Fantastic food in a cute outdoor setting. Friendly waitstaff. Great experience
My first time going back to Justine's in a couple years. It seems like prices went up, portions went down, and service almost went away completely (at least on this specific visit). For a place that is so popular and busy, expensive, and requires a reservation so far in advance to get a table you would like (versus just rolling the dice and showing up and getting on the guest list and waiting however long), they really did not deliver on the wow factor. The food was actually very good, and everything was cooked well. The kitchen staff is doing a great job. However, it definitely seemed that what you get for your money has greatly decreased. It's a good thing we ordered two appetizers, because the entree would have left me still hungry after finishing it. Our server left our water glasses and carafe empty for way too long, and had to be asked to replenish it. She also left our empty cocktail glasses, finished appetizer plates, and used utensils all on the table for way longer than acceptable. Do they not have anyone that buses tables? They should, if the server is going to leave a mess for almost the entirety of your meal. Ambience, drinks, and food (cook and taste) were noteworthy. Service and value were mediocre, at best. This place has become a little too pretentious for my taste.
I love Justine’s, but I won’t be coming back for awhile. I love the French attitude and atmosphere; I don’t mind the laidback service or inconsistent wait time for cocktails or appetizers. However, the last few times I’ve been here I’ve felt like more of a nuisance than a guest. The most recent time I reserved a table for 5; when we were brought to a table for 4 we were told they were short on chairs and I had to basically beg the hostess for another chair. She gave us one and then asked that we please call ahead to let them know if we had reservation changes next time. ?
Our server was polite but the rest of the night I feel like we had to fight a bit harder for her attention, but again that’s kind of what I expect from this place.
As always, friendly service and incredible food in a beautiful setting that feels like no other place in Austin.
First time back after the pandemic and it was glorious. Food was better than I remember - I missed the steak tartare so badly - and the desserts were heavenly. Service is definitely more polished now - a welcome change. The new cabana tents are sexy and intimate. I do miss them being open all night long, but the vibe is still there and the staff was so warm and hospitable. Long live Justine’s!
It’s amazing how they have revamped the space for distancing and overall just made it even better, which I didn’t think was possible!
It was my birthday yesterday and my fiancé and I came for cocktails, dinner, and tintype! It was the perfect evening. Music, food, everything was on point. Thank you!
Great vibe here, food is amazing - escargot, steak frites, royale with cheese we’re all immensely enjoyed. my salad with butter lettuce, pear, walnuts, green beans and blue cheese was perfect - think beets would have been an awesome addition. can’t wait to go back. cheers.
As usual, great food and ambiance. Servers are efficient and kind. The outdoor bungalows are a great pandemic work around that I hope they keep.
Great experience. Great cocktails. Decor is old world elegance with a modern twist. Just lovely.
Always a good time. Because of all the nuances (new kitchen leadership, pandemic, etc), seemed a little rusty but know it will be flowing again. Highly recommend this joint.
The food here is great, but the restaurant has a fly problem outside. Throughout our meal, flies swarmed our table and landed on our food. We brought it up to the waitress and her only response was, “maybe they are attracted to wine.” We were not offered any sort of discount for a meal spent swatting a dozen flies at a time. It was really unappetizing. I guess you can only eat indoors here now.
Great food with a fun atmosphere. All the drinks are worth a try too.
It's really hard to believe this was the experience we had at Justine's. We expected a French brasserie experience, instead we got English punk rock music and sad pub smells, dismissive host, burnt food and passive aggressive server who turned aggressive as we were leaving.
The only French thing were the prices. You're better off going somewhere else.
The following was intended to be a private note to Justine’s. But, since the opentable app isn’t working properly this is the only way I can communicate my concern...
I thought the host on Wednesday night was rude and snotty. I said we knew we were early but she rolled her eyes anyway when she realized we were 15 mins early... OMG! She told us we could wait at the back of the property and SHE WOULD COME GET US when our table was ready in about 15 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes I walked to the front to check on our table. When I found the host she immediately said “this is why you don’t show up early at Justine’s”. I didn’t even respond. I asked if the table behind her was for us and she curtly said yes. I went to get the rest of our party and when we returned the menus were laying on the table. No host or server in sight. Not a very welcoming experience.
You know the host is the first person to make an impression on your guests. If I were you I would reevaluate this person’s role in your restaurant.
I just love this restaurant, their outdoor seating is incredible, great menu, great drinks, and servers that are attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.
Ambience is great. Food is average. If u r a foodie and go there for only trying good food, then doesn't worth the price.
Went here with some girls for a birthday celebration (mine!). One of my friends suggested we order a few things and share and I'm so glad she did because it was the right move. We got the pork chop (I dream about it), the steak, bolognese, side of ratatouille and a frisee salad with a warm egg that might have changed my life. We had a few cocktails and ended the meal with an amaro and the most amazing & light dessert. Such a special meal!
The food was great, our sever was knowledgeable and friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic. We had our own private tent with a chandelier - special night and so much fun. And food was delicious. All around excellent experience. I have be traveling to Austin for almost 10 years and already eat out at great restaurants and this was my first time atJustines. It was a true standout and I can’t wait to rerun.
The vibe and ambience are great here. Service is good too.
But food is overpriced for quality. Even if it was amazing it would be pricey. But the entrees are just okay.
Go here for the vibes if you don’t mind paying a lot for average food.
Wonderful ambience, fabulous food, great service!
The Ambiance was incredible, one of the prettiest places I’ve been to in Austin! The wine was great and the cocktails looked even better. We were disappointed with the food though, it was underwhelming. The entrees are quite expensive and we were expecting a little more for what we got. It was ok. I would definitely come back to have a cocktail and a cheese board, but won’t be ordering entrees again.
Our absolute new favourite restaurant in Austin, we can't remember having French food this good anywhere before, our minds are blown. We feel spoilt and lucky to have found such a high quality dining experience tucked out of the way in East Austin. Well worth having to book so far in advance.
Our server Natalie had fantastic energy and incredible knowledge about everything on the menu.
The Espresso Martini's were next level.
Our group sampled the tuna tatare, the butter dish, Snails, the lamb shank Tagine special, pork chop, chocolatte mousse and Nougat.
Everyone left with a feeling of awe and huge satisfaction.
We had our Anniversary dinner here.
It didn't start out all that good. We were seated under a tree and it was windy and the fruit and branches fell on us. We asked to moved and they were nice to let us.
We had high expectations since getting a reservation here was hard. Scallops was too salty, it took away the fresh scallops. The escargot was really bland. Beef tartare was good, best thing we ate. Duck confit was a little bland, but I didn't mind it since I ate it with the frisée salad. It however had a lot of fatty areas. Overall it was decent. When our waitress told us about dessert, the mousse sounded great with the fresh strawberry and candied almonds. However, there wasn't any just some whipped cream. Crème brûlée was firm and eggy. With that we end the night feeling a little disappointed. On a good note, it was nice to be away from the kids for a couple hours and enjoyed a quiet meal.
Good food, great atmosphere, great drinks! This is a special occasion restaurant for us. It’s pricey, but delicious and such a cool ambiance. Steak frites, lamb, scallops were all very good.
A great place for celebrations and intimate dinners.
Amazing experience! We booked outdoor dining and were lucky to get one of the cabanas. Super intimate and the wait staff really went above and beyond to make the visit great. Our heater wasn’t working and the staff worked on it for twenty minutes just to get it to work even though we said and meant that it was fine if it wasn’t on. The food was delicious and we all had a great experience.
Dope as heck
My husband and I dined at Justine's recently to celebrate his birthday. We had the market fish with Bernaise sauce and veggies and the pork chop with Au Gratin potatoes and both of us thought the food was excellent! The bread and olive oil to start was excellent too. Our only disappointment was the service. Although our waitress was very nice when she stopped by our table, she didn't do it often. When she came to take our order she had to be asked to tell us what the specials were. She didn't offer that info. There are separate servers who deliver the food and for a fine dining restaurant, they were very underdressed. We weren't expecting fancy but one gentleman wore overalls and a flannel shirt and another woman wore a tight, black knit t-shirt and casual black knit shorts that exposed her butt cheeks. It didn't seem work appropriate to us. I don't think we'd go back.
Made my reservation easily and my table was ready when we arrived. Our waitress, Chantal, was awesome, patient and informative! We are a group of sober people and their mocktails are delicious! We had the French 75 and Firebird mocktails. It was a perfect night out and Justine's never disappoints on food, drinks, music or service. The pork chop is divine and the creme brûlée is perfection.
What an experience. Everything was top notch. Highly recomned Justines!
Our favorite restaurant in Austin!
Justine’s is a great place for French cuisine and get togethers - it’s ambience indoor and outdoors is what makes it a true gem of Austin. The vinyl jazz records indoors with the architecture in its backyard patio are absolutely stunning.
The food doesn’t match its ambience but it is really quite rich. Definitely order their fries, French onion soup or collection of salads to start off. Close the meal with the steak frites or a pasta with bolognese sauce and your appetite will be filled.
The service is great. The waiters and waitress are attentive, thorough and knowledgeable. Their attire is a reason to go itself. The professionalism and formality is an opportunity to improve where snapping and addressing guests as “bud” can be a turn off for some.
Overall a place you should visit and return back!
Amazing as always!
I’m ready for the tents to go away outside....
We had been talking about returning for a year and it was everything we know and love about Justine’s.
The dinner was great and we really enjoyed our little nook. The server insisted that we order everything at once and so we did expecting to have a coursed meal, unfortunately all the food took forever and came out at the same time.
The drinks were fabulous; the duck was fabulous; the place is fun.
We came during a thunderstorm and the whole staff was so thoughtful. We know how stress those nights can be, and everything was still excellent. If you haven't been to their patio during Covid, its by far the best one in Austin for a date or celebration. Happy to see this Austin classic is still doing what they do best!
We were sat 40 mins late, hostess was rude when we asked for menus after we hadn't had anyone come over for another 30 minutes. Our waitress was really nice but that intial hour was rough
