please pay them a living wage. I would gladly pay more for LGP dinner if they can live off their wages. My tip should be lagniappe.
Jeff was the best waiter in the world. So friendly and gave great recommendations on the menu. Had a fantastic dinner with my friend.
Lovely evening! Very good food but menu is a bit limited
Wonderful service and the staff made us feel extra special as we were celebrating our anniversary
The food was tasty but my entree did not have much to eat (shellfish stew). I usually don’t eat bread at restaurants but asked for some because there really was not enough to eat. The crab beignets were delicious.
Fabulous!! Loved the blue crab beignets!!! Definitely recommend
Excellent meal, great service and very nice ambience. I would highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back.
My party ordered the menu sirloin medium rare and the burger, medium. The steak was undercooked. Raw rather than rare in the center. The burger also was undercooked, probably medium rare. The fries that came as the side to the burger were cold and the serving was made up of small bits, probably less than 1 inch long. The heirloom tomato with burrata app was disappointing. I was served three tomato wedges, two halves of cherry tomatoes and less than a teaspoon of burrata. Our server was excellent. The food was extremely disappointing
Delicious food, wonderful service and pleasant ambience. We really enjoyed dining here and would come back. Tried many items on menu and all were delicious! Blue crab beignets and shrimp and grits, amazing!! Signature burger, wonderful. Fresh fish was perfect. Good wine selection.
The food was great. If you like bloody Marys you have to get the big hammer bloody Mary. It was amazing
I haven't been disappointed yet! I've tried various items on the menu and must confirm everything is excellent! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.
The blue crab beignets and tomato salad were a delicious start to our meal. The four of us shared the gulf shrimp and grits, brioche pain perdu, pan roasted yellowfin tuna, tabbouleh and local greens salad. With the exception of the tabbouleh, everything was amazing! We thought that the tabbouleh needed parsley - it was mostly the bulgur wheat with some feta cheese. The service was excellent, and we will definitely return!
Excellent restaurant. Fantastic cocktails. Interesting and delicious starters, salads and main dishes. Try the rabbit.
Great night! It was a first visit and it definitely lives up to all the hype.
Outstanding. Love the La Petite Grocery! Blue Crab Beignets are the best…
The service was above & beyond! Food is always so good! Brought two out of town colleagues & they couldn’t stop raving!
Food was very tasty!
Good service, ambiance and food! Portions are good for sharing.
One of our favorites -- staff great, drinks amazing, food - especially the daily specials - always fresh and well prepared/presented. Don't walk away without trying the decadent crab beignets!
Incredible brunch and service. Really enjoyed spending my birthday brunch here.
Jeff, our waiter, was very personable and knowledgeable. The food was beyond compare, as it always is. Our compliments to the chef and staff.
We had our son's rehearsal dinner at La Petite Grocery on Jan. 7, 2010. It was spectacular and we've never been disappointed since.
Thanks for being such a great restaurant in New Orleans. We recommend y'all to all family and friends.
The service was good. The food was OK not bad but not great either compared to some of the other restaurants visited this visit.
one of our favorite restaurants , the service and food always great
We had a wonderful dinner last night. The entrees, tuna and fish stew, were both outstanding. The tuna dish was creative and delicious as was the melon dessert. We enjoyed a lovely rose. They had a very nice selection to chose from. The ambiance of the restaurant is very charming and welcoming. Our server was top notch. I highly recommend this delightful restaurant.
Excellent food, drinks, and atmosphere! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant is over the top fabulous!! Do not miss the crab beignets!!!
When we first arrived and I looked at the menu I wished it were a little more extensive. We ended up ordering things that are not in our normal eating repertoire. I am so glad we did! The appetizers, sides and main dishes were fantastic. Everything was expertly prepared, with layers of flavor and great presentation. Our waitress was new and enthusiastic. Anything she did not know she found out immediately for us. We sat outside, and no one else was out there which was lovely. I was not a huge fan of any of the desserts, but the rest of my party loved the ice cream.
We have anticipated our trip or La Petite Grocery for sometime. The service was good and our server, Ryan, was great. The food was not as impressive. The crab beignets had an unpleasant taste! The crab stuffing was good but I couldn’t eat the breading. I had the lamb. It was fatty and tough. My husband had the hanger steak. While it was tasty it was also tough. Not what we expected from a restaurant of this caliber.
This was an awesome restaurant to dine at. The ambiance was super chic and southern. Our appetizers and meals were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the pork belly and blue crab beignets for appetizers. The turtle bolognese entree. Never did I think I’d try turtle but I loved it. Don’t miss this sweet little spot on Magazine Street.
