Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
Amazing food, decor, ambience, and service. Highly recommend Juniper.
Don't book on Juniper's outdoor patio. Open Table told me the only available tables Friday at 5:45pm were outside, so that's what I booked, assuming they would have adequate shade and mister fans to keep things cool. First problem was that the restaurant was empty when we arrived, not full when we left, and we were the only people crazy enough to be eating on their patio. Our server seemed very puzzled that we had to book an outside table and even the chef/owner said "I see you are braving our patio". Here's why. It is a dreary, spartan space with the western sun beating in, no shades drawn to counter the sun, no mister fans to cool things down, thank goodness for us there was a breeze and the sun didn't make it to our table until just about time for us to leave--but every other patio table was in direct sun. My recommendation is, first of all, if Open Table tells you there are only patio tables left, CALL the restaurant and make sure that is really the case. Otherwise, check when the sun sets and only book out there after dark. All that said, the food and service were excellent, and I'm sure we will return.
We had a lovely experience celebrating our 25th anniversary at Juniper! I had mentioned it ahead of time in the comments section of our online reservation and as soon as we sat down we were treated to 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco and a menu with "Happy 25th Anniversary" printed at the top. Those are the little things that make a big difference in how people feel. The food was amazing, especially the beet salad and the gnocchi. Service was attentive and excellent. My one little complaint was that the restaurant was very warm when we arrived- I know AC is expensive in Austin, but your customers need to be comfortable! AC was adjusted when we asked, though. Thanks for a lovely evening- will definitely be back!
It was a great experience, we got good recommendations on wine and vegetarian pastas.
Beautiful spot, lousy service and food arrived cold - $18 and change for a couple of eggs, sausage and toast. All & all a great disappointment.
Second time sitting at the chef's counter and just as enjoyable as the first. The food is excellent, the staff is top notch and the dining experience is great.
Wonderful experience. Service was impeccable. Food was great as advertised. Can’t wait to go back.
Everything we tried was delicious! The service was amazing. It will def be on my list of must visit again places.
Great customer service but the food was not good. Would not go back.
Easily would have been 5 star, except for the fact that my open table request for indoor seating 4 days before our reservation was completely ignored
We have been to Juniper twice before in the past and on each occasion, we thought it was excellent. This time we were terribly disappointed. The food was quite good, but it definitely was not worth $127 for dinner for 2 on this special occasion, which turned out not to be very special at all. We do not plan to return in the future.
We sampled several starters that were all tasty and interesting. Especially the greens with zabaglione. The papardelle pasta was great too and the prochetta was beautifully prepared and enough for two. The service was attentive but relaxed. All in all an enjoyable evening.
It was great really enjoyed Hopi g to go back this week
Juniper has a wonderful ambiance, not too crowded, not too sparse, and great indoor decor. Food is delicious (black fettuccine, beef cheeks, tuna and prosciutto appetizer) and presented impressively. Our waitress was top rate: likable, helpful, great personality. The only food advice I would offer is to make desserts as impressive as the other courses; the pound cake just didn't thrill me. But everything else did.
Service was great. Bar tenders are fun and engaging. The decor is beautiful, romantic but relaxed. There is a great patio area. The food is amazing. They also have a valet for parking. It's the total package. Excellent on everything.
Good food. Decent service. Great music and ambiance.
Food was excellent. So fresh and interesting. Will come back for sure.
Juniper is my favorite Italian restaurant in Austin, and I am Italian, raised by a family of cooks, so yeah, trust me:). The porchetta was fantastic, the Aperol spritzer is a must, especially if you’ve never had an aperitivo and need to be introduced to this wonderful Italian tradition. Loved it all and go back.
Lovely setting and great food! Service was exceptional. Highly recommended
The pappardelle pasta itself was very good though the sauce seemed as though it came out of a can and did not have much creativity. Otherwise everything was perfect!
Ate Easter Brunch at Juniper. First time to go there, food was delicious, the service was outstanding.
Juniper is one of my all time favorite restaurants in Austin. Their menu is delicious and fresh. Homemade pastas are classic but they add new twists. Service is usually impeccable and sitting at the bar/counter is always fun to watch the kitchen work. Highly recommended!
We had a great meal at Juniper! We got a number of dishes to share and they were all delicious. There were many options for vegetarians and pescatarians which was great for us! We would highly recommend checking it out.
Friends moving away to cali
Amazing service and amazing food!
Second time dining at Juniper and just as delicious as we remembered! Amazing food and our waiter recommended just the right amount of items to make sure we did not leave hungry and experience a lot of different dishes.
Love the food & service here it's just always way too bright. Doesn't lend itself to a date night as much.
I went for my one year anniversary dinner. We were greeted with champagne and a menue that congratulated us at the top. We sat at the counter and probably had the best intimate dinner we've ever had. We had the puffy potatoes, coppa, la luz, gnocchi, a few glasses of wine and dessert. Everything was perfect, almost too good to be true. Will probably spend every special occasion here! Thank you so much for a magical evening.
The food at Juniper is both innovative and exquisitely delicious, a great and hard to find combo these days. Do not miss the whipped potato puffs with horseradish cream!
Our first time with friends from out of town, celebrating two birthdays. To start with our menu's were custom printed with our names and a happy birthday wish. Our appetizer's at $9.00 each were wonderful. We could have easily shared two among the four of us. The meals were delicious but clearly a little pricey for the portions served. The desert was out of this world!!! My wife and I live in the area and I think for a light meal we could walk there and enjoy just a couple of appetizers and the desert.
fantastic food, maybe the best in austin. can't wait to go back.
We so enjoyed our dinner of the chefs menu last Friday night. We disagreed on which course was the best. Loved meeting the chef/owner. Our waiter was awesome (I’m terrible with names and forgot his). Everyone was so friendly. The food so pretty and delicious. The loop around of desserts to reflect the starters was unexpected and endearing. We’ll tell everyone we know. We’ll be back again.
This unexpected treasure is tucked into a corner on Caesar Chavez, but the vibe is so chill and casual that you feel a world away.
Everyone involved in our dining experience could not have been more kind or knowledgeable about food & wine. As a high maintenance diner, plant based foods only, the chef created beautiful and creative dishes that delighted all of us.
Even though the restaurant was busy, our evening at Juniper lasted over 2.5 hours. During that time, conversation was easy and we did not feel rushed at any time.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!
Informative, attentive waiter; diverse wine/spirits selection; unique, creative menu with fabulous food beautifully presented!
This place is exceptional, plain and simple. It justifies the heavy tab with such expertly crafted fare that it’s the only restaurant I don’t bat an eye at dropping $19 for a negroni (because it’s that good). Also the lighting is a little bright and stark for my taste, I assume it’s to allow the older patrons to maintain some dignity as they read the menu, but I usually prefer the lower lights to help me ignore the room full of people around me. That said, you need to eat here!
Everything about that meal was simply magical. Not to miss!
Staff super attentive and organized (all aware it was anniversary.. nice touch). Building is contemporary space in a cool hood. Food was good. Drinks and apps all arrived timely. Impressed.
Every single dish was fantastic, from starters to salads, entrees, and sides, plus desert as well. Service was friendly, smooth, and professional. We had a great meal and a nice time.
