What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
I loved this place! The food was not only delicious, but beautifully crafted. I sat at the counter and got to watch the chefs work their magic as they prepared the various dishes. Amazing the amount of energy and care they put into each one.
The staff was incredibly friendly and fun.
The ambience was perfect. The gnocchi was so palate-pleasing that we ordered another serving. It is by far the best I’ve had. My only complaint is that the server, Austin, was pretentious and a bit belittling. We had a few questions about the menu and he made us feel small because of it. I don’t think he likes his job very much. It was off-putting enough that when asked, we tell friends that the food is tantalizing to say the least but the service is lacking. We will not be bringing clients here in case this is the norm.
Juniper has outstanding food! Fresh and original preparations of Italian fare (seafood and pasta). We went to celebrate our anniversary and everyone made this occasion extra special!
Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience. Arrived at 9:10 for a 9:15 reservation. Were seated at 9:40. We ordered the following only to be told that they had run out: Pork Chop, Ozzo Bucco, Chicken liver mousse. That left us with only 2 entree selections to choose from. The roasted chicken which said allow 30 minutes to prepare and the steak with chimichurri which was $57 a la carte for about 6-8 thin slices/medallions. Neither were very tasty. We also ordered several of the pastas/risotto which were perfection. A simple well drink (house vodka with soda) was $13. We also ordered a couple of their specialty drinks. They were about a 2oz total pour. We spent about $400 for 5 people and left so disappointed. Our waiter was apologetic and attentive. We will not be going back. Made us wonder what were going to serve their guest the next day (Sunday) if they were out of everything. The website said they served 5:30 to 11pm. They ran out of food by their 9:15 reservation. Poorly managed and over priced. We drove from San Antonio to Austin to have dinner there and had a bad experience ) :
Juniper has excellent food. We had counter seats this time, which was actually better than the dining room, at least for two people, because you had a great view of everything happening in the kitchen. Almost everything we ordered was incredible—the pasta here is ridiculously good, and the cocktails are fantastic—but we had a couple of problems with our orders: one dish was too salty, and the wine the waiter recommended was a bit vinegary. We mentioned both, but did not complain, and in both cases they tested what we were saying, apologized massively, and took the items off the bill. They also added an extra free dessert. It was great service, added to an already wonderful night. Juniper is a rare restaurant that takes its food seriously, but does not take itself so seriously it cannot admit to and amend mistakes.
Fantastic restaurant. They did a nice tasting menu for our anniversary. A wonderful experience.
The staff was incredible and made our night celebrating a birthday extremely special!!! Thanks for the super service and the extra gift. Y’all are fantastic.
I celebrated my birthday at the restaurant and it was such a special evening. We sat at the counter and it was so much fun watching the time and effort go into each dish.
We will definitely return and cannot wait.
This restaurant has a unique location in Austin,Tx and the food is 5 star chef quality so be prepared for that type of experience. Food is well prepared with Very fresh ingredients the servers are fantastic and the experience needs to be planned for a reservation in advance. Valet parking is available also.
Great modern Italian food in a lively dining room with hip, professional service. Cocktails are excellent and imaginative. Menu is a nice blend of classic Italian with some modern updates. Expensive, but fun and delicious.
Jarvis was witty, congenial, helpful, and attentive. We had a great meal and a wonderful time.
The food and oUr waitress Danielle was exceptional as usual .
Juniper has been a favorite of mine since it opened. It’s, for me, the go-to place for special occasions. This time was new years eve and nothing disappointed. Great wine, food and service. My vegetarian companion also loves Juniper.
Juniper was lovely! Beautiful decor, not too loud and yummy food! Will be back!
Juniper was fantastic as usual. My wife and I have been coming there for several years and it never disappoints--that includes the food and the service. Shannon always takes great care of us and we look forward to our next Juniper experience!
Awesome food and great service. Also playing great music. Overall loved the experience!
Went here for my anniversary. Couldn't have been more pleased with the service. My wife and I were treated like royalty. When we sat down, we were presented with a personalized menu. The waiter brought over two complementary drinks. After dinner, we were treated to a complementary desert. To top things off, they provided us with a care package with a care package as we left with all sorts of goodies. This place really knows how to treat you like you matter. Plus the food is excellent! I will definitely be dining here again.
Honestly one of the best italian meals I've ever eaten in my life. I'm not usually big on italian food, but man, this dining experience changed my mind. We started the meal with chicken liver mousse and meatballs. The chicken liver mousse was delicious, but the meatballs were substantial AND life changing. The most delicious meatballs I've ever had in my entire life. I ordered cacio e pepe and my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti carbonara. Both were absolutely incredible. I couldn't stop myself from ordering dessert, even though we could not finish it. The donuts and cream were also detectible. Amazing meal. The cocktails were great too!
Delightful experience. Drinks were interesting and tasty. Food was delicious and service was outstanding. Aaron was a perfect waiter. This was our second visit. We will definitely be back.
I've eaten here 3 times and it is fantastic.
One star lost because we were hurried out of the door prematurely when a second sitting had arrived. Before ordering after-dinner drinks our waiter assured us that we had enough time, but the drinks took over 15 minutes to arrive … so we were shepherded outside, glasses in hand, to unappealing white seats in the freezing cold side yard. When we huddled near a heater closer to the building, another Juniper staff came out to shoo us away. WTF?
That took the shine off our most recent visit.
Like I said, a small nit.
Amazing food, great service and attention to details.
Terrific in every way, the food was delicious, the ambiance beautiful, and we were able to have a wonderful conversation with our family.
We loved it!
Fantastic experience. We were surprised that every single dish we were served was so very good. That is unusual What a beautiful space and the service was excellent. We will definitely return. Our new favorite restaurant in Austin.
As always, this place just gets better each time...keep up the great work!
All the pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. I wanted to try one of everything sitting at the counter watching all the dishes go out. Our server, Mark, was great and very helpful in selecting our dishes.
Not absolutely perfect as service got a bit slow at the end, but overwhelmingly positive. The best dining experience we’ve had in some time.We will be back!
Something must have changed menu-wise from the first time I ate at Juniper bc I’m still dreaming about this meal. The Cacio e Pepe was delicious!! Beet salad, burrata, even the grilled broccoli were all so scrumptious. I now consider Juniper my favorite Italian restaurant in Austin. Service was excellent; and of course, the space itself is super cool.
Nice modern feel to the interior but still casual. The service was good but not great. Excellent food and drinks but felt a bit over priced, especially the cocktails. I would probably go back again to try more of the pastas but I can think of a number of Austin restaurants I’d rather visit for a special dinner.
We loved our meal at Juniper. The service was excellent; our waitress was friendly and had good suggestions, and the people who deliver your food give a nice explanation and presentation of what you're receiving. The food was truly delicious. We went for pasta, so we both got dishes off of the pasta portion of the menu, and were very satisfied. The house mozzarella appetizer was very good as well. The dessert was alright, but a bit heavy and overly hazelnut accented. Our one complaint would be that the cocktail was very small for the price. While craft cocktails will typically run you about $10-13, they should be at least of a size greater than three sips. It tasted delicious though! We would happily visit Juniper again. Thank you for the great experience.
Nice twists on each dish and cocktails
They made my anniversary incredibly memorable. Such caring and thoughtful staff made it one of my most memorable dinners in Austin ever!!
The food was some of the tastier fare I've had in Austin. The Gnocchi Fritti was unbelievable, perfectly accented by the peanuts and parsley. The parpadelle oxtail ragu was perfect: firm, earthy and the sauce was exquisite. The grilled broccoli was good, not great, with too much salt but well scorched for flavor. And the plate of the night, the citrus-infused pork chop with cooked fat morsels...melted in my mouth. The service was warm, attentive and comfortable, especially given the special treatment for our anniversary night. Please visit this fine restaurant and experience what makes Austin...Austin.
Our group of 8 sat at a large rectangular table -- service was excellent, meal was delicious, crafted drinks were made with love -- a very nice evening for all.
Juniper consistently delivers on all fronts! For the 2nd time, we chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Juniper. It was evident that they appreciated our choice.
We wanted to love this place as it was chosen for my birthday dinner! Unfortunately, it left us disappointed. We ordered the puffy potato starter which was basically fried balls of mashed potatoes, the texture was a little too strange. The chicken liver mousse was bland. We decided to sample several pasta dishes instead of ordering a heavy meat course. The restaurant was so cold that by the time we ate our pasta, the edges of the noodles were cold and dry, particularly the caramelle. The cacio e pepe was bland, it would have been easy to make this dish at home. Their wine list is good, but quite overpriced. It was painful paying $20 for the one glass of red wine. Despite all these complaints, I must say the bomba dessert was WONDERFUL. I can't remember the last time I had such a lovely treat at the end of the meal. The dessert course would be a reason to return. The ambiance was quite nice despite the frigid temp.
Shannon was amazing.
I can see why Juniper was voted #6 in a recent restaurant poll, although I would rank them higher! It’s definitely one of our always “go to” restaurants because of the consistency and deliciousness of the food, service, the wine list and their craft cocktails! We love Juniper and looking forward to seeing Nic’s next concept come to life!
Great food, wine and service! Especially loved the papardelle
