We'd heard a lot about Juniper and were expecting to be wowed. We went for a special occasion - our 30th anniversary. Our menu said "Happy Anniversary" at the top, which was a nice touch. The service and the appetizers were very good, but the entrees were just OK. Nothing wrong, but nothing great either. As we were leaving they brought us a box of goodies to take home - some Juniper spices, some Juniper Cracker Jacks, and something else that said it was cookies, but they looked more like small green tortilla chips - we couldn't decide what they were. But the worst/funniest part was that there was a copy of the menu in the box signed by some of the staff with kind anniversary wishes. However, the menu was from 2 days prior and said "Happy 2nd Anniversary" at the top. I guess someone else didn't get their box :). Oh well, it's the thought that counts, right?

The food and service were excellent. It was a little warm/stuffy and they opened the blinds around 8:00 PM to let more light in, instead of dimming lights for dinner ambiance

The grade is B for the restaurant and the staff. We enjoyed the dinner while the note below shares the caveats.
The food was somewhat too salty. We recommend to lower the amount of salt- not making the food tasty any longer. The portions were "French" portions. Too small for an Italian restaurant. Again, it should be more filling and not just a design on the dish while acknowledging that the plate decoration is important. The choice of veggies were limited and not as sophisticated as what we expected for a restaurant that considers itself a high-end. Example: okra was used in most dishes! We recommend for Juniper to keep up with its portfolio in the social media. The performance wasn't as impressive.

My husband and I went as our first chefs table experience and we will definitely be going back. The food was AMAZING and the chefs had a true passion when cooking that it was so entertaining to watch them in their zone. The staff was so nice as well. We originally sat next to a stone pillar making it hard to see, but they let us change seats once others were available at the bar. We are still drooling over the food!

Exceeded our expectations especially from the look of the outside, thought maybe a plane had crashed into the 2nd floor. But to walk in and see such a beautiful open kitchen and the way it flowed into the dining room was fantastic, a wonderful foreshadowing of the great meal that was to come. Great job juniper

The food was amazing, the staff went above and beyond and it was obvious they absolutely love working here! Right from the beginning we walked in and the hostess offered to take our motorcycle helmets and jackets, then we were seated at the counter and our waiter was incredibly attentive, but not overly so. The bartender created a mocktail for us, and the food was beyond amazing! I can’t speak highly enough of this place!

We went for a bday celebration. This was one of the best experiences in regards to making the night special. We had a special menu for us with my husband's name on the menu, at the end of dinner the menu with signed with bday cheers by the staff and a special bday gift box was given. I mean just incredible! Lots of goodies in the box! You MUST GO for your bday! I will go again just because. :D

The restaurant had an amazing vibe, lighting was intimate, the aroma was alluring and gets you really excited for your meal. Our waiter was great and ordered his recommendations and loved all of them. Their drinks were spot on and very refreshing. We went for our wedding anniversary and we will definitely be going again in the future! Only downfall which honestly might just depend on where you sit, but the music was a little loud for a casual conversation.

The food was great and the service was decent... the main reason for not giving this top marks is that we were seated outside and it was SWELTERING. They have a few fans out there but it was incredibly hot, even when the sun went down. Make sure when you make a reservation to sit inside unless you love sweating through your whole dinner.

The appetizers were amazing, the meatballs and butter lettuce was the highlight of the meal. Our server was not very good, no personality and really just didn’t explain anything. The pasta was overly salty. Had high hopes for the restaurant but sadly won’t be coming back

We decided to forgo a weekend away and go on a vacation in our own home base during Memorial Day weekend. Made reservations at top restaurants in Austin. Juniper was on our list. The overall experience was composed of highs and lows. I rarely write reviews, even though, we go out allot. But I felt compelled to write one for Juniper because the overall experience was disappointing. This could be a place we would have loved to love. Beautiful things: (1) free, fast, courteous valet service. The valet guy was great. He opened my door and even ran over to open the restaurant door. (2) individual chefs presented the dishes (3) best of all – amazing waiter! He was so personable and on top of his service. Sad things: (1) We had a 7pm reservation for the tasting menu at the counter. We got seated over 30 minutes later. The hostesses didn’t bother to update us even though they said it’ll be a few minutes. (2) the perfectly cooked farm center cut ribeye along with the delicate shavings of the truffles were over powered by the salty mushrooms. (3) the overall dining experience took over 2.5 hours. We’ve experienced many tasting menus at other restaurants with more courses and unique menu items (Juniper’s tasting menu items are the same as their a la carte menu items) which had better timing. Since we had over two hours to observe the kitchen operation, even though we’re not expert restauranteurs, the kitchen coordination seemed a bit disorganized. The station chefs seemed to be operating in there own ‘island’ and the cohesion that we’ve observed in other top restaurants seemed missing. So perhaps this is the reason for the delay. With that said, the hostesses could have been more hospitable by offer free drinks/snacks to guests waiting over 15 minutes or so. Even though, we were overall disappointed in the service at Juniper, we did leave 25% tip because the waiter was really amazing!

Juniper has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The staff is incredible and truly takes care of the guest and makes them feel special and unique. I highly recommend sitting at the chefs counter, from the bar service to the culinary staff, everyone is friendly and interactive. And the food is SO GOOD. The menu changes pretty frequently, so there’s always something new and delicious to try. The cacio e pepe pasta is a must have, one of the best I’ve had! And be sure to save room for dessert, the sorbets are wonderful and always creative!
Diner Tip: Monday nights feature an all night happy hour type deal with great app and pasta specials that differ from the main menu and half off bottles of wine (which me and my boyfriend love to take advantage of the good deals).
I honestly can’t say enough about how much I enjoy dining here, it’s truly a special place!

Great experience! We sat at the bar which means we also got a chance to talk with the people in the kitchen making the food - always a nice extra! Everything we had was delicious, but the two standouts were the burrata - so fresh and light - and the cacio y pepe pasta. Both make my mouth water just thinking about them!

Overall a nice experience. We did the chef tasting menu, it was very good. The wine pairing was also excellent. Our only gripe was that we had to wait almost 40 minutes to sit down despite having a reservation, that showed poor planning on their part.

Fantastic service, beautiful presentation, delicious food. Reserve a seat at the left side of the bar to watch how carefully they garnish each plate. Order anything, because it's all delicious. When I bring guests, I tell them we need to order dessert because each one is an adventure.

Most importantly to me, the staff has always been phenomenally helpful with my partner's allergies. She has a long list of foods she can't eat, most of which are easy to identify but some of which we need to ask about. These limit our restaurant choices, and her options at most of the places we go - but not Juniper! She can always find options that she can eat, plus they can often accommodate other choices with minor modifications. The menu changes frequently so I never get bored, but never so drastically that she shows up to find there's nothing she can eat.

Only once out of who knows how many visits, the staff was wrong when we asked about an ingredient, and the way they handled it spoke volumes! The waiter knew the ingredient wasn't in the planned recipe and went back and chased down what had happened. He explained what had happened, why it was a deviation from their policies, and how that experience would inform changes to their workflow going forward to make sure it wouldn't ever happen again. He took it very seriously and we have not had an issue since - this was maybe a year and a half ago. It seems counterintuitive to say they're great with allergies and then describe a mistake, but the way they handled it is part of why I trust them! Mistakes are inevitable, and I've found that most restaurants just don't care this much. In contrast, Juniper has been this attentive in every interaction.
