La Petite Grocery
The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.

Excellent food, wonderful service, quaint setting.
It was really a great evening with our college girl. An absolutely perfect evening with great service and delicious food.
Went with 3 couples and had a great time! The service was great, the food was excellent!
Amazing in every way. Attentive service, great tasting, creative, beautifully plated.....what a delightful experience.
Eating at the bar is always a treat on Saturday nights!
NOTE THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON SERVICE, NOT FOOD. We visited La Petite Grocery a few years ago and loved it, so we were excited to try it again. We travel to NOLA once every couple of years to enjoy the special experiences that only fine dining in NOLA can provide. We literally come to NOLA to eat our way across the city :) We made a reservation for 9:00 pm Saturday, and got a text at 8:30 saying our table was ready, so scooted down there as fast as we could to be considerate. The host was nice, and we were seated at a back table closest to the bathrooms. I didn’t love the table but I remembered the food being great so decided to go with it. We were not visited by any waitstaff for about ten minutes, then one guy visited and was very sassy for unknown reasons, then another waiter finally came over ten minutes later and said “I guess I am taking over your table now” in a weird tone. My husband and I were confused and it was an awkward thing to hear. The whole thing was just off, and felt like there was something going on that we didn’t know about. I decided to leave because I refuse to spend my money in a vibe that just feels odd. We visited this restaurant after having eaten at Antoines, Bayona, and Commanders Palace in the past week with EXCELLENT service and food. The prices at LPG are on point with those restaurants, so the service should be too. We got all dressed up and took a nice car out to magazine, we had invested in a nice night out and it sucked to go back to our house hungry and frustrated. I was really disappointed to not eat the food as I’m pretty sure it would have been great, but I won’t stay where I don’t feel welcome. Note that they did comp our two drinks once we informed them that we were leaving.
get the turtle bolognese and the blue crab beignets!!!
A really nice experience. Great food and service. Would definitely recommend
The service was exceptional! And as always, the meal was terrific.
The food is unique and fabulous!
Perfect New Orleans charm!!
Our reservations were at 12:30. We were told of the fish sandwhich special. And a while after we ordred (3 of us ordered it), we were told that they ran out. We had to re-order. Just a little aggravating. It was our first time. We had a great waiter and we loved the ambiance and the food.
Had a birthday lunch with some close friends. Everything was set perfectly, and I highly recommend the chocolate cake.
The food and the service are stellar. The dining experience is delicious and in a comfortable setting. Great wines by the glass and the waitstaff and entire team are top notch.
Outstanding restaurant in every respect. Very innovative and perfectly executed.
Our waitress was fantastic and the food was amazing. They even made a great “mock tail” for our 16 year old
TOO MUCH SALT IN THE FOOD!
Everything about La Petite was A1
Interesting creative menu with friendly service.
Food was absolutely first class. Very covid aware. Service lacked a little attention - we have to remind them several times for items. But otherwise lovely place.
Appetizers all good.. Tilefish special was great. Shrimp and grits not so much. Shrimp were rubbery. Alligator dish was so so. Desserts were a mixed bag. Still had a nice dinner. Excellent service and atmosphere.
Consistently 10/10. The turtle bolognese is a must, the special catfish was amazing, and the desserts are always incredible. My favorite restaurant in the neighborhood and the menu has something for everyone so it’s great for visitors and locals alike.
Great place for ladies lunch and cocktails before shopping on Magazine!
Gia was a good server and my seat at the window was great. Staff was upbeat and friendly.
Green salad was good. Tile fish ( not my favorite was ok. The problem was even with the sauce on the side , everything was bathed in some kind of fat. Since I dine out 360 nights: year , I would like to have a healthy option
I love this restaurant! Chef always has amazing specials we had the seared tuna on a bed of white beans... delicious.
Great service. Great food. Lovely interior
Ryan was the best waiter ever!!!!!
Amazing food. Good drinks. Server was excellent
We had a fantastic time at La Petite Grocery! The food was delicious and our server, Colleen was probably the most pleasant server we’ve had in a LONG time! We will be returning soon and requesting her.
We had an outstanding meal with some local friends on our visit to New Orleans!
The crab beignets were amazing and I'd also highly recommend the Shrimp & Grits, not the usual, a completely upscale version. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and the ambiance is lovely.
The food is fabulous, unique and delicious. I love looking at the coffered walls and ceiling, dining in a building that’s 100+ years old.
Great food and great sevice!
It was my birthday and we had made a reservation a week in advance. At first we were sat at a table right next to the door and were a little disappointed. My husband spoke with the manager and simply requested a different table. They were very busy and even though the couldn’t accommodate right away, as soon a table left, we were offered 2 other options. We were moved to a much better table before we even got our appetizer. Service was great, food and drinks were amazing. Had a great birthday dinner! Thank you!
Outdoor seating was ok, small tables on the sidewalk. Food was good, especially the fries. Some of the food was very salty. Pretty expensive. Didn’t get to experience any ambience since we were outside.
I could eat eat here every day. The food is outstanding. Best in the city. The service was excellent.
Had a great weekend in Nola with my fiancé! This was our most favorite meal
Food was good and worth the price. Here is the issue, we reserved for outside, but it was unexpectedly much colder than anticipated. We asked to be moved inside, we were told there were no seats inside. Again, asked if anything opens up to please let us know. We ate outside in the freezing cold. Everyone else who was outside was then seated inside. When we stood up to leave there were many tables open inside as it was near closing. At any point we could have been re-seated inside. Incredibly inconsiderate given every other party was seated inside. It was really COLD outside, so would not recommend or return because of the inconsideration.
Meeting son who is student at tulane
Amazing service and food...
Everyyhing was perfect! We celebrated our 25th anniversary -food was deliciaous from crab beignets to our special desserts! Service was top notch!
