Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
Our first time with friends from out of town, celebrating two birthdays. To start with our menu's were custom printed with our names and a happy birthday wish. Our appetizer's at $9.00 each were wonderful. We could have easily shared two among the four of us. The meals were delicious but clearly a little pricey for the portions served. The desert was out of this world!!! My wife and I live in the area and I think for a light meal we could walk there and enjoy just a couple of appetizers and the desert.
fantastic food, maybe the best in austin. can't wait to go back.
We so enjoyed our dinner of the chefs menu last Friday night. We disagreed on which course was the best. Loved meeting the chef/owner. Our waiter was awesome (I’m terrible with names and forgot his). Everyone was so friendly. The food so pretty and delicious. The loop around of desserts to reflect the starters was unexpected and endearing. We’ll tell everyone we know. We’ll be back again.
This unexpected treasure is tucked into a corner on Caesar Chavez, but the vibe is so chill and casual that you feel a world away.
Everyone involved in our dining experience could not have been more kind or knowledgeable about food & wine. As a high maintenance diner, plant based foods only, the chef created beautiful and creative dishes that delighted all of us.
Even though the restaurant was busy, our evening at Juniper lasted over 2.5 hours. During that time, conversation was easy and we did not feel rushed at any time.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!
Informative, attentive waiter; diverse wine/spirits selection; unique, creative menu with fabulous food beautifully presented!
This place is exceptional, plain and simple. It justifies the heavy tab with such expertly crafted fare that it’s the only restaurant I don’t bat an eye at dropping $19 for a negroni (because it’s that good). Also the lighting is a little bright and stark for my taste, I assume it’s to allow the older patrons to maintain some dignity as they read the menu, but I usually prefer the lower lights to help me ignore the room full of people around me. That said, you need to eat here!
Everything about that meal was simply magical. Not to miss!
Staff super attentive and organized (all aware it was anniversary.. nice touch). Building is contemporary space in a cool hood. Food was good. Drinks and apps all arrived timely. Impressed.
Every single dish was fantastic, from starters to salads, entrees, and sides, plus desert as well. Service was friendly, smooth, and professional. We had a great meal and a nice time.
Juniper was hands down 5 star amazing! Was not expecting such great service and delicious food. Everyone acknowledged my girlfriends bday which made her feel loved. The staff really went above and beyond for the accommodations I requested thru open table and I really appreciated that. I didn't have to call and remind them. It was all taken care of. Our server (Eric) was very knowledgeable about the food and had great suggestions which we tried and absolutely loved. He never rushed us to order but had an attention for us and knew when we were ready order. Like he was reading our mind :) food was out promptly and temperature and taste were spot on. We had the puffy potatoes, meatballs, little lettuces, spinach gnocchi, pappardelle, and the bomba dessert. All washed down with some delicious red wine. Honestly these dishes we had all deserve a personal section of themselves. You will not be disappointed w any of them. Our favorite was the meatballs, pappardelle, and especially the Bomba! Wow! Give the dessert chef a raise! Juniper will definitely see us more around. Thank you guys!
This was best meal I've ever had. My boyfriend and I went to Juniper for our anniversary and did the tasting option. Everything we had was incredibly delicious. The service was also fantastic and it made our anniversary a truly memorable one! Highly recommend this restaurant
We had been there a few times last year, and had memories of exceptional food, lovely ambiance and fabulous service. With a vary eclectic many of small plates, we had always had great help from our waitstaff to choose and stage our food. This time the wait for the wine and first course was exceptionally long, our waiter did not offer help, but had information when asked, and generally looked like he wasn't excited about the place. We would definitely return, and the price for the quality of food was good, but at least this one member of waitstaff needs a pep talk.
Overall good experience
My husband and I were celebrating a great business day. Our salads were excellent and my red snapper was delicious. The steak was not as great, just ok. The drinks were excellent and I especially liked the “veiled lady”.
Excellent service - great food - wonderful experience
Food was delicious as always. We requested a certain bottle of wine and they were able to save us the last one
First time visit to juniper although several family and friends rated it a must...the sous chef nick was great and fun to talk with...james, our sever, was also knowledgeable and helpful...
Will return for the specials and some seafood...
Easily one of my new favorites. Perfect from greeting through desert. Knowledgeable thoughtful server, perfectly fresh flavored food and beautiful ambiance! Will rec to everyone I can.
So good! Recommend for anybody taking out their S.O.
The hostesses could easily tone down the pretentiousness of working here. We called to say we were running 5-10 late since traffic was of course backed up on 35, and they pretty much told us that our table probably will be given to someone else. Our actual server was great, and really accommodating but the SECOND you were close to taking your last bite of food, like 3 food runners swoop in like vultures to clear your plates and get you on your way. You definitely feel rushed to hurry up and finish eating so they an flip your table. Definitely not worth the $300 bill. But checked it off our list.
Enjoyed an incredible meal at the chef's counter and had a front row seat to see the passion, detail, and care that goes into every dish. Amazing!
Everything was great, beginning with the friendly valet. Our server was efficient and pleasant and the Valentines Day menu was delicious. We will definitely return.
Cocktails were amazing! Sat at counter, talked to chef and mixologist ! Fun evening
What a lovely place! Odd naked lady print on the wall but didn’t disturb the atmosphere. Food was good, hostess was sweet, waiter seemed knowledgeable. Great for a date or meet up with classy friends.
Although Juniper markets itself as "contemporary italian," I would not consider it to be either. The decor is contemporary, however the menu is not - the small plate idea is no longer novel and is instead common place these days. As far as italian food on the menu, you can get pasta and risotto, but both were poor. The pasta was not even cooked to al dente and the risotto was salty mush. That being said, the service was fantastic and the wine was great. I would only go for wine and appetizers, don't waste your money on a "plate."
The best part of this restaurant was, and this is a weird one, but they have the absolute BEST fresh squeezed lemonade I’ve ever had!!! The meatball appetizer was a must have! We also ordered house pickles, one of the cheeses (a blend of cow, goat, sheeps milk) - each of these were just ok. Entrees we did black linguine which I found to have an odd flavor and wouldn’t recommend, the pork belly and the beef. I found the food to be thoughtful and beautiful, but for whatever reason - I left just feeling like everything was just a little overdone. It’s probably just me - I guess I like more simple, solid, amazing food. No need for flowers in my food, so know that when reading this review!! The ambience and service were outstanding and we loved our server and witnessing the happenings in the open kitchen. The cost of everything was on the high side, and I felt that it was a bit overpriced for what it was, but not much higher than other nice restaurants!!
I'd made a blunder in my reservation via Opentable but luckily we still were able to be seated and they were very attentive despite my mistake. We went for a pre-show and wedding anniversary meal. I'd recommend and return! (We drove in straight from Houston).
Great. Really great,
We did the tasting menu and it was great! At $70 per person, I thought it was a good value for everything we got. The food was exceptional! Some of my favorite dishes were the celery root soup with crab, the chicken and polenta, and the puffy potato of course!! The service was also top notch, I can’t recommend this place enough!!
We had a group of 11 for a business meal. The food was amazing and up front the server was very good. Something happened through the meal and we were left waiting for a long time to order desert and actually finish.
It was suggested that a group of our size let the server order many different small plates to pass. Great idea, however a few in our group did not want to do that. The server was a little disappointed moving forward. I am not sure it was fully explained to our group to order sides with the meal so it was a bit confusing.
Overall we had a good meal. Ended up letting the server help with the wine selection and just populate the table with appetizers. Great choices on both. Wish the group trusted him to select the meals and serve family style. I think we would have had a great time. I would recommend Juniper to everyone, trust is the key word.
Beautifully thought out dishes, lovely ambiance and a spectacular exhibition kitchen. A wonderful dining experience all around!
The service was great, cool environment too, but the food is overrrated. The best thing was my husband’s bourbon cocktail. We picked a bunch of appetizers and pasta and 3 items were “pimped” by the server but nothing was impressive. The salad was my favorite. We ordered the prosciutto and it was literally a pile of prosciutto and that’s it. No seasoning that was noticeable, nothing special. The spinach gnocchi had a weird orange flavor I couldn’t get past and didn’t go well in the dish. I had heard so much about this place, and it was our anniversary, so needless to say we were a little disappointed. Appreciated the glass of prosecco though!
Our dining out group was unanimous that this was one of our best dining experiences in Austin! LWe turned our decisions over to our very knowledgeable waiter and he brought out an array of deliciousness. It might be the best spinach fontina I’ve ever had. Chicken salltimbucco was yummy, their homemade Italian sausage was perfect. The two salads were distinctive and refreshing. The only thing that was not perfect was the cheese pie with an ice cream I found unpalatable. I can’t wait to go again!
My husband's birthday was treated with special effort by all staff and made for a very enjoyable event.
The food was excellent!
The food was great and the service was truly outstanding. The staff was friendly and accommodating to dietary restrictions and really worked hard to make sure that we had an enjoyable evening.
Great food, and a great staff! We love every time we go here. The food is always fresh with the best vegetables in season. Modern dishes with a twist on the old world Italian. To get the full experience, I would suggest sitting at the counter or the bar as both face the open and bustling kitchen. Always a great time!
We went for my husbands birthday on a Tuesday and it was so good, we went back again that Friday night when a friend came to visit from out of town. The second time we did an 8 course tasting menu. Both times the food was fresh and fantastic! The service was exceptional. The pasta is made in-house, they cure their own meats and make their own bread. For my husbands birthday, the menu presented to us said Happy Birthday on it and they gave us each a glass of sparkling wine when we sat down. It's a very special place!
Excellent dining experience. Must do counter seating for the full experience. The staff seem truly passionate about the cuisine and what they do. Nick and Mark were exceptional!
Our first visit to Juniper, and definitely not our last! Every bite was amazing, the wine list was well-selected, and our server Nicholas made us feel like longtime regulars. Can’t wait to go back!
