What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
First time here celebrating anniversary. Everything was so good. Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent ambience. Not a cheap date, but well worth it for the experience. We are fans!
In Austin for a short time. One of the best meals we have had not only here but anywhere. My wife and I keep remarking in how great it was.
Outstanding food and service. Inventive ingredient pairings and composition. I will definitely be returning
Great food and great service!!!
My wife has been wanting to try Juniper for several months and we went for our anniversary, which the restaurant celebrated with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, very nice. We enjoyed the ambiance and vibe of Juniper. There setting and service was excellent. The food was good. The meatball appetizer consisted of three large meatballs in a spicy sauce, nothing special. The pastas were just ok and the lamb confit very good but pricey.
With all the other excellent Italian choices in Austin (Red Ash, La Traviata, Sienna), I don’t think we will return soon to Juniper.
Incredible dining experience. The staff here raised the bar. Beyond grateful for their hospitality and superb service! Food, presentation and service impeccable and what you truly hope for in a fine dining experience. We will be back there is no doubt! Thank you for making my husband’s birthday memorable and enjoyable and truly delicious... from the S family!
Enjoyed it very much! Have been recommending it to others.
I love trying locally sourced restaurants and Juniper stood out! All the food was perfect on every level- taste, texture and visually. Cocktails are fabulous too. So glad to have found it!
Excellent evening! Love counter service and Nick is a favorite! Never been disappointed
My second time at Juniper with the same departing thoughts: good space, great service; over-priced ho-hum food. The food isn’t bad, but in today’s Austin it’s definitely nothing special or justifies the prices that will get you something much better tasting elsewhere. I might give them another shot in another six months or so....
Had a "girls night out dinner" for 8 here and we got a great private table in a private alcove. Our waiter Eric was wonderful and recommended the "Tasting menu" for us and it was fantastic. It's hard to please everyone with that option but the bill came out to be about $65.00/person and that was WITH drinks. I'm from Chicago and have tried to find good Italian food in Austin and this one was the best I've had and my other Chicago Friend agreed! The entire dinner took us about 2 1/2 hours to complete and we were rushing to get to our next outing so we could have stayed even longer had we wanted to stretch it out. I only have one negative thing to say about where we were sitting, and that was that the noise level was pretty high. I think it's because the ceiling is curved and it kept our voices echoing. Also, a nice added touch was that is was my birthday and they had printed out custom menus with my name and "Happy Birthday Beth" at the top. Tip...they only serve the lasagna on Sundays!
Juniper never fails to be excellent in every way. Definitely some of the best food in Austin. And the great architecture is an added pleasure!
Excellence from beginning to end. Grand welcome, super staff, extraordinary meal. First time for all 4 of us. We loved it.
Waiter was on point and great sence of humor. Very attentive and clean
Loved the ambiance of the restaurant very fresh, modern and chic. It was amazing and thoughtful of the restaurant to write a happy birthday message on top of the menu. I do wish our server was a bit more attentive and friendlier. All and all, I will definitely go back to Juniper!!
This is a great restaurant in Austin, lovely design and good food. However, at my last visit the service was much worse than on previous occasions. He was not a skilled waiter at all, did not know the menu well, nor the wine list. He failed to mention sides would be helpful when ordering the roast chicken (which is literally just chicken). Bit of a mess on that end really. I left full and happy but feeling a bit bad for the kid.
We had reservations and were seated right away. The drinks menu had good variety and we enjoyed a lovely glass of franchiacorta and paired it with the chicken liver mouse! Delicious. We debated between a pasta dish and went with rec from our server, the casonse (sp?). This fell flat for us. It was cold and lacking flavor. So much so, we decided to continue our dinner elsewhere. I'd return for a happy hour to try more of the menu, otherwise the prices are more than I'd want to pay for okay food.
Best service and food !
Amazing experience. We love going to Juniper. The food is always phenomenal and the staff all work as a team to create a fantastic dining experience.
Eat at the bar, not at a table. We have been several times previous to this visit, this time being our first at a table. When we sat at the bar, the bartenders would bring small portions of food just to try, some of their favorite drinks to test, etc. We got none of that at the table. The bar also has a great view of the kitchen, so you can see chefs at work. Our table had a great view of the wait staff computer.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Juniper, and it was also our first visit to that restaurant, and we will return! Food was locally sourced, and very tasty, with creative offerings and lovely presentation. Atmosphere was lively, but not overpowering, and clientele ranged from young groups to older couples, ourselves included. Some interesting cocktails are a nice way to start the evening, with a variety of wines to accompany the meal, and we enjoyed both. The blue fin crudo, ragù, and porchetta we all excellent. Thank to the attentive staff, and to Natalie for making a memorable evening!
3rd time here and great everytime. Tasting menu is superb. The desserts are so special made there. We loved the tiny but powerful basil in one of the dishes and commented how good it was. They sent a tiny care package home with us containing their basil picked fresh from their garden. How thoughtful! Will return again and again!
Amazing food!!! Server was too notch. Dont recall his name but he was really good
Amazing food, decor, ambience, and service. Highly recommend Juniper.
We enjoyed the dinner. The only issue we had was with the temperature. We were very warm.
Don't book on Juniper's outdoor patio. Open Table told me the only available tables Friday at 5:45pm were outside, so that's what I booked, assuming they would have adequate shade and mister fans to keep things cool. First problem was that the restaurant was empty when we arrived, not full when we left, and we were the only people crazy enough to be eating on their patio. Our server seemed very puzzled that we had to book an outside table and even the chef/owner said "I see you are braving our patio". Here's why. It is a dreary, spartan space with the western sun beating in, no shades drawn to counter the sun, no mister fans to cool things down, thank goodness for us there was a breeze and the sun didn't make it to our table until just about time for us to leave--but every other patio table was in direct sun. My recommendation is, first of all, if Open Table tells you there are only patio tables left, CALL the restaurant and make sure that is really the case. Otherwise, check when the sun sets and only book out there after dark. All that said, the food and service were excellent, and I'm sure we will return.
We had a lovely experience celebrating our 25th anniversary at Juniper! I had mentioned it ahead of time in the comments section of our online reservation and as soon as we sat down we were treated to 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco and a menu with "Happy 25th Anniversary" printed at the top. Those are the little things that make a big difference in how people feel. The food was amazing, especially the beet salad and the gnocchi. Service was attentive and excellent. My one little complaint was that the restaurant was very warm when we arrived- I know AC is expensive in Austin, but your customers need to be comfortable! AC was adjusted when we asked, though. Thanks for a lovely evening- will definitely be back!
It was a great experience, we got good recommendations on wine and vegetarian pastas.
Beautiful spot, lousy service and food arrived cold - $18 and change for a couple of eggs, sausage and toast. All & all a great disappointment.
Second time sitting at the chef's counter and just as enjoyable as the first. The food is excellent, the staff is top notch and the dining experience is great.
Wonderful experience. Service was impeccable. Food was great as advertised. Can’t wait to go back.
Everything we tried was delicious! The service was amazing. It will def be on my list of must visit again places.
Great customer service but the food was not good. Would not go back.
Easily would have been 5 star, except for the fact that my open table request for indoor seating 4 days before our reservation was completely ignored
We have been to Juniper twice before in the past and on each occasion, we thought it was excellent. This time we were terribly disappointed. The food was quite good, but it definitely was not worth $127 for dinner for 2 on this special occasion, which turned out not to be very special at all. We do not plan to return in the future.
We sampled several starters that were all tasty and interesting. Especially the greens with zabaglione. The papardelle pasta was great too and the prochetta was beautifully prepared and enough for two. The service was attentive but relaxed. All in all an enjoyable evening.
It was great really enjoyed Hopi g to go back this week
Juniper has a wonderful ambiance, not too crowded, not too sparse, and great indoor decor. Food is delicious (black fettuccine, beef cheeks, tuna and prosciutto appetizer) and presented impressively. Our waitress was top rate: likable, helpful, great personality. The only food advice I would offer is to make desserts as impressive as the other courses; the pound cake just didn't thrill me. But everything else did.
