New York steak bites
Alaskan King Crab Legs
7 Ounce Filet Mignon
OLD SCHOOL steakhouse! Steak was perfect. Halibut was under cooked and sent back. Great ambiance, Very good music but a very weak wine list and felt like they were a bit short staffed for such a busy night. I love the place but will happily pay corkage next time.
Our waitress Patty had the best recommendations and was wonderful! 😃😃😃
Great service and avian experience !!!!
We’ve been coming here since 1985, and the food is consistently excellent!
It is always a pleasure to dine herewith friends or just the two of us. The steaks are great and cooked to your order, never had anything go wrong. They have the best shrimp cocktail around, the sauce is not your typical store bought in a jar, but whatever it is, it is worth every drop. The Shrimp Scampi is a nice alternative but the cheesy bread is a meal for us. While I miss the Prime Rib, the Filet or boneless Ribeye works just as well. The Swordfish or Halibut is good second choice. If you really want to indulge, get the king crab legs. As for drinks, this bar has the most flavorful martinis, pick from the menu or ask for your favorite, the bartender will make.
Returned to La Cave after a several year pause. Overall, a very mixed experience. Welcome and seating were prompt. We were seated in the dining room where a live combo was playing and that was the first downside...the room is very small (on a quiet night one would say intimate) and the vocals were ridiculously loud....we literally had to yell at each other at times. The restaurant was at capacity and it was 20-25 minutes before anyone approached our table....so another minus for service. Our server, however,
was professional and friendly....solid service from this point to the finish. Cocktails were well made to request...decent bar. Steaks (filet mignon) were prepared as requested and flavorful....better than most steaks we have had dining out locally....the steaks were a high note. Potatoes and other sides were ok.... so neutral on this topic. Skipped desserts and instead had another drink.
Wine list is ok, no attempt to offer anything on the interesting side of quality-price. Decor is old school...to our liking but that is a personal choice for others to make.
As noted, a mixed experience.....so would we return? Yes, for the food....but next time on a mid-week night with no live music and a less stressful situation for the staff.
The experience started off strong with a beautiful shrimp cocktail appetizer; the first course salad and clam chowder were both very good; the entrees of a porterhouse steak and halibut were greatly lacking in quality. The steak was terribly salty and was a lower quality cut of meat - grisly. The halibut was adequate but the twice baked potato was dry and tasteless. The entrees were not worth the price at all.
Always my go to place for great sea food and awesome stakes. Service is always fantastic and very reasonable prices.
This place was amazing and the staff to match. We went for my wife's birthday and it was a night/dinner to remember. The wait staff was incredible and there to help whenever we needed. We were not rushed, and felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant the way we were waited on.
This is a very old school place and we totally love the vibe. Food is good and we like the throw back entertainment :)
La Cave has been around since 1962 and for good reason. The food is wonderful, the presentation and service were top notch and my wife said her Martini was absolutely perfect. Wine prices were very reasonable (although they do have a separate list for those who must have the higher end vintners). We both had Filet Mignon and I have to say, it was about the best we have ever had. I highly recommend La Cave to anyone who can appreciate the dark, 1960"s Sinatra style vibe. We loved it!
Fun time ! Good food :)
The food was outstanding from the large shrimp cocktail with their home made cocktail sauce, to a perfectly grilled rib-eye steak with grill mark flavor. Bianca, the server, was wonderful, appropriately patient. The restaurant is underground and has a great ambiance with dark colors and proper lighting. I would highly recommend.
Hidden gem of Orange County..I’d give it 10 Stars if I could.
Wonderful night and great live entertainment. Thank you.
From the outside, La Cave would appear to be a non descript restaurant in a corner strip mall. However, once you decend two floors via staircase or elevator to the actual restaurant, you will be transported back to an early 60's restaurant. Its a dark, mysterious, magical spot. The music is excellent. The food is excellent. The service is excellent. The bar delivers great cocktails. I dont know the last time I had a salad as well dressed as the one I had at La Cave. I followed that with a New York stip, fully loaded baked potatoe and cheesecake. Do yourself a favor, visit this amazing spot and have a great time. You will not regret it.
Love this location however the last two visits the food is moderately warm at best they keep bringing dishes cold to the table which makes no sense since the kitchen is right there ,, love the ambience ,, great service great drinks but the food has definitely taken a step down in the last few years
Great times!! We enjoyed being there!!!
Everyone was amazing to us!!
Always a fun place to dine! We didn’t bring my mother in law who LOVE La Cave and hope to have her on our return!
The ambience was very nice and the wait staff were very professional and knowledgeable. The food was adequate but the entrées were not meant to standard. Went with my husband and mother. My mother order the crab legs but when she received them they were cold and rubbery. My husband got the steak in which he mildly enjoyed. I order the lobster tail which was warm but rubbery. With the lobster tail I can definitely tell it was cooked beforehand and reheated.
1st visit. If you love ambient lighting, this restaurant is for you. What GREAT service too! Drinks, salad, bread, entrees... everything came out so quickly. What a nice surprise. This place is a gem in disguise.
The food is amazing. Old school vibe is excellent and everyone in Service was phenomenal. Can't wait to return.
Old school, rat pack vibe. If your alter ego is Sinatra, you will love this place. The service is outstanding and they pour a mean martini (shaken not stirred)! Give it a try and I guarantee you will be back!
Exceptional service and so much fun thanks to the live music.
Excellent food and good service. This is dining the old fashion way and is a gem.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The food, service and cocktails were all great!
Way too loud, super difficult to hold conversation. Steak was cooked correctly but crab legs were poor quality and over cooked. Price point too high for quality and environment.
This local eatery has a lot to offer including old school ambiance, great service, and a 50 year history. Let’s be honest, you come here for the experience; you can get a good steak all over the OC. La Cav makes you feel like you’ve walked back in time. Enjoy the nostalgic flair....you will want to come back!
Very expensive, not a great value on the dollar, $180 with tip for 2 with no wine, 3 drinks, no appetizers - too me for the experience and quality way to expensive and I am not a cheap person.
This was our first time at La Cave and we have a fantastic experience. Staff was so friendly. We also enjoyed our waitress sharing the restaurant history. We loved the ambiance, live music . . it felt like we were in NYC. We weren’t made to feel rushed at all but that we were there for an experience. The food was excellent. A perfect night out.
La Cave is a wonderful retro steakhouse with Sinatra and table conversations filling the room. The food is outstanding and the drinks are better. It’s a great place for a date or a good meal with friends.
Loved the old school vibe, music that was great for all generations and the fantastic service!
LaCave is a throw back to another era. Love this place. Food is always good. Service is always first rate. There was entertainment (one man band) during dinner and he was great. Never ever disappointed at La Cave.
The service was outstanding. Their “signature dishes “ were less than desirable and the steaks were salty. Very pricey for what we got.
First time. Absolutely loved the food and vibe. Clam chowder was the best ever. Will be back soon.
Wonderful experience. Service, food, drinks, ambiance all fantastic!
Strong drinks and delicious food! Its an underground steakhouse, cool experience.
Servers were excellent and the food was great. Loved the Friday night music.
I think it would be easy to give "outstanding" across the board, but I must be honest... Overall it was a real treat and I can see why all the accolades over the years. The only thing I would say was that I've had the pleasure of having over the top amazing steaks and I think they could update their "sides" a bit. For me, I also like my Caesar to have more zing to it, as I would give it a B+ grade. I will certainly go back again and just know what to expect. Even though the atmosphere is a bit dated, that's part of the ambience and history. In my opinion, they are sooo close to being amazing and certainly worth going to time and time again.
