Katie's Seafood House
Waiter was awesome
My husband and I brought our friends to celebrate Mardi Gras Galveston 2020. Everyone had a great time. We had the shrimp and fish platter. Delicious. We will be back. Loved it.
Good quality fish, as you would expect with nice preparations. Sides were acceptable. Dessert was very good. Priced to quality, not quantity. Adequate service. Inside seating is open space and therefore a lot of background noise.
Advertised fresh fish but my selection of flounder not available. Server misrepresented the composition of crabcake and my fish entree was overcooked and dried out. Way over priced. I will say the outdoor seating was a pleasant view.
I was disappointed. 5 people, and 2 entrees came out 10 minutes earlier than other 3; I like to eat at same time with my family so this was disappointing. They did not take anything off the bill to make up for this. Food was so-so; I did not think it was as good as the prices were high. Waiter was friendly, but he spoke so fast I could not understand what he was saying. They also ran out of their bread & butter that they normally provide before the meal. They were also out of the beer that we ordered. Overall, a disappointing experience. I will not return.
Lunch with two toddlers/four adults. Main dining room had huge very noisy group so ate outside on deck. Not their fault it was coolish but rather resented when the ladies at the next table asked for the propane heater next to our table (they already had one on their other side), and they wheeled it away from our table closer to the three women without asking us if we were needing it. Shrimp taco was great, as was shrimp po’boy and children’s fish sticks. The quesadillas were less good - too much gooey, overly creamy white cheese for our tastes. Server was great!
Great food and service
Drinks OK. Service was good. Flounder was dry. Grouper was good but dry (had to ask for butter), very small portion, and served ala carte for 35. No gluten free dessert options. Parking was confusing. Sooner or later someone will be towed. Overall not worth the price.
The fresh seafood is wonderful. Interesting and unique but so very tasty...and big portions!
Attended during restaurant week and it was one menu selection, but it provided a broad sampling of dishes provided at Katie's. The food quality was good; fish, shrimp, vegetables were all fresh. However, don't expect fancy preparation - it's home style, not chef quality, but lots of food. If you want a memorable seafood meal, go to Rudy if you want to be full, go to Katie's. A couple other things, free parking is limited, expect to pay $10 to park. Secondly, prices are not clear. For example on the Happy Hour drink specials, call Martinis are listed as $6. My call was Kettle One and I had two Martinis before dinner. At the end of the meal the bill for the drinks was $19 ($9.50 each). When I questioned the charge (and showed the waiter the Happy Hour pricing for call Martinis) the response was, "you ordered a premium liquor and that's why the mark up."
Server named Keith was great. Food was good to excellent. Drinks were great! Dining room is very bright for night dining...too bright!
Will definitely go back.
We went for restaurant week. I had seen their special menu for the week. And wanted to try the shrimp grilled cheese and bisque. When we got there, we were given that special menu. However, when I tried to order from the restaurant week menu, I was told "I don't know why they gave you that menu, because that food is not available." So, I ordered creole fish, and it was ok. I also had to ask 4 different people to turn on the patio heater, before someone finally did. The previous 3 did not know how to turn heater on.
Service was great. Food was excellent. Fish was fresh, portions were large and preparation was inventive. Highly recommend
Noise level was loud. It was lunchtime and not busy. Can’t imagine what lose level would be in evening
Absolutely fantastic. Food was delicious, service was top notch and ambiance was seafood at the beach perfect. Can’t wait to go back. Trust the chef’s recommendation!!
TJ was our waiter and was wonderful!! Great server and person
We were delighted with the restaurant and will certainly be back. Food was excellent, the service was the same. As we usually stay at the Harbor House hotel, we think we may have found new watering place!
Service was great. We went with a big group. Some food was average and some was really good. The side order of hush puppies was great but not the ones that came with the meal.
The food was good and definitely fresh, and we have no complaints about the service. Unfortunately, the ambiance of the entire restaurant - the table setup and particularly the lighting - felt like a hospital cafeteria. We’ll try again in the future, but the “we’re new and still figuring a few things out” will not sustain them for much longer if they intend to stay at the top of the price range.
Hope this place gets better with some time. Service was poor , had to ask about the whereabouts of our waiter three times. Drink order was incorrect twice, gumbo (although tasty) was served without rice, salt &vinegar fries were just fries. We will try again later if still around ....
It's not what we expected. No marina decor. French fries were better than the oysters. The bread basket was old dry stale bread. Couldn't understand the waiter. Had to ask him to repeat himself several times. The price for what we got was way over rated. Golden Coral has better food.
Great food, drinks and staff. Very accommodating and personable.
Well-prepared fresh seafood. Nothing else needs to be said.
Best crab cakes and snapped
Food delish, service wonderful. A little noisy. Wish there were more options for those among us who don’t eat seafood.
Yummy food and great service.
Really enjoyed our meal. The stuffed snapper was superb. We will be going back.
Service was off tonight. Didn’t get orders right.
We had a great time at Katie’s Seafood House! We had a party of 11, to celebrate our son’s college graduation. The food was fresh and scrumptious, the wait staff were very attentive, and the atmosphere was calm and so pretty! We will definitely be back.
The oil our fish was fried in was too hot and possibly old. Fish was undercooked inside and near burned outside. Service was excellent, but it is a loud bright dining room, much like a cafeteria, but with much higher prices. Hopefully an off night. I'll give it another chance.
Food and service was ok - restaurant is pound and has no ambiance.
Birthday dinner for my brother. Great food, lame wine list and good service
The food was mediocre. The flounder and crab was very heavy on the sauce masking the flavor of the fish. The crab was heavy on the breading. The grilled shrimp and fish tacos were good. We waited an hour for our food. We had 6:30 reservations and were there early. Got our food just in time to gobble it down and head to a 8:00 play nearby. I had mentioned to the waitress that we needed to leave no later than 7:15. If I had known the flounder was going to take "30 minutes" (actually it was more like 50 minutes), I would have ordered something else. Very disappointed as I spend a lot of time in Galveston and have been to Katie's market many times and I was really looking forward to finding a good seafood restaurant.
Great water view. Beautiful dining room. Good happy hour value. Sat at the bar and watched the two bartenders openly argue. Service was great to start but suffered as the restaurant got more crowded and bartenders got more hostile. Looking forward to going back. Hope Katie cleans up the employee issues. I enjoyed watching it but if I was at a table and couldn’t see it, it ends up just being bad service.
Might have been an off night. Went on a Saturday night. Seated right by kitchen. Both baked oyster appetizers were delicious and came out in a timely manner, then we waited almost 40 minutes for entrees. Pork chop was tasty but cold so sent back for recook. 2 fish orders were mixed up in preparation. Food was tasty but just took a while.
First time at Katies and it was well worth the wait. Servers were wonderful. Food was fab. Definitely worth the visit. Be sure and call and ask about parking. The area is a little confusing on where to park. Their area will comp the ticket. Where we parked charged us $12.00
