What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
Interesting menu items all well executed. Cocktails were great. Service extremely attentive. I've always enjoyed my meals here.
I been here many times and every time I am impressed with the quality of the food, presentation and service. Great place in east Austin
Once again this place impressed me. The service was phenomenal! Michael was great. We had a wide mix of delicious starters. Drinks were tasty. The Bomba dessert was off the charts. Always a stop when I visit Austin. This place blows me away.
#1 restaurant in Austin
Its our favorite restaurant in Austin, ahead of Barley Swine, Odd Duck, Dai Dui
Try the puffy potatoes and listen to your server for recommendations. Enjoy!
Great food and service, parking attendants are terrific.
Incredible chefs and outstanding service. If they have a tasting menue I would highly advise you not go any other route.
Nicky, Josh, Jack, Mark, Alli..et al provided us with a wonderful dining experience! Do their tasting, worth every doll hair!
This was our second time to have our anniversary at Juniper—it was just as fantastic this year as last year. I can’t recommend it enough. Looking forward to our next meal there!
We just loved Juniper from start to finish! Imaginative menu, warm welcome, charming wait staff, engaging manager and quiet efficientcy. Our favorite restaursnt in Austin hands Down!
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. They greeted us with anniversary wishes, served us complimentary champagne, had menus printed with Happy Anniversary on them and just treated us very specially. Our waiter Nicholas was great, and the other servers were attentive and very helpful. We had a marvelous evening.
Amazing food. 10/10
We've been to Juniper several times, and really enjoy it. But, it is pretty pricey for the small portions.
It was nice overall and you can tell the staff and chef’s care about the patrons. We sat next to the open kitchen at their bar, and expected more demonstration of the cooking, but it wasn’t that. I don’t think I will want to sit at the bar again.
Michael was amazing and definitely deserves a raise! Exceptional service!
One of the problems with new, modern restaurants is the atrocious acoustics. All of the hard concrete surfaces make the noise level intolerable. But at Juniper, there is a curved wall over the kitchen area that seems to attenuate that. We sat talking leisurely for some 15 minutes before even looking at our menus, yet our waiter was attentive, patient and kept checking back. Once we ordered, the food came out promptly. The fish and pasta were impeccably cooked and delicious.
I’m not a desert eater, but, the plate that shone most was the creme brûlée. It was a beautiful combination of expected, unexpected and well paired tastes.
The food was fantastic and the service was exceptional. We had a great time!
Great food and drinks using local fare. Awesome staff - the chef’s counter is the place to be.
We chose Juniper for a special birthday dinner. I received a confirmation call and the staff inquired about the celebration and who it was for. When we arrived they greeted us warmly and wished my fiance a happy birthday! We chose the bar seating which was a great choice and were given complimentary glasses of prosecco. They also had wonderful personalized menus printed for us.
The food was amazing. Really enjoyed the antipasti appetizer. We then shared pasta dishes - Pappardelle and Caramelle which were unique and delicious. The Sunday lasagna and the roasted chicken were perfectly done. I don't care for desserts generally but they sent out a complimentary summer fruit sorbet and it was absolutely perfect and my fiance enjoyed the Bonet. We had a perfect dining experience and out taste buds were delighted! We will definitely be back!!!
This was one of the best dining experiences ever! We went to Juniper for my boyfriend's birthday and Nick was our server. The food was absolutely amazing and the homemade pastas are to die for! Every dish we had was fantastic! The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a memorable evening, even printing happy birthday to him on the menu. They paid attention to every detail. Nick was very knowledgeable about the wine pairings and the flavors of the dishes, which enhanced our experience to the fullest. This was the perfect experience and we will definitely be back! Thanks for an amazing evening Nick and Juniper!!!
Juniper is one of my favorite spots in Austin. Amazing food, seasonal menu, and everything is done intentionally and well
Overall Food was meh. The okra dish was bad. Risotto and meatballs were great. Dessert was good too.
While the food that we ordered, including our appetizers of little lettuces and puffy potatoes, was outstanding, the noise level an service at the beginning of the evening left a little to be desired. The music didn't seem too loud, but the level of everyone's voice, made it hard to hear the people at the table and the waitstaff––a bit too energetic.
We were promptly seated, provided with water, then were told that our waiter would be right with us. That should have been 5-10 minutes tops. It was more like 20. And we just had water at the table. Someone other than the waiter took our drink orders. Also, once we got our food, the only vegetarian at the table had a plate of pork ragu put in front of her––big mistake that was luckily, quickly rectified.
I am not a vegetarian but I have plenty of friends that are vegetarian. While the pastas and veggie side dishes were excellent, something other than pasta as a main dish option for vegetarians would be lovely––I mean at least one "secondi" that is completely vegetarian and another that is vegetarian, but a meat option could be added.
FYI––love the half/full order option.
From the very pleasant chat with our valet car man to the outstanding wait service and excellent meal, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Juniper. We can recommend the blue crab salad, shared pasta plates (the Caramelle and Cacio e pepe were simply outstanding), and the bombe for dessert--a perfect ending with coffee.
Juniper is a caliber of Italian fare that belongs in New York, Chicago, or SF. Thankfully, it's right here in Austin and belongs on your list of must-try restaurants. That is assuming you haven't already visited their east side location, off of Cesar Chavez. Everything is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. The wait staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and ready to assist. I've eaten a lot of really good meals here, since the restaurant scene started taking a huge step forward 10 years ago. What Juniper is doing belongs at the top of that list.
Amazing experience all the way around.
Came first time for a birthday dinner, second time for late dinner on the way home from the airport. Both great. The food is fabulous and the portions perfect. Pleasant hostess and waiter. Go!
Juniper delivers inspired takes on Italian classics. The portions are sensible and well-sourced produce finds its way into every dish, so you leave feeling nourished. The cocktails are unique, which is becoming increasingly difficult in Austin. But most of all, the service is consistently outstanding. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous, of course, but they also find ways to intimate a sense of warmth and friendship, which has brought us back more than any other quality. The just plain pleasantness of every meal we've had there means that even if a particular entree wasn't as fantastic as the last, we're guaranteed to have a beautiful experience. Thanks, Juniper!
Had a good time. Wish I had known our reservation for 6 was at an odd big square table where it was difficult to chat with everyone
I wish I could say that I would recommend Juniper, because the food is amazing and the service is great. We've been several times and during our most recent visit, it was about 90 degrees in the restaurant with no air flow. It was so hot we left early because it was unbearable. The manager claimed the air conditioning was working and they were giving out cold towels, but that's really not enough in the summer in Austin. Their only explanation was that it was just too hot outside. Once again - we live in Austin, this is to be expected and this issue should be resolved. I just wish we would have been warned in advance. It was my husband's birthday, so overall we were very disappointed.
I’ve eaten at Juniper many times, but last night was my first time doing the Chef’s Tasting menu. It was an amazing experience from start to finish. Our waiter, Jack, was so attentive and knew a lot about the wines and helped us pick the perfect bottle (of which we never would have chosen had he not explained it). Nick led us through the tasting and was always very explanatory on the background of each dish. We sat in front of Ali, who was like watching an artist plate cold dishes all night. It was seriously an amazing evening!!! Thank you, Juniper!
Probably one of the best experiences I’ve had dining out. The service was outstanding. The portion sizes were also great and made it easy to share and try different items, they were incredible. I would totally go back in a heartbeat!
Really enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance however the air conditioning was fighting to keep the slightest hint of cool and it was enough to sour somewhat an otherwise great experience. If you are sensitive to heat I would recommend to avoid during the summer or until they get it fixed.
Air conditioner was not working & our guests were sweating! Not enjoyable. Seemed to have decreased their menu from previous visits so very limited choices.
We had a delightful dinner. Each of the four of us chose a different entree from fish to chicken. We shared appetizers and enjoyed glasses of sauvignon blanc.
Great great people and great service.
Juniper has a very nice ambiance with food that doesn’t even come close to matching that. Food is in general everyday dishes masquerading in fancy names as unique fusion items. For example, puffed potatoes are like tator tots, only not as good. It is in general difficult to ruin such nice home made hand cut pasta but they managed to do it. Disappointed with the taste of the food. Cadillac Negroni was good
First time here celebrating anniversary. Everything was so good. Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent ambience. Not a cheap date, but well worth it for the experience. We are fans!
In Austin for a short time. One of the best meals we have had not only here but anywhere. My wife and I keep remarking in how great it was.
