Been here many times and usually nice. However, gradually gotten worse. FOOD /positives\ •starters still great. eg: -yellowtail sashimi -crispy rice with tartar -beef tataki Etc. • nigiri + sashimi still great /negatives\ • hosomaki and other rolls quite shocking - bad quality rice and, fish not same standard as sashimi as well. • stay away from anything tempura - tastes as if oil hasn’t been changed for weeks. SERVICE Terrible service, especially given the restaurant is almost always empty. •Took 5 mins to be attended to, to get our table. •Took another 15 mins to be attended to, to order. •Was told at 9:45 to make my last order as kitchen closes at 10, which by any city’s standards is significantly early AMBIENCE • Only 3 other tables in the restaurant. We were only table left by 10 o clock. • Nice décor, layout could be improved - too much like a refectory.

Very good Japanese food which we really enjoyed. We would have liked to see some combination deals on the menu to make ordering easier for those who are not too familiar with Japanese food. We would go there again

Kiru was fantastic when it first opened. We used to go there several times a month. the food was excellent and interesting, always busy and very atmospheric. however the last 2 times we have been the menu is much more limited and the food rather average however price still expensive with the restaurant only being half full so no atmosphere . such a shame a a great concept and location.

I have been to Kiru several times, but this time was disappointed with both the service and the food.. i usually order tempura and what used to be giant prawns are not that anymore and the vegetables were also not great.i was also disappointed at service as asked the waiter for a recommendation of a wine similar to the Italian wine which was £9 a glass and he gave me a wine which was £22 a glass which I only noticed when I got the bill!! I thought was not correct so not sure will go back.. a shame as was a great neighbourhood restaurant.

Have been going to Kiru since it first opened and found the food outstanding, the service great and I recommended it highly to all friends. We were delighted to have a really nice restaurant in our immediate neighbourhood of Chelsea. Since they initially closed one Summer for a month's renovation, I think they eventually re-opened after 3 months, the food and service has been appalling ever since. The majority of food portions have shrunk and remained the same price, as well as being mediocre at best. The main menu appears to be the original one but execution is now poor. A high proportion of new staff who are just not up to the job. We paid £150, inclusive of some alcohol, for a selection of starters and no main courses, no deserts or coffee. We ate early but there was zero ambience. When we left after 9 pm there were only a few tables occupied. Really a very poor experience. Since there re-opening, I have been several times to see if the food has improved but it has only worsened. It may be an easy accessible local choice but it is certainly worth going a mile or two further if you wish to enjoy good food, service and ambience. What a shame, would not go back. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all, although may be worth having a drink at the bar before moving on to dinner.

My wife and I ate dinner at Kiru just recently for the first time. I suppose the best thing I can say about Kiru is that the sashimi, of which we had two portions, was excellent – very fresh and just the right temperature. The Toro was particularly good. The cut rolls were also delicious. Although expensive (more on this in a moment), the sashimi is a highlight. The rest of the evening was more disappointing. Firstly, my wife and I arrived when only one other cover was there. For some reason, it took nearly nearly 15 minutes to get my cocktail, whilst my wife’s came in less than 5 minutes. And the bartender was reading rather than preparing my cocktail – perhaps there was a communications issue between our server and the bar, but our first course arrived before my cocktail, so this started the evening off on the wrong foot. Also, we had the fried rice balls and yellowtail as a starter, and it came in three components – the fried rice balls, soy sauce, and the yellowtail. But we had no idea how to eat / “mix” this, or use the sauce, etc. The server didn’t explain it to us. In fact, aside from the sashimi and rolls, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. We did enjoy the cocktails when they finally arrived. The décor of the restaurant is extremely nice, but I would reckon no more than 4-5 tables were being used which made for a less-vibrant ambience. As far as value, the meal (excluding drinks and service) sat us back about £130, which I considered very expensive given we didn’t even have a cooked main course. (The entire dinner for two with five drinks and service was £200.) To help you think about the cost of the sashimi and rolls, we had 16 pieces of sashimi and two rolls (spicy tuna and spider) for around £80, including four pieces of Toro. I love the location of Kiru and the décor and the fish, but there is room for improvement in several areas.
